ashj22
hi i have decided to start a poker diary. first i will start by introducing myself i am Ashley Jenkin age 24 and i live in cornwall i first got into poker by playing small home games and watching it on tv from about 5 years back then i seen an advertisement one day on tv about online poker so i decided to try it out i started at pkr where for the first 500 games i was a break even player now im 2400 games in with an avg stake of $4 and im up $4,000 in profit with an 88% roi which i think is pretty good. something a bit different to my normal. what i plan on doing is grinding up a bankroll on stars at the $4.50 180 man sng's (non turbos) so as these are non turbos im thinking 100 buy ins is more than enough, just a few questions if anyone wouldnt mind giving feedback on. 1.what downswing can i expect at the $4.50 180 man sngs (non turbos) 2.how many buy ins do u think i will need 3.what roi do you think is attainable over the long run ok thanks so im not going to go crazy on the volume to start off with. i will be posting hands and hoping to discuss strategy...............gl at the tables. glceud
Re: Diary on the $4.50 180 man sngs All the best with this. 100 buy ins should be enough according to most so I would think a 50-60 buyin or so down swing is possible? 88% roi is exceptional, I am interested to know if that was on PKR, if so I am pretty sure it will be less on Stars. Low volume on Stars is one thing mind you so 88% might be possible there. Problem is to make much at $4.50 buy ins even with a 88% roi is you need high volume. High volume- roi must drop, even for the best. I think a lot of people fail by thinking volume is the most important thing. I am begining to think increasing stakes as you win is a far better approach but that requires strict bankroll management which is a problem for degenerate gamblers like me and quite a few other poker players. south_eastern_ram
Re: Diary on the $4.50 180 man sngs I used to grind these for a while before moving onto MTT's, by late afternoon they're usually filling up pretty quick, in the evening they're starting up very quickly. They pay places 18-27 now dont they? You find quite a few regs playing these, the later stages can be quite tough which is where I struggled. I cashed a lot but didnt top 3 enough. Think my ROI was about 10% over quite a small sample. GL
glceud
Re: Diary on the $4.50 180 man sngs Yes 2400 is enough to put faith in the roi in my eyes (others will disagree)but I was assuming that the idea was to win $4000 far quicker. 2400 in a year is one thing much more is another matter unless you have 40 spare hours a week. I never play on Stars, the players are better there end off. The problem is you should still have the $4000 as your bank roll and either be playing $40 games by now or have hit a wall, which is what always happens to me when I try managing my bankroll. I know my limitations as a poker player after countless attempts to move up levels. I'm just jealous cos your 24 and if online poker had been around when I was 24 I'd be writing this on a yacht in the caribbean.:p

glceud
Re: Diary on the $4.50 180 man sngs Your not going to blind down, your going to shove the first unopened pot, massive difference. Your play you have no fold equity and a fair chance of being a mile behind thats why I don't like it.

Woodie
Re: Diary on the $4.50 180 man sngs I used to grind these all the time, I think I have played 3/4k of them lifetime and have some nice profit in them, theres a guide wrtitten by shaundeeb around on 2+2 I remember reading years back it's def worth checking out. I think best time is 4pm to 9pm just keep registering and you can easily have 20 tables up and running within 2 hours. They used to be soft I don't think 100 buyins is a must in these games I think 20-30 is fine if your a good player..
ashj22
Re: Diary on the $4.50 180 man sngs did u just grind the non turbo $4.50 180 man sngs? if so what roi did u attain over 3/4k games. lol im not ready to 20 table yet. and agree i personally think 50 buy ins is fine for these particular sngs as there not turbos. thanks for the advice appreciate it. ashj22
Re: Diary on the $4.50 180 man sngs @glceud yes 2400 imo is an ok sample but thats for mtts on pkr and the 4k profit i grinded up a did over a couple of years as i dont play tons of volume just kept plugging away and trying to always improve. no the idea isnt to make 4k quicker........although i wouldnt say no! the idea is to build up a roll on stars then either move up stakes or switch to mtts, not sure yet.yes agree there are some really good players on stars but it does also depend on what your playing.
