Re: Ligue 1 > September 14-16 Ligue 1 is fairly scattered across the weekend, with two matches on Friday and three on Sunday. Hopefully there will be some nice bets to be had. PSG are on vendredi duty and they face Toulouse in what could be a very good match. I think the line on PSG is too short at present, but it'd take a brave man to bet against them after their win at Lille. I do have Toulouse +1AH shortlisted, but whether I have the balls to play them is a different matter. The other Friday match sees Reims host Montpellier. I think this could be a really good match; two attacking sides who will have a real go. The O2.25 line is massive at above even money and that will almost certainly be my bet, although I also think Reims are backable on the 0AH line too. I fully expect Lille to beat Troyes away from home but there's no value in the price. ESTAC have gone over in many of their matches this season and Lille like a goal too, so the overs appeal there too and are on the radar. Nothing, however, is proving a bet in the Evian v Bastia match. ETFC have a new coach and are best left alone for the time being. I wouldn't say that about Nice though. They could quite easily get their first win of the season against Brest at home and I make them a bet, although the price may erode come Saturday. I need them to stay around the evens mark. Overs may also float my boat but I'm more likely to play the hosts. I was hoping Saint-Etienne might be a tad lower on the -1AH line but it's not to be, although free-scoring ASSE could cover the overs on their own, and therefore the O2.5 line is in range. Bordeaux have started the season well and they are a bet at Valenciennes. Even though they are shortlisted, there's no way they'll win every game and I'll have to mull them over. The same applies for the Lorient +0.5AH at Rennes. It's a bet, but not one I'm comfortable with. I'd be more likely to play the overs in the Breton derby. I'm finding Lyon a bit too short on the handicap against Ajaccio, although the overs line is again a possibiliy, but I do think Marseille could be a juicy bet away at Nancy with a half draw cover on the -0.25 line. Nancy have been poor so far and OM are improving and top the league. They are a "green" bet at the moment and only a diminishing price will stop me there. So, my early predos. Like to think we'll have some bets out of these: PSG 2-1 Toulouse (Toulouse +1AH shortlisted) Reims 3-2 Montpellier (Over 2.25 goals very likely to be hit, Reims 0AH shortlisted) Troyes 1-2 Lille (Over 2.25 goals shortlisted) Evian 1-1 Bastia (No bet at present) Nice 2-0 Brest (Nice -0.5AH very likely to be hit) Saint-Etienne 3-0 Sochaux (Over 2.5 goals shortlisted) Valenciennes 1-1 Bordeaux (Bordeaux 0AH shortlisted) Rennes 2-1 Lorient (Over 2.5 goals shortlisted) Lyon 3-1 Ajaccio (Over 2.75 goals shortlisted) Nancy 0-2 Marseille (Marseille -0.25AH very likely to be hit)

Re: Ligue 1 > September 14-16 Involved in one match tonight: REIMS v MONTPELLIER - Over 2 goals AH @ 1.83 with 188bet This match is complicated somewhat by MHSC's involvement in the Champions League on Tuesday. I have little doubt that some of their focus will be on their match with Arsenal, which will be a massive occasion for the club. That, therefore, makes them vulnerable against Reims, a team who I feel will be a threat at home this season. Reims were promoted on the back of really good form at the Auguste Delaune last season. They are very attack-minded, their public demands nothing else. In Nicolas Fauvergue, they have a man capable of leading the line and scoring goals, while new signing Diego from Tours is very capable of unlocking defences. Montpellier are set to rest Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, which is a boost for the overs because Damien Congre and Hilton are a new partnership. There will be teething problems. I can see Reims scoring but I can also see Montpellier unlocking the door too. Reims' defence is leaky. Anthony Weber and Mickael Tacalfred are a Ligue 2 central defence. It is no coincidence that Kossi Agassa, Reims' goalkeeper, has had to make the most saves in this league so far. With Anthony Mounier, John Utaka, Younes Belhanda and Emmanuel Herrera on the pitch, they will get chances and probably take them. Under the lights, with two attack-orientated sides, I think this has massive potential to go over, and to get over 2 goals AH at the price quoted offers value to me. :hope

