kevshat
Re: England vs Pakistan Test Series Test series starts on Thursday and I'll play a few outright picks. 10pts Pakistan to win test series 2.92 Betfair England have all sorts of injuries coming into this series, some will return during the series, others won't. Those who England will have to do without for the whole series are Vaughan, Jones and Giles - 3 key members in the Ashes winning side of last summer. Mixing with captains and things isn't going to help England at all I don't think and with no Flintoff for the 1st test and every chance of no Hoggard too Pakistan could go 1-0 up and not look back. Pakistan are an emerging force in World Cricket again and have some excellent young players coming through under the guidance of the excellent Bob Woolmer. In Inzamam-Ul-Haq they have a superb player who is as reliable as they come, he is one of a strong top order of batting and they have plenty of pace in their bowling lineup even without the injured Shoaib Akthar. Pakistan beat England 2-0 in Pakistan in the winter and I think they are a good bet to repeat that outcome by winning the series over here too. 5pts S.Butt Top Pakistan Runscorer 6/1 Ladbrokes Salman Butt had an excellent Test Series in Pakistan, hitting 300 runs at an average of 60. He was only outscored by Inzamam and Mohammed Yousuf in that series. Having hit 2 half-centuries and a century in that series he'll know he can bat against these English bowlers. Originally I had my doubts whether his technique would hold up in English conditions but he's started the tour in superb fashion with 68 at Leicester and then knocks of 63 and 50 in the A game at Canterbury last week. He'll be confident coming into this series and if anyone can stop the main duo top scoring it could be the left-handed opener. 2pts I.Bell Top England Runscorer 12/1 Betdirect Ian Bell top scored in Pakistan with 313 runs at an average of 52.16 and that was a gutsy effort coming off the back of a poor Ashes series by his standards. He comes into this series not as a 1st team regular but will play the 1st test as Flintoff's replacement. He'll need a good start to keep his place for the remainder of the series but he'll have done his chances no harm with 74 and 50 in the England A vs Pakistan game. He clearly loves batting against the Pakistani bowlers and if he gets to play all 4 tests he'll be right in contention for top English scorer. 2pts S.Butt Top Series Runscorer 16/1 Sporting Odds See my outright pick for Butt to be top Pakistan runscorer for details of this bet but even with the English batsmen included in this bet he's overpriced as England only really have 2-3 batsmen in any nick. If he top scores for Pakistan there's every chance he'll top score in the series too.

TheRat
Re: England vs Pakistan Test Series Monty top scoring batsman looks the bet of the year to me at 500/1 :lol Serious though I'm really not sure about this series. I totally agree that we are poor at the moment, mainly due to the loss of key players, and many of the new school didn't step up against Sri Lanka which was a worry. Pakistan are indeed up and coming and have in fact just taken Englands second spot in the test rankings. With England at home though I'm just not sure. Pakistan are without Shoaib Akhtar and Rana-Naved-ul-Hasan also, and did not really impress against England A last week. One bet I would be tempted to put on is KP to be top England batsmen at 3.65 on betfair. He hit a century against Pakistan in the last series over thier and was in top form against Sri Lanka, hopefully he can transfer this form into this series. He played Murali extremely well and with a few of Pakistans pace out they may rely on spin a little bit more also. If I had to pick I would slide towards home advantage and say England will win, and I may put down a small bet just as an interest in the tests. Good Luck people :ok

You are spot on Ali, and thanks for pointing that out mate, the main reason I've just gone with the 10pts Pakistan on the nose though is so that I can stick it on SP. Both sides have a good spinner now - Kaneria for them is better than good but we have Monty who will take wickets I'm sure, so if the dry summer carries on then pitches will dry up and crack up bringing spinners right into the game. We have a problem playing big spin so we may fold which could bring 4 results into play.

