Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread 14:10 Goodwood This class 2 handicap looks a very nice race and a case can be made for most of the 15 runners. There are several lightly raced/unexposed horses in the field, some horses are stepping up/down in grade and several of the big trainers are going in with 2 or 3 entries. The Mark Johnston three have to be respected for starters, all three have got off the mark already and I really can't decide which one is his first string but it has to be between Capponi and Solicitor but good luck splitting those two. Aattash won at this course over a shorter trip LTO in good fashion by making all. He beat Start Right that day by nearly 3 lengths who then went on to win fairly confortably at this meeting two days ago. My main concern is that he won't appreciate the slight step up in trip. London Stripe has improved race by race and is likely to improve once again so has to be respected. Big Audio won twice at Listed level for Richard Hannon, now with Godolphin and I wouldn't rule his chances out despite running off top weight. My selection does lie with the Richard Hannon yard and that is Invincible Soul. The horse has had 9 runs to date with his only win coming on his last run in 2009 in a maiden race at Newmarket over the mile trip. Entered handicaps this year off a mark of 84, is now 10lbs higher without getting his head in front which is a bit of a concern but I feel hes been rather unlucky not to have won a race so far this year. Has placed four times from five runs but it looks like he is finally getting the step up in trip which he has been crying out for. Ran on very well over the mile trip in his last two outings, he was 1st of 11 out of his group at Ascot back in June on his penultimate start and was 3rd at Newmarket LTO, raised 2lbs for that but the step up in trip today may bring out some extra improvement in the horse. With the stable bang in form as well I have to snap at the prices available for this horse today. 0.5pts E/W Invincible Soul @ 16/1 (VC Bet - BOG)

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread 20:30 Musselburgh Honest Broker is still fairly lightly raced with only 11 runs to date with only 5 of them coming on turf. Has yet to open his account on turf but he has managed 2 wins on the AW so far in 2010 over this distance. Only found one too good for him back on turf at Beverley LTO which seemed an improved performance on his previous four efforts on turf. Stable is in good form and this is Johnston's only runner at this meeting which is another reason as to why I will be backing this horse. 1pt win Honest Broker @ 11/2 (VC Bet - BOG) 21:00 Musselburgh Sandwith has been running creditably enough so far this season without getting his head in front and I feel back over a course and distance he has won at previously may just be the place to do it. I thought he did well to take 4th place at Newcastle LTO after breaking away fairly slowly. He has placed twice in five runs this season, once over course and distance and once at Hamilton, both off a mark of 60, he is now on a very attractive mark of 57 considering he won here off a mark of 67 back in 2008. Visored for the first time today so it will be interesting to see how he copes with that. 0.5pt Win Sandwith @ 6/1 (VC Bet - BOG)

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread 17:00 Newbury Solemn has been having a relatively consistent season to date with one win and four places from 7 runs so far in 2010. Won on his 2nd start of the season at Yarmouth in a class 5 handicap off a mark of 72. Is now 9lbs higher than that but has placed three times since off similar marks he runs off today and is dropping back down in class after taking part in a class 2 race at Ascot LTO. Didn't disgrace himself that day and although he finished 7th, he was only 3 lengths off the winner. Runs off the same mark of 81 today so should be in with a chance, especially with ground and trip being ideal for him. Liam Keniry is back on board, he has placed on both occasion when riding the horse previously. 1pt E/W Solemn @ 8/1 (Ladbrokes - BOG)

