WSOP Update

Just fell over this on cardplayer... The player in seat 4 at table 128 has found a way to "mask" his emotions at the poker table . When he is in a hand he puts on a giant authentic Elmo costume head. That's right, Elmo. From Sesame Street. The T.V. show. :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin :rollin

Re: WSOP Update IMG_1175.jpg An absolute massacre with various high-profile casualties on day 1a and they still haven't finished playing after 13 hours! Only ten more players to lose and that's it for a couple of days for these players! :eek ....would you have thought Shannon Elizabeth and Lucy Liu would still be in the running?! :rollin Cardplayer is OK, PokerPages is alright but I find Poker Wire to be pretty darn quick on who's been knocked out. It wasn't pretty, but he'll take it With only about 8k left, Toto Leonidas pushed in in middle position. He was called with [Q][Q] and he chuckled when he turned over [5][3]. The flop offered some hope with [A♠][6♥][2♣] and the turn paired him up with the [3♠]. The river bailed him out when it delivered the [3♣], giving him the runner-runner prayer. Even Toto shared a laugh, knowing he had cheated poker death. :lol

Re: WSOP Update Harrah's website is indeed rubbish. As I've said try: * Cardplayer * PokerPages * Poker Wire Gutshot are also doing their own coverage through a mini-site on their home page although a little slow as to real time what's happening compared to the opposition, it's pretty alright considering the lack of variety out there. Some of the poker bloggers are doing their damndest to cover the event and I quite like Tao of Poker although he only does it for a few hours.

Re: WSOP Update From the Tao of Poker: 12:30am... Featured Table update: More Hellmuthian hijinks! Phil made a huge laydown. He had A-K and flop trips on a flop of A-A-4. His opponent had a full house with A-4 and Phil shouted out to his wife, "Honey, I should have gone broke on that hand!" Then he stood up and pointed at the guy with the full house, "I betcha didn't know. I can dodge bullets, baby!" :lol

Re: WSOP Update Yep...excellent fold it has to be said. He turned up over 2 hrs late apparently, in a limo, flanked by 2 private security guards and a personal section of the ESPN TV crew :rollin As one internet site said - you would think he was turning up for a heads up title fight showdown, not a lotto style 6000-1 gamble fest :lol Jez

Re: WSOP Update A friend of mine from the local casino game has made it through the first day! From pokerpages.com..... "Andrew Gray Aberdeen, Scotland $31,175 " He is a top bloke and a good loose aggressive poker player. I know several people who qualified but out of them all I tipped andy to be the one with the biggest chance to do something. This is mainly because he really doesnt give a fcuk about losing (first hand of the day or if he is 2nd chipleader before the bubble up against the chipleader) and will happily raise people all in left right and centre. The upshot of this is he generally either busts early or wins every chip on the table - just what is needed to have a chance in something like this. He qualified on laddies only a month or two ago for 4 dollars. I will have to check today and tomorrows results to see if anyone else I know personally made it through but COME ON ANDY!!!!!! :clap :clap :hope Jez

Hellmuth Gone!!! :eek Phil Hellmuth Eliminated Log: Phil Hellmuth had a horrible hour at the featured table. He was finally all in with Ad-Qh against Paul "X-22" Magriel's pocket sevens (7h-7d). The crowd was mixed in their support, with some rooting for Phil, and some against him. (Oddly enough, nobody seemed to be for Magriel, just against Hellmuth.) It was a race situation as the flop came Jc-9h-4c. Hellmuth didn't improve, and was now drawing pretty thin, needing to catch a queen, an ace, or a runner-runner straight to stay alive. The turn card paired the board with the 9s, and the river card was the 5d. Phil Hellmuth, who had an excellent day on Friday, had the bottom drop out after midnight, and was eliminated from the Main Event. As he was leaving, he said to his wife, "That was the worst hour of poker in my life." The way he said it made it unclear whether he was referring to the cards or the players. :eek

Re: WSOP Update I should have said before...hellmuth very quickly accumulated a lot of chips at the start of the day. Turning his starting stack of 10k into 50k after a few hours play....to be eliminated on the same day is a brutal turn around. Jez

Re: WSOP Update information for all you guys that play live games as well.... Taken from wsop This tournament has just had two simultaneous, brilliant examples of why you see players putting chips and various other objects on top of their hole cards. It´s not just for show. Instance #1 - With the board showing A-J-8-J-2 a player with a made full house (8-8 in his hand) decides to posture for a bit. He stands up, and acts as if he´s got a difficult decision to make. Finally he sits back down, picks up his cards, puts them in front of his chips, and starts to count out his bet. As he´s counting, the dealer takes his cards and slides them into the muck. The man disputes the call, and the floor is called. The floor reinforces the dealer´s explanation: it is the player´s responsibility to protect his or her hand. Once a card has been mucked, it cannot be retrieved. The hand is dead. Instance #2 - Meanwhile, on another table, just as the dealer is explaining to the player in seat #1 that he should always protect his hand, the player in seat #2 attempts to fold, and accidentally tosses them on top of seat #1´s cards. The floor´s ruling is the same: always protect your hand. If your cards touch mucked cards, your hand is also dead. The player in this case was forced to leave his $200 call in the pot. In a show of remorse, seat #2 attempts to reimburse the man for his lost $200 bet, and although the floorman respects the decision, he also states that chip exchange is also illegal, and cannot occur.

