BBOTD Monday 17Th of October

Recommended Posts

15:10 Pontefract Comptonspirit E/W (15,00) Bet365 The 7 year old mare, are one of the most experienced participants, in this race. Comptonspirit is double C&D winner and a wide draw might help her to a good run, in this 17 horses field. The going seems to suit her, really well. Most of her 27 win or place runs, was secured under simular going. Comptonspirit recent form. 2-3-1-1-8 The jockey Paul Hanagan needs no presentation. He is the current leader, for the title, turf jockey of the year. De Sousa are breathing down his neck, so there are no room for any mistakes. Hanagan would not have chosen this mare, if he didnt think, they would have a chance to win it.

Re: BBOTD Monday 17Th of October 5.10 Pontefract Dancing Freddy won in style over CD two runs ago and his price here looks an over-reaction to a poor run at Yarmouth last time over 6f, which is probably too far for him. Dropped back in trip here he could outrun his odds from a low draw. 20/1 Boylesports, 1 pt win

Re: BBOTD Monday 17Th of October 16:00 Windsor DISCOTECA is definitely worth a bet here in this quite competitive contest, and although there has to be doubts to whether he’ll ever manage to fulfil the potential he showed over course and distance in April, there’s reasons to believe he could well show it today. Andrew Balding’s 3yo is lightly-raced, having raced twice at 2, showing promise on both occasions and then getting off the mark at the third time of asking over today’s course and distance on his seasonal reappearance. In that race he still looked green but won in the end with a fair bit in hand, pulling clear by four lengths. The form of that maiden has worked out quite well with four horses in behind getting in front subsequently and Discoteca looked set for a decent season. It hasn’t quite worked out that way, very possibly due to a good run on his next start at Newmarket in a listed contest. He ran well to finish 4th and although beaten 11 lengths it was a very respectable run in pretty tough company. As a result his mark was hiked up 7lbs and on his subsequent two starts, has struggled to land a blow in competitive big-field handicaps at Royal Ascot (over 1m4f) and back at Newmarket over 1m2f. Those were quite dreadful efforts, even accounting for those races being far tougher than this contest today. That being said, I think there’s cause for optimism with his chances today. He’s had 102 days which is likely a good thing as he’s won in the past coming off a break, so perhaps it’s best to catch him fresh. A gelding operation has also been performed which can only help his chances too, so I expect he’ll be more focussed this time around. The visor, which was applied last time with no real impact, has also been discarded. Andrew Balding isn’t in the best of form at present but had a winner and a runner-up at Bath on Sunday and the yard may well be running into a bit of form. He obviously likes the track and with no likely rival for the lead in this race, he may well get an easy lead. Discoteca bouncing back to form I think is quite possible, especially now dropped to a mark of 85 and I think he could well run some way above that on fast ground off a break. His current odds of 12/1 are quite generous in my view and he’s worth a medium sized each-way wager. DISCOTECA; EW @ 12/1 Boylesports (bog)

Re: BBOTD Monday 17Th of October 3:00 Sunrise Safari @ Windsor - Won this race last year beating one of todays fancied horses in Maze by 1 length when running on.Since then has been running in a lot of higher class races without much success and is off a 4lb lower mark than that race last year.Trainer Richard Fahey has a 100% strike rate at Windsor this year with 2-2 and can add another here if in the mood 0.5 pt E/W @ SP

Re: BBOTD Monday 17Th of October 3:10 Pontefract - Julius Geezar - 1pt @ 25/1 (Ladbrokes) Well-handicapped animal on his 2nd over 6f at Ripon in July off a mark of 86. He's 4lbs lower now but runs over 5f at a track that takes some getting and I fancy that this is the sort of place to suit him. He's well-positioned in stall 2 and with the Dascombe yard going a lot better of late, he could be up to causing an upset. They also boast 5 winners from their 20 runners here, which is a fine record by anyone's standards. 25/1 is a gigantic price and if he runs to his best, he should make the frame on what is his second start at C4 level (other was lto but soft ground doesn't suit).

Re: BBOTD Monday 17Th of October Hip Hip Hooray - Windsor 5.00 (0.5ew 33/1 PP BOG) Triple course winner (twice over CD), who showed signs of a return to form when beaten only 2.5 lengths into 6th place LTO at Wolverhampton. Was at the top of his game back in June with a close second and then a CD win off 62, but has failed to build on that in five runs since (three of which were in higher class) and is now down to a decent mark of 63. Ian Mongan is back on board today, and he has two wins, two seconds and a third from his eight rides on the horse. Seems very overpriced for a CD specialist (with ideal going/jockey) at a whopping 33-1 (the RP forecast was 14-1).

