Re: Thurs 2.05 : Pertemps Final (Handicap Hurdle) Only 1 favourite in the last 10 years which was Inching Closer for Jonjo O’Neill at odds of 6/1. Jonjo O'Neill has won this race twice in the last 9 years with Inching Closer in 2003 and Creon iin 2004. There have been 2 winners at odds of 50/1 in the last six years, Creon in 2004 and Kadoun in 2006. Forgive ’N’ Forget (1981) is the only horse to have won this race and go onto win the Gold Cup in (1983).

Re: Thurs 2.05 : Pertemps Final (Handicap Hurdle) Pertempts Final Cross Kennon 1pt EW - 25/1 (Bet365) Taking a risk here but he will not be 25/1 come the day and after today's solid run I'd expect them to be heading here. He loves Cheltenham, was fourth in this race last year after staying on powerfully up the hill and confirmed his liking for the course when taking a listed handicap hurdle off a mark of 130. Was given a 8lb rise for that win and headed to Cheltenham once more. Was cruising when brought down three from home. Ran again today off the same mark, but I did have worries about him going right-handed and wanting a testing track. Ran respectably, the winner won very well but was probably far more suited to the testing ground. Cross Kennon stayed on to take second. He has improved from last year and will run a much better race on good ground which he seems to love.

Re: Thurs 2.05 : Pertemps Final (Handicap Hurdle) The Edward O’Grady charge, under jockey Andrew McNamara was always prominent, hitting the lead four furlongs out, travelling well and clear of the field approaching the last, his lead reducing but continuing to stay on well. The event favourite held off all challengers, powering on in the final stages to defeat the strong finishing Riverstown by half-a-length. “We bred him ourselves. I’m impressed with the way he jumped. I’ll probably give him one more run at Tipperary or Limerick then put him away,” said the winning trainer, Edward O’Grady after the race. “We’ll bring him back in the spring with the aim of running him at Aintree more than Cheltenham. I have to discuss it with the owners but I think the flat track might suit him better. “His brother ran earlier today, Rare Commodity, and he’s had trouble with his wind. This fellow also had a small wind operation and that’s why he didn’t run until he was five. “We weren’t 100 per cent sure of the merit of his bumper performances but today was a decent class maiden hurdle, possibly of the standard of Leopardstown at Christmas. “He’s not the finished article yet but he’s The Real Article!” ------------------- sugests his target is more towards Aintree

Re: Thurs 2.05 : Pertemps Final (Handicap Hurdle)

Have asked for him to be added to the Betfair market
Cheers. I told a lad about it 2 weeks ago and he told me he got a 10er on @ 300 on betfair, so i was looking for that but couldnt find him on there. He was on there last week the horse, but im not for one second believing he got 300 for a 10er, not a hope in hell.... And if he did get 300, fair fekks to him

Re: Thurs 2.05 : Pertemps Final (Handicap Hurdle) I am only interested in one horse for this and thats David Pipes CHARTREUX, he currently trades at 26"s on the machine which doesn"t inspire confidence but i can see him being targeted for it. This fellow is a son of Robert sangsters high class colt "Colonel collins" who was placed in both the 94 2000gns and Derby but unfortunately never reached the heights he looked capable of. Chartreux is a very lightly raced individual who looks for all the world a horse who could go to the top in the world of National hunt. 16/1 is freely available with all high st bookmakers and i"m prepared to take that, all things considered.

Re: Thurs 2.05 : Pertemps Final (Handicap Hurdle)

I was told to watch out for The Real Article' date=' i thought he was running in this race but i cant seem to find him anymore.. Anyone any ideas where its running?thanks[/quote'] ------------- A little more info--and seems this race was not a target anyways------------- Edward O'Grady has revealed a trip to Aintree could be more likely than an outing at the Cheltenham Festival for his unbeaten youngster The Real Article. The three-time bumper winner opened his account over obstacles at Listowel in September and has since been saved for a spring campaign. He carries an entry in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle. "He will probably run at the end of February or more likely early March. His entry in the Supreme is more of a 'just in case' than anything else and the chances are that he might be more likely to go to Aintree," said the trainer "That was my original plan, but trainers can change their minds, so we'll see. "He'll work fairly soon and then we'll decide where we run him. If he ran at the end of February, then the possibility of running at Cheltenham would certainly be live.

