Re: Darts: BDO World Championships The ones I am liking at the moment are Anderson @ 2/1 and e.w punts in the top half in Farmer @ 80/1 and 14/1 to win the quarter Richardson @ 125/1 and 16/1 to win the quarter. However before going into detail which I will do later, I have a problem with my quarter bets. All bookies so far have Farmer in quarter 1 and Richardson in quarter 2 but considering that Farmer is playing the fifth seed and Richardson the eighth seed, should that be the other way round? I have looked at various website BBC, WDF and they have conflicting messages about the draw.

Re: Darts: BDO World Championships Yes there is a problem here. Richardson is in the first quarter as you would think playing the no.9 seed (8/9 should make no difference) and Farmer the second playing the no.5 seed. However the bookies have Richardson in quarter 2 along with Fitton, David and Robson when they all should be in quarter 1 and Farmer in quarter 1 along with O'Shea, Thornton and Walton when they should all be in quarter 2.

Re: Darts: BDO World Championships My outright bets. Will try to post others like who will win the quarters when the bookies sort it out. Complete chaos at the moment. Anderson @ 2/1 15 pts. On paper it looks short and probably too short but arguably we are talking about the best player in the world at the moment and with the exception of one Aussie, his route to the semis looks comfortable enough unless Hankey or Atkins start really playing. Anderson has always been a player of quality on the floor but until this year his TV performances have been relatively disappointing, one Lakeside semi aside. However this year his TV performances have been sensational. He won the IDL and WDT which featured players from both codes. In the IDL his tournmanent average was well over 100, he hit 59 180s and he wiped the floor with all his opponents. It was a similar story in the WDT where he beat Part, Manley, Hamilton (just, only tight game in either comp in truth) and Taylor 7-3 in the final and Taylor played well that day, he averaged 102 and yet only got three sets. In the GSOD he lost an early game to Painter but played better as the event went on and Taylor only narrowly got his revenge in the semis. His floor results have reamined good all year. IMO he is the real class act of this field and rumours are floating that he could be in contention for a PL wildcard except that he seems reluctant to move to the PDC which would be one of the likely conditions with it. I do not know much about his first round game but Whitlock in the second round would be a potential challenge and is similar to the WDT draw where Whitlock potentially met in the q/f, in the end he played Manley as Peter outscored Whitlcok in that second round game. On that ocassion I fancied Whitlock in that event and I think Kev put up Anderson who was 40/1 or something massive and in the end it was Anderson who came through. Here I could put up Whitlcok outright as he is bigger and arguably better value but Whitlock seems one who often blows good opportunities when the draw opens up (Lakesdie last two years) so even if he did beat Anderson, he could not be guaranteed to go through the whole way. Anyway I fancy Anderson to come through that. If he plays like he has all year, he will be very tough to beat all week imo. In the top half two big priced e.w fancies. Farmer @ 80/1 1.5 pts e.w I believe this is his Lakeside debut which is slightly surprising considering how good he has looked when playing for England in events like the World Cup, European events etc. His county averages are always very solid and consistent and he has got a World Masters semi final to his name in 2006 I believe. O'Shea in round 1 is a tough one but not impossible and O'Shea is not in the form of earlier in the year when he was hitting a 9 darter and reaching semis in the WDT. Again Walton/Thornton and maybe Adams look tough routes to a semi but @ 80/1 it is worth a small risk imo and one has to remember that whilst the various routes look tough on paper, 'upsets' can happen and suddenly a whole draw is wide open, see Nixon last year. Richardson @ 125/1 1 pt e.w He has always been known as the King of the Qualifiers ahead of even Bobby George but for once this year he does not need to. His Lakeside record is poor in terms of results and indeed last year was the first time he got past round 1 but watching him I have always thought he has been a bit unlucky. His performances always seem good enough and around that 90 average mark. He lost to Adams just in 2005 when he seemed on top for most of the match. Last year he beat Voort in round 1 before just losing to Hankey. His county average last year was impressive and second in the whole set up even though his average I believe so far this term is not so good. His draw is not easy and Fitton would be favoured to beat him in round 1 but Fitton at times is prone to missing so many doubles that Richardson could not be ruled out. Robson too can be very inconsistent/David a point to prove. On paper Webster would end any run but you cant be totally sure they would meet or what would would happen and @ 125/1 I cant rule Richardson out in the top half.

