Best bet of the day - Saturday 26th June

Recommended Posts

Sorry to be so eager (again) but all the bookies have priced this race up nowso starting a thread... 3.05 Newcastle The Northumberland Plate is one of the finest staying handicaps of the year and plenty of the usual suspects are set to contest this years race too. A couple of hurdlers returning to the flat make appeal off potentially lenient marks - Overturn perhaps the pick of them, but Mamlook is another that may have more improvement in him despite a rise in the weights for his latest success. Deauville Flyer is unexposed over the trip and made a favourable impression when winning at York when last seen, but at the prices, I think stablemate CRACKENTORP is the better bet. I've long felt this is a horse that would win a heritage handicap this season, advising him on his reappearance at Catterick. He never landed a blow that day but has since started to come into himself and he made eyecatching headway at York when behind Hanoverian Baron, despite having masses of ground to make up in the straight. He looks handicapped to win races and should get this trip. 10/1 Bet 365, 1 pt win

Re: Best bet of the day - Saturday 26th June 230 Newcastle: Atlantic Story EW (14/1 Tote) No time today, down in London so will be brief, I put Atlantic Story in my stable challenge list expecting a good season but so far have only seen him once since his stint on the AW. Was 6th over 5f last time not beaten miles and hopefully the step back up to 6f will help and the stable had a winner yesterday. *Table may be late or tomorrow.

Re: Best bet of the day - Saturday 26th June 1:45 Newmarket - Cult Classic - Back Made a really nice debut at Windsor when 4th of 14. Once he got the hang of things he looked a nice horse and finished really strongly. He should be alot better for the experience and the maiden tag could be a thing of the past for him at the ned of this race 1pt win @ 4/5 Bet365 BOG

Re: Best bet of the day - Saturday 26th June 3.40 Newcastle Camerooney may be worth taking on after a real tough race at Carlisle this week, he comfortably beat the field including the useful looking Major Phil but this could come too soon. Hajoum bounced straight back to form when 4th in buckingham palace stakes at ascot last week and running off just a 1lb higher mark he could be hard to beat again with fast ground to suit. Black Dahlia is also worthy of small interest she made into a useful prospect on the AW over the winter with a good 2nd in a listed event but below form last 2 starts and now 15lb higher than last handicap win but her record fresh is quite interesting, form 60+ days lay off: 2323 and looks a big price, turf form well below that of her AW form but that improvement came about this winter and she hasnt raced on turf since so she cant be dismissed for that reason. 0.5pt e/w black dahlia 25/1 sj

Re: Best bet of the day - Saturday 26th June 2:30 Newcastle - Poet's Place - 1pt @ 4/1 (Bet365 - BOG) Son of a former group performer who was 4th in a Group 1 and placed in Group 2 and Group 3 races. Won first two starts by 4l including a handicap last time out on the AW at Lingfield where The Barron has a great record. Ran well last time out on turf debut coming 5th, 2 1/2 lengths behind the winner. Probably would of won that race had he not met trouble along the way, He showed plenty of speed in the final furlong and if getting a clear run today he can go alot closer than last time and prove his undoubted ability. He's the only horse sent out by David Barron today and could go on to be a very classy individual, Unexposed, With only 3 runs to date despite being a 5 year old and has plenty of scope for improvement. Should put in a bold bid in what looks a slightly easier task than last time out. Phillip Makin takes the ride and he's a very good sprint jockey in my opinion and he was on board on Poet's Place's only three races so far, So he should hopefully know how to get the most out of him. He and The Barron have been in good form in the last couple of months and with a bit of luck in running I think they could add to the tally. Depending on how the market goes today I might go back in for some more if there's a decent move as there usually is with Barron's fancied horses, Should have a good chance regardless.

