Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2012

Hmmm' date=' does anyone know why the colours on the table arent coming out? :unsure[/quote'] Had the same problem with the ten to follow table. I posted in Firefox from an excel spreadsheet. When I used IE it was in colour but columns were all over. Moved both your threads over as requested mate. :ok

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2012 With entries announced on Tuesday its time to bite a bullet with a couple of these. Uncle Junior is one where i've made a decision to come out of, primarily on the basis of this quote from Willie Mullins.

A dour stayer who won a 3m6f handicap at the Punchestown festival in May. He ran third in the Munster National but we decided to try the cross-country route with him and were delighted with his win at Cheltenham on Friday. The plan is to stay in that category and we will aim for the festival and then Punchestown. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a horse for races like that
Absolutely no mention of the Grand National there, and you'd have to imagine a run is unlikely. LAY - Uncle Junior £4 @ 330.0

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2012 So there i am sweating on the Grand National entries today when I stumbled across this on Victor Dartnall's stable tour on At the Races. It doesnt bode well for Exmoor Ranger who it appears is now being aimed at the Scottish version, despite hinting at Aintree in a recent RFO Trainer Talk article. Another £16 down the pan :wall

EXMOOR RANGER 10 ch g Grand Plaisir - Slyguff Torus. Useful staying handicap chaser, last of four wins from 18 chase starts came off 137 penultimate start over three miles at Ascot in October beating Razor Royale a length in 17-runner event. Went to 144 next run when distant fifth of 10 to Hold On Julio at Sandown January 7 and now 143. "He's entered for Sandown on February 4 - the last time he ran there the ground was very sticky and he didn't like it. He was good on better ground at Ascot the run before and he is very well, it's just a matter of the ground being ok for him. He could go to Cheltenham and long-term there's the Scottish National where he could get the right ground."

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2012 82 entries and all in all not too bad for me, although i've lost 10 bets. I already knew i'd lost these through injury/retirement: Denman Poker de Sivola Oscar Time In addition, the following werent entered today: Faasel Merigo Western Charmer Big Fella Thanks The Minack Exmoor Ranger Promising Anshan No massive surprises there - i'd guessed Promising Anshan and Exmoor Ranger werent going to be entered. Western Charmer, despite running a shocker last week would have still got an entry I thought. However something appears amiss with him.

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2012 Bit lonely in here AK, took me ages to find you mate! AK, the excel tables are coloured in Explorer but the format is unpredictable to say the least. Any spaces between words and it creates another line. Firefox come ot B/W as you probrably know and you cant post them from Safari at all. I've now switched over to google docs, see BBOTD tables, you can make them look how you want and they automatically update from your sheet so no need to keep posting them. :ok Bit complicated at first but once its done its fine, if you go down that road let me know if you want a hand with it. You can share them with others with gmail accounts which is handy if you need help with it.

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2012 Thanks Billyhills :ok I've created a spreadsheet but i'm a bit unclear on how I get it to display here - as you can see from the last two posts, pasting the table hasnt exactly gone to plan! Cheers, AK.

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2012 The good thing about the entries being made is that it clears up some of the doubt around trainer’s intentions and encourages people to take a more active part in the market. This results in some welcome shortening in prices, which I can take advantage of. So, over the last week there has been some movement on Some Target and Swing Bill, two horses who I thought I would struggle to get out of. LAY – Some Target - £7.86 @ 160 LAY – Swing Bill - £7 @ 250.0

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2012 BACK – Rare Bob - £3.60 @ 95.0 Topped up on this one, having already backed him at 75.0, I think 95.0 under-rates him. LAY – According to Pete - £5 @ 50.0 Backed at 87.0, so a good chance to secure a free bet. Trainer nervous about his handicap mark so not 100% certain to run.

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2012 The thread is at the stage now where the focus changes a bit. Rather than trying to speculate around which horses will be entered for the race, it becomes more important to try and work out those who I would like to back to actually win the race. Part of this process is releasing some funds from those whom I don’t fancy much. Hence, the following: LAY – Wymott - £2.06 @ 75.0 Another below par effort for this one last time out and its hard to see him figuring in the National in his current for. A small lay to reduce exposure. LAY – Synchronised - £4.62 @ 22.0 Has experience of carrying big weights over long distances and is likely to have the McCoy factor in his favour, however I can’t help feeling he is badly handicapped now. LAY – Becauseicouldntsee - £3 @ 55.0 Trainer is bullish but has a bit to prove now.

