  1. Re: Forecast prices if you go to the Post site and open up 'Betting Site' from the links at the top a new window will open with the Racing Post Betting Site..........they give you nearly everything for free that you pay for on the normal RP site, forecasts, RPR, topspeeds etc...........and it's all up the night before

  2. Re: Barry Hills Appreciation Thread!! Yes, he's been a cracking trainer over the years...........one of those ever presents during the time I've followed the sport with Cecil, Stoute, Dunlop etc I'm sure it's well known to everyone but he got his start in training by winning enough money in a huge gamble to buy his own yard...........:ok

  3. Re: Handicap on Sportinglife?

And what does wt stand for? :)
Wt is short for Weight.........it's the weight the horse is set to carry in today's race (includes the weight of the jockey, and weight above the jockeys weight is made up by putting metal bars in the saddle bag) So.......in the race linked to by haystacks Starwatch is set to carry 9 stone 8 pounds and Compton Blue is set to carry 9 stone 7 pounds There are 14 pounds in 1 stone, so 9 stone 8 lbs = 134 pounds 'pounds' is usually shortened to 'lbs' - derives from the Latin 'Libra' from from the unit of weight called a 'pound' derives. there are 2.2 lbs in 1 KG a stone (14 lbs) is around 6.37 KG
  4. Re: Handicap on Sportinglife? Do you mean it's handicap rating ? If so it's the figure that appears on the racecard under the heading 'OR' which stands for 'Official Rating' The figure given is the latest published figure - it might not be the same as the horse runs off today in a handicap race because it might be due to go up or down in the ratings from next week and it's that future figure that the Life shows. Also the OR shown in the Life takes no account of any penalty the horse is carrying in todays race for a recent win

  5. Re: BBOTD 18th of August Sou 7.10 - Piceno - win at 5/1 bog bet365 First time on fibresand which is a bit of a worry but he acts on soft ground and is a front runner so hopefully won't be getting any kickback Has gradually been getting closer in his last few runs and this looks a pretty soft race Now just one pound above his last winning mark and drops down in class. Has been running in class 3 events this season and last time was against older horses Today he's back amongst the 3 year olds and in class 5

  6. Re: Help with racing form from Massey website The (20) is just the amount clear that the top rated is from the next best, in this case 612 to 592 the **** is a rating system showing this is a 4 star selection I think it just works by the amount 'clear' so if it was 50 points clear it would be a 5 star selection ! edit..........that one is a 5 star selection !

  7. Re: Horse racing abreviation on betfair A bet on a winning stall would be the same as a bet on the horse in that stall ? I don't use betfair but is that 'winning stall' a spread on a single race? eg....... winner to come from stalls 1-10 v winner to come from stalls 11-20 or is a totals of winning stall numbers over all the races eg total of winning stall numbers - under 15 Winning stall numbers - 15-25 winning stall numbers - 26-36 etc...........with different prices for each 'band'

  8. Re: course specialist I think the five furlongs at Hamilton suits hold up horses because the first half is downhill and the second half is uphill I reckon front runners go too fast on the downhill (particularly in a big field where they take each other on) and grind to a halt on the uphill

  9. Re: course specialist I think brighton is one for sure any track that has something a bit out of the ordinary............most horses should be ok on flat sweeping tracks that are often described as 'fair' which means they don't suit any particular type of horse. In fact 'fair' tracks can often not suit some horses who are not competitive in a fair race But tracks that are a bit idiosyncratic can play to some horses strengths and expose others weaknesses..........those are the tracks where you're more likely to find course specialists a track with a stiff uphill finish might suit a steady galloper who doesn't quicken much in a finish...........the track will take the finishing kick out of the ones that win that way on flat tracks an undulating, winding track like brighton might suit horses that don't have a high cruising speed and get left behind on a flat track, the ups and downs and turns of Brighton will slow down the horses that have a high cruising speed and give him a chance to be thereabouts at the finish I think it's often not a case that a certain track suits a particular horse more that it doesn't suit the other horses in the race and the 'course specialist' doesn't have his weaknesses exposed as he would on straightforward tracks

  10. Re: BBOTD Knockout Competition ~ 2nd Round Selections (2pm Deadline)

Well done Sir Lord Darth Trotterski :clap :ok
Cheers samba..........but i was a bit lucky, sneaking through with an Evs winner..........:unsure This comp throws up a bit of a dilemma as to wether to go for 3 favourites and hope a couple win, go for some ew shots and hope to score big on one of them or fiddle around with a mixture........... It's a good format BH !.............:ok Good luck to the lads in the play off today...............:)
  11. Re: BBOTD 14th of August Ponty 3.30 - Folly Bridge - win at 14/1 bog bet365 Fancy a bit of an upset in the Listed race at Ponty Of the top six in the betting three are drawn in the widest stalls, one has a penalty to carry, one is a probable non stayer up the hill and the other one is my selection ! Dever Dream looks a solid favourite on form but is drawn widest of all and will probably have to use up energy early to get a position. Folly Bridge is drawn in 3 with the probable front runner, Rose Blossom, in stall 1. Hopefully she can get a good tug into the race and pick her off up the hill My filly has plenty of stamina having won a couple of times over 7 furlongs at Newmarket. She tried 8 furlongs here but weakened in the finish. This stiff 6 furlongs should suit her ideally. She's been well thrashed in 2 previous attemps in Listed company but one of those was her seasonal debut and the other was that 8 furlong race here. She has good form lumping big weights in handicaps, Her last win had Red Gulch in 2nd and he went on to win at Glorious Goodwood. In her last run she was beaten 2 lengths in a Class 2 carrying 10 stone Yard have hit form with a vengence in the last couple of weeks - 10 winners from the last 16 runners including the last 4 to run I can't believe she'll go off at 14/1 !..............:unsure

  12. Re: BBOTD - Sat 13th August Ling 7.40 - Exchange - win at 15/8 with Wm Hill Class 6 claimer on the polytrack over a mile Exchange has a lot going for him - he's the only course winner, he's the only one who's won at a mile, he's already won 4 claimers this season and he's the top rated horse on official ratings and RPR Was pretty well beaten last time but that was a class 3 handicap at Newmarket so takes a significant drop back in grade today

  13. Re: BBOTD 10th August Kemp 6.00 - Reem Star - win at 7/4 bog bet365 Finished 2nd over this CD last time out in quite a decent time and gets to run off the same mark here though she's gone up 4 lbs for turf races Has stamina on her side and this in-between trip of 11 furlongs seems to catch out the 10 furlong horses, which most of todays field seem to be i can see her forging clear in the final furlong as most of the others begin to weaken
