Serie A Predictions > Aug 21st - 23rd

Recommended Posts

Serie A should be good this year!  Champions sold off a lot of key pieces, and due to this I cannot see them repeating.  Obviously Juve will be strong again, and adding Locatelli only going to help. Should be favorites to win.  But the Special One in Roma is going to be some good drama.  And AC Milan has quietly put together a decent side, although losing Donnarumma is a pretty massive loss.

For week one fixtures I'll pretty much just watch, lots of new coaches, not sure how formations will be setup and some players will certainly be rested after the Euro's early on.

However, I do like goals so I did do a double here of Lazio/Empoli o2.5/Torino/Atalanta o3 at +240.  Lazio has been scoring goals for fun in the preseason, and they brought back Felipe Anderson from West Ham and he really flourished his last spell in Serie A and I'd expect more of that.  Newly promoted side was tied for highest scoring team in Serie B last year, and I'd expect them to get into the attack against Lazio as well.  Lazio has a number of holes in defense, and is switching formations a bit, I think this game will be plenty open.  Atalanta is a relentlessly attacking team and has all of their key pieces back along with some nice additions (maybe Zupata leaves, but still there for now).  Torino has a new coach after a pretty disappointing season, but they certainly have a team with goals in them (As well as allowing goals).

It's the first week so just for some fun here.

Torino vs Atalanta

The hosts had an ultimately disappointing season last time, as they finished just above the red line. Torino hoped to challenge for one of the continental spots, but they struggled all the way through the campaign. Despite being very productive in front of the oppositions’ net, their defense was one of the leakiest in the competition. Andrea Belotti and the lads aim for a safe mid-table finish this time, but they will search for a chance to secure continental football for the next season. Davide Nicola’s side will face a tough test in the opening round as Atalanta comes to town. We’ll see whether Torino is ready to produce better results in the upcoming campaign.

Atalanta secured another Champions League ticket after finishing 3rd last season. La Dea was perhaps the most entertaining team in Serie A and one of the most interesting to follow in Europe. Gian Piero Gasperini doesn’t give up on the attacking approach, and Atalanta was lethal for the oppositions’ goalkeepers last season. The visitors didn’t make too many changes in their squad during the transfer window, and their leading players remained in the club. Although Atalanta is not considered one of the favorites to win the Scudetto, they have the quality to finish in the top four again. To remain at the top of Italian football, they need a confident start in the new campaign.

Full-Time Winner Odds & Prediction

Torino barely managed to eliminate Cremonese in Coppa Italia, and they will have a hard time against Atalanta. The visitors are favorites in this clash, and we believe they will open the new season with a victory.

Goals Market Prediction

Their head-to-head clashes have been a joy to watch lately. Football fans could enjoy at least six goals in their last three clashes, while the previous four went over a 4.5 margin. We expect the tradition to continue and to see at least three goals in this one.

Atalanta to Win @ 1.60

Over 2.5 FT @ 1.55

Correct score 1:3 @ 12.00

Bologna

Bologna's strength in Serie A belongs to the mid-range. In order to enhance their ability, the team has 10 players to join in the new season. However, the last round of the Italian Cup faced low-level teams and eventually lost 4-5. The state and morale were relatively poor.

Salernitana

Salernitana upgraded to the second place in the second division last season. Their offensive ability is relatively weak, but the defense is solid. Last round of the Italian Cup defeated Regina 2-0, with good morale.

Betting Verdict:

Bologna is not in good shape, but strength has advantages. The 1X2 first odds is 1.75-3.60-5.00, which means support the home team. Bologna should win this game.

Pick: 1

Roma vs Fiorentina

The hosts couldn’t do better than finishing 7th last season, which only brought a place in the Europa Conference League. However, Roma appointed Jose Mourinho, hoping that the Portuguese head coach can lead them in the top-four battle. Giallorossi did well in the front, but their poor defending cost them too many points. Roma split ways with Edin Dzeko, but also signed Tammy Abraham, Eldor Shomurodov to replace him. They also strengthened the defense with Roger Ibanez and Matias Vina, while the experienced goalkeeper Rui Patricio will be the opponents’ last obstacle. The hosts were very poor on the road last season, and if they improve that record, they might hope for challenging a top-four place.

Fiorentina stagnated last time, and they disappointed their fans by finishing 13th. The visitors booked only nine victories, while they were involved in many draws. Viola’s defense was among the worst in the league – only Benevento, Parma, and Crotone conceded more, and those are the three teams that got relegated. Vincenzo Italiano signed Igor and Matija Nastasic, who should help out Nikola Milenkovic in the back. On the other hand, their most expensive signing is a left-winger Nicolas Gonzalez, who arrived from Stuttgart in a €23.5 million deal. The away side aims for the top half finish this time, and they hope to get involved in the battle for continental spots.

Full-Time Winner Odds & Prediction

After a mid-week trip to Trabzon, Roma heads to this clash, where they booked a 2:1 victory in the ECL Quals. Although Fiorentina is fresher for this match, we think the hosts will meet the expectations and pick up all three points.

Goals Market Prediction

Both sides were involved in many efficient matches last season. Also, their head-to-head clashes have been pretty productive. Just one of their previous six encounters remained under a 2.5 margin, and we expect to see at least three goals in this one.

Roma to Win @ 1.80

Over 2.5 FT @ 1.70

Correct score 3:2 @ 19.00