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread Nice winner for me yesterday, especially since the horse was backed into 11/2 :nana 15:45 Ripon This looks to be the feature race here at Ripon today in what looks a wide open handicap. Mark Johnston only sends two horses to the track today and he holds a very good strike rate at the track (15%) so his runner Jarrow could potentially spring a surprise here. The horse has won twice over the distance, once in a maiden race at Lingfield and once on his handicap debut at Kempton off a mark of 83. Has dropped down to a mark of 86 now which is his lowest mark since winning and although he looks to be better on the AW I wouldn't be surprised if he ran a solid race considering he has place at Newmarket off a mark of 90. Kells Eye warrants repect as he holds a 100% strike rate at the track with 3 course and distance wins from 3 runs, I think the race might be too soon for him having run at Goodwood on Friday. Baldemar is slowly becoming well handicapped again and is now only 1lb higher than his last win. Fahey/Hanagan have been a deadly duo all season so he has to be respected. This now leads me to my selection, Ruth Carr sends two runners here today and both are in this race. Its hard to see which one is her first string but I am going to side with Excusez Moi, one of the reasons I am ruling out Red Cape is the fact he also ran at Goodwood on Friday although he is very well weighted, especially with James Sullivan taking off an extra 3lbs. Anyway Excusez Moi is a previous course and distance winner, his first came 4 years ago off a mark of 99 with his latest win over CD coming in May last year off a mark of 85, only 1lb higher for todays run and McDonald is also on board again today. Did win off a mark of 92 last year at Beverley so he is definately well handicapped. Five runs this season have been nothing to shout about but he has shown slight improvement in his last two runs and another 1lb drop in the weights will only favour him. Trainer has a good strike rate at the track (21%) as does the jockey (17%) and if you combine the two together, they have a 66%SR with 2 winners from 3 together. The horse does tend to be slow out the stalls at times so hopefully McDonald can get him off to a good start. Going to have a small saver on the Mark Johnston horse as well. 0.7pts E/W Excusez Moi @ 8/1 (Skybet - 1/4 - 1,2,3) 0.3pts E/W Jarrow @ 22/1 (BlueSquare - 1/4 - 1,2,3)

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread 14:45 Chepstow I have previously backed Jasmeno before and she really does seem to be slowly improving and I think today will finally be her day to get her head in front, especially with the step up in trip today as she is bred to stay this sort of trip. Hughie Morrison's only horse at the meeting which suggests to me that she is expected to run a solid enough race. Not sure how she will cope with the ground but she was 4th in Soft ground at Salisbury on her 2nd start but has delivered a poor effort since on GS ground. I would rate Garafena as a main danger but think they ground may be against the horse now. 1.5pt win Jasmeno @ 4/1 (VC Bet - BOG)

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread 16:10 Pontefract Nice looking race this where many hold claims. Mr Wolf has been priced up the early favourite and he really is a true course specialist, winning at the course 8 times in total with 5 of those coming over today's course and distance. He has also placed a further 9 times at the course from 24 runs so hes only had 7 unplaced efforts out of those which is very impressive. He runs off a 6lb penalty today though which should make things tougher for the old boy but I wouldn't be surprised if he was to go in again considering he has won off higher marks at the course previously. Chosen One looks on a fair mark after notching up a hat-trick in Spring and then boucning back with a win LTO after a few bad efforts. Remains unpenalised for that win due to the fact it was an Apprentice race. Select Committee and Supermassive Muse have both been fairly frustrating to follow as of late but I just feel there is definately a race in both of them at some point in 2010 but today is not their day for me. That leads me to last years winner King Of Swords who landed this race off a 1lb higher mark last year before following up with another win over CD off a mark 4lb higher then a win at Beverley over the trip off a mark 8lbs higher. Started the season off a mark of 70 and has came tumbling down in the weights and is now on a mark of 55. Couple of placed efforts recently suggesting he is coming back to form, especially over CD on his penultimate start where was 2nd to Mr Wolf off the same mark as he runs off today so a 6lb pull in the weights should see a reverse of form from that half a length margin between them that day. The race at Beverley LTO maybe came a bit too soon for him as it was only 2 days later. Richard Mullen takes the ride for the first time today which seems an interesting booking, especially since he doesn't ride for the trainer very often. 1pt E/W King Of Swords @ 6/1 (>Bet365 - BOG)

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread 18:10 Sandown Drift And Dream should appreciate the step back in trip to five furlongs after running over 6 furlongs at Doncaster LTO. Ran a creditable race in 3rd place that day in this grade and gets in off the same mark today. Won over course and distance on her penultimate start off a mark 5lbs lower. Has only been unplaced twice from seven starts, once over six furlongs which is clearly not her best trip and once where she dwelt at the start so excuses can be made. Trainer only sends this one horse to tonight's meeting which suggests to me that he is expecting a big run. 2pt win Drift And Dream @ 11/4 (WillHill - BOG)

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread Drift And Dream won @ 5/2, been a really good week so far and lets hope the one afternoon selection can keep the good run going :hope 16:00 Brighton Hand Painted is the one for me in this race. This gelding is still lightly raced with only 13 runs to date in which hes run with reasonable consistency by winning 3 times and placing 3 times. His first win was over this course and distance off a mark of 65 in handicap company last year, he followed that up in his next race with another win over course and distance off a 5lb higher mark. Since then he placed twice off marks of 72 and 73 before winning at Folkstone over 7 furlongs off a mark of 74. Unplaced on his last effort of 2009 and both efforts so far in 2010 have went the same way and due to that he has dropped back down to a winning mark of 74. He definately improved on his first of the season run LTO and he needed a couple of runs last season before getting off to winning ways so I believe he will strip fitter for today's race. Ground shouldn't be a problem, trip is fine and he has a good record at the course, everything looks to be set for a big run from this 4 year old. 2pt win Hand Painted @ 5/2 (Betfred - BOG)