Re: Ligue 1 > September 14-16 Some thoughts of mine about today's games. Troyes - Lille I think this match could be very exciting, open and contain a few goals. Troyes are the underdogs here but will try and play decent football and should be positive, its their natural way. Lille are also a naturally positive side and usually create quite a lot of chances. They will be pleased to be up against opponents who might leave themselves more open. Whether or not Lille can win this match remains to be seen. Its possible they could have half an eye upon their midweek CL game and rotate a few players. I would say an away win is more likely but Troyes cant be ruled out and have looked dangerous going forward this season. Its never usually a very good decision to back overs in France but this is a rare exception where I think the line is wrong and there is some value to take over 2.25. St Etienne - Sochaux At the moment I would say Sochaux are the worst side in Ligue 1. Some of the players admitted themselves that they have a ‘ligue 2 standard squad’ They’ve lost every match so far and shown very few encouraging signs. There have been issues with injuries on the field and problems off the field too having to manage guys like Boudebouz who wanted to transfer away. Their coach Eric Hely is under serious pressure and a defeat here, especially a heavy one would probably see him get sacked. Sochaux’s biggest problem is in defence where they lack any sort of organisation or solidity. St Etienne have some excellent attacking weapons such as Aubameyang, Hamouma and Gradel who should be able to take advantage. They easily beat Brest 4-0 a few weeks ago and became the first side to beat Bastia in Corsica for over 2 years just before the international break. I think the home side will win comfortably and they are worth taking with high stakes on a -1 handicap. Nice - Brest Nice haven’t won a game yet this season but they have been knocking on the door and it will come soon. This is an excellent chance for them to get 3 points and they will be extra motivated to succeed. Brest haven’t played well this season and have been lucky to pick up 6 points. Both wins were at home and thanks to late goals which really masked their deficiencies. On the road, their performances have been pretty woeful and they were thrashed 4-0 by St Etienne 3 weeks ago. They have balance issues in all areas of the pitch, especially the left side of defence and right of midfield. Generally their attacking threat is poor too and they lack goals desperately. It might be that one goal will be enough for Nice to win here because I’m confident they can keep a clean sheet. Nice and their new coach know that its vital they pick up 3 points here and this should be a good opportunity. They are worth backing on the straight win or -0.5 line. Evian - Bastia Evian - Bastia is a difficult game which could go either way. Evian have not looked good to me this season and I’d say they are a big relegation candidate. Perhaps they could have ‘new manager syndrome’ today though which would be in their favour following the sacking of Pablo Correa after their last match. Bastia have fallen a bit flat recently after a good start. They lost to Rennes and St Etienne and also a friendly last week to Ligue 2 side Arles. But it must be remembered their last couple of ligue opponents are both good sides and this will be different. Evian are one of the poorer teams and Bastia have potential. If I had to stick my neck out I’d say a draw or that the visitors wont lose, but overall this is a no bet match. Valenciennes - Bordeaux Arguably the toughest match of the day to predict because both have been in good form. Bordeaux especially have impressed me this season and they seem to have a really good rhythm at the moment. I didn’t expect Valenciennes to start the season so well but they’ve impressed as well. They are also a very dangerous home side and play their best football in front of their own fans. They can never be underestimated here although Bordeaux did win 2-1 last season in this fixture. This is a hard match to predict and it could go either way. A draw is perhaps the most likely outcome and this is a game best swerved.

Sadly, no bets for me tonight in Ligue 1. I really wanted to back Nice but the even-money odds that I'm looking for with my bookies just aren't there. I fancy them to win but one has to remember that they lost to Ajaccio at home this season already and are without a proven goalscorer, so I'll have to pass there. A little unsure of the overs at Troyes, as Salomon Kalou is suspended, while there's no value in Saint-Etienne -1AH, nor the overs. I'd expect that to come in but not biting at the current prices. I have to keep disciplined and stick to my pricing structure, and right now the bets just aren't there. Finally, nice to see meatman back posting. These French threads have been quiet of late, so the more contributors, the better :ok Bonne chance if you're playing today.

Re: Ligue 1 > September 14-16 NICE - BREST Nice very confident spent the last matches. Draws were obtained with a very strong opponents. Team frankly unlucky. Nice lot stronger than poor in attack Brest. Brest did not deserve both victorys, winning goals were scored in the last seconds - just luck. Brest owned 38% possession of the ball in two away games and only ONE (!!!) time to hit on target!!! Nice score and win to nil. 1-0 or 2-0 Nice win @ 2.05 (marathonbet) Nice Win and Under 2.5 Goals @ 3.10 (willhill)

I think it will be good to bei on goals here. I see 1-1 here as minimum. H2H: 27.08.11 Valenciennes - Bordeaux 1:2 19.03.11 Valenciennes - Bordeaux 2:2 28.04.10 Valenciennes - Bordeaux 2:0 13.05.09 Valenciennes - Bordeaux 1:2 22.03.08 Valenciennes - Bordeaux 3:1 Teams To Score - Both Teams @ 2.05

Apologies for the late posting of this bet, been a busy day: NANCY v MARSEILLE - Marseille -0.25AH @ 1.89 with 188bet I have to fancy the visitors in this match. Under the tutelage of new manager Elie Baup, it seems OM have screwed the nut. Four wins out of four in the league this season, which includes successes at Reims and Montpellier, emphasises what good form they are in. It's a little bewildering considering that Stephane Mbia, Alou Diarra and Cesar Azpilicueta left during the summer window, and that Loic Remy has just returned from injury. I think the debacle of last season has woken up a number of the Marseille players. They now realise the stature of the club they are that. Baup is getting the best out of Andre-Pierre Gignac in attack - he's been their main marksman - while the Ayew brothers and Mathieu Valbuena are ensuring a constant supply of chances. Charles Kabore has now made the midfield role his own and overall, there seems a much more solid feel about the team. I can't say that about Nancy. I've really not been impressed by them so far this season. Yohann Mollo is their only real dangerman and he's just back from injury. It's their defence that worries me most though. I can see the Ayews exposing Joel Sami and and Sebastian Puygrennier's lack of pace, and I suspect Gignac's movement will be problematic. Marseille are flying at the moment, while Nancy are a very negative, stuffy side under Jean Fernandez. I can see OM making it five out of five and thus, the -0.25AH line holds value, especially with half draw cover. :hope
