Re: Ante-Post > Premier League 2014/15 Winner Luiz is off to PSG for around £48 million, a bonkers price for a defender that can't defend. Lampard has been released (hope United snap him up), Cole released, Costa is in and they will surely bring Courtois back? The addition of Costa alone to the team really gives Chelsea what they have been missing, and I think they will win the league next season. Going to wait a while, want to see some of the big summer buys before I make my mind up, City might strengthen again. Liverpool now have Champions League to contend with so it will be very tough for them next season, they don't have the squad at the moment to compete in both. So it looks like it is between City and Chelsea next season.

Re: Ante-Post > Premier League 2014/15 Winner Can City strengthen to meet the fair play criteria though? Not sure how it works to be honest. Agree with you on Chelsea, I think if Costa joins it will be the final piece of the jigsaw, and I expect a big year from Schurrle who I rate highly. I think utd hold value, van gaal won the Dutch, German, and Spanish leagues in his first year in charge which bodes well. They will certainly bring in and attract big players, he will get the best out of the current crop, and even more so, no Europe to focus on, so all eggs in one basket.

Re: Ante-Post > Premier League 2014/15 Winner It is a bit early, a lot of transfers yet to go through, but I can't ignore the price of Manchester City and I had to take it. Manchester City ------------------ It is very hard to see City not in the first two in the league next season, they simply have too much firepower. They were rather poor away from home last season, especially in the early part of the season, yet they still went on to win the league. The main reason for this was their home form and when you have prolific goalscorers like Aguero, Negredo and Dzeko in the side, you are guaranteed to score a bucket of goals. I am not sure if Yaya Toure is going to be there next season, but bar Chelsea it is hard to see anyone competing with City again next season. Chelsea ------------- This side is definitely going to be the biggest threat to City next season but they are now favourites to win the league which I don't agree with personally. They have now got the services of Fabregas, who is a very good player no doubt but he hasn't seen much first team football at Barcelona since he went there and for me he is nowhere near the player he was at Arsenal. The signing of Costa should be done after the World Cup and for all he had an amazing season with Atletico Madrid, doing it in the English League is not so easy as Diego Forlan and Robinho etc found out. Chelsea's season will revolve around Costa but if he fails to deliver they will struggle to win the league again. Manchester United --------------------- We should see big improvements at Old Trafford next season with Van Gaal coming in. He is a coach with a big pair of balls and he isn't afraid to make a big decision just like taking off Van Persie v Mexico and the sub Huntelaar got the winner and an assist. Van Persie will probably be made captain so it would be fair to think Robin could easily have a terrific season next year and I expect him to score a lot of goals as he will play his heart out for Van Gaal. The signings of Shaw and Herrera are also massive for United, the Spaniard will add a bit of bite in midfield and Shaw is touted to be one of the best young things around. I personally, as a United fan, still don't think we can win the league next season though, there are still big problems that need resolving, especially at the back and in midfield so I am hoping we can finish 3rd. Arsenal ---------- Won't spend too long here. They can't rely on Giroud to win a league for them, they need more options up front, they need more players that can play with a bit of bite instead of pussy-footing around the field. They don't track back when they don't have the ball which is a big problem and for all I love their footballing philosophy, you still have to work hard when you don't have the ball and they simply don't. They need to bring in a few more players, I think 4th is their best hope. Liverpool ----------- Going to be very tough for the Pool this season for me. Luis Suarez has done them no favours, he will be out until November. Now that they have Champions League football too could really make things tough for them, they don't have the strength in depth to challenge for the league and also get far in the Champions League. It was ok last season when they could put all of their focus on the league and they very nearly won it. I think Liverpool will struggle this season. The clear value for me are City, I had a good bet on them. Manchester City - 10 Points WIN @ 3.1 Betfair

