  1. Re: Southwell Feb 10th (AW/Bumpers) 1.30 Special Cuvee - win Looks like a 2 horse race and this small field probably won't suit Castle Myth as he tends to get behind then finish strongly. He wouldn't want to be getting a long way behind if they're crawling along Special cuvee usually runs pretty well here and is a long way clear on the speed figs.

  2. Re: Southwell Feb 10th (AW/Bumpers) 2.05 Pawan - win Only 4 runners here and it make be worth taking a chance on the outsider Excellent and Indian have no real course form, Indian looks like he wants further, Colorus is out of form............process of elimination leaves Pawan He's not really in great form either but he does tend to run his races here and his record is skewed as Miss Stokell often put up lots of overweight, But with him set to cary 9 stone today and with her 5lb claim he might well be running off his correct mark today

  3. Re: Lay of the Day 9th February 3.50 Southwell - Onceuponatime - win lay Has won a couple of races recently and gone up in the weights. Reckon the handicapper has 'got him' for now, although he's finished close up in his last couple of races he hasn't looked like winning. Up in class as well today and another pound wrong from out of the handicap. Could do with this one getting beat as my confidence has been shattered by two losing picks on the trot.............:loon

  4. Re: Best bet of the day 9th Feb 2.20 Southwell - Sandy Toes - ew @ 28/1 with Skybet Poor race and this one hasn't obviously got a lot going for it. Think it might run better than it's odds for a few reasons...... - it's a gelding in a field full of fillies, might just be bigger and tougher - it has some course experience - trainer in decent form - it's got the 'sprintiest' stamina figure in the field - it's name 'Sandy Toes' - they obviously think it should go well at Southwell !...........:tongue2

  5. Re: Best bet of the day 8th Feb 3.30 Wolv - Ishiadancer - win This one drops down to a class 5 after running in class 4 and class 3 races without success. Has a good record at this level with a win, 2nd and 3rd in his last 3 runs in the grade. He is one of 3 out and out front runners in the field and it's tempting to think that they'll cut each others throats and leave the race open to something coming from behind But I think my selection seems a bit more amenable to being held up and I reckon he'll sit behind the other two and let them scrap it out, then be in pole position for first run up the straight

  6. Re: Lay of the day 8th Feb 3.30 Wolv - Smalljohn - win lay This horse is in cracking form, no doubt about that. I think the race he won last time fell into his lap with an uncontested lead, he stole the race from the front Today is tougher - he has a 6 lb penalty for a start but more importantly there are a couple of other front runners in the field and i don't think he'll get it all his own way His speed figs are poor so I think he can probably only win slow run races and I don't think today will be slow.

  7. Re: Best Bet Of The Day 7th Feb 1.40 Southwell - General Tufto - win Ran pretty well last time to finish 3rd over 11 furlongs here, but his best recent form has been at a mile and he returns to the trip today Race could be set up for a horse with a bit of stamina on his side as Ansells pride will try to ensure a decent clip. The selection and Miss Bootylashes look the obvious contenders as most of the others seem better at 7 furlongs including likely favourite Borasco. Borasco beat Miss B over 7 furlongs here a few days ago but that was a Fillies only handicap and this is probably tougher up against the boys General Tufto might just outstay the fillies in a finish.

  8. Re: Lay Of The Day - Sunday 7th February 2010 1.40 Southwell - Ansells Pride - place lay Been backed into 2nd fave today after the Post picked him as their tip He's a front runner and the Post reckons he might get an easy lead and make all Not so sure myself - I think he might get an easy lead but not sure he can go fast enough to get away. Lots of 7 furlong horses in this mile race and i think he might get swamped in the final furlong as he did here last time when he faded and was beaten 10 lengths Has some good course form a couple of years ago, but he was probably a beter horse then than he is now

  9. Re: Best bet of the day 6th Feb Ling 3.35 Peak District - win Can't really pick between Nickel Silver and Peak District - both of them are in cracking form and CD winners etc Peak District only finished 5th last time but it was a really hot looking race and he clocked a bigger speed fig than Nickel Silver did in winning his last race. I'm going for PD partly because of their respective odds but also how i see the race going. Nickel will probably be hassled for the lead by Wotashirtful. He should see him off no problem but it just might make him go faster than he wants early on and leave it open for a fast finisher like Peak District

