Re: *NEW* - Eyecatchers thread - horses to follow/avoid Horses Name: SOUTH CAPE Date(s) you noticed the horse: 26/09/10 Ideal Conditions: Good / Good/soft or Soft Ideal Trip: 7f/8f Follow/Avoid (for how long): Next run Reasoning: The horses performance behind Brick Red at Ascot was another solid effort in a reasonable season where it has finished in the places 4 times and won once from 8 runs. The key to this horse is possibly the autumn time as so far the horse has won 5 times in Sept/Oct during its career which overall spans 8 wins in 58 runs. It will possibly run on Sunday in the 4.55 Goodwood over 1m. The horse is running off the same mark of 84 and any cut in the ground will help. I am very interested in this one next time out. The form line is excellent with subsequent Cambridgeshire winner Credit swap back in 3rd place at ascot.

Re: *NEW* - Eyecatchers thread - horses to follow/avoid Going to keep my eye on some of the two year old nurseries and look for any potentially good 3 year old handicappers, got a Johnstone horse from today that I will also look to post up, maybe tonight if I get a spare 10-15 mins.

Re: *NEW* - Eyecatchers thread - horses to follow/avoid Horses Name: Zoowraa Date(s) you noticed the horse: 02/10/10 Ideal Conditions: Gd-sft, may go on other surfaces, only had 1 race Ideal Trip: Raced once over 7f but won going away, out of Azamour so likely to step up in trip. Follow/Avoid (for how long): Follow next time out and for a while, this is going places, smart horse and won in style Reasoning: Made its debut on Saturday in a maiden race at Redcar, travelled smoothly throughout and beat a 15-8 fav. Race was nothing special but the winning performance was impressive, won going away and surged clear. Try watch the replay to see what I mean, did its job well and has a good pedigree. Likely to step up to 1m, 1m2f I would have thought and looks to have a good attitude. Not sure if this will go the handicap route or aim higher.

Re: *NEW* - Eyecatchers thread - horses to follow/avoid

Horses Name: Beat The Bell (David Barron) Date(s) you noticed the horse: 03 September 2010 Ideal Conditions: Quick ground with lots of pace in the race Ideal Trip: 5/6 furlongs Follow (for how long): Follow over the coming months, especially at Southwell or at any turf surface with Good going or better. Reasoning: Recently joined the David Barron yard from the Osbourne yard for 15,000 gns, he raced at Musselbrugh today which was his first time out for Barron. Missed the break effectively costing him a good 3 lengths or so and flew home late on to grab 4th and was around 1.5 lengths away from the winner. He was well backed from 20/1 into 10/1 suggesting that David has him in good knick and expected him to go closer if not win. Had a poor draw on the outside stall also which was no help and with a clear break he would of won. Barron usually does well with this sort of horse and he's got an entry for the Ayr Gold Cup on the 18th of September, currently 66/1 and worth a couple of quid e/w of anyones money in my opinion. He has been rated as high as 92 on the All-Weather and it'll be interesting to see what David Barron does with him as he's an AW specialist and one of the top trainers around Southwell so if I see him running there I'll definitely be lumping on, especially if Jamie Spencer is on board. He's not as good on the turf but not much worse and there will be a race in him from this sort of mark. He has lots of speed and is tactically versatile, can be ridden from the front or held up to run on late. He's an ideal horse for the Barron yard and if money comes for it next time out it should be taken very seriously. Certainly one to keep an eye on and I'm putting a few quid on him e/w at 66/1 to win the Ayr Gold Cup, in the off-chance that he actually races in it, although I think Barron's other horse, Poet's Place, is a shoe in for it. ;)
Winner. Backed from 7's into 7/2 favourite.

