Xcout reacted to Sir Puntalot in Is picking races in advance a good way to bet?
The more racing you watch and the longer you study it for, the more you will understand. It's not as simple as just concentrating on certain types of races though, you really would be limiting your opportunities.
It's a bit like only betting on the Premier League and Champions League, when there are some great opportunities in many other leagues for football.

Thanks BH for calculating the tables, very interesting.  Good to see so many people in profit in the long term.
I think I've been lucky with my picks , very difficult to maintain that ROI.
Looking at my own stats my record since Nov 2016 on my top picks 484 selections 120 winners, ROI 30.5%
And on all my selections 393 winners from 1668 bets, ROI 18.7%.
    Good luck to everyone

I think PSV holds value, they started winning their local league and mostly the team have a lot of young and eager players, the thing is that the draw would not be seeing as such a bad results with the second leg at home. Yet I feel they have an edge, also on form Hirving Lozano has started with two goals, one in each match, and for sure will look to continue showing his quality, in this that will be his debut in Champions League and made up for an regular World Cup.
I agree with @StevieDay1983 with regards that Benfica will get the win, but the odd is very low for the home win, and meanwhile is true that PAOK has deserved to get to this stage, it is up to see how he will handle the multiples options in front that Benfica can throw at them. Fortunately for PAOK, Benfica reinforcement Nicolas Castillo is out, but still Benfica has plenty of scoring options. I prefer just to watch the match.

I clearly understand it @StevieDay1983! And the benefit/reward of that is a very attractive odd.
Also I think taking that challenges helps to improve and fine tuned our abilities. Still I prefer sometimes to avoid certain matches and focus on some others where I see a greater probability.
You are right about that feeling, getting it right is just superb, actually thats what I enjoy more that the actual profit, and also why the defeats come harder, and more if they are because of a late goal or something else crazy, the analysis was spot on, but luck is something funny.

I am fancying Ipswich Town with asian handicap, As @StevieDay1983 have stated Frank Lampard does not seem fit for the job at Derby. And besides the away win at the opener, in the next two matches has been able to at least draw, despite scoring in all of them. The win in EFL Cup smooth things, but the double header against Hull City (EFL CUP and Championship) might proved to much, and more because Hull City are winless to his moment. The ELO Ratings back the away win also, so that might be something.
I agree with @Stevecw that Rotherdam is looking good, and there also I would take the asian handicap, because meanwhile Hull City have not won ,they have gotten two away draws and remains unbeaten at away. Together with the ELO Rating is with Hull City, so for me the asian handicap covers in this case.
Leeds start has been superb with four wins, three in Championship and one in EFL Cup, yet Swansea at home might break that positive streak, might it win the match, that is something else.  There was a post somewhere about the performance of the relegated in the championship, therefore I would prefer to avoid this match.

    Benfica vs PAOK Saloniki
The first legs of the Champions League Play-Off Round are always tough ones to call because every club left in it has reached this stage deservedly. The minnows are out and all that is left are the strong teams and the hard-working underdogs. In this game, Portuguese giants Benfica welcome Greek outfit PAOK Saloniki in an 8pm kick-off this Tuesday at the Estadio da Luz.
Rui Vitoria's side squeaked through a tough two-legged encounter with Turkish side Fenerbahce with a 2-1 aggregate win. It was proof that Benfica are a side that could cause problems for anyone in this year's competition. Their domestic form of two wins from their opening two matches have also shown the club remains solid and consistent. Even if things did get a bit nerve-wracking in their opening day 3-2 home win over Vitoria de Guimaraes after surrendering a three goal lead.
PAOK Saloniki are one of those sides you simply cannot count out. Razvan Lucescu has set up his team to be tough to beat. That was epitomised by their 5-1 destruction of Basel and then the tight 3-2 win over Spartak Moscow in their previous rounds. The fact that their domestic season hasn't even started yet shows that they are surpassing all expectations.
One player stands out as one to watch here and it is 21 year old centre back Ruben Dias. The Portuguese starlet burst onto the scene for his national side at this summer's World Cup and he looks like a future captain in the making. His commanding performances have been wise beyond his years and if he continues to lead by example then Benfica will be a hard team to score past this season.
I'm expecting PAOK to put up a really strong fight here. I just think Benfica at home will have enough to get the win. I can see them keeping a clean sheet. I was tempted to back a -1 handicap but I'm not sold on how easy PAOK will be to score against. They possess a back-line that has kept two clean sheets in their previous two away trips in this competition.

