  1. 2.15 Baden Baden

    Passion and Glory - 2/1 - win - 3rd

Another Godolphin horse travelling from the UK to Germany.  Again, I'm sure that this horse wouldn't have been sent if Saeed Bin Suroor didn't think it had a good chance.

    York

    2.40 - Pagan - 7/2 - win - 11th

    3.45 - Mistrix - 6/4 - win - 1st -  ?

  2. Does anyone have Ricky Taylor's Betting In The 21st Century book or even a contact for Ricky? I would like to purchase this in Pdf or Kindle format.

The reason being is that I previously had a collection of over 200 books, all music theory, and got rid of them. I don't really want to get more paper books. ??

So went to a bookies this morning (thought I'd try a non-online bet), found my odds on their terminal (1.8), filled the slip with the odds, and went to the cashier. Was informed they didn't 'understand' decimal odds so they looked it up and substituted it with fractional - 8/11.

So in reality I got 1.73.

I should not have bet at all, but did. Should have insisted on the 1.8 but didn't.. I left shaking my head. Do bookies not let you use decimal odds on betting slips? How can you work in a bookies and not know decimal odds? Maybe this is normal? Maybe I should stick to online...

Maybe they should have looked up the bet on the Will HIll website and got the odds from there.

I won't be cashing out - it's bloody tempting, though.

You know I swear to God that this morning the 15:35 was 5 places. It is now 4 places. If my horse DOES come 5th I'll crush a grape.

I put a last minute bet on Oh Purple Reign for no other reason than I'm a Prince fan. I got in at 15/1 and it has won.   I only put an 80p bet on though.

Many thanks.  As I said above I will be looking elsewhere to find my multiple selections.  I wonder why you say I am spending my time to find the obvious?  Is it obvious then that staff paid to find winners by the the premium publications in the UK  hire idiots to put up selections for punters to follow?  This doesn't seem to make sense to me.  If they don't give out enough winners then they lose credibility.  I did and do not expect the big 3 selections to be profitable but imo it is worthwhile to list them out so as to find other angles on the selections as mentioned in my post.  Would you "lay" all their selections? That's another possible profitable angle.

You can be sure as soon as you lay a selection it will win ?

Whether it wins or not is irrelevant

The art is trying to ensure your perceived chance of it winning is better than the odds suggest.

Even if you have a 5% edge on heads in the flip of a coin (H @ 2.1 T @ 1.9) you can still lose over a set amount of time due to variance

ie  Flip a coin every day for a year and back heads every time some years you will win others you will lose even though you have an 'edge'

That's a good way to think about it.

Flat Stats - only for the flat - might have it.

And Steve Jones has a page you might find helpful, Track Speeds: National Hunt

    Thanks.

The Racing Post has the information on the results page of any race.  If you scroll down to the bottom it will give you a winning time and say if it was slow or fast, which I'm assuming relates to the average winning time for that particular distance.

So far so good, today has been a good day as I have a new selection system.  Maybe just beginner's luck, but we'll see what happens over the next few days.

    RESULTS UPDATE

@Darran's Tip saved me from a complete wash out today.  Very many thanks for Go On Chez.  This restricted my loss to £2.62 for the day.  My new balance is £732.99 (Bank £1056.22)

I don't think that the big three did very well today, will check now.

Three meetings in the UK tomorrow so it should be less frenetic than today's meetings

Go On Chez made me a few quid as well - great tip from @Darran.

    3rd & 1st @ 5\4 yesterday

    Alqamar 17.50 Cartmel 1 Pt Win @ 5\4 (bog)

Useful Flat stayer who has made a fine start over hurdles, completing the hat-trick in fine style under this pilot over C&D in July. 8 lb higher now but chances are he can do better again.

HMS Endeavour 13.30 Navan 1 Pt WIn @ 3\1 (bog)

Bred in the purple and showed plenty amidst greenness when third of 8 in maiden at Naas (5.9f, good, 9/2) on debut 38 days ago. Sure to improve.

    excellent tipping!

  13. There is a section on the Racing Post's front page called "Raceday Live".

Last night it gave details of a horse called Bopedro and said it was one of the day's most tipped horses.  The price was 40/1 and I was thinking to myself how come it was priced so high.  I put 40p EW on it and the bloody horse won!!  ?.  I wish I had of put more on.

I didn't write the selection here as it was a few minutes until the race was about to go off.  It was a nice win for me.

I was asked this by another member, i replied, if i published or revealed they way i do something (same for every successful system) the bookies would soon latch on to it and use it, all systems irrespective of what they are if successful will eventually be unsuccessful due to their popularity, the bookies will adjust to take the value out of them this is why i never recommend anyone follow published ratings and tipsters. However, i will tell you this, unless you are prepared to put the hours of work a week that it takes to even just do speed figures for 2yo's you will never be successful long term with speed figures. All the information you need is in the results section of the racing post daily (even the free version online) or if you want them weekly the RP weekender out every weds so you don't even need to watch a race let alone have a stopwatch. Footnote here the "fun lucky 15" experiment i have been putting on here this month is not speed based just the occasional selection in them.

Interesting, I will follow some of your bets and try to work out what I think might be going on in your selections e.g why are you saying this horse is faster?
