Re: Champions League Qualifiers - 28-29 August I still think Braga have just as good a chance of qualifying for this match as Udinese do, so a bit surprised to see such a difference in odds between the two. Udinese played well in the first leg, but with that away goal there is a good chance that Guidolin's team may just sit back and try and hold on to that advantage. Its a dangerous game, and whilst they looked a solid enough team in that first leg, I still have doubts about the central midfield. Pinzi is doubtful at the moment and didn't train today, which leaves it looking likely that two or maybe three of the new summer signings will all start. That central mid position is probably the most important in the Udinese team, in terms of breaking up play and having an understanding about who commits themselves forward at anyone time. Whilst the new guys will develop i'm sure, its a tough ask for them to come in play at the standard of Asamoah & Pinzi etc immediatly. If they make mistakes, and leave space even just a few times this skillful Braga team could take advantage. The Braga +0.5 at around 1.83 is something to consider I feel.

Re: Champions League Qualifiers - 28-29 August Celtic v Helsingborg Wednesday 29th August 19.45 Celtic won the first leg in Sweden 2-0, but Helsingborg had a lot more shots on target - 9 to 4. http://uk.soccerway.com/matches/2012/08/21/europe/uefa-champions-league/helsingborgs-idrottsforening/celtic-fc/1370840/ Helsingborg's odds seem too long at 7.5. Ultimately, I think Celtic would be happy with a draw here as that would see them through. Perhaps there is value backing Helsingborg on the handicap?

Re: Champions League Qualifiers - 28-29 August AEL Limmasol +1(AH) @ 2.16 (Pinnacle) 3/10 Once more I am going to back the Cypriot side here. I've been away for the last three weeks and only did a few bets in that time, unfortunately I missed the first leg of this game where AEL were amazing value at around 4.0 or higher. I am a fan of Cypriot football despite not knowing much about it! The bookies seem to price the sides as being poorer than they are; they have improved lately and this is reflected in the uefa coefficient table, where the Cypriot league is only two places behind the Belgian league. Anderlecht are experienced campaigners in Europe and a look at their past results does show some very good results; however in the last couple of years they have fallen short against the bigger sides, being knocked out by Partizan, Ajax and AZ respectively. They impressed me in the group stages last year, winning every game and scoring a lot. As far as I can tell their attack is much better than their defence, whilst for AEL it is the other way around. AEL will no doubt look to defend in numbers in this game, and try and nick a goal on the counter attack. Whilst Anderlecht have the bigger financial clout, I wouldn't like to separate these two teams. I would certainly want more than evens to back Anderlecht, particularly as AEL have the advantage and don't need to win the game. Anderlecht look too short for me so I'm happy to back AEL once more on the AH.

Re: Champions League Qualifiers - 28-29 August Cluj-Basel should be an overish game as Basel needs to score at least 2 goals to have any chance of qualifying for the group stages at all. They wasted a lot of chances at their home tie against Cluj while Cluj was lucky to have used their few chances to score. With the fact that Basel has to attack, I see Cluj scoring as well here so over 2.5 and both to score seem nice to me.

Re: Champions League Qualifiers - 28-29 August First, my thoughts on tonight's games. 1. Anderlecht - AEL Anderlecht Clean Sheet @ 1.9 (bet365) I expect AEL to be very solid defensively (no surprise) and not to commit much to attacking. I think that the Belgians will have difficulties breaking them down and I don't see them scoring an early goal. The longer the score is 0:0, the less frequently AEL will cross the midfield. If the Belgians manage to take the lead, I don't expect them to push a lot for a second goal - they know AEL ain't Ekranas, the Cypriots are dangerous, and this is the final step before CL - so they will be careful and more than happy with a goal lead. 2. Maribor - Dinamo BTTS @ 1.80 Unlike the Anderlecht-AEL game, which finished with the same result, I expect here a much more open game from both sides. Both Dinamo and Maribor have been very prolific in their leagues. The Zagreb teams scores a lot, but they rarely manage to escape with a clean sheet. I don't fancy them to get one tonight either, especially given the good attacking strength of Maribor. However, Dinamo are the favorite to qualify for the second leg for me, so if they concede a goal, this definitely means they must score at least once. And I think they are more than capable of doing this with ease. 3. Pao - Malaga Malaga DNB 2.0 Surprised to see such a big price for the definitely better team among the two. Indeed, they don't need to win to qualify. However, Pao needs to score at least 2 goals to have any chance, which means that the Greeks must attack and must take a risk. I think that more classy Spanish side will be very comfortable in such circumstances when they can exploit empty space in Pao's defense. I am confident Malaga won't lose and I see quite a good probability of them winning in Athens. The other games of tonight are certainly no-bet for me and they offer no value in my opinion.

