fintron
Re: The Punters Lounge 100/1 Challenge - Super Ted as it again did anyone see this bad boy romp up at Wetherby... Maoi Chinn Tire became the biggest priced winner in 20 years when winnning the Weatherbys Bank Wensleydale Juvenile Hurde at Wetherby at 200-1. Equinoctial in November 1990 still holds the record for the biggest priced winner at 250-1 but Friday's winner, trained by Jennie Candlish, was also matched for £912 at 1000-1 on Betfair. Grandouet looked to have stolen the race when going clear before the turn for home but Nicky Henderson's gelding tired badly late on and eventually finished out of the frame. Having travelled well the winner, formerly in the care of Stan Moore, hit the front on the bridle and went on to win the Listed contest very easily in the hands of Alan O'Keefe. Meetings Man (50-1) filled second place, with Two Kisses (9-1) back in third. Hot favourite Domtaline was another fancied runner to disappoint, finishing down the field after a series of jumping errors. "I didn't expect that!" said Candlish. "He'd done nothing wrong at home and settled in brilliantly, but we obviously didn't know if he'd stay. "He'd taken everything in his stride, so all credit to his previous connections. "He went to Yogi Breisner for three days and he told us that he would be grand. "His home work has been brilliant. We got him out of a claimer and obviously people don't like to lose horses, but that's the risk you run. "Whether today is his Gold Cup or not, it doesn't matter." Winning owner Alan Baxter said: "I managed to back him at 300-1 so he has nearly won back the £7,000 we claimed him for!"

Tedthewolf
Re: The Punters Lounge 100/1 Challenge Fin grabs a big one on the last day of the flat 3.40 Doncaster Icelandic was so so impressive when winning this race the other year but has dipped in form this season. Mac's Power is in great form and Cheveton too has come to life on soft at the back end of the season. Was impressed with HITCHENS though when second at Dundalk and think two from the bottom of the weights could spring a shock at big prices. MIRZA has been saved for soft ground and remains open to improvement and RUSSIAN SPIRIT is holding his form well and keeps going down by small margins. He may possibly be better over 5f but the price allows a bet. Hitchens 9/1 Ladbrokes, 0.25 pt win Mirza 33/1 VC Bet, 0.5 pt win Russian Spirit 25/1 Bet 365, 0.25 pt win

Been well beat last two runs but one was when upped in grade at Newmarket and the other run at Kempton she got hampered usually goes well on the poly, is only 1 lb above last winning mark and might just improve a bit for stepping up in trip Got my doubts about a couple of the fancied ones here ans with just 9 runners, i fancy she might be in the places. Tedthewolf
Re: The Punters Lounge 100/1 Challenge :clapGood to see another winner in here its gone a bit quiet. Lars Shrewdie Punter Join Date: 08 Apr 2009 Location: London/York Age: 20 Posts: 956 Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Tuesday 15:25 Southwell Last time he ran, Alpha Tauri ran with plenty of zip, and just tired in the final furlong or so, and I think the introduction to the Southwell surface, as well as a more patient ride can pay dividends and lead to a much improved performance. Ex- Henry Cecil mount, who should have been a lot better than he’s turned out. Best form to date came with the Warren Place outfit, finishing 2nd in a 7f Warwick maiden. Employing similar tactics to how he ran last time out (at Wolverhampton). He hit the front early and was only headed in the final 150 yards. He only finished a length or so behind the 96 rated Mull of Killough, and it’s obvious connections were expecting a better horse than how he’s turned out. Put in three terrible runs with Henry Cecil before being sold out of the yard to Frank Sheridan, and given a year off. His return effort after a year off was pretty poor, although probably over an inadequate trip of 6f, he ran without any enthusiasm and although very well backed (14/1 to 11/2), he finished dead last. Was given another break during the summer, and returned at Wolverhampton 4 days ago (his last run). He broke well from the stalls and set a frantic pace, before slightly tiring and running out of gas. It was an optimistic move but was worth a go, especially as his best form was when being a clear leader. Alpha Tauri should strip much fitter from that run, even though it was four days ago, it should have blown away the cobwebs. I hope that James Doyle gives him a much more conservative ride, although I still think he’ll be taken to the lead. A very interesting stat is our selections sire, Aldebaran has an exceptional record at Southwell with his progeny. Although having limited chances over here, his offspring has 3 victories from 4 starts here at Southwell, a very decent record indeed. Alpha Tauri is American bred himself, and should relish the fibresand surface, as many with dirt pedigrees enjoy the Southwell track. Although he’s never raced on the surface, he should be able to handle it perfectly well. Frank Sheridan has had a quiet enough season, but when his horses win, they usually go in at massive prices (his last winner went in at 66/1). Alpha Tauri definitely has the chance to go pretty close today. He should handle the surface, is contesting in a lesser race than when being caught late on last time. He should be nearly 100% ready, and if not given a suicidal ride from the front, can make a bold bid. Small stakes but an interesting investment nonetheless I feel. Tedthewolf
Re: The Punters Lounge 100/1 Challenge Been reading over this thread since Aidy hit his 100/1 winner last week. I think we should consider bringing it back or something very similar probably best to wait to the start of the new year if we do though. Thoughts?