Re: Thurs 2.05 : Pertemps Final (Handicap Hurdle) PERTEMPS FINAL HANDICAP HURDLE TRENDS 2011 The second race on day 3 is the Pertemps Final, which is a listed handicap hurdle run over 3 miles. Horses not quite thought good enough for the World Hurdle often take their place in this and with Big Bucks & Grand Crus likely to scare off a few in that race, there could be quite a high class renewal this year. It has thrown up a couple of 50/1 winners in past 6 years and it’s always a tricky race to work out. Below we take a look at the trends for the past 10 runnings: Age (Win-Place-Runners) 5yo: 0-5-26 6yo: 3-9-50 7yo: 1-8-64 8yo: 2-6-47 9yo: 4-1-22 10yo+: 0-1-27 10 of 10 winners were aged 6 to 9 & they accounted for 34 of 40 places, though they have accounted for almost 78% of the total runners. Horses aged 10+ (0-1-27) have managed just 1 place from 27 runners. Weight (Win-Place-Runners) Horses carrying 10-10 or more: 4-8-91 Horses carrying 10-9 or less: 6-22-145 In the past 7 runnings horses carrying 10-9 or less have won 6 and filled 21 of 28 places. Top Weight: P00F83009080 (0-1-12) Official Ratings Horses rated 143 to 160: 1-2-28 Horses rated 129 to 142: 7-20-143 Horses rated 128 or lower: 2-8-65 Horses officially rated 129 to 142 have won 7 of the last 10 from approximately 60% of the total runners & they have filled all 12 places in the past 3 years. Recent/Past Form 5 of 10 winners won last time out 10 of 10 winners had run in the past 50 days 9 of 10 winners had run 3 to 7 times that season 10 of 10 winners had won 2 to 5 hurdles races 6 of 10 winners had run in 2 to 4 handicap hurdles 9 of 10 winners had won no more than 3 handicap hurdles 9 of 10 winners had won a Class 3 or higher hurdle 7 of 10 winners had won over 3M+ (2 exceptions had finished 2nd over 3M+ & other had twice won over 2M 6F & having first run at 3M+) 9 of 10 winners had not won or placed at Cheltenham before (3 having first course start), so previous Festival form is far from necessary Other races Previous Year's winner (Buena Vista): 00805 (0-0-5) Sandown Heroes Handicap Hurdle winner (Kilcrea Kim): 100 (1-0-3) Haydock Pertemps Qualifier winner (Skippers Brig): 02FP01F (1-1-7) Citipost Handicap Hurdle winner (Lush Life): 32 (0-2-2) Leopardstown Pertemps Q'fier winner (Across The Bay): 3082 (0-2-4) Kempton Pertemps Qualifier winner (Working Title): 00 (0-0-2) Warwick Pertemps Qualifier winner (Mobaasher): 000 (0-0-3) 2 of 2 Irish-trained winners ran in the Leopardstown Pertemps Qualifier, both finishing 11th 3 of 10 winners ran in the Heroes Handicap Hurdle, finishing 107 2 of 10 winners ran in the Cheltenham Pertemps Qualifier, finishing 88 Racing Tactics 7 of 10 winners raced prominently with the leaders Two other were settled in midfield, while only one winner came from the rear. Trainers Nigel Twiston-Davies (2-1-7) has gained 2 wins and 1 place from his 9 runners in the past 10 runnings. Jonjo O’Neill (2-1-21) has also won 2 of the last 10 runnings but from far more runners. David Pipe (1-2-8) saddled the winner last year and also filled a couple more places with his 8 runners in the past 10 runnings. Venetia Williams (1-1-4) and Dessie Hughes (1-0-4) are the only other 2 trainers with entries that have won the race since 2000. Paul Nicholls (0-2-6) and Alan King (0-2-9) have both bagged a couple of places from their representatives. Irish trained runners (2-7-44) have a fair record in this having won 2 of the last 10 and filling 22.5% of the place from approximately 18.6% of the total runners. Price No massively significant trend with regard to prices but beware of backing any horse at single-figure odds as in the past 7 years only 2 of the 27 runners priced below 10/1 have made the places. Favourites (1-3-11) have won just 1 of the last 10 runnings, giving a level stakes loss of 3.00. Summary: Based on the trends from the past 10 years you are looking for a horse: · Aged 6 to 9 · Carrying 10-9 or less · Officially rated 129 to 142 · Ran in the past 50 days (ideally won) · Run 3 to 7 times this season · Won a class 3 or better hurdle · Won 2 to 5 times over hurdles (won no more than 3 handicaps) · Won over 3M+ · Tends to race prominently · Priced 10/1 or bigger · Trained by Twiston-Davies, Pipe, J O’Neill, or Venetia Williams

