Moore is looking to the skies and rain ahead of Chris Pea Green's bid to win the Ladbroke Hurdle at Ascot on Saturday. The four-year-old, who was seventh to Our Conor in last season's Triumph Hurdle, has not got his head in front so far this term but has run well in defeat on both his starts. Second to Pine Creek over this course and distance on his reappearance in early November, he was third to Ifbutandwhynot in the Gerry Feilden Hurdle at Newbury nearly four weeks later."He's in good order and any more rain would be helpful," said Moore. "He's not very well-handicapped, but he's a nice horse and in fine shape." The Ladbroke is one of the most competitive handicap hurdles of the season and a field of 21 will go to post. Paul Nicholls has withdrawn Greatwood runner-up Sametegal and will be represented by top weight Ptit Zig and Irish Saint. Ptit Zig owes his position at the top of the handicap to a Grade 1 victory in France last month but Nicholls has warned punters not to overlook Irish Saint. He was regarded as one of the better novices in the yard last season and could be good each-way value. Dell Arca has been raised 8lbs for his victory in the Greatwood Hurdle and will be ridden by Tom Scudamore. That was his first race in this country and he certainly looks the pick of David Pipe’s six-strong entry. Swing Bowler may be the best of the others if she can be produced in the same kind of form that saw her finish third in the Betfair Hurdle behind My Tent Or Yours. Riding plans are yet to be finalised for his other runners. Gordon Elliott won this valuable prize last season with Cause Of Causes and is optimistic of a bold showing from Flaxen Flare. The gelding won the Fred Winter Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March and shaped well when fourth in the Greatwood. He now enjoys a healthy pull in the weights with the winner and will be ridden by Richard Johnson. The only other Irish challenger is City Slicker, the mount of Tony McCoy. The JP McManus owned gelding is seeking a hat-trick but this represents a steep rise in class. Nicky Henderson is doubly represented with Rolling Star and Chatterbox. Barry Geraghty has elected to ride Haydock winner Rolling Star with David Bass aboard Chatterbox. The best backed horse in the ante-post market is Brian Ellison’s Totalize who has contracted from 25-1 to as short as 8-1 in places. The son of Authorized has been kept fit on the level through the summer including a victory at Pontefract.

Re: key race - The ladbroke hurdle - 21st /12/2013 Ground now soft with rain expected from late on Friday through to race time. With that in mind Totalize has to be given strong consideration and must go well under a featherweight. Chatterbox also merits a mention having scored a victory over the class act My Tent or Yours on heavy going last year.

Re: key race - The ladbroke hurdle - 21st /12/2013 Chatterbox (8/1) and Swing Bowler (16/1) for me. I really rate Chatterbox and he looked as though he just needed it at Newbury (he had an interrupted run to the race through injury) and with that run in the bank he could be a real force. Like Mighty White says, he beat MTOY on similar ground but he also beat a good bunch on his next run at the same track with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th all showing form which would give him a big chance off tomorrow's mark. His form behind TNO shouldnt be discounted either and I just get the feeling he is a classy horse who will excel under tomorrows conditions. I am a little put off by the fact that Barry is on board Rolling Stone though. Swing Bowler is another to have form with MTOY on this type of ground at Newbury and that race also worked out nicely. The form of her run before that Musselburgh would also give the mare a shout of this mark as it looks pretty solid with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th all doing OK since. The selection didnt get the easiest of passages that day either but she was well on top at the finish and had plenty more to give. She flopped at Cheltenham but that mares race is generally a bit of a farce so with her stable flying and considering she has run really well fresh, she could be on a very interesting mark. Plenty others have chances, but it seems Willows Saviour is getting backed already (16's went quickly and only 12's available now) and given the progress he has made under Skelton already this season you certainly couldnt rule out there being a lot more to come.

Re: key race - The ladbroke hurdle - 21st /12/2013 I don't think i'll be having a bet in this but my eye is drawn to Recession Proof. He was 5th in Supreme Novice hurdle a couple of years back and Al Ferof, Sprinter Sacre and Cue Card were 3 of the horses that beat him! He's obviously had his problems but he wasn't disgraced on his hurdling re-appearance last time and he should come on for that run. Back down to what is probably a more suitable trip and off a light weight i could see him outrunning odds of 22/1. Brendan Powell is booked to ride and headgear is applied for the first time.

Re: key race - The ladbroke hurdle - 21st /12/2013 Very competitive race and not one i'll be risking any cash on, for what its worth my two against the field are Dell'Arca and Chris Pea Green as they both will go in the ground and are in the form of their lives at present. Dell'Arca won at Cheltenham from Semategal and it shouldn't be underestimated what a terrific performance that was on his first run in Britain, i know he has been heavily penalised by the handicapper but he will love conditions and looks a tough sort who will relish this test. Chris Pea Green goes for the Moore team who always tend to do well in the Saturday handicaps, his two runs this season have been very promising and another horse who will be staying on at the finish when most will be back pedalling. Dell'Arca 1pt EW 10/1 Ladbrokes Chris Pea Green 1pt EW 14/1 bet365

Re: key race - The ladbroke hurdle - 21st /12/2013 3.35 Ascot: Flaxen Flare, 14/1 Paddy Power, e/w (1/4, 12345) Flaxen Flare finished fourth in the Greatwood Hurdle lto off today's mark. He finished 6¼L behind Dell'Arca but is eight pounds better off at the weights today and has every chance of reversing that form. The ground will suit and the trip is ideal. Trainer Gordon Elliot won this race last year and he has a 29% SR in the UK this season. Richard Johnson is a big plus in the saddle.