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread 14:30 Redcar Brannagh holds strong claims in what is a tight little contest. The horse is still lightly raced having only had 7 runs to date so far. Has won twice and placed twice from those runs with both of his wins coming this year. He broke his maiden tag over the extended 7 furlongs at Brighton in a maiden race back in May and since then has went on to win in handicap company off a mark of 77 at Doncaster. Was raised 8lbs for the win and he didn't have the best of times at Epsom off that mark LTO. Was hanging to the left up the straight but to his credit he did stay on gamely and finished 4/6 but was only just over 2 lengths off the winner. Hes likely to still be improving and due to the fact this is Noseda's only horse at the meeting is another positive for me. Trip should be fine and ground conditions definately won't be a problem considering he has won twice and placed once from runs on GF ground. 1pt win Brannagh @ 10/3 (>Paddy Power - BOG)

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread 14:20 Haydock The lightly raced Makaamen takes my eye in this race. The Barry Hills trained runner has only been on track 7 times and is now 4 years old. Had just the one run as a 2 year old before going on to win his first 2 starts in 2009 at the age of 3. The first came in a maiden race at Doncaster over 7 furlongs before following that up with another win over 7 furlongs at Newbury in Soft conditions off a mark of 90. Has dropped back down to that mark of 90 today so he is on a winnable mark. Four runs since that last win haven't been the best but I feel his two runs so far this season in the Victoria Cup and Spring Cup are better than his position suggests. This will only be his second start over the mile trip and at the prices he is definately worth a bet considering he surely has more to offer and will handle the ground conditions. Trainers only runner at the meeting and the jockey has a nice 19% strike rate for him. Mark Johnston won this race last year and I feel Autumn Riches will be one of the big dangers in this race. 0.5pt E/W Makaamen @ 16/1 (>Betfred - BOG)

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread 19:40 Ayr I like the chances of Bed Fellow in what is a fairly weak contest. He narrowly went down by a head on his penultimate start over course and distance where he was headed late home by Only A Splash who is also entered in this race. A 6lb pull in the weights should be enough for him to reverse the form and although he has went up 5lbs in the handicap since that race, Patrick Donaghy takes claims 5lbs in this race. The horse is twice a distance winner in testing conditions although both those wins were 4 years ago but he is well handicapped on that form. Has placed three times this season off lower marks but a return to the winning enclosure may not be too far away. 0.5pts E/W Bed Fellow @ 10/1 (VC Bet - BOG)

There was a rule 4 for King Of Swords, it was a 14/1 horse that pulled out as well which is a bit annoying but I can' complain. Few disappointing runs in there as well but overall a very profitable week and the thread is in a nice enough profit as a whole now. Have really turned this round the past month or so and hopefully I can keep this level up.

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread 14:30 Windsor This isn't the strongest looking of races but several are in with a shout. My selection lies with the one of the outsiders in the race with Strom Hawk. Pat Eddrey's gelding is still a maiden after 12 runs and has only placed on three occasions so far so its clear the horse is not the most consistent by any means. His best effort to date has been over this course and distance which is the main reason I feel its worth chancing a bet on the horse. He was 2nd, only going down half a length off a mark 1lb lower than todays. Similar conditions today and Martin Lane is back in the saddle, he will have a bit of confidence after a big winner at Newmarket yesterday. He claims 3lbs and is definately more than worth for his claim. Dichoh is the main danger for me. 0.5pts E/W Storm Hawk @ 25/1 (Stan James - BOG)

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread 15:50 Leicester Spensley ended his campaign as a 3 year old in 2009 with a win over this course and distance which finally broke his maiden tag. That was only his 3rd run in handicap company and having dropped 6lbs in 2 runs, he was ready to strike and took advantage of his low mark. Is back up to a mark of 71 which is the mark he started handicapping off of, ran off that mark LTO at the end of last month which was his first run of the season which I am willing to ignore, especially since it was over a trip he has yet to act over. Should strip fitter for todays run and with Fallon taking over on board for the first time, I feel he has a great chance of repeating his course and distance success. Trainers only horse of the day and it comes at a track he holds a good record at - 18% strike rate. This is Fallon's 2nd and last mount of the day, he won the previous race and will be looking to make it a quickfire and a very worthy day for him. He also holds a strike rate of 18% here. 1pt E/W Spensley @ 7/1 (VC Bet - BOG)