    Hey Stevie,

I wouldn't recommend an odd at about @1.5 for an away win in DFB-Cup when a team from 2. Bundesliga plays against a fourth tier team. As a Dynamo Supporter myself I see an possible upset spot for Dynamo in this game. Of course, there is a clear gap in quality between the clubs, but Dynamo had a difficult last season and I don't  have the feeling this season will be different. We had discussions about the system, coach Neuhaus has lost authority because of strange decisions even though he hasn't been fired yet. It's all in all a shaky situation and we had problems against a fourth tier league club ( Koblenz and they got relegated at the end of the season ) in the first round of DFB-Cup last year, winning 3-2 even it wasn't a real away match ( neutral ground near Dresden ). I have not much to say about Rödinghausen beside the statistics everyone can look up themselves. Match is played on neutral ground near Rödinghausen.
Even though Dynamo should win in regular time, it's not a good decision to take them at these odds in my opinion. Asian Handicap +1.5 was good under the week. Now it's +1.25 and I'm not sure about that. But I just wanted to add my opinion, so everyone can learn about leagues one is not 100% familiar with.

Second leg of the Voyageurs Cup final:
Toronto FC - Vancouver Whitecaps (2:2 after the first leg)
In the first leg the Whitecaps had to play the second half with 10 men after Felipe Martins got a red card. HT score was 1:1, Vancouver somehow took a 2:1 but Doneil Henry scored an own goal (and apparently broke his wrist in frustration) in the 88th minute to make it a 2:2 draw.
Toronto are heavy favourites to win the second leg - 1.53 with pinnacle. There are a few good reasons for this. It's a home game for them, they should feel more comfortable at their own field and it's a long flight for Vancouver. Toronto players Sebastian Giovinco, Gregory van der Wiel and Victor Vazquez did not travel to Vancouver for the first leg but now they are available (Vazquez might be injured) - 3 key players, they should boost the home team. Vancouver have injury troubles - Jose Aja and Jordon Mutch are out; star player Alphonso Davies, Doneil Henry and Brett Levis are game-day decisions; Felipe Martins serves out his red card ban. If the 3 questionable players are not available, Vancouver will have to start with one of their inexperienced Canadian players (they must start with 3 Canadians - Russel Teibert and Marcel De Jong  are regular starters).
Both teams have had a congested schedule for the past few weeks - they played the first leg in the middle of last week and then had their regular MLS matches over the weekend. Chris Mavinga and Jozy Altidore will miss the next MLS game for Toronto, so they should play as many minutes as possible today and get a rest over the weekend. The coach of Vancouver mentioned that he may rest a couple of players - he often rotates striker Kamara, who played in the last 2 matches (but was substituted in both) but he will probably use him again today.
On the other hand, Vancouver are in great form - they have won 3 of their last 5 matches (including an away win at Portland, which is a tough place to visit) and they have drawn the other 2 games (including an away draw at New York City, you don't get many points there).
So yes, I agree that Toronto are favourites but I don't see much value in the odds offered. The draw is available at 4.5 with pinnacle and it's not a bad option since Toronto will win the cup with a 0:0 or 1:1 draw. A 2:2 draw will call for extra time and potentially for penalties.
I will wait for the starting lineups before I place any bets but I don't expect good opportunities for high-stake bets.

