  1. Re: The Jockey Thread Another good rode by Tom Queally this time on Midday to win the Gr1 Nassau , rode with patience kicking on in the latter stages . Also yesterday winning a Gr3 on Chachamaidee again riding with plenty of patience. Seems to be riding with a lot more confidence after a few seemingly mistimed rides rides in the early part of the season. I have absolutely no doubt he will become a top jockey within a few short years. Well done Tom.

  2. Re: Thursday Discussion Multiply the number of placed horses in each leg together ,same as the way you worked out the 32 line bet. Whatever that number is , multiply that by 50p which tells you the total value of your lines. If it was £1.50 then multiply £1.50 by £761.40.

  3. Re: Owner strike rates

Ellison has a lot to do with the Koo Racing Club (green and brown colours) that is operated by a professional gamble and the Ellison yard generally have a sound record of landing gambles! Very interesting post erhaab, personally havnt got any stories not been in the game long enough to pick up on such things but often these conicidences are just that and some are planned
K Strangeways the racing manager for the club as mentioned by Tabby , won 1/4 million on Betfair by backing at horse after the commenator said it had wrongly fallen.
  4. Re: Owner strike rates Jay you are right in your theory that some owners have a better strike rate at certain tracks . Reasons for this may include having lucky results thus becoming their favorite track and residing to close proximity to the venue. I do find that it is hard to gauge whether a particular horse is going to win at the owners track. You do need inside information like whether they are going to be present on the day( not all owners watch all their horses ) , whether they are gamblers ( a Tabor or an Arab ) , etc. It is a good and correct theory but to ascertain information other than form makes it a theory hard to exploit. One particular theory i have kept to myself over the years is external events connected to the connections as opposed to form. Some of them are easy to spot if you follow the current affairs of horse racing. It is astonishing how trainers can simply turn on the win switch on horses regardless of stable/horse form. Few examples : Death , if an owner dies their next runners often win . Examples include Robert Sangster , Maktoum al Maktoum , Queen Mother , Lord Weinstock notably Golan winning the King George a couple days after his death. More recently the owner of a horse called Casino Night who died the day before his horse pissed it at Hamilton a couple of months back. Retirement races , a higher than avarage strike rate when jockeys or trainers are having their last runner. Sometimes the fellow jockeys allow the retiring jockey is steal their last race , examples include Grand National winning jockey Neale Doughty they allowed him lead start to finish ,Graham Bradley ( bent jockey in my opionion , who announced his retirement straight after the race , so doesn't quite count ) , Jenny Pitman's "Queen of Aintree" last Aintree runner in the colours of Robert Hitchens absolutely pissed it under Richard Dunwoody. Not a concreate theory cos sometimes the jockeys fluff their lines like Dale Gibsons last ride. Marraige , very recent i'm sure even the younger members on here will know that the Josh Gifford trained horse " Royal Wedding " won on the day of Will's and Kate's wedding at 4/1 ish. Frankie's magnificent 7 back in the 90s , a combination of good rides with a touch of nepotism , his final few rides on that day the fellow jockeys must have taken a pull or not ridden to their best ( only my opinion ), only jockey trying was Pat Eddery on the K Abdulla horse Benfleet who came second to Frankie's 7th winner Fujiyama Crest. If you can watch a replay you will see Eddery trying his utmost to foil Frankie's 7 timer , one of the hardest rides i can recall Eddery giving ( possibly through jealousy ). the other jockeys allowed a walk Dettori. Landmark rides , 1000th winner , 2000th etc. In the 90s Pat Eddery was on 3999 winners during August. I said to my punting partner Eddery's going to handbrake all his horses for 2 weeks and then get the 4000th in the St Ledger. 4000th winner J Dunlop trained Silver Patriarch in the St Ledger. He does not have a single ride afterwards until the following season. I can come up with more examples but a drinking phase during the 2000s left my recollection of that era a litttle blurry. Anybody else any stories ?

  5. Re: Who's the Daddy ? No excuses , Richard Hannon claimed in the post race interview that he does not handle Goodwood but surely that is just an excuse , cos CC won it last year. CC is a classy horse but i think Frankel is a potential superstar. Another win in the same manner , maybe over a longer distance and against a field of true Gr1 performers will confirm his superstar status. Thrilled Frankel pissed it today especially for Tom Queally since he's been lambasted quite a few times in recent months for a few rides including his win in the St James's Palace Stakes. I'm almost certain he will become a top class jockey within the next few years . Well done Tom.

  6. Re: Tuesday Discussion

Hi guys, Would it be ok to start a thread up for general chat about the days racing? rather than ruining the tipping threads. Arlequin just won the first race at Goodwood, I suppose Modun was one to take out the race?
Lord Wienstock nearly had a treble within half an hour , two close seconds at Goodwood and a winner sandwiched inbetween at Beverley. Free bagels in heaven had it came in.
  7. Re: Hayley Moore Yes . hes the one. Sounds like he's got half a trifle stuck in his throat , also when theres a duel to the finish hes often lost for puns at the crucial moment. I'd prefer to listen to Hayley Moore if im being honest.

  8. It is the 3rd day of the King George meeting at Ascot today and the card looks ordinary , no decent handicap or a pattern race. Why don't they spread out the decent races over the 3 days , thats what i would do if i was in charge . Its sunday today when most of us not working , but there looks to be no attraction today.

  9. Re: Rewilding

Oh they did, 3 times from 3 different angles; incl. Chapman doing the "look away now". It was one the more horrific ones i have seen, RIP Rewilding.
How can seeing that be one of the more horrific things you've seen ? Visually it looks like a horse stumbling , we see that all the time in races especially in National Hunt racing. It is only afterwards we heard what extent was the injury. Sound a little pretentious to me when i hear that sort of thing concerning racehorses. Seeing a human being decapitated in a movie to me can apear horrific , but a horse stumbling does not.
  10. Re: Hayley Moore

As Ive said on here before neither of them should be allowed an opportunity like this. Quite a few of the commentators on the roster at the moment arent even allowed to call at Ascot so why should two terrible ones? As for Gary he nearly blew his chances a couple of years back but hes been given his chance again and will probably get on at some stage.
Disagree , they should be allowed an opportunity , i dont see why not. It is for a place on the training scheme which after 18 months if they are good enough they may get a chance to get a job somewhere. Based on what i heard they were not too good but that however should not deny them a chance of becoming good and making a success out of it.
  11. Re: Rewilding

RIP very very sad incident (if im not mistaken 2nd top class GoDolphin horse dead in recent times at Ascot??) As far as being able to save Rewilding, from my work with horses and many farm animals the animals welfare has to come first and these animals are just not able to cope with such intensive treatment most of the time being stuffed in a box and the severe pain for prolonged period! http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100220072934AAbs7Sv
I tanked Godolphin's Veracity in a Ascot Gold Cup a few years back which was destroyed , think thats who you meant.
  12. Re: Would you take Workforce @ 7/4?

I don't understand what Ajtebi was doing? He was put in the race purely to set a good pace and he did the complete opposite!
I thought they were brilliant tactics , but unfortunately Rewilding broke his leg. They employed the same tactics to win a Coronation Cup back in the 90s , Central Park ( Gr1 winning pacemaker for Godolphin ) set a false pace to allow potential non stayer Daylami to come off the slow pace and piss it.
  13. After the King George he suggested Workforce should stick to left handed tracks because he doesn't handle right handed tracks. What utter rubbish the BBC are serving us ,he occassionally talks crap and today was a prime example. What was he thinking , what about the Arc ????