Re: Thurs 2.05 : Pertemps Final (Handicap Hurdle) Chartreux 1.5pt EW - 7/1 (5 places) I was very keen on this horse lto when he traveled like a dream only to blow up the hill and finish 3rd. Few of Pipe's needed their run at the time and I think this fella just wasn't fit rather than not staying. I think he will love the better ground tomorrow and has just sneaked off low weight today. Gives the impression he's a lot better than his current mark and could be another Gran Crus on the cards. Few dark horses in there, but the David Pipe runner is really well handicapped and I expect a big run from him off just 10-3. Over 3 miles the low weight tells in the end and it might be the difference between winning and losing. Hoping for a good run and Pipe deserves a winner after the fall of Great Endeavour.

I agree on Chartreux, he is definitely better than his official handicap rating. Hopefully he can run a big race tomorrow. As you say, there are a few dark horses in this race tomorrow, if he doesnt win tomorrow I can see him winning one of his next few races. Definitely a good each-way bet.

Re: Thurs 2.05 : Pertemps Final (Handicap Hurdle) 2.05 - 1.5pts e/w Barwell Bridge @ 25/1 (PaddyPower) The Pertemps Final looks wide open here and is worth siding with one at a big price, and an overpriced one at that, in my opinion. Barwell Bridge is a very consistent horse who has been in the top 3 on 26 occasions out of 46 career starts in all codes (winning 6). Often does find 1 or 2 too good, but is very interesting here. Rated 85 on the flat, Barwell Bridge has proved to be excellent over timber and was aimed at the Triumph Hurdle by Warren Greatrex before he had jumped a flight. He ran away with his debut hurdle at Ffos Las before two solid placed efforts prior to the Cheltenham race. I'm not sure the Triumph was particularly good last year (though Carlito Brigante did the form no harm yesterday), but Barwell Bridge kept on to be a remote 5th of 17, which signalled a good start to its NH career. It disappointed a bit on its seasonal reappearance - finishing behind Escort'men at Chepstow. However, with the tongue-tie fitted, the horse bounced right back to form with a solid 2nd to Riptide over 2m4f, before running a huge race at Cheltenham over 3 miles in December. Daryl Jacob cantered round on the horse, looking an almighty threat up the straight, and ended up finishing a 1 1/4 length 2nd to Lush Life, who reopposes. The horse was carried left after the final flight before hanging violently right under the whip, and then ran all the way to the line having been straightened up. Would have gone very close, and receiving an extra 2lbs from Lush Life today, must have a solid chance. That horse is a shorter price. Ran no race at Kempton, which perhaps contributes to his big price here, but was reported to have returned sick, and that run is perhaps best ignored. If you do take that run out of the equation, this horse is not a 25/1 shot, and can hopefully come into the race and threaten at the death. Has a decent record in big fields of: 1/16 2/16 5/17 (Triumph) 2/16 12/19 (LTO when sick)

Re: Thurs 2.05 : Pertemps Final (Handicap Hurdle) 14:05 Cheltenham Such a wide open and tricky contest to work out so just small stakes for me here. Got the field down to about 6 and have nit-picked away until I got it down to one that I believe offers the most value. Firstly I believe Alfie Spinner can finally get a reward with his consistency by landing today's race. Since gone hurdling he has won 2 races from 9, a novice event at Exeter in the mud and a handicap (off a mark of 115) at Newbury in soft ground. Since then he has been moved up and down in trip in all 5 races where he has notched up 2 places in graded handicap races (4/18 off 122 and 2/20 off 130) and a 2nd place in a class 2 handicap (mark of 127). Raised 8lbs for his place at Sandown in graded company last time out which isn't ideal but I believe he can spring up another improved effort today as that clearly was his best run to date and no doubt Nick Williams saw that race as perfect preparation for today. Tackles 3 mile for the first time today but has placed over 3m1f so I'm sure he will get the trip no problem. Would possibly prefer the ground to have a bit more cut in it but his run at Sandown LTO was in good ground so I'm not too concerned about that either. 1pt E/W Alfie Spinner @ 14/1 (Bet365 (bog) - 1/4 odds - 1,2,3,4,5)

Re: Thurs 2.05 : Pertemps Final (Handicap Hurdle) Pertemps Final Barafundle 1pt EW - 9/1 (5 palces) Tarablaze 0.5pt EW - 20/1 (5 places) Should've tipped Barafundle last night. Into single figures after Pricewise this morning. Comes here with a great chance and his form is rock solid. Tarablaze is overpriced and might prefer softer, but has form on good and g/s and the 20/1 is big.
