  1. Re: Meydan 4th Feb (Dubai) Is anyone excited by the Carnival ? I don't mind watching when it's on telly but I'm not going to bother looking at the form - there's enough AW racing here to keep me busy without wondering about Brazilian sprint handicappers...........:unsure I might make a point of catching the group races though

  2. Re: lay of the day - wed 3rd feb 5.00 Kemp - Bull Market - place lay Currently showing as second favourite - I don't think this one will be suited by the drop back to 10 furlongs He's never won over shorter than 11 furlongs He did run well last time to bustle up serial winner Shadows Lengthen, but that was over the extended 12F at Wolves and he's gone up a couple of pounds for finishing second He's also been off the track for over two months and has no record of going well fresh. Trainer hasn't had a winner this season ( Life definition of 'season' - I think it means since Jan 1st ?)

  3. Re: Kempton 3rd Feb (AW) (Twilight) 7.00 BA Jetstream - EW Currently available at 50/1 with Bet365 and others This looks a poor race and BA is probably a poor horse, yet I've got him top rated on my speed figs !...........:loon He's formerly with Mick Channon and was bought out of a Seller by current connections. He's been running over 7/8 furlongs and earning comments like 'weakened 1 out' over 7F and 'weakened 2 out' over 8F. Maybe he just needs to run at 6 furlongs ! He's had nearly 2 months off which I lke with these poor horses because he's had a chance to leave his previous form behind. I think that's better than a horse that ran last week and finished last where's there's not enough time to work on him. Also - Joe Fanning booked for the ride and he's going for the Jockeys title !

  4. Re: Kempton 3rd Feb (AW) (Twilight) 6.30 - Danger Mullaly - win Only 3 runners All of them are stepping up in trip so there's a lot of doubt around which one will be best suited I reckon it's worth going with the outsider of the 3 The other two ran against each other last time and there's nothing between them with the small weights turnaround today. The Johnston horse is bound to be poor value, just because he's a Johnston horse - if he should be Evens he'll go off at 2/1 on............ Danger Mullaly has a lot going for him - he's the only Course winner of the three, he's the most stoutly bred and should improve for the extra distance. I've also got him top on speed ratings. I guess it's bound to be tactical and the Johnston will probably try and make all at a slowish pace. I hope the other jocks realise that they have to hassle him and not let him steal it

  5. Re: Kempton 3rd Feb (AW) (Twilight) 5.00 Kemp - Dream Of Fortune - win Won a similar handicap over CD last time out in a good fast time. Has gone up 4 lbs for a 1 length win which seems fair enough as he won with something in hand, coming from the back and running wide round the bend. Main thing is though that not many of the other runners today look like 10 furlong horses, they either seem to want further or have only won up to a mile. He's the only CD winner in the field Before he won that handicap last time he'd been running well in sellers and claimers - got to keep your eye on that Selling/Claiming form nowadays !

  6. Re: Best bet of the day 3rd Feb 5.00 Kemp - Dream Of Fortune - 1 pt win @ 4/1 (Skybet, Betfred, Blue Sq) Won a similar handicap over CD last time out in a good fast time. Has gone up 4 lbs for a 1 length win which seems fair enough as he won with something in hand, coming from the back and running wide round the bend. Main thing is though that not many of the other runners today look like 10 furlong horses, they either seem to want further or have only won up to a mile. He's the only CD winner in the field

  7. Re: Lay Of The Day 2nd February Sou 3.00 - Dig Deep - place lay Only 2 places up for grabs in the Claimer and Dig Deep heads the official ratings. He's also run well here in a better grade. So it's not cut and dried that he won't get placed. But his last 2 runs have been very poor and he's clearly out of sorts at the moment. His last outing was only 4 days ago so not much time to work on him A few of his rivals today go well here and even a couple of those a long way behind in the ratings at least look 'up for it'..........

  8. Re: Best bet of the day 1st Feb 4.50 Wolv - Just Timmy Marcus - EW @ 22/1 Wm Hill Bit of a hunch for this one - has a good course record with all 5 of his wins and places coming here. He's pretty lightly raced compared to most of these and might have some improvement to come I like the fact that he's gone off as favourite twice here in handicaps recently and although he didn't win, it tells me that somebody must think something of him

  9. Re: Lay of the day 1st Feb 3.15 Wolv - Magenta Strait - place lay Only 2 places up for grabs in this 7 runner Claiming race. Magenta has good course form and is a CD winner and has also won here over 5 furlongs. Both those wins have come in Sellers and this looks tougher I also think that 6 furlongs might find her out in better company as she is very sprint bred and some of these have more stamina. Two are stepping back from 7F and might well improve at this shorter trip She's got poor speed figs and I had her as the outsider of the field, which is probably too harsh, but I don't think she'll be in the first two.

  10. Re: Lay Of The Day Tables ~ January & Rules Well done DM99.........and hard luck, Fin Thanks to BH for the terrific admin ! Must say that I've thoroughly enjoyed this first month's comp and agree with Fin that's it's a lot harder than backing !..........:unsure That sinking feeling when one of your Lays wins the race and you know it's gonna take 4 or 5 successful bets to get your point back..........:loon Fairly late into the month I cottoned on to the concept of 'place lays' and I think that might be the way to go..........I'm a bit new to this whole laying malarky.