Re: WSOP Update If anyone was betting on which of the four Hendon Mob members would survive the longest, Joe Beevers is the winner with the Boatman brothers and Ram Vaswani all busting out on their first days. Joe's survived to play on 'day 2'. I'm pissed off as he was 5/2 and I didn't want to gamble! :sad Date/Time: 2005-07-09 21:49:00 Title: Emad "The Arabian Beast" Alabsi Bluff's the Waiter Log: Emad "The Arabian Beast" Alabsi was sitting on the rail, when a waiter, we'll name him Gary Turnbuckle to protect the innocent, came walking by. Alabsi was parched, and politely asked Hookerpants for a bottle of water. "I can only serve players sir," Turnbuckle said. "I'm sorry." "I am a player," Alabsi replied. "You are?" Turnbuckle asked, as "The Arabian Beast" went into his pocket and pulled out an equally beastly bankroll, and peeled off two crisp $1 bills. "What seat are you in?" Turnbuckle asked as he continued his interrogation. "Table 136 seat 7." Alabsi replied with the icey calm of a gambler. Turnbuckle went into the tank, and then extended a trembling hand filled with ice cold spring water. Alabsi handed him the two fresh Washingtons, and the transaction was complete. Turnbuckle went on his merry way, to serve "other" players. Though as soon as he was out of sight Alabsi turned to the CardPlayer.com desk and winked. "You like that?" Alabsi asked. We do Emad. You truly are an "Arabian Beast." Turnbuckle didn't even know he was had until he came back through the area, and let Alabsi know that the gig was up. "Someone's in your seat, buddy." Turnbuckle told Alabsi. Alabsi got the best of it this time. It's no wonder he survived Day 1 of the Main Event, and is still alive in the hunt for World Series gold. :rollin

Re: WSOP Update Raymer is a very talented tournament player, I'm sure he got lucky along the way to triumph in a field that size last year, but his game is most definitely worthy of a final table - I'd not be surprised to see him there again. Moneymaker on the other hand...........

Re: WSOP Update The lucky comment was meant to be sarcastic. Raymer is alot better than people gave him credit for. He was playing reasonably high stakes for a while before winning the big one. He also played the main event in 2002 and 2003 i believe. Seems like a geniune bloke as well. So best of luck to him. Lets hope he gets heads up with "the mouth" that would be interesting.

Re: WSOP Update I think raymer last year was a very deserving champion...... OK so he won a lot of coin flips, he also caught a few cards in some pots. ANYONE who wins a large MTT has to win their coinflips along the way and almost certainly will have caught a few cards at key times - it doesn't change the fact he is a great player. I saw a documentary on him once where he talked about card couting at blackjack for 10 minutes. These 10 minutes alone really impressed me as he clearly knew his stuff about pro gambling in general - also came across as a decent bloke (unlike arieh who came across as a total dick :lol). Moneymaker on the other hand - people slag him off and I agree he is not as good as raymer HOWEVER..... If you remember the 2003 WSOP there was a key hand he played with dutch boyd very deep into the tournament. Both him and boyd had very large chip stacks in relation to the rest of the table. Moneymaker raises preflop with 33, boyd flat calls with KQ. The flop comes 10 6 4 (or some equivalent...three overcards but no paint). Boyd checks and moneymaker makes a decent bet. Boyd then check-raises all in (for all money makers chips...if he folds he still has a large stack). Moneymaker thinks for a while before telling the dealer "keep em low" and calling, turning over his 33. You have to give him credit for this - almost all of us would fold in that spot and you would probably be lying if you said otherwise, not only did he make a read that was spot on he had the balls to risk his whole tournament and a great position on it. His 33 held up and that gave him the chips he went on to win with. Boyd looks sick afterwards and can only muster a "that was a hell of a call man". Yes he gave out some sick outdraws - noteably against ivey with 10 players left - but that call on its own is one of a world champion IMO. Anyway onto this years tourney...it is hotting up nicely and they are into the money DANIEL IS STILL IN THE TOP 20 NOW WITH 580,000 CHIPS - GO ON MY SON!!!! Jez

Re: WSOP Update Well trying to follow the WSOP, the best place apart from being in Las Vegas (and you won't get that close to where most of the action is at anyway) is online at the various sites/blogs that are covering the event. ESPN are doing nothing right now and start showing the shows in August at the earliest. Can't wait until some bookies post some odds come closer the end as we'll have match-betting, overall winner betting plus a few other prop bets (I want my £100 back from Blue Square!). Definitely will be final table betting and I can't remember particularly well but I think Greg Raymer was a warm 2/1 favourite with Ladbrokes because of his huge chip lead over the others. I've already lost but I'm looking a right 'nana for even risking £25 with Paddy Power that Erik Seidel would outlast John Juanda. :eyes :lol :nana If Greg Raymer does the seemingly impossible and wins again, it'll say something about him. I think some of the bias going against him (have you read the stuff on the Cardplayer forums?! It's both asinine in the praise and negativity towards the guy) is because he's a fat lad and there aren't too many famous fat lads out there who are getting praised for being good in their various gigs. Greg Raymer has done what most of the pros haven't and I'll suggest it's his ability to steer the fish into carrying out bad decisions, generally hold on to a chip lead and being able to mix it with the more recognized pros (anyone who saw the British Poker Open final on The Poker Channel where he finished third might disagree slightly when he needlessly called someone's all-in with A2o! The other fella Adam Dujmovic had him dominated with an ace and a much better kicker (an eight I think) and the kicker played). Rightfully or wrongfully, Greg Raymer could become a WSOP legend and it won't be his fault as all he's don e is play some fantastic poker to do so.