Re: Champions League Qualifiers - 28-29 August I have decided to back Braga here as despite the result Braga did control the game in the first leg. In the first half they probed but struggled to create chances but in the second half they were much better in doing this, got the goal and perhaps should have got more. To control the play and create as many chances as they did against Udinese is pretty impressive, as they are one of the most organised teams in Serie A, with a combative midfield, and a great backline, and this bodes well for the return leg. I can’t see Udinese’s tactics being that different than they were in Braga, they played for the draw there and with that away goal will probably play for the (0-0) draw here. With the lack of offensive options they have its unlikely they’ll be that attacking anyway. If Pinzi regains his fitness (he’s been included in the squad) then we are likely to see the same team as the first leg, with Fabbrini supporting Di Natalie as well. If they do play and line up like this then the first leg showed us that Braga are capable of causing them problems and in all honesty I expect them to have most of the ball again (was 60% in the first leg) and create chances. If they do score then this is when Udinese will have to react but you can argue that a more open Udinese side will allow Braga even more chances if they have to lose the defensive discipline. Another concern I would have for Udinese is the match fitness of the players, the performance tailed off in both the first leg and against Fiorentina at the weekend and on both occasions this allowed the opposition to get back into the game. It’s going to be another warm evening in Udine tomorrow and there is potential for this to happen again. Many of the first 11 have only played one competitive match this season (the first leg of this one) compared to Braga who have a couple more matches to get back up to fitness. Braga to win or draw 1.80 at Skybet (3.5 /10 units)

With the fact that Basel has to attack' date=' I see Cluj scoring as well here so over 2.5 and both to score seem nice to me.[/quote'] I agree with over 2.5 here, but you said that Basel "wasted a lot of chances". I saw the entire game and Basel played good only in the first half. When CFR Cluj scored the first goal, Basel gone all out attack and was damaged on counter-attacks. The Romanian team could score 2-3 more goals in the end of the game, striking on counter attacks. Tomorrow will be the same, Basel will have to score, but CFR Cluj will score. The bet is ok, but I wanted to reformulate cause from your text sounded like Basel had dominated the game, which is not true. Another thing to know is that Cluj sacrificed an important league game with Rapid, resting a lot of players express for this second leg. My predictions for this one are: CFR Cluj to qualify @ 1.25 CFR Cluj or draw @ 1.45 Both teams to score @ 1.56 Over 2.5 @ 1.67

Re: Champions League Qualifiers - 28-29 August [h=1]Ironi Kiryat Shmona -v- BATE Borisov[/h]My feelings for this game are fairly straight forward for this game. BATE have a two goal lead going into this game, and will suffocate the game in the second leg. They are a very good organised team and showed last year in the Champions League that they were hard to break down. I believe BATE are the fitter team having a full season in their belts, and will be fully used to the heat too. BATE will be dangerous on the counter attack, but I think their first priority will be to keep this game as tight as possible, and try and draw the game. Therefore I believe under 2.5 goals @ 1.71 odds (currently available at Betfair) is a great bet. 2/10 stakes Good luck all.

I saw some highlights of this match and Basel were hitting the bar I believe and had other good chances. Sure, Cluj had also some chances and should have some in the second tie.

Re: Champions League Qualifiers - 28-29 August 3pts Panathinaikos to beat Malaga 17/10 BetVictor Panathinaikos clearly need to attack in this match but I don’t think Malaga are that good that the Greek side need to be reckless about their attacks. Playing away in Greece is always a hard thing to do anyway and the pressure and hostile atmosphere in the terraces make it intimidating enough anyway. With that hostility behind them and a side capable of scoring goals I think they can win this second leg if not the tie itself. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/panathinaikos-vs-malaga-betting-panathinaikos-can-give-malaga-a-scare-by-winning-the-second-leg-of-the-tie 4pts Braga (+0.25AH) to beat Udinese 1.92 Bet365 This is one of those matches where you would rather be in Braga’s position of knowing what you need to do than having those nagging feelings in your mind that you are through if you don’t concede. Those feelings only tend to invite pressure so I expect Braga to play with a little bit of freedom, controlled freedom, and despite being away from home having the better of this match. With Udinese caught between sticking and twisting they may end up blowing it completely or not even going for goals. That makes me think there’s some value in the price on the visitors on the Asian handicap. With the fact that Basel has to attack' date=' I see Cluj scoring as well here so over 2.5 and both to score seem nice to me.[/quote'] Be careful with this one. I know it looks very overish at first sight, but have in mind that it is the return leg of the final qualification round of CL. I am pretty sure that Cluj will not focus on attacks but rather on disrupting Basel's attacking. They know the Swiss need whole 2 goals, so there is no point for the Romanians to try hard forward. And Cluj are really good when they have to defend. I myself won't go for overs in a game when one of the two teams does not really need to score and the exactly same team is the host and is known for good defense. Especially at the current price for overs.