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread 18:40 Windsor Lining up one in this race at the minute because I think the price on offer right now is well overpriced and I think the horse could go off a lot shorter. This is a fantastic race and most of the 11 that line up hold strong claims but We Have A Dream is currently way overpriced in my opinion. The horse is a real specialist over this trip and 8 of his 9 wins have been over this distance. He has placed a further 11 times over the trip which is a fascinating record. Has won in most ground conditions but I would say a little bit of rain would help his chances, it is currently Good ground which will be fine for him but if it is to go GS then it would further my belief in the fact that he can win this race. The weather is expected to be fairly mixed but I wouldn't even rule out his chances in GF ground. He has yet to win in 2010 but has placed off marks of 84 and 88 (x2) so I believe this mark of 90 is not beyond him despite his best winning mark being 81. Was only beaten a short head by Olynard last month at Chepstow and has a 1lb pull in the weights for that, yet is 4 times the price currently which I find fascinating. It looks to me that he is likely get an easy lead in this race and that can prove to be very favourable at this track. He has had 5 runs here previously but is 0/5 but I'm willing to ignore that tomorrow especially when this is the trainers only horse at the meeting tomorrow. I find the fact that Richard Hughes is on board this horse over Hannon's course and distance winner Getcarter very interesting. Rocket Rob has been running so consistent all season and has been very unlucky not to get his head in front lately, he faces a further 2lb rise in the weights and we all know Windsor is not the best of tracks to be coming off the pace so tonight may not be his night again. 0.5pts E/W We Have A Dream @ 20/1 (>Bet365 - BOG)

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread 15:45 Beverley Titus Andronicus should have a good chance of landing this race at a nice price. First of all he is drawn very well in stall 13 of 13. He should be able to bounce out the stalls and pick up the lead, it seems as if he is the only confirmed front runner in the race so could potentially make all if he gets an easy lead. He is 8lbs higher than his last win which came over the distance at Musselburgh in April 2009 but he has placed off marks of 82 (x2) and 85 (x2) since so I feel he is definately capable of winning off this mark of 82. He has recently moved to the Richard Fahey stable who is in fine form, he made his debut for the yard LTO at Goodwood, finished well down the field but I feel he was definately in need of the run considering he was off the track for around 11 months and will strip a lot fitter for this race. Plenty of hold-up horses in the race so he may set the race up for them but hopefully he has the speed to see them all off from the front. 1pt E/W Titus Andronicus @ 8/1 (>Betfred - BOG)

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread 15:35 Salisbury Our Boy Barrington doesn't seem the most straightforward of horses but I feel today could be his day to get his head back in front. He won on his handicap debut at Nottingham in his first race of the season. This was over today's trip off a mark of 65. He followed that up with a narrow 2nd placed finish at Windsor over the same trip off a mark of 69. Was only beaten a head that day by Contredanse who has since followed up with a win in handicap company off a mark of 84 (9lbs higher than the Windsor race) and a win in a Group 2 race over in Italy. Has also competed in a Group 1 race in the UK but was 5/7 which is no disgrace really. The 3rd place in the Windsor race was 4 lengths behind that day and has since won two handicap races off marks of 66 and 72 and has placed off a mark of 76 as well so I would say Our Boy Barrington is definately well in off a mark of 73. He has had a few poor races since the Windsor race but has dropped back down in the handicap which should give him a good chance of winning again very soon. Was 2nd off this mark LTO at Windsor and hopefully he can make his first visit to Salisbury a winning one. 1pt win Our Boy Barrington @ 9/2 (Betfred - BOG)

