  1. Gibraltar -v- Ireland Gibraltar host the Republic of Ireland tonight in Faro, Portugal for another Group D qualifier. Undoubtedly Gibraltar are the whipping boys of Group D and their manager and players will be doing everything they can to live that reputation down. However, the reality is Ireland are going to win this game and they should be able to score a number of goals. Ireland have already beaten Gibraltar 7-0 in Dublin, one of three 7-0 defeats Gibraltar have suffered in this campaign. The two other heavy defeats came in the same stadium that Gibraltar host Ireland in tonight, both ag
  2. It's not a league game today, instead it's a League Cup semi-final game. I'm just posting it here anyway. Galway United -v- Dundalk, League Cup semi-final, kick-off at 5pm local time It's a Bank Holiday Monday in Ireland and that means the League Cup semi-finals are taking place. Galway United host Dundalk at Eamonn Deacy Park in the second of the League Cup semi-finals kicking off this afternoon. Galway United have done very well to make it to the semi-finals and Tommy Dunne's men will have no fear as they face Dundalk today. Having beaten First Division, Non-League and Premier Division op
  3. Bray -v- Derry City Bray Wanderers host Derry City this evening at the Carlisle Grounds in a game that sees 9th host 10th. It's a real lower league fixture, as both teams will be hoping to move further away from the relegation dogfight. Bray Wanderers have emerged once again from mysterious and ridiculous circumstances and appointed Mick Cooke as manager. He's the fourth official manager this season for Bray, although the sixth if you include David Cassidy and Dave Scully acting as temporary player-managers. It's a good solid appointment for Bray, as Mick Cooke is a very experienced manager
  4. Drogheda United host Dundalk in the Louth derby this evening at United Park. This game is being televised on Setanta Sports and should be a very interesting derby. Drogheda come into this game having taken 10 points in their last 4 league games. Johnny McDonnell and his backroom staff have really got the confidence flying in the dressing room and the performances and results are showing now. A fortunate and late 1-0 away victory over Bohemians will give the Drogs confidence coming into tonight's game, and they'll be eager to upset their rivals. Also, they'll believe they can put a dent in Dun
  5. Re: UEFA Euro 2016 Qualifiers > Friday November 14th I never said he's not a Premier League player, but he's a terrible passer of the ball (his biggest limitation as a midfielder!), and I doubt you'd deny that either. I did say he's a very hard working midfielder, and I do agree he's 'loyal' and an engine.
  6. Re: UEFA Euro 2016 Qualifiers > Friday November 14th Scotland -v- Ireland, Friday 14th November 7.45pm GMT Scotland will host Ireland at Celtic Park tomorrow night in the fourth EURO 2016 qualifier for both teams in group D. This is perhaps the most eagerly anticipated fixture in the group, given that neither Celtic nation have played each other in a competitive fixture since 1987. It'll be a tense affair between both teams on the night, not only because of the British Isles/Celtic rivalry, but also since both teams retain genuine belief they can qualify for EURO 2016 in the second auto
  7. Derry City -v- St. Patrick's Athletic, 3.30pm GMT kick-off at the Aviva Stadium The final game of the League of Ireland 2014 season takes place this afternoon, and it promises to be an exciting one. Derry City take on St. Patrick's Athletic in the FAI Cup final at the Aviva Stadium, in what will be the second time in three years that both teams have played each other on this stage. In 2012 a thrilling final saw Derry City lift the trophy with a win 3-2 AET. Rory Patterson's second goal of the game midway through extra time was enough to seal the victory for the Candystripes. Seven of St. Pat
  8. Re: Ireland > Airtricity League First Division > 2014 Finn Harps -v- Longford Town, today @ 3pm BST Finn Harps host champions Longford Town this afternoon in the final league game of the 2014 season. Last weekend both clubs had big matches and occasions. Longford Town confirmed their status as champions of the First Division, and with it promotion back to the Premier Division for the first time in seven years. Indeed all the hard work has been done now and Tony Cousins' players can relax and enjoy today's game. Finn Harps played against St. Patrick's Athletic in the FAI Cup semi-f
  9. Re: UEFA Euro 2016 Qualifiers > Saturday October 11th Ireland -v- Gibraltar, 5pm BST: First goal scorer? There's great value available on this bet. Robbie Keane has 62 international goals in 135 international games, and he'll be absolutely focused on scoring at least one goal tonight, to add to the impressive tally. He's the only genuine goal scorer in this Irish team, and I will be shocked if he does not start and captain the Irish team tonight. He has been playing quite well recently with LA Galaxy (scoring 5 goals in his last three games, two of which were first goals) and he has ha
  10. Re: UEFA Euro 2016 Qualifiers > Saturday October 11th Ireland -v- Gibraltar, 5pm BST Ireland host Gibraltar at the Aviva Stadium tonight in what will be a definite victory for the home team in both team's second Euro 2016 qualifier. It's a game which is expected to be an absolute goalfest, but I'm not so convinced. The main reason I believe it may not be a goalfest is that Ireland have never been a convincing goal-scoring team against the lowest ranked teams in Europe. Whether it was Andorra, San Marino, Faroe Islands, Malta or Liechtenstein, Ireland have struggled to win by a four go
  11. Re: Euro 2016 Qualifying > Sunday September 7th Hungary -v- Northern Ireland, 7th September 2014 @ 17.00 BST Hungary host Northern Ireland tomorrow evening in Budapest in the first game of the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign. Both teams come into the game with confidence that they can qualify, and break a barren spell in international football that has seen both countries fail to qualify for an international tournament since the 1986 World Cup. Hungary are arguably better prepared for such a campaign, considering they sit much higher in the FIFA rankings (34th) than Northern Ireland do,
  12. Re: International Friendlies 3rd Sept - 7th Sept 2014 Ireland -v- Oman, 3rd September 7.45pm BST kick-off Ireland host Paul LeGuen's Oman tonight in an international friendly being played at the Aviva Stadium. It's an opportunity for both sides to prepare for their respective looming qualification campaigns, more so especially for Ireland who kick-off their Euro 2016 qualification campaign on Sunday when they travel to Georgia. Martin O'Neill will use tonight's game as an opportunity to give certain players match practice, whom otherwise have not had ample opportunities thus far this seas
  13. Re: International Friendlies 13th May - 31st May Italy versus Republic of Ireland, 31st May @ 7.45pm BST Ireland take on Italy at Craven Cottage in London, and for this game I'm going to avoid any goal markets, 1x2 outcome markets or Asian Handicap markets today. Instead I'm going to choose a player to score, and a player who is in form and who is surely eager to score and prove that he's worth a place in the Italian 23 man squad for the World Cup. Ciro Immobile is a good goalscorer, and having scored 22 league goals for Torino this season, including 9 goals in his last 8 games of the sea