Re: Darts: BDO World Championships I can't believe the price on John Boy here :eek. 2pts ew J.Walton to win BDO Championships 33/1 Stan James John Boy Walton knows what it takes to land the big one having done exactly in 2001. He's coming into this event in decent form too, especially if the Winmau World Masters is anything to go by. In that event he hit a 9 dart finish on his way to a semi final defeat to Darryl Fitton. He lost that 6-5 but played cracking darts all weekend. He's got a tricky 1st round draw here in the winner of the Winmau, Robert Thornton but the fact the Scot had to win that just to get in here shows consistency isn't always his game. When he gets going John Boy is a prolific scorer but his doubles can let him down. He's shown this year though that he's still a class act at this level and at 33/1 he's well worth a poke.

Re: Darts: BDO World Championships Kev what do you make of the 11/10 Walton to beat Thornton? Fair play to him for winning the Winmau but as you say he really isn't consistent and the 11/10 could look very big if he has an off day (which he obviously has often enough). Tbh I don't think 11/10 is that much of a bad bet even if we knew Thornton was going to play well.

I completely agree mate. Like you say even if Thornton does turn up 11/10 on Walton is a great price. It's not like the winner of the Winmau to shit out in the 1st round here either, look at MVG last year. When I do my 1st round bets, Walton is definitely one of them :ok

Re: Darts: BDO World Championships First round bets for the moment: Richardson 5/2 5 pts See Earlier post. Richardson does not have a great record at Lakesdie but I have always thought has been a bit unlucky at times, often bowing out with a good average and if he keeps Fitton in range he will always be in a chance becuase of Fitton's inability at times to hit doubles. They have played on TV before at the IDL and Fitton won 6-0 in legs with a record 114 average for a TV match so if that Fitton turns up we are in trouble but hopefully he wont and Richardson can have a bit of a run. Farmer 7/4 10 pts See earlier post again. Farmer makes his Lakeside debut but he has shown glimpses before that he is a very good dart player in other TV events. O'Shea's form has just dipped a bit as well of late after his 9 darter and semi at the WDT so I favour the Lakeside debutant. Walton 11/10 10 pts Agree with earlier posts. Thornton played super darts at the World Masters and indeed has played well before at Lakeside and on the floor even in PDC events. However Walton is a very good dart player especially when it comes to his scoring ability. A bit like T.Jenkins and Fitton his problem has been how he can miss doubles with alarming regulatory on ocassions. If he can hold it together on his doubles he is well capable of winning this match. Moody 6/4 10 pts I do not know much about Moody but what I do know is that he came through the toughness of qualification and also that his superleage average is a respectable 87 and Shepherd's average in the Kent leagues was less than that and we all know what he did last week. This bet though is more based on de Ruiter. Apparently he has been suffering from vertigo and that must casuse real problems for a dart player. Certainly in the GSOD it caused him lots of problem, he was awful and lost every match and did well to win the legs he did palying like that. I will take a chance on Moody. Veitch 21/10 5 pts Waites has shown to be a very useful player this year and he won the Dutch Open for one as well as some good results in the IDL and WDT, Wade amongst his victims. However this is his Lakeside dubut and there is a fair bit of expectation and in Mike Veitch he is playing a very solid dart player who for me is slightly overpriced. Veitch has had some family problems which part explains why he had to qualify due to lack of ranking points this year. His record is reliable if not spectaculor, his WDT semi in 2005 probably the highlight but he wont make it easy for Waites just as he did not for King last year and he might be some value. Woods Evens 10 pts Both Woods and Hanvidge have appeared in the recent Lakeside's and although Hanvidge has the better record with q/f in the last two years, personally I have been more impressed with Woods even though he has yet to take a set. That seems strange but Woods put up decent performances on both ocassions and was around the 90 average and possibly was a bit unlucky. He also played well when he reached two World Masters q/f back to back in 2005 and 2006. Hanvidge is a steady player but rarely goes above that imo. He often averages around the 85 mark and yet he has reached two q/f back to back and possibly could have reached the semi. The other thing that costs him imo is his sometimes unusual choice of finishes. I remember the q/f in 2006 when all he wanted to do was leave D14 all the time even though it was costing him sometimes another dart at the double. He needs more logical shots against Woods and even so I fancy Woods. Robbe 5/6 10 pts In truth Robbe has not got that good a record in major TV competitions. However in order to be here he has played well enough to get ranking points and he has also played well enough to have represented Holland in events like the World Cup where he reached the semis this so he has at least some form. I also saw him in a fairly recent event on the internet when he was constantly throwing 15 darters or better and on whatever stage that is a good level of form. His Dutch opponent has respectable results on the circuit but he was not that impressive when losing to Scholten at the WDT with an 81 average. I fancy Robbe here.