kevshat
Re: England vs Pakistan Test Series Just 1 more series bet before it gets going. 5pts M.Panesar Top England Wicket Taker 4/1 Bet365 This series ventures to Old Trafford and The Oval - both turning tracks and with Monty being our only spin bowler I expect him to get a lot of work, he's made a good start to his test career with the ball and I'm expecting him to have a good series with the ball here. With Flintoff missing for 1 match and possibly Hoggard too he has a headstart over those which will help greatly. There's talk the Lords pitch will turn too so he could be involved all through the series.
kevshat
Re: England vs Pakistan Test Series I think I'm going to swerve a bet on the 1st test match outright and have an in-running play as the match progresses maybe. I always want to see how a pitch plays before parting with my hard earned anyway and hopefully an in-running opportunity will present itself. I've been scouring the many sides markets offered and come up with a few bets that I like. 10pts D.Kaneria's Performance Points 97&Over 5/6 Bet365 Points are scored as follows: 1pt per run, 10pts per catch & 20pts per wicket. This is a bet I like the look of very much. Danish Kaneria had success against England out in Pakistan and he'll need only 5 wickets in the match to cover this spread. From what I've heard about the pitch, it's been put under a light cover which has meant the sun has been getting to it so it will break up quickly as the match progresses. That suits the spinners perfectly and Kaneria is Pakistan's main spinner. Lords also has a slope on the pitch which will help him turn the ball. With Pakistan missing a few seam bowlers I can see Kaneria having lots of bowling to do and when you consider England's constant collapses against quality spin, Kaneria should cover this target. 10pts Inzamam to beat M.Yousuf 1.87 Expekt This is a bet which covers the 1st innings only. I think we are getting a good price on Inzi here. Last time Pakistan were over here Inzamam averaged 107.75 thanks to 3 50's and 2 100's in his 5 innings. Overall in tests in England he averages 44.14 which is significantly higher than Mohammed Yousuf's 21.25. Inzi, man of the series when the 2 sides met in Pakistan last winter, beat Yousuf in the 1st innings in 2 of the 3 tests in that series too so history suggests we have a good bet here. 8pts I.Bell to score 50 or more in 1st innings 15/8 Stan James Ian Bell's test average vs Pakistan is 52.16 and in the A team match last week he made 74 and 50 so all the stats suggest he can score 50 runs here. The pitch here will be as good as the ones he batted on in Pakistan and probably better than last weeks pitch. Last week he faced Mohammed Asif who misses out in this match which should mean he's facing a weaker attack and I reckon the Warwickshire batsmen can go on and notch another test match half century in the 1st innings here. 5pts Pakistan to score 500+ in 1st innings 2/1 Ladbrokes In the 3rd test in Pakistan, Pakistan hit England for well over 600 in their innings, they hit 462 in their 1st innings in the 2nd test in that series too so they are used to hitting big numbers against us recently. Then put into the mix that in the last test at Lords Sri Lanka knocked 537-9 in their 2nd innings against a Flintoff led attack and I think we've got a good chance of seeing another big score made here. In recent tests the Lords wicket has been excellent to bat on and hopefully Pakistan will make full use of it and go beyond the 500 run mark. 1pt M.Panesar Man of the Match 20/1 Ladbrokes As I've mentioned in a couple of the other bets, this pitch will turn on days 4 and 5, and the indications are there will be lots of turn. Monty is a great spin bowler and he gets lots of turn. If he happens to get use of this pitch on day 4 and 5 then there's every chance he can run through the Pakistani line up and claim the MoM award. In the recent Eng A game, 7 Pakistani 1st innings wickets fell to spin twins Dalrymple and Loudon. That shows their lineup can surrender to spin. Monty turns the ball more than either of those 2 so on a turning 5th day pitch he can be a real menace for the Pakistani batsmen. He's also built up a bit of a cult following in this country which could help him get the nod if the decision is tight.

davidmphill
Re: England vs Pakistan Test Series Good to see Strauss choosing to bat following winning the toss. Hopefully they can puch on and put a good score on the board for the weakened bowling attack to play with.

Yea - good start Like I said, with Hoggard in (and now we are batting he has a few more days hopefully to rest) I would say their bowling attack may be as depleated as ours This 1st innings now is key
davidmphill
Re: England vs Pakistan Test Series Not watching the game as I'm in work but from reading cricinfo it seems that Pakistan are bowling like England did in the ODI series v Sri Lanka right now! England can't face spin bowling and with the amount he's turning it he's going to get tonnes of wickets this series. Was 5/2 when it opened, been cut to 9/4. Think this is a winner personally 10 points Kaneira top series bowler at 3.25 with Sportingodds
mullet1984
Re: England vs Pakistan Test Series 10pts D.Kaneria's Performance Points 97&Over 5/6 Bet365 Points are scored as follows: 1pt per run, 10pts per catch & 20pts per wicket. You've picked out twop crackers there mate. That Inzaman bet almost a fill your boots job as far as i'm concerned. I don't care what anyone says Inzaman against Yousuf is like Lebanon against Israel, a bit one sided. I'd be going more like 4/6, 11/10 although i haven't priced it up properly yet. Stop stuff even they don't come in. Kaneria will also piss home five wickets in this test. Got the quote 2 work!!