Horses Name: GENKI Date(s) you noticed the horse: 18 Sept Ideal Conditions: acts on g/firm t G/soft Ideal Trip: 6f or 7f? Follow/Avoid (for how long): will win a big handicap by end of next season ! Reasoning: was flying at the death last week in the Ayr Gold cup and may just get a stiff 7f now as it moves towards its 7th year. I really thought the horse was going to win last week and once it got going there was nothing going better at the death. Keep an eye on especially if they step it up in trip.
ran today at ascot in the group 3, was much closer to the pace and hit the front inside the final furlong only to get passed by Bewitched who came with a late rattle down the stands side. i think genki will win again and stays on my list for the remainder of this season and for next season

Re: *NEW* - Eyecatchers thread - horses to follow/avoid

Horses Name: Sea Change Date(s) you noticed the horse: 22nd Sept Ideal Conditions: anything not too extreme i.e hvy or fst Ideal Trip: 12f Follow/Avoid (for how long): next couple of runs Reasoning: was 4lb ahead of handicapper today when beaten fav in 4.20 at Good but not suited by slow pace as race descended into a sprint up the straight. Handicap cert before the season is out even off revised mark and extra furlong would help in future
This one is declared in the 4pm tomorrow at Kempton and whilst I think the surface will suit, as will the extra furlong (stepping up to 1m 4f) I am not sure he will necessarily get the fast pace he craves here. Also, he is drawn out in the carpark and may not get the best early position and perhaps will end up coming wide into the straight? 5/1 seems a fair enough price but not backing, fancy Silent Act more at the prices and that one will likely be better placed if it gets tactical.

Re: *NEW* - Eyecatchers thread - horses to follow/avoid Horses Name: Cardinal Date(s) you noticed the horse: 30/9/10 and 11/10/10 Ideal Conditions: Good - Soft Ideal Trip: 6 Furlongs Follow/Avoid (for how long): Follow next time out and next season Reasoning: This horse just won the 15:35 at Windsor today and he won it in fantastic style. Had to come right round the whole field to find a gap and when he eventually got a clear run he stayed on very fashionably. He actually caught my eye in his previous race when he was 4th at Warwick, he reared at the start and lost several lengths but stayed on strongly near the finish. Worth keeping an eye on in the near future and possibly next season as well. Did take a while to break his maiden tag but hasn't been with his current yard long so it looks like they have brought out the best from this horse.

Re: *NEW* - Eyecatchers thread - horses to follow/avoid Long time reader but first post today. As in the post above. I was very impressed by Cardinals run on Monday and spotted its running in the 5.40 at Nottingham today. Frankies on board and its 5/2 from 10/3. Will take some stopping IMO

Runs tomorrow at Newbury in a Listed race. Robinson and Jarvis combination, easily good enough to win at listed class. Will be interesting to see what price it is. Could be worth doubling with Native Khan. :ok

Horses Name: European Dream Date(s) you noticed the horse: Today Ideal Conditions: Good, Good to Soft, Soft, Ideal Trip: 2 Miles or 1 Mile Follow/Avoid (for how long): Follow until it wins Reasoning: Wow wow wow, very interesting. European Dream is the name of the horse i won my most substantial sum of money from a few years back in a huge handicap at Newcastle, something like 28 runners that day.. Anyways it was with Richard Guest and i see it has its first run for Richard Fahey tomorrow and Hanagan is on board in the Ayr 4:20... This is very significant and this is a classy animal that i feel hasnt been given the best oportunity to succeed with the Guest stable. I feel the Fahey stable will be getting the best tune out of this animal and im getting excited cos i know a win is just around the corner with it!! :cow It probably wont win tomorrow but it is one to keep a very close eye on
Out today if anybody is interested, im quite confident today could be the day for it. Running 2:55 Wetherby :hope

Re: *NEW* - Eyecatchers thread - horses to follow/avoid Horses Name: VALENTINO SWING Date(s) you noticed the horse: 7.50 Kempton Wednesday 2nd Feb 2011 Ideal Conditions: All Weather~Best at Kempton in C6 or C7 but wouldn't rule out Lingfield or Wolves Ideal Trip: 6F or 7F Follow/Avoid (for how long): Next Time Out ~Has no current entries but would imagine it will be out again very soon. Reasoning~ Currently on a very low mark (50) having won six times in the past four times in the 60's and looks ready to strike again very soon in a low grade handicap after finishing well to be 3rd after a troubled late run may have won with a free passage as only btn a nk,nk. Current trainer owns the horse has yet to get a win out of it in six run since Nov last year but looks only a matter of time before the 8yo picks up another one of these poor AW handicaps. Having said all that would have to be a working mans price to get me to part with some of my hard earned cash but we will wait and see.