Re: Ante-Post > Premier League 2014/15 Winner Arsenal to win the premier league @ 9.4 matched (betfair) > 2.5% BR Price is starting to come in slightly for Arsenal so I’m gonna invest in them now with a view to laying them off later in the season. Would have liked to wait for the Sanchez transfer to be done and dusted but markets are starting to move so have pulled the trigger on this one. Arsenal have been in the title race wilderness for some time now, Wenger’s holistic approach to club management has seen gains off the pitch as opposed to on it over the past few years. Clearly switching to the Emirates has been the prime factor behind the tightening of the belt but now the storm has been weathered, Wenger is prepared to get out the cheque book once more to boost his squad. The potential signing of Alexis Sanchez is simply excellent in my view, the Chilean is so versatile, capable of playing in the full range of forward roles. His technical ability aside, the injection of pace and intelligent runs he will bring to Arsenal’s attack is crucial. We really did not see the best of Mesut Ozil for his debut season in the EPL. When Theo Walcott became injured, Arsenal had little pace or movement in the forward areas. Ozil thrives on dynamic forward runners getting on the end of his pin-point through balls, instead, every time he looked up to feed someone all he got was Olivier Giroud. The bottom line, not only is the Sanchez acquisition a great buy in itself, it will also help to elevate the strengths of Arsenal’s other marquee signing – Mesut Ozil. As far as 2013/2014 goes, I was generally impressed with this young Arsenal side. They seem to have a spirit and psychological strength that has been somewhat absent in recent Arsenal incarnations. To comeback from 0-2 down in the FA Cup final could well be a massive psychological turning point for the team, the experience can only aid them in their quest for future success. For me momentum is building at the club and Arsenal are going to be a much bigger threat in the title race than they have been in the recent past. Of course, for all the positive things happening at Arsenal at the moment there are still some serious question marks hanging over the team which need to be addressed. Although Wenger is clearly going to add depth and quality to his squad this summer, I am still deeply concerned by their training practices. It seems every season you can guarantee that key players become injured and subsequently hamper Arsenal’s chances of silverware. Last season it was Ramsey and Walcott but it really does follow a familiar pattern. I have now reached the conclusion that the consistent injuries they suffer are no fluke and must be something to do with the intensity at which they train. Wenger and his staff have to realize that a season is August – May. It’s no good being world beaters through till January then always capitulating at the business end of the campaign. With the additional signings that Arsenal are making this summer, I believe it will be less of an issue in 2014/2015 than previous seasons but ultimately it is something which needs to be looked at seriously. The other issue with this young Arsenal side is the level of naivety they play with when facing the other big dogs in the EPL. The beatings they took against City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Everton must not be repeated. Wenger does indeed have a set philosophy and likes to play in a certain style, generally speaking it works very well and I have tremendous admiration for his side. Unfortunately Arsenal have been exploited a little too often when playing their direct competitors in recent seasons. Ultimately Wenger should not be written off though, granted his methods are usually perceived as holistic rather than tactical but Wenger himself recently stated he is still a student of the game and always learning how to improve as a manager. Punters should expect a more flexible and dynamic Wenger in 2014/2015 with a group of players at his disposal which grows ever stronger, potentially a very dangerous combination. Looking at Aidymac’s preview I agree that at present there are only 2 main contenders for the EPL crown: Man City and Chelsea. For me Arsenal, Manchester Utd and Liverpool are the chasing pack with Arsenal the only one which could come from left field and make a run for the title as things stand. Manchester Utd can finally get the real rebuilding process underway and have already made some very decent young signings. Van Gaal is a strong appointment imo and the experience and tactical acumen he will bring to the team will surely help them in the games against their direct opponents at the top of the league. In terms of cohesion, Man Utd are still someway behind Arsenal at this present stage and I cannot really understand why van Gaal’s side are priced around 6.8 in this market while Arsenal are 9.4. Man Utd finished a full 15 points behind Arsenal last season and such a deficit makes it hard to fathom the current discrepancy in prices. It’s been written hundreds of times over the last year or so but of course it’s true, this Man Utd team requires almost a complete rebuild and this cannot be done in one window. Even with lots of money thrown at the problem and van Gaal in charge, it’s logical to assume 2014/2015 will still be a transitional season for the club with champions league qualification once again within their grasp. So things definitely moving in the right direction for Utd but I think we will have to wait for 2015/2016 before we can see them as a genuine force once more. Liverpool are loosing Suarez, he was unplayable at times last season, how do you quantify the loss of such a threatening component to your team? Well it will be partially offset by the fact Liverpool are making significant additions to their squad this window, bringing in some much needed depth that will allow them to compete on multiple fronts. The style of Liverpool wont change, out of all the teams to come down Selhurst in 2013/2014, Liverpool were simply light years ahead of their competitors in an attacking sense. Palace’s backline was torn to shreds and I was very impressed with the way Brendan Rodgers side dismantled us at will. For every Cadburys crème egg there is a Kinder Surprise and the issues with Liverpool’s backline is well documented. You can play the most incisive and dynamic attacking style you like but a weak backline is simply unacceptable in the EPL. The loss of Suarez, defensive concerns and a campaign on multiple fronts means Liverpool can’t really be considered title contenders in 2014/2015 although I still consider them a dynamic and progressive side, capable of crushing anyone in an individual match. Again, when you compare Liverpool’s price of 10.5 to Manchester Utd’s 6.8 in this market then the gap does seem a little too wide. Their valuations for the winners market should be closer together imo with Man Utd lengthening slightly and Liverpool shortening slightly. All in all lots to consider and things will once again be interesting with the battle at the top this year. Arsenal have already proven they are capable of going on excellent runs of form and gaining top spot in the EPL, even after several months of the campaign. For me their team will only get stronger this year and I don’t expect their current winners market valuation to last. Ultimately Manchester City and Chelsea are geared to close the deal in the final 3rd of the season but Arsenal may just have a say in things for longer than people will be expecting. I’m happy to take them now at 9.4 and then trade out further down the line when they should be a fair bit shorter.

