BBOTD Sunday 8th July

Recommended Posts

Polmar 4.50 limerick 1pt win 14/1 paddy p Has previously won a Grade A at punchestown over 2m 4f and has been on the PTP scene most recently so should strip fit. Races of a mark of 110 but has won rated 119. He could be fairly well treated as he last competed under rules over a year ago. I like to try for a winner at a decent price and in a very competitive race he seems on a fair enough mark. I'll get a winner yet?

Re: BBOTD Sunday 8th July *Silvery Moon - Ayr 3:30* Form on soft ground could be vital here, and this horse will relish it, unlike a lot of the others. It has won over the trip twice and is a C+D winner also. Was only a neck behind the winner, Levitate, in 3rd, last time out in a competitive race at Carlisle, also on soft. They were 6 lengths clear of the 4th horse, so the form looks very solid. Is 100% at Ayr, Easterby stable in good nick too and when David Allan rides for him at Ayr, the record is 21 wins from 129 runs and a profit of +£24.57 to level stakes. Ticks a lot of boxes. *1 Point WIN @ 3/1 VC BOG*

Re: BBOTD Sunday 8th July 4.15 Market Rasen - 1pt win Basoda @ 9/1 (PP) You have to worry about Kim Bailey's runner's completion record, given he's come to grief four times in his relatively short career so far but if he puts it all together in the jumping department I think he can take this race. He can handle soft ground, although he hasn't put a string of performances together on the surface due to falling/unseating rider. Interesting that the yard stuck by him despite obviously having his problems which saw him off the track for over 18 months prior to his return in May. Before his absence, he won a handicap by 7l off 108 (runner-up very progressive since) so anything like that would suffice today off 7lbs higher. Although he hasn't done much in two starts so far, he only made it to the 2nd fence on his return and therefore would still have needed his run last time from a fitness perspective. He ran okay for a fair way before getting tired and being left a long way back in 2nd by the winner. He should have come on plenty for that, however, and should be ready to put in a good performance if his jumping holds up. The yard are in form and Jason Maguire is up again. The stable have a 26% strike rate at the track so I'd envisage a better effort today.

Re: BBOTD Sunday 8th July 1.45 Market Rasen CHANGING THE GUARD win @ 11/10 bog (Ladbrokes and many more) Won in impressive style last time out giving 26L to the second (recording a RPR of 123) in a 10-runner class 5 handicap over 2m (hurdles) at Uttoxeter (1 Jul) and gets into this race under just a 7lb penalty (won off 97 and has to race off 104 today). Dr Richard Newland's stable in great order with 5 winners and 10 top3 from their last 20 runners in the last few weeks. Same jockey (Sam Jones) on board and the main danger seems the ground (soft) as last time out was good and his previous wins came either on the Polytrack or on good/good to firm ground but wasn't disgraced on soft and heavy in a couple of races on the flat and is facing a very weak opposition here with just 6 runners left and among them the big danger should be Stravita (McCoy on board) who has never finished out of the top 4 over hurdles (2 wins, 2 seconds, 3 thirds and 3 fourths) and won at the end of May over 2m1f a seller at Huntingdon before finishing second last time out at Fontwell (2m3f) back in handicap off a 4lb lower mark (83 and today's mark is 87). Softer ground wouldn't be a problem but the Hughie Morrison's trained mare has plenty to find to win this race if Changing The Guard can perform again something close to his last effort.

Re: BBOTD Sunday 8th July 16.00 Ayr: The Oil Magnate @9/4 VC This is a pretty poor race and it looks the ideal opportunity for the 7yo The Oil Magnate to find back to the winning ways. He won a similar race in last September here at Ayr and he's down to this last winning mark now again. The soft going is in his favour and he looked back in form when finishing third in an Apprentice Handicap over 15f that stretched his stamina a bit too much in the end as he tired considerably in the closing stages.

Re: BBOTD Sunday 8th July Ayr 3.30 Prophesy 7-2 Bet Victor (bog) Easily won a Catterick maiden before posting another improved effort in a similar class race at Haydock doing best of those held up. Progressive and has a decent chance of upsetting the favourite who's more exposed

Re: BBOTD Sunday 8th July 215 Market Rasen: Tayarat EW (10/1 Hills) Probably the worst race i have picked in four years of doing this but the front running Tayarat could just about get away with this today on a track where he was a fair second last month. To be honest he doesn't really go on the ground but none of the others do really and Alice Mills gets on well with him and could be kidded into hanging on in this poor contest. He's just as likely to blow out down the back stretch but worth a try at the odds.