Re: Darts: BDO World Championships Surely all anderson needs to do is turn up and hes won this tourny! In my opinion he is by far the better player than anybody else in the bdo and its only a matter of time before the pdc sign him up-but i also like the looks of atkins and an e/w bet on him is my tip of the week!

Re: Darts: BDO World Championships Anderson v Roosenbrand Roosenbrand +2.5 sets 10 pts Evens Corals Anderson as we know is bang on favourite to win this event, but in recent years he's struggled on this Lakeside stage, but with his recent wins in the IDL and WDT his TV form is almost guaranteed. On the other hand we have Roosenbrand who is an up and coming young Dutchman, left handed with solid scoring. He came through the qualifiers to play in this tournament and beat Robert Wagner to gain his place 2-0. He's gone deep into tournaments in Holland and in the recent Holland Open Championship he was beaten 3-2(sets) by Dave Askew(PDC). This show's he can play at a high standard and with Anderson under pressure to perform from the off then Roosenbrand is under no pressure at all, which should mean he can just get up there and concentrate on throwing his darts. All he needs to do is grab 1 set and with his talent and a few nerves from Anderson then this is achievable.

Re: Darts: BDO World Championships Webster v Jones Jones +2.5 sets 10 pts 8/11 Corals Webster is Ranked No1 in this event and is a very talented left hander who as we've seen at the IDL can score and finish high.As we know the No1 seed is always under a lot of pressure to win and that creates nerves. Ian Jones on the other hand is very capable darts player,as proved when he came through the Qualifiers to play here. Now the interesting bit is in the final Qualifying match he beat Robert Thornton 2-1,Thornton then went on to win the Winmau World Masters to gain his place in this tournament. On that form alone Jones is easily worth 1 set here because again he's nothing to lose and Webster has.

Re: Darts: BDO World Championships Guys, i am going down there on Tuesday night for my annual pilgrimage to Lakeside (only live 7 miles away so have to go at least once). Tickets are sold out so will be a decent atmosphere. I havent had a decent look as yet but am interested in any young lads coming through the ranks as we have just seen with Shepherd & also Klassen a couple of years back. I will be looking at your anlysis very closely but will need some sets betting on the day to have a bet while i am there. :ok

Feck me Bowles you don't ask for much;):lol One that is catching my eye is Adams V Nixon Nixon 3-2 6-1 Bet365 2pts After last years monumental final we know Phil Nixon never gives up,he's been playing well all season and this time out he's got nothing to fear. Adams on the other hand has always been a bit shaky in the 1st round and with the tag of defending world champ it's gonna make it a lot harder for him this year i think. Expect a tight tussle in this match but I think without the added pressure when it does get to the final set Nixon will not fear Adams.

