I had this on my to do list as you ask an interesting question. I have looked at horses performing on their next run in handicaps. Horses running with a higher OR have an AE of 0.99. Horses running with the same OR have an AE of 1.00. Horses running with a lower OR have an AE of 1.01. So horses carrying less weight perform better. In fact horses that carry less than 9 stones have recorded 5,256 wins from 60,355 runs with a profit of 305 points and an AE of 1.03. One thing I did notice is the success of those horses running over shorter distances. They have 4,632 wins from 44,384 runs with a profit of 89 points and an AE of 1.03. Food for thought ?
