5 pts a day to keep the boredom away

Recommended Posts

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away Shortie banker 4.30 Wolverhampton - Gabriel's King - Produced confidently by Spencer to win two starts ago and met the well-treated handicap debutant from the thriving Keith Dalgleish yard too good last time. However, the swing at the weights can help him reverse that form, and get back in the winner's enclosure. 5/4. Take on fav 3.00 Wolverhampton - Pipers Piping - Fav got the better of my horse comfortably last time, but a few things didn't go right. Trip was a furlong too far, the jockey isn't very good imo, and didn't get the best of runs. Amy Scott replaces Nicole Norblad here, with the horse going well for Scott before. Horse in good form and this is a weak race. 9/1 Day maker 4.15 Southwell - Pink Evie - Goes handicapping off a very fair mark of 55. Showed little in first two starts but ran well in a race that worked out well last time at Wolverhampton with the tongue-tie on. A repeat of that will see her go extremely close in this weak 0-55 maiden handicap. 9/1.

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away Taking on a fav 2.20 Kempton - Can't be having this Silver Linnet at 10/3, for all he's well treated on best form. Returns from a break so would rather be with DEVEZE, who has the benefit of a recent run, won over CD two runs ago, is still improving, and has bagged a good draw. 11/2 Shortie Banker 3.25 Kempton - LADY CAPRICE - has been in great heart of late and arrives on a hat-trick. Caused an upset last time when turning over Welsea Bwian (1/2 fav) and open to further improvement under Jane Chapple Hyam. 6/4 Day Maker 5.30 Kempton - DINGAAN - CD winner that has dropped plenty in the weights, resurgent stable and booking of Joe Fanning suggests he's off in, to hopefully bring home the bacon! Races from oh but so well handicapped on best form that is no worry. 13/2

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away Taking on a fav 2.20 Kempton - Bobbyow - Taking on a couple of favs here in an open market with this horse. Was in poor form for his previous yard, but bounced back this calendar year for his new one. Ran well in a maiden he had very little chance of winning being rated 49 to be third, and was only headed late on over 6f at Lingfield last time. Should go very well dropped back to 5f. Good draw for a positive ride in stall 2. 6/1 Shortie banker 4.30 Kempton - Pale Orchid - The money continues to come for this one and on his latest impressive running, should go very well under her penalty upped in trip to 7f. I prefer Fairway To Heaven over Discoverer, but this one has been well supported and has this trip within her compass on race evidence and pedigree so can improve again to score off this higher mark. 6/4. Day maker 6.00 Kempton - Sole Danser - Unexposed gelding with only 5 runs to his name, and looks like he can exploit his mark dropped to 6f. Struggled in a hot maiden for Barry Hills on debut before a good effort at Chester when 3l behind the winner, and all 3 horses ahead of him are now rated in the 80s. Ran respectively after a break next time (shaped as if 7f stretched him) before only going down by just over a length at Thirsk. Pulled hard and faded - but still ran respectably - after another break on his all-weather debut last time, and now race-fit and dropping back to 6f, can go very well here. 9/1.

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away Have another go today...... Taking on a favourite....3.55 - April Fool at 7/4 - only 4 runners and this is the 2nd favourite at the moment. Has better course form than the fave (Satwa Laird) and is a front runner who could well get a soft lead in this small field Shortie ........4.30 - Pale Orchid at 11/8 - quite a competitive handicap with a couple of unexposed ones. Pale Orchid has been very impressive in her last 2 runs and scored big speed figs. Looks very much on the up Make my day - 3.25 - Redair at 6/1 - I think it's worth taking on the favourite here. On BBotD last night I put up majestic rose but the price has gone on that one for a make my dayer so I'm going for my second choice, Redair. Hasn't really cut the mustard in handicaps to date but has been running in better ones than this and is a CD winner. prob best at 5f but has been running over 6f a lot recently

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away Taking on a fav 4.55 Meydan - Going to take on the favourite here (long break, back in trip) with African Story of Saeed Bin Suroor's. Has some high class form in France, including on the artificial surface, and made a very pleasing Dubai debut win last time over 7f over Barbecue Eddie. Up in trip but should strip fitter again, and go very well. 7/2 Shortie banker 3.45 Meydan - Unlikely to be too short but forecasted to be joint favourite, and it's another Godolphin horse in the shape of Kinglet. This time an Al Zarooni runner, and he ran a cracker from a wide draw to go down narrowly to his likely co-habitant at the head of the market here. Only went down by 1/2l there with the winner getting a much better run of things, and the step back up to a mile looks sure to suit from a lower draw here. Around 9/4 predicted but SP. Day maker 4.05 Wolverhampton - Big price this one, but hopeful that Dark Coffee can defy his odds and go well. Won 5 times over this c&d around this time last year and his mark has dropped since some poorer efforts (mainly on turf) since. The yard were in dire straits when this one went back to the polytrack in November and are going a little bit better now. Travelled quite well upped to a trip he didn't get home over when last seen, and has had a little break to freshen him up (hopefully not too much). On a decent mark if bouncing back under ideal conditions. 16/1.