  10. Re: Lay Of The Day 6th Feb 3.05 Ling - Diamond Johnny G - win lay Madness !...........laying a forecast odds on shot in a four runner maiden. However........it was showing as well odds on in the Post forecast last night but has opened at Evens and doesn't seem like there's a lot of confidence behind it. I expect it to drift. On paper he should be a short price coming from running in group races to a lowly AW maiden, but there's a few reasons to take him on..... - hasn't run for 7 months - stoutly bred, sharp 5 furlongs surely won't suit - this could be a prep run for a 6F handicap he's entered in in a few days time. - trainer well out of form and doesn't seem to get fiirst time out winners even when he's in form The opposition isn't up to much so if you lay this fellow you've got to do it on the basis that he'll run a stinker rather than there being something hidden in the field that'll improve a lot

  11. Re: Lay of the Day 4th February Southwell - 3.00 - Gargano - win lay Short price M Johnston horse - he has no course experience here and he's not obviously well handicapped having gone up 3 lbs for a nose win last time He's a front runner and if he slows them down it might set up General Tufto who has miling speed. But there's also a couple of course winners in the field in Charging Indian and Bosamcliff to take him on if it turns into a test of stamina. Enough doubts to lay him at a short price !

  12. Re: Best bet of the day 4th feb Southwell 3.00 - General Tufto - win Has won a couple of races over 8 furlongs here recently but is also a CD winner over todays 11F trip Think the race might be run to suit him today with a Johnston front runner who'll prob try and slow them down. That could set it up for the selection's miling speed at the finish

  13. Re: Southwell 4th Feb (AW) 3.00 General Tufto - win Has won a couple of races over 8 furlongs here recently but is also a CD winner over todays 11F trip Think the race might be run to suit him today with a Johnston front runner who'll prob try and slow them down. That could set it up for the selection's miling speed at the finish Whist we're at it, let's Lay the favourite........... 3.00 - Gargano - lay Short price M Johnston horse - he has no course experience here, he's not obviously well handicapped having gone up 3 lbs for a nose win last time He's a fron runner and if he slows them down it might set up General Tufto who has miling speed. But there's also a couple of course winners in the field in Charging Indian and Bosamcliff to take him on if it turns into a test of stamina. Enough doubts to lay him at a short price !

  14. Re: Southwell 4th Feb (AW) 2.30 - Golden Tiger - Lay Lay the short price fave ! The 2nd last time out was OK, but it was beaten 3 lengths. Not bad but no reason why it should be such a short price. The time was very slow and the trainer isn't in great form Up against her is Erfaan, who ran behind Elusive Pimpernel in a maiden last summer and could be a class above these. You also have Ant Music, who has experience, has finished placed last twice and who's trainer is in sparkling form. You also have............... 2.30 Turning Circle - win I don't think 4 year olds have a great record in these 3 and 4 year old maiden races because they concede well over a stone. But this one has a 7 lb claimer up, has some course experience, is top of my speed ratings and comes from a stable in terrific form. At a current 16/1 in a five runner field, gotta be worth a shot !

  15. Re: Southwell 4th Feb (AW) 2.00 Peters Gift - win CD winner, pretty consistant type Fancy this one to overturn the current fave, Miss Bootylashes, on the basis that she really wants 8 furlongs and a 7 furlong small field race won't suit her, whereas Peter's Gift has her ideal conditions

  16. Re: Meydan 4th Feb (Dubai) 5.40 Naval Officer - ew Looking throuh the horses names (not the form !......:unsure) this one caught my eye I remember him as a good two year old in France the year before last when I was studying the French racing for a change of scenery. He won a few group races and was well fancied over the winter as a classic contender, but he lost his way at 3 and changed yard If the new trainer has him back to his best he could be a good ew shout here Crowded House has something to prove and Frozen Fire surely wants further than 9 furlongs

  17. Re: Meydan 4th Feb (Dubai)

thing is though trotter, we know half the runners anyway, e.g. In first race balcarce nov, ceremonial jade, oceans minstrel, sovereign rememdy, taqdeyr etc. So its a case of working out any track biases and hey presto (so the theory goes!!!): I was skeptical on this foreign racing before but now have warmed to it, its classy stuff and they are all trying so i prefer this to a class 6 feast at southwell today?!!
It's fine to watch.........but ! Would you part with cash on a race where even four or five of the runners were 'unknowns'. In that first race the 'Life' doesn't have any form at all for some of them ? Maybe I'm a bit anal but when I look at a race I look at every runner........if there's too much 'unknown' I just pass it over quickly ! Having said that..........how about a system.......back the shortest priced 'foreign' runner EW........on the basis that all the money in the UK will be going on the British horses so the market will be skewed against the foreign horses !