Re: BBOTD Sunday 8th July 3.30 Ayr Silver Rime 1pt win @ 12/1 Bet365 This horse is a CD winner and is now on a career low mark of 73. He has shown signs of a revival in his last couple of runs and could be ready to strike. He has dropped another 2lbs since his latest 4th place at Carlisle. One piece of form to cling onto is a 3 length defeat by Silvery Moon over CD in September last year. That horse is favourite for this race but Silver Rime has a 17lb swing in the weights with that one in this race. His last 2 wins came this time of the year so heres hoping for a 5th career win.

Re: BBOTD Sunday 8th July 1345 market rasen 1pt win changing the guard 11/10 betvic very easy winner last time out, was 1st try at 2 miles, and it did the trick as it won by 26 lenghs, and same trip today and with the ground softer it is worth taking a chance that it handles the ground

Re: BBOTD Sunday 8th July MASTER OF DANCE 2.30 Ayr. 1 point win. Doesn't mind soft ground and the trip's fine, so mix that with the handicapper putting him in off a mark of 65 (2lb below his last winning mark) and a strong possibility of the race being run to suit, and the odds appear to be quite good value. Should run his race and go close. 7/1 Bet365 BOG

Re: BBOTD Sunday 8th July 3:20 Limerick - Vicalus - 0.5pts EW (14/1, William Hill). Going to take a chance on this horse at a decent price on a poor day of racing. Gone off favourite last two races, going a close 2nd first time then falling early next time out. If putting it together then hopefully might spring a surprise and with Condon booked I'll take an each way chance today. Ground should hopefully be fine today as well.

Re: BBOTD Sunday 8th July 5.35 Bellewstown - Chicago - 1pt Win 9/4 PP Soft ground and the step up in trip look ideal for Chicago here. He contested a really good race lto to finish 3rd behind two Aga Khan horses. That was over 10f on soft ground at the Curragh when the front three pulled miles clear of the rest. Stepping up to 1m 6f should really suit based on his runs to date and pedigree - plus he has got tapped for toe on a few of his runs. He doesn't look to be the most straightforward horse but the 1m 6f could be the key to him. Interesting that O'Brien has his daughter on board so they clearly feel she'll be able to handle this 3year old taking on his elders.

Re: BBOTD Sunday 8th July Ayr 3.30 - Silvery Moon - win at 5/2 bog bet365 Drops in class today after running in a few decent handicaps this season. Last time out was beaten under a length in the fiercely competitive Carlisle Bell. He's a CD winner and acts on soft Of the other market leaders Prophesy is a lightly raced 3 year old who ran well last time but he has gone up 3lb for finishing 2nd and appeared to get outstayed on his first attempt at today's trip. He looks the main danger and given the form I'm in he's probably going to win with my horse a neck 2nd Le Chat D'or has been in good form in lesser company and looks like a battler so he's dangerous

Re: BBOTD Sunday 8th July 3.30 Ayr LE CHAT D'OR 5-1 paddy power (BOG) Will love the ground, all wins and places on soft or gf/sft. Last winning mark 67, up 5lbs but open to improvement at the age of 4. Prophecy rates as the main danger but I'd sooner have the selection at 5-1 than the favourite at 7-2. Trainer M Dods has had 4 winners last 12 ran.

Re: BBOTD Sunday 8th July 16.20 Limerick: Lord Ben, 7/1 Betfred, 1pt win Lord Ben's last two races have been over fences. Lto he finished third but was twenty lengths behind the winner. That was run over 20f and, as he raced quite keenly, he didn't see out the trip. He drops back to 17f today which should suit. Before that he finished a 2¾l second over 19f and he jumped well in both races. The ground should be ok. Trainer Henry de Bromhead is in decent form with a few big priced horses running very well. He also trained the winner of the first race at Limerick today and this is his only other runner. Jockey Davy Russell has ridden this horse once before, steering it to his only win over hurdles. He has a good record here over fences and has a good partnership with the trainer.

Won easily and looked to have loads in hand but I wouldn't be too sure about that. It was very much the case that he had the conditions in his favour and the rest of the field was just a really poor bunch. Life will be tougher in a better field of a revised mark. Anyway, nice winner, so I'm happy.