A fully deserved qualification for Braga, who were so much better over the two legs. 1-1 after 90 mins means bet won and +2.8 units profit. :ok

Re: Champions League Qualifiers - 28-29 August A brief recapitulation: Maribor - Dinamo 0:1 BTTS Not a bad pick, Maribor had decent chances and a goal was incorrectly disallowed. Anderlecht - AEL 2:0 Anderlecht Clean Sheet Did not watch the game and don't know if AEL had good chances. But I guessed very correctly that Anderlecht will have difficulties breaking them down and will not manage to score early, which logically took me to reasoning that AEL might not need to attack for most of the game. Pao - Malaga 0:0 Malaga DNB (Void) I have no idea how the game went, but I was positive that the Spaniards won't lose, and given the good price I think it was worth trying for the DNB. My picks for tomorrow are: 1. Fenerbahche - Spartak Moscow Over 2.5 @ 1.80 I was considering taking a straight Fenerbahche win, but hesitated because their league has just started while Spartak have been under way for a long time. I do see many goals here, first because the score in Moscow suggest open game - the Turks need goals and Spartak Moscow are aware that it is very unlikely that they manage to maintain a clean sheet for 90 minutes in Istanbul, so they will have to score at least once. Both teams are very over-ish. Basically all 7 games of Spartak this season have been over (remarkable!). They do fancy scoring goals, but they are also very promiscuous defensively - they managed just one clean sheet and they were trashed by Zenit by 5:0 just few weeks ago. Fenerbahce are also very prone to overs. They have considerable firepower up-front but they also concede a lot. 2. Dinamo Kyiv - Monchengladbach Over 2.5 @ 2.00 At first sight it does not sound very logical as both teams are under-ish. However, following a 3:1 home defeat, Borussia have no other choice but to take substantial risks. While Dinamo is not particularly high-scoring at home, they usually struggle with teams who park the bus in the Ukrainian league. Borussia certainly won't do that and the Germans will leave themselves exposed for Dinamo's quick attacks. I think Dinamo will score at least two goals here, maybe more. Borussia also knows how to find the net, so I smell that they won't let their hosts with a clean sheet. 3. Lille - Copenhagen Under 2.5 @ 1.90 A classical case of a second-leg tie, where the first one finished with a small but very convenient 1:0 home victory. Copenhagen will stay back, knowing that their hosts will need to score twice to kick them out before extra time. Lille on the other hand will not go "va bank" from the beginning as they are aware that just one goal will make the tie equal. When you add to this the fact that both teams are under-ish, especially Lille at home, it looks like a good bet.

Re: Champions League Qualifiers - 28-29 August 4pts Celtic vs Helsingborgs - Over 2.5 goals 11/10 Ladbrokes I see no point in Helsingborgs just coming into this second leg and going through the motions. They have to attack especially as they know this Celtic defence is far from watertight. However that will probably only leave themselves a bit too open at the back which I expect Celtic to be able to exploit. I wouldn’t be surprised if Helsingborgs notched a goal along the way but I expect Celtic to go through to the group stages in a relatively high scoring second leg. Re: Champions League Qualifiers - 28-29 August Fenerbahce vs Spartak Moscow = 1 (2.25) stake 4/10 Preview: Fenerbahce: injured: Volkan Demirel (goalkeeper 0/0). Spartak Moscow: Injured: Welliton (striker 6/0), Pareja (defender 5/1), Kalmstrom (midfielder 0/0), Kirill Kombarov (midfielder 2/0), Sergey Parshivlyuk (defender 0/0). The first game ended with the score 2-1 in favor of Spartak Moscow. The home team is a great victory in the championship with a score of 3-0 against Gaziantepspor. If you want to continue the adventure Fenerbahce in the Champions League to win this game operation is not impossible because he meets a team within his reach. The visiting team had a start to the season with four wins and two defeats (Zenit Terek and outside the home) and given the small advantage on Fenerbahce coach will try to set up a game difensivistica trying to limit the damage. :hope