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2012 Back - Deep Purple £6.01 @ 67.52 Won over 3m6f at Sandown which put him right in the picture for Aintree. You could argue that part of the reason he won so convincingly was a lenient looking mark of 149, however he wasn’t stopping and still looks reasonably treated off 154. He has a touch of class, having won a Peterborough Chase and a Charlie Hall and has been running at the top level for the last 2-3 years. That win last time out was his first in handicap company and maybe that is his level nowadays.

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2012 Back – Niche Market £10 @ 32.0 I’ve outlined my reasons for backing this one earlier in the thread but essentially he is looking very well handicapped off 142, having finished 5th off 149 last year. He loves the track and jumps the fences and that’s half the battle. He was excelent on unsuitable ground in finishing 2nd behind West End Rocker in the Becher Chase. There is a slight stamina doubt but he is an Irish National winner, was bang in contention up until 2 fences out last year and as long as Phil Smith doesn’t stitch him up when the weights are announced this week, that 7lb difference should go a little way to offsetting any stamina doubts.

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2012 Back – Planet of Sound 24p @ 46.0 I have only had 24p matched so far but I might as well put my reasons for backing him whilst I wait for the rest to be matched. It won’t take a genius to work out that he has entered calculations after an excellent 2nd in the Hennessy behind Carruthers. He has a similar profile to Deep Purple in the sense that he is a horse that has been running at the highest level and took advantage of a bit of leniency in the weights. He will run off the same mark of 158 if lining up at Aintree which makes him of interest. That has historically been a decent trial for the National and I would be happy if I could get 46.0 on him.

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2012 Lay –Sunnyhillboy £17.90 @ 55.0 I’m quite exposed to this one and whilst I think he would run a big race if lining up at Aintree, I still havent read any commitment from the stable. In fact the two quotes I can find from O’Neill have conflicting information about his target for the season. One says Fairyhouse and one says Aintree. Sensible to lay off a bit at this stage I think. Quotes below: “He’s back and in grand form. It was unlike him to fall and he hurt a joint when it happened (Chelt Fest in Stewart Family Chase), but he got over that and is in good nick. I was amazed with his run in Ireland – he jumped great and stayed on really well, so his season might end up at Aintree. Before that it will be a simliar story really, decent two-and-half to three mile chases” Trainer Jonjo O’Neill said: “He is not a big horse at all really. He is a grand honest horse and he normally jumps very well. “He did fall at Cheltenham which was a bit unusual. He took a real heavy fall but then he ran a blinder at Fairyhouse when he finished third which was great as it is further than we thought he would get.” That race could again be on the agenda again for Sunnyhillboy who can be backed at 12-1 for Saturday’s race. O’Neill added: “It [irish Grand National] is the end of the season for the likes of these good horses and it is a good prize and if everything goes to plan we will do that.”

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2012 Only -£8.24 in deficit now which I should be able to lay off by race day. The last couple of years I have ended up with a bit of credit, maybe £30ish, which enables me to back my stronger fancies for the race, so i'll aim for that again.

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2012 BACK – Treacle £5 @ 90.0 I was watching the Irish Hennessy yesterday with one eye on Treacle, who at first glance looked a strange entry given that he was way out of his depth. However I remember reading something Martin Keighley said with regards to Any Currency’s entry in the Argento a couple of weeks ago. Basically, whilst having little chance of winning, the reason for the entry was that they were hoping that he could stay on at the end into a place with a view to getting his handicap mark up. That appears to be what connections of Treacle were doing yesterday. He had an entry for the Grand National previously and didn’t make the cut and he was in danger of not doing so again this year off a lowly mark of 132. Yesterdays run would have been exactly what connections were looking for, staying on into 3rd past admittedly tired horses. It will be interesting to see what view Phil Smith takes on Treacle given that he was staying on past beaten horses but I’d be shocked if he didn’t go up a few lb’s which should be enough to get him in. If he runs, he would be one of the better outsiders having finished a good staying on 2nd in the Paddy Power Chase, which followed a return to winning ways at Galway before that. He won’t look especially well handicapped now but he is in good form, has a staying pedigree and would be one of the better outsiders. I had my finger hovering over the “back” button in the closing stages and am pleased to have secured 90.0 about him, when he is now available to back at only 50.0

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2012 Weights are announced tomorrow, so obviously a big day. As well as seeing what weights horses have been allocated it gives a chance for trainers to show their hand. I will be looking out for O'Neill's quotes re: Sunnyhillboy pretty closely!