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away Day Maker 1.45 - fav here is The Hollinwell, who looked back to his best when second in a Listed race at Newcastle, the form of which has worked out. He won over CD last Winter in another jumpers' bumper but his recent NH runs suggest he isnt one to wade in on at short prices. OPTIMIST looks overpriced at 16/1 as his trainer has a 23 % S/R with his runners on the AW track (admittedly they will be flat horses, bred differently) and he showed improved form when stepped up to 2m last time. 16/1 Taking on a fav Priceless Art heads the market at 3/1 but isn't one I'd want on my side in a battle. He made most to land a weak course maiden last time but I think a lot of the horses from the Swinbank yard are soft in a finish and want to take him on with ABERGAVENNY, who was third in the Greatwood Hurdle in November. Had previously run well on the flat when with Mark Johnston and should be fav here for me, given trainers course record (albeit on the AW with flat horses). 4/1 Shortie banker SOUND ACCORD is expected to improve now having his first run for Brian Ellison. Returned from a spell badly out of form when third at Chepstow on his last run and his trainer could build upon that effort with him as he is a master out of eliciting improvement out of new recuits. 15/8

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away Not far off a massive payout yesterday with Optimist drifting all the way out to 50/1 but running a blinder in second, making the favourite, The Hollinwell, work in the finish and ensuring he knew he'd been in a race. Abergavenny won but the juicy double had been foiled. Taking on a fav 2.40 Wolverhampton - Cri Na Mara - has been subjected to support today the booking of Fallon looks interesting for this CD winner who remains on a good mark. Favourite Silver Linnet was given a soft lead last time and wants taking on. 9/2 Shortie banker 3.40 Wolverhampton - Stars In Your Eyes - has been running well around similar trips the last twice and helps the form standard. One of highest rated on official figures. 6/5 Day maker 4.40 Wolverhampton - The Lock Master - not entirely convinced this is his trip or best surface, think he's best over 1m3f at Southwell, but the price makes the bet here as he was given an awful run in the snow last time and now has a proper jockey on top. 14/1

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away Taking on a fav 2.40 - Cri Na Mara - Fallon on board and these might be more aware of Silver Linnet blasting off if that one chooses to do so. Has a very wide draw today, that one, and my selection had been running well over 5f before up in grade/trip at Dundalk last time. 9/2. Shortie banker 3.10 - Hinton Admiral - Master of Disguise has only won over 5f, and Tombi might need a stronger pace (unlikely now with Cape of Storms and Dancing Lord out). This horse is versatile and is very solid at this level, and over this c&d. Dalgleish yard continue to go well, and he's got a fair shout at the weights. 7/4 Day maker 4.40 Wolverhampton - Opus Maximus - Goes well here (last 3 wins at venue) and has been competing in good races. Only 1lb higher than last victory (by 1l over c&d) and recent 3rd to Emma's Gift reads well. Couldn't land a blow at the less-favoured Kempton last time, but this is a weaker race, and can go well. 13/2.

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away Top class jumps racing at Newbury today, would be rude not to have a little go. 12.10 Newbury 'Shortie banker' - Sprinter Sacre - ante-post jolly for the Arkle. Short enough at the price but deserves to be this short after slamming Peddlers Cross in a Grade 2 chase at Kempton last time. The main dangers today are ones that have been running in handicaps lately, this fellow has Graded form in the book. 1/2 12.40 Newbury 'Taking on a fav' - Long Run dominates the book but is ridden by a dentist without a win to his name this season. Quite happy to take him on given he's plateaued this season. Burton Port looks the main danger but lacks a recent run so siding with Tidal Bay, who represents a trainer who won this for four of the last five years. Was second in the Argento last time which looks stronger form than stablemate What a Friend's hurdles effort at Wetherby. 8/1 1.15 Newbury 'Day maker' - Wham bam, thank you mam, three quality races all in a row before the afternoon has barely begun. Big handicap hurdle here, looks a bit of a pinstickers job but you don't get rich backing 3/1 shots in this sort of race so had a go at finding one to take on Zarkandar (3/1). Abergavenny keeps going off massive prices in these big hurdles and does little wrong. Not far off 2nd fav Olofi in the Greatwood Hurdle when third but almost triple the price of that rival now. Had a pipeopener at Southwell in a jumpers' bumper last time and think he could ruffle a few feathers at a massive price. 20/1 1.25 pt trixie

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away Ill have a bash Fin; 1240 New: Long Run (4/6) Good second in King George doesnt meet any Kauto Star here and has to win this if he's going to retain his Gold Cup 2.55 New: Cedre Bleu (6/1) Taking on For Non Stop and Walkon here, neither have convinced me this season and Cedre Bleu could improve for the trip. 1.55 New: Raya Star (12/1) You have to think Zarkandar needs to win off this mark to have any chance in the Champion but Raya Star was pretty impressive last time and is over priced.

