  1. Re: Summer Jumping What i do think is dangerous is during the winter when frozen courses have multiple inspections during the morning in the hope that the temperature goes one degree above zero!! This is in my opinion is just greed and not in the best interest of both horses and jockeys. So much credability is lost when a meeting is abandoned well after the start time of the first race.

  2. Re: Summer Jumping

Ever wondered why they did not have Summer Jump racing in the past? Because it was thought to be too dangerous.
Where have you actually read this ? In over 20 years of following racing i've never heard a serious debate about this topic. A reason AP McCoy would like a reducton in summer jumps is because the seasons are literally back to back. When the season finishes the next season starts the very next day!! The is little opportunity for him to take a long break , unlike the flat jockeys where they can choose to take a few months break. In regard to the "bloody" horses which jump the fences.Yes i know its the horses which do the jumping. But its the jockeys which do the controlling and steering. The statistic about current jockeys falling more than past jockeys is reiterated by a former top jockey , unfortunately i cant remember much other than i read it in the last year. One thing i remember about it is that the jockey says the technique used by todays jockeys is different to in his day which may be a contributing factor to the fall rate. I personally am not a fan of summer jumps and think here is to much racing at the moment , however to suggest it should be banned because it is too dangerous is pretty flawed.
  3. Re: Summer Jumping There has been no mention of banning summer jumping by those in the industry , only by a few on here. If there was a real concern within the industry then we would have heard about them years ago.You don't hear jockeys refusing rides because the ground is riding fast. In the early 90s they did ban all weather jumps because of the loss of equine and human life.Over turf i think it is more due to the fact that jockeys today are not as good over fences than jockeys in the past. This was highlighted in a report somewhere.Sorry can't remember where i read it , but basically it said that there were fewer fallers in the past than there is today.

  4. Re: BHA bearing its teeth at last I spent a few months in Hong Kong during the late 90s.During the winter months a very small handful of top jockeys in Europe are given short contracts to ride for a few weeks /months. These included K Fallon , L Dettori and J Weaver. I was surprised to see J Quinn a low grade journeyman allweather jockey out riding there in HK. I asked a friend why he had been selected and allegedly it was T Quinn the multiple Group 1 and classic winning jockey that they really wanted . English being the a foreign language they confused the J with the T , and unfortunately they got Jimmy instead of Richard. When J Quinn was caught out they kicked him out of HK. This is how it was explained to me by my friend , it may have been reported differently by the Racing Post / Sporting Life but i wasn't here to read the reported version.

  5. Re: Summer Jumping What is the logic behind banning summer jumping ? No one is calling for a ban. It caters for horses which prefer quicker conditions. Also it gives the smaller yards the chance to win races and pick up prizes money whilst the more powerful yards are having their summer break.P Bowen has benefited immensely in recent summers as an example. Althougth saying that P Nicholls in the last cople of years has begun running a few during the summer , whereas he traditionally begun his season in mid October.

  6. Re: BHA bearing its teeth at last I think its great that this action has been taken. It is a sign that the sport is being cleaned up.Everyone knows there is corruption within horseracing from the top to the very bottom , so i applaud when has recently taken place. A few posters on here seem shocked by seeing Milzarek's name appear because she is a good jockey and saying she wouldn't do such a thing.I think this is niave and you may have the picture clouded because she is a beautiful young lady. How are we to know what shes like out of the public eye and what her actual character is.I'm not in anyway suggesting she is guilty or innocent. Her partner is K Fallon and we all know what he may have got away with. I forward to seeing the conclusion of this episode and hope positive action is taken.

  7. It was disappointing to see him pulled up today at Punchestown , hope hes fine ,i think the Punchestown meeting in May is not ideal for him as he's been on the go since the begining of the British jumps season. I hope to see him fit and well for the forthcomming jumps season this autumn im sure theres a few more season left in him despite being 11 this year.If i owned him i would have a crack at some of the decent handicaps like the Henessy Gold Cup ,Welsh National , Grand National and the Whitbread as im sure a drop in the handicap is due. Instead of the Cheltenham Gold Cup where he cannot be competitive maybe try the Foxhunters route , where he could take it down for the next few years.

  8. For the last year in one of my local W Hill shops , they've displayed Tote Double/Treble slips alongside the other Tote betting slips. On the reverse it explains that each day there is a nominated double and treble via the Tote pools with available stakes just like other Tote bets. Anybody know anything about this bet? There doesn't seem to be any information anywhere about this bet. The last two new bets the Tote introduced , the Super 7 and Swinger don't seem to perform at all well , hardly anything is bet into those pools.