  11. Re: Kempton 31st It was a very slow run race, nearly 4 seconds above standard, which is shocking for a class 2 over 6 furlongs You'd think that the speediest horse would win in what turns into a 2 furlong sprint, but Eddie 'The Shoe' said on RUK that he'd noticed that stamina often wins out in those kind of races. it's counter to logic, but that's what he said !

  12. Re: lay of the day sun - 31st jan 3.55 Kemp - Aeroplane - win lay Having his 7th run this month and there were signs last time that his schedule is catching up with him as he struggled in the rear and never mounted his customery late challenge Also in his fairly long career he's never won over 6 furlongs and arguably his best recent performances have come when he's stepped up to 8 furlongs - todays trip in a small field doesn't look conducive to him showing his best He's quite a bit clear on official ratings so should go off at a reasonably short price

  13. Re: Best Bet Of The Day 31st January Kemp 4.25 - Khanivorous - win Won it's maiden over this CD then ran in a hot looking mile handicap next and finished 5th. Apart from the rag that finished tailed off every horse from that race that has run since has won, the winner, 4th and 6th. Handicapper has dropped him 3 lbs and dropping back to 7 furlongs he has a great chance.

  14. Re: Kempton 31st At last we get to a big field handicap ! 4.25 - Prince Rossi - EW CD winner who comes here after a 7 month lay off. He did win here last year on his return from a long break and I like a pattern like that. He went on to win again here then won two races at chepstow before tailing off for the season. Hope the break will have freshened him up and that he's fit enough His 4 wins last year saw him climb from a class 7 to a class 5 and although he's now a 6YO, he's relatively lightly raced for that age with 29 career runs.

  15. Re: Kempton 31st 3.55 - Fathsta - win Strange looking race this one - I have all the other horses apart from Fathsta as better over 7 furlongs. And he is the only CD winner in the field. He generally goes well here - his last 2 runs over this CD I have him recording solid class 2/3 speed figs In a small field I reckon it's safest to go with the one with 6 furlong speed. 4.25 - Khanivorous - win Won it's maiden over this CD then ran in a hot looking mile handicap next and finished 5th. Apart from the rag that finished tailed off every horse from that race that has run since has won, the winner, 4th and 6th. Handicapper has dropped him 3 lbs and dropping back to 7 furlongs he has a great chance.

  16. Re: Kempton 31st Not very keen on all these small field races but at least they don't take long to look at ! 2.25 - The Strig - win Got this one miles clear on my speed figs. If i don't pick horses like this then there's no point spending time compiling them. Straightforward choice but the small field makes it a bit of a lottery as it could be a false run race in a slow time which would make speed figs a bit redundant 2.55 - Papagino - win I'd like to go EW on this one even if there had been only 5 runners, but with 4 runners it's got to be a win. Outsider of the field currently showing at a best price 18/1. I liked it's last run coming back from a 2 month break and well there until fading in the final furlong. If it's strips fitter today should have a great chance on a track where it's recorded a good speed fig in the past. It's the speediest bred of the 4 runers and could have the edge if it turns into a 2 furlong sprint which is quite likely with just 4 runners 3.25 - Dvinsky - win Great chance for the old boy to notch up another win. He's been in generally good form if not quite able to win from his handicap mark. This looks lke his ideal conditions today - small field, can get to the front and dictate the pace

  17. Re: Best bet of the day 30th Jan 4.25 Ling - Resentful Angel - win I like the look of Resentful Angel here - it's last run wasn't great but prior to that had finished 2nd to a decent type in Giant Sequioa and before that had a couple of wins and a third. Has won over CD. Despite being a 5YO has only had 16 career runs and might still be on the upgrade.

  18. Re: Lay Of The Day Selections ~ Jan 30th 2.45 Ling - The Scorching Wind - place lay This one could well go off as favourite but it's a very competitive race and I'm willing to take the chance that the handicapper has got this one now. He's 13 lbs higher than his last win and went up 3 lbs for being placed last time. He's only run here once and didn't handle the bend very well. He rallied and still finished 2nd, but still it's a worry for his backers. He's obviously a decent and progressive type but there are a few similar types in the race - it's wide open

  19. Re: Lingfield 30th Jan (AW) 4.25 I like the look of Resentful Angel here - it's last run wasn't great but prior to that had finished 2nd to a decent type in Giant Sequioa and before that had a couple of wins and a third. Has won over CD. Despite being a 5YO has only had 16 career runs and might still be on the upgrade. For a big odds EW shot - Make Amends looks big at around 25/1. he won a race two outings ago then finished 10th behind Vinces over CD. But he was only beaten 3 and a bit lengths and is 3 lbs better off today. Given that Vinces is currently 11/4 Fav, then 25/1 looks big Win - Resentful Angel EW - Make Amends