Re: Ante-Post > Premier League 2014/15 Winner For me the Premier league is becoming more and more polarized. It's not a healthy situation when 15 teams never have a chance to win it. What kind of product is that ? Liverpool, without Suarez's goals will struggle this season. I don't see them finishing better than 5, especially with the Champions-league games midweek. Man United will be back, and I think will challenge for the title. Moyes, a decent man , was simply out of his depth. van Gaal is not. He's sharp and will get far more out of a more than decent squad with Nani, Herrera, Mata, Carrick, Januzai, Shaw, Jones, Rooney. United do look thin up front, and still a center back shy. Arsenal will be similar to last season. Early season promise will fade away in the gloom of Feb and March. Arsenal and United will fight out 3rd and 4th Top 2 between Chelsea and Man City. Not much to choose between these two , but the additional of Diego Costa could make that marginal difference. Check out these stats. They are top 8 versus top 8 performance stats for the premier league. Man United scored 8 goals in 14 games, conceding 23. They will not be this atrocious in another 10 years ! Chelsea were dynamite against the top 8, winning ALL 7 at home, and losing just 1 away which is unreal. They conceded just 6 goals in 14 games against the top 8. They lost last season's league with awful performances against relatively weak teams ! Re: Ante-Post > Premier League 2014/15 Winner Neilovan I think the premier league is be far the most exciting on the planet.. Man city, Liverpool, Chelsea, arsenal and united all have a chance this coming season. In Spain apart from last season two teams always dominate, Bayern are in control in Germany, juve cleaning up in Italy. 5 teams with a chance of winning the league is a great %