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away Not a bad effort Bh, Raya Star's run well in third behind Zarkandar. My effort for today: Shortie Banker 1.15 Ascot - Keys - bumped into a smart one in Cinders And Ashes last time but that was a very good hurdles debut nevertheless. Expected to impove upon that effort, third winning yesterday helps boost the form. 4/6 Taking on a fav 1.50 Ascot - Silviniaco Conti - had Bobs worth behind last time in the Feltham, won by Grands Crus, and reopposes on identical terms today. That rival is favourite and this one looks the better price of the pair. 6/4 Day maker 3.20 Haydock - Mohayer - travelled really well in soft ground at Ffos Las last time and seems to be improving when upped in trip. Won over 3m1f last time, has a bit further to contend with here and that could continue his improvement under Jonjo O'Neill. 10/1

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away Banker 12.55 Win: Waterunder (10/11) Beat Its A Gimme on his hurdling debut here and there doesnt look much in opposition and should carry the penalty Taking on Fav 3.45 Win: Celestial Halo (11/4) Taking on Binocular who was only going for racecourse gallop before Grandouet got injured and may not be fully wound up. Halo will run his usual genuine race. Day Maker 3.55 Hay: Saffran De Cotte (10/1) Absolutely loves the mud and has won at Haydock, forget the last run when trainer admitted he gave duff instructions and they rode him wrong.

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away Southwell today Banker - 4.35 - Bella Ophelia - hcap debut after impressive mdn win over todays CD, looks the right type for the 5f here - out quick and make all - 11/8 PP Take on Fave - 2.20 - Samasana - taking on Pelican Rock, the fave. Samasana beat PR last time they met but is now 10lb worse off for a length and a half. Take the chance that Samasana is just the better horse and a few pounds isn't going to make much difference. - 9/4 PP Day maker - 5.10 - Rock Anthem - nothing at big odds in these small fields so will settle for this one which was bigger odds an hour ago but is being backed. St Oswald looks better 7f, D'urbeville looks out of nick and I don't think this will be run to suit old general Tufto who needs a fast race with collapsing front runners' Rock Anthem has some course form to his name - 7/2 PP

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away Hard lines Trotter, keep plugging away! My best effort today is from Donny, killing time until Kempton kicks off this evening: Shortie Banker - 3.00 Doncaster OSCAR NOMINEE bumped into a smart sort in Cinders And Ashes last time and wasn't helped by the muddling pace. Drops in grade here and in this larger field, can get back to winning aways against inferior opposition. 10/11 Taking on a fav - 1.55 Doncaster Ardlui is favourite here but is a novice giving away weight under a penalty so taking him on with BLACK POND. Both him and Eagle Rock get weight from Ardlui but the latter is more exposed and has spurned several opportunities. BP is less exposed and entitled to build on his hurdles debut second. Should be second fav for me and looks a cracking price for Henderson, who does well here. 7/1 Day Maker - 3.30 Doncaster WOGAN landed the 2010 Grimthorpe here when with Nicky Henderson. Is now with rookie handler Tom Symonds and seems to have lost his way, PU twice this season. However, he's plumetted in the handicap and if the return to this venue can spark a return to form he could run a race at a price on ground that is ideal. 9/1

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away Shortie Banker..Malin Head - Ludlow 4:15 @ 5/2 Backed this last time out where it showed great game and courage to land a big gamble for the Buckler yard. Had previously shown nothing, and i think there is more to come today. Taking On A Fav.. Even Bolder - Lingfield 3:55 @ 10/3 Hard horse to win with but has been knocking on the door of late, Shane Kelly takes the ride, think the fav Diamond Vine is nothing great, and Even Bolder won't find a better opportunity. Day Maker.. Followmeuptocarlow - Punchestown 4:10 @ 13/2 Was well supported lto and went on to win well. Up 7 pounds and up in trip, but looked to have plenty in hand last time out and although this is a tough race, should be fighting out the finish.

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away Bit bored today so thought i'd give it a shot... Banker - Doncaster 3.30 - Oscar Nominee @ 5/6 Looks a much easier task for him than the grade 2 event at Haydock lto, should also prefer the better ground today. Won very comfortably at Southwell in his penultimate start and should repeat that here. Taking on Fav - 5.20 Ludlow - Danandy @ 3/1 Won on her first start under rules last month at Fontwell in what was an impressive run. Point to point winner that should handle the trip and hopefully make it 2/2. Favourite Barenger was a BF lto and looked like he needed a longer trip which he gets today however he didnt jump brilliantly that day, worth taking on imo. Day Maker - 7.30 Kempton - Trecase @ 11/2 Won comfortably at this track last week over 10f getting off the mark on his 22nd attempt, this looks to be a harder contest but he's only up 2lb for the win and potentially scope for another good run. 7lb claimer Darren Egan takes the ride once again.