Re: Champions League Qualifiers - 28-29 August CFR Cluj vs Basilea = over (1.80) stake 6/10 Preview: CFR Cluj: Injured: Ronny (striker 5/2), Ciprian Deac (midfielder 3/0), Adam Vass (midfielder 5/0); suspended: Maftei (defender 5/2), Small (defender 3/0). Basilea: suspended: Valentin Stocker (midfielder 6/1); in doubt: Marco Streller (striker 6/4), Philipp Degen (defender 2/0), Gaston Sauro (defender 4/0). CFR Cluj won the first away game with the score 2-1, has started the season well with w2-d3-l1 goals scored 12 goals against 9 while Basilea in the league has a score of w3-d3-l1 goals scored 12 goals against 8. Basilea is no longer that of last season because he has sold the best pieces as Shaqiri, Xhaka Abraham and Huggle. After dominating the first leg at the level of the game have not been able to transform into the networks had numerous occasions during the match. By virtue of the defeat of the Basilea I think we will see a very open race and offensive by the Basilea as they must score at least two goals to hope to continue the adventure in the Champions League, leaving much space to counterattack the Cluj. Quote of the sign over down on many books. :hope

Celtic v hesingborgs over 2.5 goals @ 2 - WilliamHill. I think the overs offer a decent bit of value tonight. The odds are probably set the way they are because hesingborgs aren't expected to score, but I don't think they are out of this tie yet. Scoring first could put Celtic under a bit of pressure, and this Celtic team aren't the most defensively assured side I've seen. They don't provide much of a confidence boost when you think of them winning a clean sheet. Celtic also have five players returning tonight, whom will all be out looking to impress I'm sure. Celtic werent spectacular in the first leg, but they got the job done, and picked up two away goals. Here I think they will come up against another stern test, while still possessing players capable of scoring against opposition they probably feel they should be beating. At least the home crowd will expect a performance, and a winning one at that.

Yes I know, those stats and the report lead me to think they have a better chance of getting at least a goal. Where as, Celtic are being heavily favoured in the betting.

Re: Champions League Qualifiers - 28-29 August Celtic v Helsingborg Wednesday 19.45 I think there might be value backing early Helsingborg corners in this game. It's risky, but the odds are attractive. The first leg in Sweden ended 0-2 to Celtic, and the corner count was 5-3 to Helsingborg http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/season=2013/matches/round=2000346/match=2009469/postmatch/report/index.html#celtic+helsingborg Apparently, despite losing, Helsingborg did a lot of the attacking in the first leg. Tonight, they have to score at least 2 goals, so it looks likely that they will attack early on, and there is a good chance they will get early corners. Celtic are strong at home and may well do some attacking of their own, winning corners, but I think there is a fair chance that Helsingborg will get more early corners. These markets seem attractive: Race to 3 Corners Helsingborg 3.6 Paddy Power Most First Half Corners Helsingborg 4.33 Paddy Power (Both these are three-way markets, and are risky bets, but I think they are good value at these odds)

Re: Champions League Qualifiers - 28-29 August

In the first leg' date=' Helsingborg had nine shots on target compared with Celtic's four

Those stats don't really tell the full story, a lot of those Helsingborg efforts were tame, and Forster made 3 good saves. Apart from the end of the 1st half, Celtic the game. They hit the bar twice and it could have been a bigger lead.

That's exactly what I was going to say! I see punters discussing here match stats as a serious indicator of which was better, and I don't think this is very good idea. For instance, I watched Maribor - Dinamo Zagreb, and Maribor were trying shooting from every position and distance. If you look at the stats, I guess you will get the impression that Maribor totally outplayed them. In fact, most of the shots were totally ridiculous attempts and caused absolutely no threat. Dinamo rarely attacked and had little posssession, but most of their attacks were very dangerous, even if they did not finish with a shot. To sum it up - those stats rarely tell the true story.

Ideally, you would want stats, and several different reports of the game from different points of view (biased in favour of both teams, and neutral). I think Paul Ross uses stats for his performance ratings for English leagues for this site - http://www.punterslounge.com/football-ratings