Re: Ante-Post > Premier League 2014/15 Winner I had Man City down to win the league last season - along with Man Utd funnily enough - and somehow they did although it was really down to the failure of others than themselves being far and away the best side. I don't see City heavily strengthening this summer, partly down to the fair play rules and partly because they won't think they need to. A central defender will be the main priority and Mangala will probably join from Porto. Chelsea are 'the' side for the big matches as we all know, but they dropped points at daft times, I don't see that happening this season as much as it did last year. They have signed superb players already in Felipe, Fabregas, and potentially Costa (not totally convinced on him) and will add more squad depth during the summer plus they have two returning players in Lukaku and Courtios who are both worth £20m+, any other big signings will be a bonus at this stage. The defence has been rock solid generally and I don't see that changing Felipe is a direct replacement for Cole. Matic will show this season that he could be the best defensive midfielder around as he was superb from the moment he signed in Jan, Fabregas will add creativity and passing ability in the middle, Hazard should go from strength to strength. I'm not totally convinced Costa is worth £30m to be honest, but he should be better than the shambles they had up front last season - Costa, Lukaku and Torres certainly sounds better than Torres, Ba and Eto, even if Lukaku leaves they will have to replace him. City are heavily reliant on Toure and Silva in the middle to provide goals and creativity respectively, Chelsea are a unit who aren't overly reliant on one player and they have far more strength in depth this season. Aguero looks increasingly susceptible to injuries and Negredo didn't score from January onwards, I watched them virtually every week and they struggled in a lot of matches after Christmas, I think although they have a big squad they are overly reliant of a few key performers and when they aren't there they struggle badly. Mourinho said he didn't expect them to win the league last season but this year they will give it a real go, considering how close they came last season despite their various squad problems I don't see them losing it this year with a vastly improved team. Chelsea Premiership Winners 2014/15 - 3.0 - betfair - 10 Points This is my banker bet, if it comes in as I'm expecting then it will more than cover my punt on the title winner. Das Phantom has provided a good summary above so I won't go on too long. I missed the best prices on Arsenal winning the league which I might have considered doing at 8.5 or 9.0, 7.5 is still alright and I might have a go e/w but not for a big sum. This is my bet though and I can't see any way they won't finish top 4, they have the best squad they have had in years and it was only the injuries that really sidelined their title bid last year, Sanchez is one of the best players in the world and gives them plenty more options - also means Giroud might get a rest at some point as well as he was knackered for most of the season last year. Rumours of getting Khedira persist which is a game changer in terms of a title bid, but I still have worries about their defending and losing Sagna won't help. I obviously put a lot on as tote have suspended the market now! Arsenal Top 4 - 1.61 - totesport - 30 Points

Re: Ante-Post > Premier League 2014/15 Winner Chelsea to concede least goals - 2.50 - Paddy Power Going back to Porto 2002/3, Mourinho's teams have won this 8 out of 11 times, all 3 failures were in the Spanish league. Managed Chelsea for 4 seasons, they've won this award every time he's been there manager.

Re: Ante-Post > Premier League 2014/15 Winner i don't see man utd winning the league yet. they will be lucky to finish fourth with phil jones, jonny evans and chris smalling in defense its an awful setup, without experienced vidic and possibly patrice evra also they look very short of quality at the back and will concede plenty. i think this year we could see arsenal having a really good momentum and building on their cup win from last year along with chelsea. they both signed some decent talent

Re: Ante-Post > Premier League 2014/15 Winner I think people are reading too much into utd finishing 7th. That was simply Down to moyes being a poor uninspiring manager. The year before they won it, and have added a world class manager, shaw and Herrera already, with the spending ongoing. That with no European football, gives utd a huge edge

Re: Ante-Post > Premier League 2014/15 Winner Liverpool to win league @ 13.5 Betfair Liverpool to score most goals @ 6.0 Paddypower Out of all the big clubs this is surely a stand out price? The way Liverpool attacked last season was mesmerising at times and with the additions of Lallana, Lambert and Markovic they've added a whole load of creativity and a proven goal scorer in Lambert. The two things Liverpool lacked imo last season was a top class holding midfielder and a couple of decent full backs bar Enriques injury. I have no doubt Rodgers will put this right in the transfer window though, Can looks a decent player from what I've seen but there lacking a Mascherano type ball winner still in the centre of the park. Also, I think Liverpool keeping hold of Borini could be a real plus, I was really impressed with him at Sunderland last season and he showed his ability, even with a team who struggled most of the season. Obviously losing Suarez is a big blow but people forget how good there other attacking players are. Sturridge, Sterling and Coutinho would get in most top sides imo and they can damage any defense they come up against. Was just wandering some other peoples thoughts on Liverpool here? surely the price is far too big even with a view to trading it in @ the business end of the season?