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away I've looked at the first 3 races at Lingers........... Banker - Anginola 2.40 - ten pounds the best of these and is the only one who's won races. 6/4 Taking on a fave - Kahfre 3.10 - bit of a cheat this one as it's now the favourite but it wasn't half an hour ago when I was looking at the race. CD winner, won this race last year, 3rd run back from break and switches back to Lingers from kempton - 11/4 Day maker - Bojangles 2.10 - going for a big one here. Has one piece of form which puts it in with a chance, beaten 3 lengths off a 10lb higher mark at salisbury. Has first time headgear and up in trip. Bit of a fingers crossed job rather than an expectation of success ! - 16/1

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away 2.10 Huntingdon - shortie banker Vimiero - ran Ile De Re close last time and thus looks better than his current mark. Surprised they havent gone down the handicap route with him now given the trainer but hoping he repeats that effort to fend off the newcomers. 2/1 Sporting Bet. 3.40 Huntingdon - Taking on a fav Think Ellison's one needs taking on at the price and Dot Or Feather looks a cracking price. Won on chase debut last time and given he's a winning pointer, this stiffer test looks ideal. 4/1 Sporting Bet 4.10 Huntingdon - Day Maker The riskiest bet of the three but Melanos could find a handicap off this mark. Ran okay behind Ranjaan and lemon drop Red two runs ago in novice company, those two head for cheltenham now. he got a mark of 115 and ran well in race not run to suit last time when winner slipped the field. Could go close off 1lb higher if delivered soon. 4/1 Sporting Bet.

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away Shortie banker 3.40 Hereford - Monturgeon - has shown plenty of promise on previous hurdles spins and could improve for this drop in trip. Had a run in a jumpers bumper recently to sharpen him up. 10/11 Taking on a fav 6.25 Kempton - Ctappers - think, in this field of 3, Chris Catlin, who is a caapable front running rider, will dictate. The fav sometimes takes a keen hold and might not settle - looks too short to take a chance on for all he's the most likely winner. 9/4 Day maker 8.25 Kempton - Ellie In The Pink - had a lovely profile of progression last season and would go well if capable of continuing that improvement this season. Went well fresh last season and J. Crowley booked tonight which could be an indicator of a big run. 6/1 b365

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away 230 Car: Charminster (5/4) Jumping letting him down at the minute but very classy on his day and this small field should help him and gain some confidence. 220 Font: Fergall (13/2) Millarrow is odds on here but the race looks more open than that to me and Fergall has been steadily improving and could be a danger. 420 Chp: Simply Ben (7/1) ran close up behind Ambion Wood and then bumped into Brindisi Breeze last time, this is easier.

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away Shortie banker 3.30 Lingfield - Waterloo Dock - tight betting heat with Gin Twist also 6/5, but the latter steps up in trip and is a 3 yo taking on the older selection. Luke Morris on Waterloo Dock and could show all of these a clean pair of heels if breaking on terms. 6/5 Taking on a fav 2.00 Lingfield - Hinton Admiral - 4 runner claimer here, two arrive badly out of sorts. Hazzard County actually looks the one to beat at the weights but a slowly run 4 runner race might not be ideal for Laura Pike and hopefully Hayley can make all on Hinton Admiral and catch him flat footed. 7/4 Day maker 5.00 Lingfield - Hidden Glory - 14/1 into 8/1 this morning after Hugh got involved, but still looks a fair price given won off 83 in C3 last year and off 72 in C5 today. Hanagan a good booking and proven over C&D. Should be staying on late with a run. 8/1

Re: 5 pts a day to keep the boredom away Have a crack at Southwell today Shortie banker 4.05 - Red Orator - 11/4 - Johnston maiden winner making handicap debut and could improve a lot, looks a real galloper and no surprise if he were to set off in front and grind them into the dust Take On A Fave 2.30 - Pearls from Sydney 11/2 - taking on Kingscombe, the Eddery trained favourite who has shown nothing in 3 previous runs. I can't see how he's favourite apart from the fact that a lot of Eddery's get well back, but they don't all win. My horse finished 2nd here last time and has the best recent form and acts on the trackl Make my Day 4.35 - Jeu de Vivre - 7/1 - taking on a few course specialists here with another Johnston/Fanning horse stepping up in trip. No course form but acts on soft and Johnston knows a Southwell horse when he sees one. This one ran a couple of days ago and has a good record when turned out quick, has won with 7.6 and 3 day breaks between races