Re: Darts: BDO World Championships Now that this quarter cock up has been sorted (so many Maroon blazers;):) Richardson Quarter 1 16/1 1.5 pts see above Farmer Quarter 2 12/1 1.5 pts see above Stompe Quarter 4 5/1 3 pts As Gaz pointed out the draw is not terribly difficult until the q/f and also Stompe arrives with some form this year which has been good enough to make him the no.6 seed this year. He has just started to play a bit better on TV as well in the last couple of years and more like his form of around 1998. He knocked out defending champ Klaasen 3-0 last year and pushed T.Jenkins all the way in the WDT. Unusual throwing action but it works for him and Mercer, Woods/Handvidge is not a draw to be upset about imo. Waites would be harder in the q/f potentially but I am not even sure he will be there and he would not 5/1 if he was.

Re: Darts: BDO World Championships Must confess i don't know a great deal about the players in the BDO, so would like an informed opinion on this special from Skybet. they are 4/7 for a 170 checkout occuring during the tournament, would have thought there is bound to be one during the 31 matches?

Re: Darts: BDO World Championships Enjoy watching this on the box every year just a pity most of the best players don't play in it:\ It was good to see wolfie win it last year but i don't fancy him at all to retain the title in fact i think he will go out early doors. Two small win bets for interest.I agree with GazBlades that Co Stompe has a fair chance this year i also think Fitton can have a good run.If i could get about 20/1 on a nine darter i would have a small bet but is less than 1/2 that price so not interested. Will sit back and enjoy it as usual with a few :beer

Re: Darts: BDO World Championships Couple of quarter bets. 5pts M.Webster to win 1st Quarter 7/4 Corals When Mark Webster looked at the draw for the Lakeside he must have loved what he saw. Of course nobody should be taken lightly but he looks to have a nice path to at least the quarters. Ian Jones has already lost in this tournament but got allowed back in when Michael Rosenaeur decided Ally Pally offered more than the Lakeside so he should be disposed in the 1st round and then he'd have the winner of the de Ruiter/Power match. Again he shouldn't have too many problems there. Once we get to the quarter final stage it's best of 9 sets and Webster is a player who seems to enjoy the longer matches. He's made the final of the IDL, won the World Cup singles and the Welsh Open in 2007 and I can't see him not making the semis here. Assuming he gets past Jones I can't see him being beaten over the longer format before the semis. 3pts C.Stompe to win 4th Quarter 5/1 Stan James Co Stompe has plenty of Lakeside experience under his belt and he's another who'll have looked at his draw and been quite happy. Carl Mercer in the 1st round will be no trickier than any other qualifier and although Scott Waites is in his quarter this looks a dream path to the semis. It's Scotty 2 Hotty's 1st time at Lakeside and that in itself could cause problems as could Mike Veitch, his 1st round opponent. If Stompe gets to the quarter final though he'd have every chance of beating either over 9 sets so the Matchstick, who'll be the most popular player in the event with the crowd, is a sensible choice for the bottom quarter.

Re: Darts: BDO World Championships 2 for me on Saturday. 10pts J.Walton to beat R.Thornton 11/10 Blue Square John Walton is a solid enough player to merit support here. Robert Thornton won the Winmau World Masters in November but he had to win that just to qualify here. That in itself suggests he may not be the best in this company despite playing really well at Bridlington. John Boy didn't have a bad run in that event either. He made the semi finals there and hit a 9 dart finish along the way. Walton has been around for ages and knows how to come through the field here and at odds against I'll take the Yorkshireman to win what is the game of the round. 10pts G.Moody to beat N.de Ruiter 5/4 VC Niels de Ruiter has had a bit of a shocking time of it recently, none more so than at the Grand Slam where to be kind he was crap. de Ruiter has been suffering from vertigo apparently and that won't help his cause although I've only heard Steve Beaton mention that at the Grand Slam, I've not heard about it anywhere else. Glenn Moody is pretty unknown to our screens but has been playing some good darts locally in Superleagues and Moody should have the weapons to beat the Dutch kid here.