Liverpool to score most goals is surely +ev @ 6.0, Man City only outscored them by 1 goal in 2013/2014. I know Suarez has gone but Liverpool will still play incisive attacking football and score a huge amount of goals so I think this selection is good value. Liverpool to win the league @ 13.5 is harder to gauge. First of all I don't really understand why their price has drifted out so much, they were 10.5 a couple of weeks ago but the market knew Suarez was definately going anyway so really nothing has changed inbetween now and then apart from official confirmation of the deal. Clearly Liverpool are unfancied in the EPL this year but you've probably managed to get on them near to best price before season starts. They'll make a few more purchases before 2014/2015 kick off and I would have thought their price will come in a bit. Once the season starts it's just a question of paying attention and deciding when, if at all, to trade out. EPL title race is gonna be really interesting this year. I would also say that the premier league will the be the highest standard league competition in the world for 2014/2015, when you look at how good a side Everton are now under Martinez and the best they can realistically hope for is 6th, the mind boggles.

Re: Ante-Post > Premier League 2014/15 Winner I think Liverpool are in danger of doing a bit like Spurs did last summer, lost their best player for a mammoth figure then go about signing 5-6 expensive but average players to replace him. Remy and Lambert!? Hardly CL quality, both decent players no doubt but they won't win you matches. The pressure on Sterling and Coutinho will be even bigger as they will have to burden even more of the creative responsibility in Suarez's absence, unless Markovic or Lallana really hit the ground running which is unlikely. Aidy makes a fair point - and it is one I have made in previous years about Man City - it is a totally different animal when you are competing in both the CL and PL, it is partly about squad depth but it's more about experience. I was staggered Liverpool played so well for so long last season, it was an amazing achievement to come so close to winning the league but the main areas of concern still remain. The defence is ropey full-back positions are of particular concern Flanaghan and Johnson are average defenders, they don't have a decent holding midfielder and imo Suarez has yet to be replaced. I might well be wrong but I really don't fancy them at all next season, I have them competing for fourth at best, Chelsea and Arsenal look very strong, Man City might be in for a disappointing season after last year imo. As for Man Utd, don't have a clue as yet but with the money they are going to spend, and no european football, you would have to fancy them to get back into the CL..

Re: Ante-Post > Premier League 2014/15 Winner 4pts Chelsea to win Premier League 2/1 Betfred Chelsea should have won the league last year. If they had a striker of any note they would have breezed the league. As it was strange late season defeats to Crystal Palace and Sunderland among others meant that they had to settle for the minor honours but Jose Mourinho has gone out and strengthened and they look the side to beat. I’m not convinced Diego Costa is worthy of a £32m price tag but he’s a lot better than Chelsea had and Cesc Fabregas should both score and provide goals. Felipe Luis should strengthen an already solid defence and with Thibaut Courtois around this year Chelsea have a real top keeper in goal. It is hard to see a weakness in Chelsea and so I expect them to be crowned champions in May. Re: Ante-Post > Premier League 2014/15 Winner 2pts Stoke to win Premier League w/o big 7 5/1 Boylesports Mark Hughes has made some signings which have caught the eye in the summer, none more so that the Barcelona starlet Bojan Krkic but the likes of Steve Sidwell and Phil Bardsley should be good signings for the Potters too. With the Britannia Stadium a real fortress it won’t take a huge amount for Stoke to improve and make their way into the top eight in the table. Stoke have been defensively sound for a while so with more goal threats in attacking areas they can be the best of the rest this season. Re: Ante-Post > Premier League 2014/15 Winner

Luiz is off to PSG for around £48 million' date= a bonkers price for a defender that can't defend.
He can score tho. I think this is between Southampton and West Ham now on the handicap betting . Who would have thought Southampton would do so well. Not me - I went for Arsenal and Man Utd
