Blazing Bailey
Re: key race - stewart family gold cup - 2:25 cheltenham saturday 14/12/2013 I have gone for Double Ross (10/1) in the end. I think he is well handicapped and capable of winning a good pot this season albeit I wouldnt be totally confident that this race would set up to suit him given the other pace setters in the race (namely Easter Meteor and Sew On Target). Double Ross has run in some decent little races this season, better than the bare form when firing off in front at Ascot before getting run down into a remote 2nd, before that he was a decent 3rd in a decent little race at Chepstow and beating Attaglance by just under 2l off level weights on chase debut (that rival now rated 4lb higher when placed in Paddy Power Gold Cup when he was only 6l behind Johns Spirit). I expect STD to just sit off the pace and let the other two pace setters go at it before throwing down a challenge after turning in and hopefully he will be able to take this step up in class. He also has form around Cheltenham from his hurdling days.
Smarty72
Re: key race - stewart family gold cup - 2:25 cheltenham saturday 14/12/2013 14.25 Cheltenham - Gauvain - EW @ 33\1 PP BOG Back down to lowest handicap mark over fences since December 2010 and probably has a better chance than his odds suggest as outsider of the field. Has won over fences 3 times at shorter distances here at Cheltenham and should be able to perform with credit over the 2m 5f of Saturdays big handicap. Has run 4 times this season over hurdles and while disappointing has always been a better chaser. Been running over 3m plus in last 2 races over hurdles and while does not stay that sort of distance should have improved fitness for a crack at this race. Very capable horse just very inconsistent and question marks about whether he still retains his jumping ability. If he does could provide a shock! Aidymac
Re: key race - stewart family gold cup - 2:25 cheltenham saturday 14/12/2013 Cheltenham 2:25 - Stewart Family Thank You Gold Cup (Handicap Chase) (Grade 3) Finally, I have put an each-way bet on Gauvain as I simply think the price is a good bit too big not to back given the stables current form. Philip Hobbs had 7 runners at Cheltenham today and the form reads 4-1-6-4-2-3-2 so it is obvious his horses are running well. The horse is inconsistent but if he can improve just a tad on his recent form he should have a place squeak off a good mark.