  9. Re: Wanted !! tricast/trifecta staking plan. The supporting races on Grand National day had trifecta pools of between £2k and £11k whereas the rollover race the Grand National had £126k with only 20 winning units paying £4.7k compared to £1.9k for the tricast. Massive value in the rollover trifecta race each saturday , for some strange reason there is no promotion even though the pools from over 20 unwon/part won trifectas from midweek are rolledover into this one each saturday.

  10. Re: Why are horses not fit enough for their targets ? I wasn't specifically refering to Wotton Basset just using him as an example , i just dont understand why horses will need the run when punters are waging bet on them. They should be fit for the job or not race at all. Back in the 90s John Gosdens horses would always need the run and that was always reflected in the betting , but now he has many first timeout winners , which is the way it should be. Look at State of Play trained by Evan Williams for the Grand National , his previous race was the previous Grand National and this year he got placed again , which goes to show you don't need a recent run to be race fit. I appologise to anyone that trains horses if this sounds like a crock of horse manure , just my opinion.

  11. I dont know anything about training horses but why do some horses miss their intended targets through lack of fitness. In todays age of all weather gallops can anyone explain why they cannot get fit. There are many examples each year , most recently Wooton Basset R Fahey's 2000 Guineas contender , hes had over half a year to prepare yet with 2 weeks to go he states hes missed 2 weeks work. If i was training for next years Olympic games , there would be no excuse for turning up out of shape ,so why is it applicable to horses? Genuine question

  12. Re: "WINNING IT BACK"...FICTION BOOK ? Occassionally you hear Gary Witshire on BBC racing or McCrirrick on C4 that the bookies are having a terrible day and the punters are in front. Is there any truth in that or are they trying to perpetuate a myth that bookies do actually lose sometimes. Say a 4/5 "banker" has just won in a 16 runner field race , have they actually lost overall? Of course they have taken plenty of hefty bets esecially at odds on , but what about the bets they've taken on the losing 2nd and 3rd favourites.Surely at only 4/5 the losing bets more than pay for the winner. And what about those smaller staking punters who go for bigger priced horses at double figure odds. I personally think its a load of cobblers when bookies or ex bookies say its been a terrible day for them. I think this is even more true when refering to the betting shops. How many small staking punters nationwide combine 4 outsiders in a lucky 15 , the rare times i indulge in this bet i usually put in hot favorites and i come up trumps (4 out of 4) less than 10% of the time. Those betting outsiders would have less than 1% chance i would imagine. Back to the book , i suppose it would be a fun book to read with lots of fiction inserted to make it interesting.

  13. I am looking for a netbook specifically for Betfair when i'm out of the house or in the bookies. I've seen one at PC World @ £220 with 1GB of RAM , would this be sufficient to use for laying horses whilst in the bookies ? Would it be ok for watching the "live streaming" on bookie websites and also Racing UK on the Racing Post website ? Anyone reccommend a specific model ? thanks

  14. Been following the tote trifecta rollerover race for a few years now can have a shot quite regularly. Any trifecta pool which is not won is carried forward to a specified race each saturday and the pool gets quite big once the big players get stuck in.Its strange that there is no media reference to it even by the tote.I think its a gem of a bet which the pros keep to themselves. This past saturday in the big race Uttoxeter the pool reached £177,000 with the rollover money , paying over £6k compared to £2.5k for the tricast. The normal midweek pool barely exceeds over £500 so is often not won and carried frward to each saturdays big race. Anybody know of a staking plan for this race i often do 400 to 700 lines @ 10p costing £70 which is quite expensive but pays well when i hit.

  15. Re: C4 thread Lesley Grahams post race interview with Nicky Henderson had her with a massive false grin on her face. She tried to look ecstatic like she does with every winner. It would have been the same face had it been 66/1 shot Carruthers. What a phoney !

  17. Re: Best offers for Cheltenham ? Opened quite a few new accounts ready for cheltenham.Quite a few generous offers at the moment like Paddy Power free £100. Question , is Sportingbet a reputable bookie ? They're offering £50 free with £50 deposit. Question 2 , Totesport are offering free £10 bet following first £10 bet which seems a little small compared to the other firms. Are they likely to increase their offer during cheltenham week?