With regards to Valencia, I would prefer to avoid that match.  Valencia has shown it is capable of the best but also of the worst. The most powerful argument for them, last season scoreless draw in Mestalla against Atletico de Madrid and the 2-2 draw against Real Madrid in Bernabue. But also the worst, the defeat against Las Palmas.
With Valencia of two or three seasons ago clearly Atletico de Madrid will have the edge, as Valencia was in a poor shape, but with the display of last season, which brought a return of the Valencia of the start of the century, where they even reached Champions League finals, I find it hard to believe on the away team, even after the display against Real Madrid.
Agreed the value will lay with Sevilla thanks to that superb display, the question is are they able to pull that again when Rayo Vallecano is clearly to be focused on defense? What I mean it was a great effort against Barca, will it not leave any repercussion? or they were clearly prepared for that?.  Just some thoughts.

As always, Good analysis @StevieDay1983 ! And great picks. I personally fancied Real Madrid but 0 AH, therefore void. Still Real Madrid was ahead, some post match thoughts:
    - Would Thibaut Courtois had been able to do more in Diego Costa goals?
    - It was just like karma when Atletico was able to take the lead in the extra time, like making up for the lost Champions League final against Real Madrid.  Some would argue that only in the same set, a CL finals that would be consider like revenge. Still just curious how things unfold.

    Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid
The 2018 UEFA Super Cup will see a Madrid derby between Champions League winners Real Madrid and Europa League champions Atletico Madrid in a game that is set to be played this Wednesday in an 8pm kick-off at the A. Le Coq Arena in Tallinn, Estonia.
This game summarises how superior the La Liga clubs are in European competition right now. The fact that this is Real Madrid's third consecutive appearance in this show piece event is a remarkable achievement. It is their sixth appearance in total and they have won on four occasions.
Real Madrid are entering a new era under Julen Lopetegui. After the chaos that his departure from the Spain national team job caused at the World Cup this summer, he has not exactly kept his head in the sand with the high-profile departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and the hugely controversial signing of former Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. The signings of defender Alvaro Odriozola and attacker Vinicius Junior have also seen fans murmur both positive and negative sounds about the new head coach.
Things are slightly more settled with Atletico Madrid. Diego Simeone remains in charge for his eighth consecutive season with the club. The double signing of Thomas Lemar and Rodri has set tongues wagging about how this could be the season that Atletico finally win their first La Liga title since 2014. The departure of Kevin Gameiro is unlikely to dampen the optimism.
It's always hard to tell how these semi-competitive games will go. I just have a feeling that the familiarity and experience that Simeone has with his players could well trump the fresh ideas of Lopetegui. The jury are still out on the former goalkeeper as a manager despite the early signs proving encouraging. The Real Madrid job is one that can often be the fall of many a talented manager. Has he taken it on too early?
I really do fancy Atletico here. Losing Ronaldo is huge. He bailed them out a lot of times over the past few years. The idea that Gareth Bale will simply slot in and replace Ronaldo as the star man is outrageous. As good as Bale is, it's impossible to replace one of the greatest players of all-time let alone expect instant results as well. If Lopetegui doesn't manage this Real team brilliantly they could be in for a tough season.

    Angers vs Nimes
    2018, August 11, 20:00 hrs (CET Time)
    Ligue 1
In this match Angers SCO faces Nimes, recently promoted from Ligue 2.
The Angers SCO preseason could be considered worrisome because they did not win a match, their rivals of the last three games were foreign teams, the Spanish Villareal, and the English West Ham United and Schalke 04, so considering that the level is higher it was an interesting challenges for the team. Angers could only score against the Villarreal. Given this cause, it would be a regular pre-season, which when returning home would give an advantage because they were challenged to play better.
Angers will be with out  Puyo and Ketkeophomphone due to injuries. Additionally, it should be considered that the team was one of those who tied the most last season, that in the end those points were important to avoid relegation, so the team knows how to stay focused during the match.
For its part, Nimes prepared its return to Ligue 1 with matches against national teams, facing one of its direct rivals to avoid relegation, like Toulouse, which remained in Ligue 1 after winning the relegation playoff, achieving a draw without goals. The last friendly lost to Guingamp. Like Angers closed the preseason fighting to score.
An interesting game to open the season, which seems will be tight, and because it is the start of the season and the newly promoted could at some point give a surprise, we go with a medium-low stake in favor of the home team. Because although Angers did not win in the preseason, his rivals were of better level, additionally that at home it will be easier for them to score.