Re: BBOTD Monday 17Th of October 410 Ponte: Riptide EW 10/1 Hills Staying handicap and all the usual suspects are in here, Mr Crystal and Dan Buoy are previous winners of this race and both have EW shouts today but I think this 2m2f trip will be right up Riptides alley and we can forget his last run when well beaten in the mud. Ran well at this course when a staying on 5th over slightly shorter showing he really needs this type of trip. Ran well at York after that and although his mark of 70 doesnt give him too much to play with he ought to make a mark in a race such as this.

Re: BBOTD Monday 17Th of October Grey Danube - Pontefract 2:40 - (WIN @ 10/1 Hills) Darren Bunyan is a new Irish trainer on the scene. He has only had 3 runners to date, 2 of them being this horse's runs but he had a horse run really well at Dundalk last Friday and i find it very interesting that he is bringing Grey Danube to Pontefrect. Grey Danube ran a very respectable race last time out in Dundalk. He was completely unfancied going off at 50/1 but finished 5th of 14, only 4 lengths behind Caprella from a wide draw. BA Curtis has also come over just for the 1 ride.

Re: BBOTD Monday 17Th of October Back down today in class from not a bad effort in last time out class 3' Trainer Mr A. Balding's 2yr old filly has had a month off and if she can improve any amount could take a part in the finish in Race 3 at Windsor. She does have one win under her belt and that win came under the Jockey that rides her again today, Mr L Keniry. I do have a concern on the going as the filly's sole win was on sodt ground and today reads good to firm. However Mr Balding am sure would not be running her on ground if she were not without a chance of atleast taking some prize money home. Windsor 3:30 - Dressed in Lace. 0.5 e/w bet 9/1 Corals & VC Enjoy your day.

Re: BBOTD Monday 17Th of October Plumpton 3.50 Runshan win - 9/4 Lads Two horse race here imo. Or Sing About was lucky to beat Justabout over C&D last month. Despite the raise in the handicap the Colin Tizzard runner can beat his rival and represents saver material. Dusty Dane is badly out of form, so I doubt he can get involved unless the blinkers perk him up. Runshan had a good prep and will come here 100% ready. He had a similar campaign last year. Finished 2nd on his seasonal reappearance and bolted up off just 1lb higher. Trainer is in form and Tom Scudamore booked, so he's probably the one to beat.

Re: BBOTD Monday 17Th of October AJOOL 3.20 Plumpton. 0.5 points each way. Needs to find a bit more on the bare form of things, but goes up in trip which I think will suit and also goes into handicaps. Gets in off a mark of 85 which is exploitable if improving naturally and for the trip. The ground's fine and so worth a go at big odds. 16/1 Bet365 BOG

Re: BBOTD Monday 17Th of October Stipulate 3.40 Pontefract 1pt win 7/2 PP BOG Giving Stipulate a chance today after slightly disappointing last time out. He won on debut in decent fashion and looked like a horse to follow. The runner up that day won next time (Devdas) giving the form some substance. The slight ease in the ground should suit as he's by a Sadlers Wells mare. Cecil and Queally can't do much wrong at the moment and this colt will hopefully continue their good form.

Re: BBOTD Monday 17Th of October 5:20 Plumpton - Finnegan Paddy - Back Won easily in a point to point lto and has since been bought for pretty big money. Makes his debut under rules here but should be able to make it a winning one with only 2 opponents to beat. Been found a good opportunity to get a win here 1pt win @ 4/9 Bet365 BOG

Re: BBOTD Monday 17Th of October P5.10 Bonnie Charlie 0.5pt E/W 28/1 Victor Chandler Dandy Nicholls has only had this horse for 3 starts but he's got the knack of improving cast-offs and I think he's ready to strike with this one on its return to 5 furlongs. The horse has raced in much better company in the past and it's all down to whether the trainer can return the horse to form. The earlier results at the course today suggest the high drawn horses may have an advantage so hopefully the draw of 15 will also be a plus. If the horse can return to form, it's handicap mark is very lenient and it's worth taking a chance with at a big price.