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread Lets hope to hit the first winner of the week today: 15:25 Epsom Course form can tend to be vital when running at Epsom as not every horse takes to the track so I will be siding with a previous course and distance winner in this race and that is Hi Shinko. The gelding had six runs as a 2 year old, three of which he finished in second place. He then finally broke his maiden tag in his first run of the 2009 season at Folkstone over 6 furlongs. Since then he won a handicap race over the minimum trip, at Folkstone again off a mark of 68. Stepped up to 7 furlongs for the first time in August 2009 where he was a close 2nd at Lingfield in Soft conditions. This definately seems to be his best trip, having only had 5 runs over the trip he has won once and placed 3 times. Ran three races in a row over this course and distance last year, he won a handicap off a mark of 72 in good style before finishing 2nd off a mark of 78 and then finally he finished 5th off the same mark a race later. These have been his only three runs over course and distance so its clear to see he acts well here, runs off a mark of 71 today so he is 1lb below his winning mark over course and distance and 7lbs below the mark he placed off of so he is definately well handicapped. Did run over 9 furlongs at the course LTO where he finished a creditable 3rd place considering he had only run over 7 furlongs once previously. Will love todays conditions, has won twice and finished 2nd three times from 5 runs in Good To Soft conditions so everything looks set for a big run from him today. This is the trainers only horse at the meeting and Chris Catlin's only ride at the meeting today which is more positives for me. 1pt E/W Hi Shinko @ 8/1 (>Betfred - BOG)

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread 15:40 Salisbury Calatrava Cape has improved well since stepping up to this trip in 2010. She won on her reappearance at Newmarket over the distance when tackling this trip for the first time. Won by over 3 lengths off a mark of 69 that day and then followed up with a close 2nd place over the same course and distance LTO off a mark of 75. Only went down a neck to a horse that has went on to win again since so that piece of form is working out well. Raised 4lbs for that effort but should definately have a chance in this race as she is still improving having only had 7 runs to date. Ted Durcan gets on well with her having 2 places and a win when on board. 0.5pt win Calatrava Cape @ 5/1 (>Paddy Power - BOG)

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread Argh Calatrava Cape 2nd, just got caught on the line :sad Travelled so well too and to be honest I was wary of the Cumani one, especially how well Fallon is riding but wasn't sure the horse would get the trip and seemed that way when it was fading away at one point. Few more bets over the weekend so hopefully I can turn this week around yet.

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread 15:55 Newcastle It tends to pay off to be drawn high at Newcastle over 7 furlongs but my selection comes out of stall 3 but I feel this is definately factored into the price as I feel he would be much shorter in the market if he had a favourable draw. Sailorman from the Mark Johnston yard is still lightly raced having only had 6 runs to date. He broke his maiden tag at the second time of asking at Thirsk over the distance in GF conditions. Made his handicap debut in a decent enough race at Newmarket off a mark of 78 but was well beaten in last place that day. Went on to win his next race off a mark of 76 over the distance at Chepstow where he routed a small field by 5 lengths. The second place has since placed before going on to win up in class at Epsom yesterday off a 2lb higher mark. Sailorman was a close second himself off a 6lb higher mark at Epsom after his win, a track which not every horse takes well too so that piece of form is not the worst. Was slowly away at Sandown LTO and was a bit unsuited by the tactics employed that day, he was held up when he usually likes to lead which was far from ideal. Dropped 2lbs for that run today and hopefully Greg Fairley can bounce him out the gates to try and grab the lead. 1.2pt Win Sailorman @ 13/2 (>Bet365 - BOG)

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread 16:00 Bath Dance East has been in fantastic form so far in 2010 and she is yet to finish a race unplaced from 5 runs. Her only unplaced effort to date was last year on her debut where she appeared really immature but she has obviously came on from that experience over the winter. She has won 3 times this season, once at 7f, once over 8f and once over 9f and she still looks to be on the upgrade. Was also a close third on her penultimate start to Sea Lord who has since won a hot handicap and a Group 3 race in succesion. This is Noseda's only horse out today which is interesting. The Michael Jarvis trained runner Sajjhaa and seems like the most likely danger, she is lightly raced having only had the three runs, two of which in Class 1 races and this seems an easier task than her previous two so it will be interesting to see how she runs. This is the only runner on the card from the Jarvis stable. 1pt win Dance East @ 9/2 (VC Bet - BOG)

Re: Simmy's 2010 Flat Thread 13:45 York Hamish Mcgonagall has been having a fantastic 2010 to date. He has won 2 and placed in 2 handicaps from 5 runs in handicap company so far this season and was not disgraced when making the step up to group company last month. Is 5lbs higher than his last handicap win but on his form so far this season I wouldn't be surprised if he produced a career best to land this race. Has won over course and distance twice previously and he also acts in any ground so any rain won't be a problem for him as he has won on GS twice previously. Quest For Success should have a good chance of landing this race, alos 5lbs higher than his last winning mark and was 1st in 7 out of the stand-side runners LTO at Ripon on Saturday. 1pt E/W Hamish Mcgonagall @ 10/1 (>Bet365 - BOG)