Re: *NEW* - Eyecatchers thread - horses to follow/avoid

Horses Name: Catherines Call Date(s) you noticed the horse: 2/10/2010 Ideal Conditions: AW/Good to Firm/Good to Soft Ideal Trip: 6F/7F Follow/Avoid (for how long): Next 3 runs Reasoning: I watched this horse very closely on its last run. I watched the video over and over and over again and for the life of me i cant understand what the jockey was doing, with a more prominent ride this horse would have hacked up. Luke Morris kept the horse right at the rear for the whole race and with 2/3 furlongs out made really smooth headway on the bridle, even though it was in 5th or 6th place at the time it then hit a low of 2.10 in running (SP 13.50) just over a furlong out and the only reason it came 3rd was because of the jockey giving the horse that little bit too much to do. I have no doubt in my mind this horse will have its day very soon and is one to watch for sure.
Thank you very much... :cow 3/1

You have to back e/w at that price mate... you made the right call.. always back e/w if you can, it is far more in your favour if you do.

Re: *NEW* - Eyecatchers thread - horses to follow/avoid Horses Name: Ivestar Date(s) you noticed the horse: 31/1/11 Ideal Trip: 6F/7F Follow/Avoid (for how long): Follow next time Reasoning: Bit of a spec one this but I backed this horse last time it ran at around 25-1 as I was waiting for it to be sent out over 6f as previous try at that trip in Jun 2010 at Hamilton produced a win at 40-1. Since that win he had been running mostly over a mile with little success. The horse raced at Wolves on 31st Jan and after breaking slowly (prone to do so) the jock was sitting pretty on him and rather easily moved into mid pack was given one hit and ran on well in the closing stages to grab third on the line. I just thought the way he travelled and stayed on nicely he could be worth another go next time out over the 6 or possibly stepped up to 7f. Will prob go off another biggish price too no known entries for the horse yet though.

Re: *NEW* - Eyecatchers thread - horses to follow/avoid Horses Name: Inside Dealer Date(s) you noticed the horse: 13/2/2011 Ideal Conditions: Gd-sft but no softer than that Ideal Trip: 2m 3f up to 3m Follow/Avoid (for how long): Follow for next 3 races or so Reasoning: Looked quite progressive, winning off 113 by 12l at Exeter and then was 2nd off a rating of 125. Raced yesterday off 126 and finished 4th, well beaten but for me did not take to the heavy ground. Has run quite poorly on soft in the past and I was not aware of all the heavy rain at Exeter yesterday and that the ground had turned heavy. It was an absolute mudbath by the 4.10pm race and I felt the horse struggled to dig its toe in as it tried to leap the fences. It's now 0-3 on heavy and 0-4 on soft. The winner As De Fer was up 12lb since its last race and won again and that is a progressive, unexposed 5 year old that had placed on heavy abroad and the 2nd, Requin was making its chase debut and was well fancied and well backed throughout the day. Back on ground that is genuinely good to soft I'd fancy Inside Dealer and feel it should not be written off based on yesterdays showing.

Re: *NEW* - Eyecatchers thread - horses to follow/avoid I have updated the Eyecatchers sticky at the top of the page with wins and places since the horses were nominated. If your horse wins or places can you post it up in this thread and I can keep them up to date that way. Quite a few winners, the best being 16-1 Titan Triumph. :clap Keep the eyecatchers coming. :ok

Re: *NEW* - Eyecatchers thread - horses to follow/avoid Horses Name: SHALONE Date(s) you noticed the horse: 19/1/11 Ideal Trip: 2M-2M 5F Follow/Avoid (for how long): Follow next 3 runs/ Avoid if runs at Ascot Reasoning This horse clobbered 3 fences on the way round Ascot today but even so it travelled really well and even got hampered at the 6th fence, it traded as low as 1.55 turning for home, i actually thought it was going to hack up but it seems the few mistakes and being hampered took its toll after 2 out. I think with a small bit of improvement in the jumping department, the switch of Jimmy McCarty and moving Choc Thornton onto the horse will be in need.. It has run at Ascot twice now and has put in its 2 worst finishes there, it has won at Kempton, Exeter, Uttoxeter and Wincanton, it has a range of suitable trips, has won on soft and good ground so im definately following this Alan King horse for a while, it was also nibbled in the market today! If it runs at Ascot i will stay away but anywhere else ill be backing it.

Up a couple of lbs for last run best price 5/1 today should go close but not for me at the price better value to be had in the race imo but will do it in a exacta.