Re: Best bet of the day - Saturday 26th June Limerick, 12 Jun 2010 Admiral Barry 2m Handicap (60-90) (3YO plus) Winner €9,660 - 10 ran Good I watched this horse tracking behind the leaders and got josstled about a bit before the home straight to where this horse got cornered in a pocket on the rail and the jockey was forced to take a pull of the horse to the outside of the track and finished really well to good effect into a fast running on 3rd might have won with a clear run very impressive the way this horse picked up so quickly 0.5 EW

Re: Best bet of the day - Saturday 26th June 3.30 WINDSOR~ LUCKY GENERAL 22/1 0.5 E/W SJ 1PT WIN Lucky General looks overpriced in this by the bookies IMO. Has been running over a furlong to far in listed races and now having first run in handicap company and now back to 6f on what looks its best trip and gets in here at a very generous mark for first try IMO. Has two wins at the track at todays distance and as Bowlesy has pointed out in the past trainer worth following here. A big run looks on the cards and if all 16 runners remain 22's for 4 places is cracking value i think so anyway.

Re: Best bet of the day - Saturday 26th June 2:30 Newcastle: Bond Fastrac 1pt win 25/1 Ladbrokes Bond Fastrac is a three year old taking on his elders here. He might just be worth chancing dropping back to six furlongs. His two runs this season over a furlong further have not seen him at his best. However, looking back at his two year old career, he won well in a maiden at Redcar beating Elusive Sue before running second in a two year old handicap at York ahead of Swilly Ferry in third, that form now looks quite useful. On his final start of 2009 he was only beaten two lengths behind the then 101 rated Angel's Pursuit when not getting a clear run. He is dropped two pounds to 88 today and goes on the prevailing going.

Re: Best bet of the day - Saturday 26th June 2:00 Newcastle - Mister Hughie This 3yo colt and youngest of today's runners, suffered a freak incident and fell in his last race, which was over 5f. Up a furlong this time; a distance over which he won at 25/1 in April. Rarely out of the place positions, he has came 1st in 27% of his 15 races :ok WIN @ SP

Re: Best bet of the day - Saturday 26th June Windsor 2.55 - Aldovrandi - win at 7/2 BOG with Coral Was plunged into the big time of the French 2000 gns after winning a small race on the AW on debut. Not surprisingly he finished down the field there Ran well in a Listed race at sandown after that to show that this is more his level. Travelled very well that day and was narrowly beaten Hopefully should be ready to deliver now he's had a few runs. Should be suited by the ground and has a decent turn of foot Stable in good form Bit worried abour Ordnance Row who usually runs in all these listed races at windsor and usually does well, but he's looked a bit out of sorts so far this year...........mind, he is being backed into favouritism today, which is a worry for my selection.

Re: Best bet of the day - Saturday 26th June MAN OF IRON 2.45 Newmarket. 1 point win. All about the ground for me, and we should appreciate the fast conditions most of all. Kieren Fallon just had a winner and so confident, so with having the form to go close anyhow, would look a very solid option.

Re: Best bet of the day - Saturday 26th June MIRANDAS GIRL 2.55 Curragh. 1 point win. Very open race on the bare form and weights combined, but we're pretty consistent and do look to have every chance with the way the race makes up. Should be there at the finish and hopefully get the verdict. Trip and ground suits and the weights okay.

Re: Best bet of the day - Saturday 26th June 4.20 Chester - Ryan Style - 4/1 Ladbrokes Like the look of this one who just won last time out. Didnt look the likely winner about a furlong out but absolutely flew home near the finish to just get up. Up 4lb for that win but with McHugh claiming 3lb is effectively only 1lb up from that win. That was his first run on firmer ground and will get similar conditions again today. The likely strong pace will suit as this one can sit in behind and the turn of foot he showed lto should help with this short run in. Still lightly raced and looks to be progressing with the stable having a couple of recent winners over the sprint trip.

Re: Best bet of the day - Saturday 26th June Chester 17:25 - Hell's Angel @ 4/1 Hills A winner of her last two races, she's up 3lb again for her last success and although the winning distance was a only a neck she still looked good for the victory. She's up against another small field here and could go in again.

Re: Best bet of the day - Saturday 26th June N4.30 Quiet 0.5pt E/W 8/1 Blue Square The Roger Charlton / Steve Drowne combo is always one worth looking at in handicaps where they have an unexposed horse. Quiet fits the bill today and looks sure to run a decent race back on firmer ground. The trainer couldn't be in better form and he tried the horse in a class 1 event on its second start so it may be that he thinks the horse is useful. The horse has also been dropped a couple of pounds since its handicap debut.
