Eurovision Song Contest 2004

Recommended Posts

Right i know it's gay to like the Eurovision but we've found it a great betting medium the last two years. Last year slick and myself and others were on Turkey @ 25/1 and they won it on the last vote. It's a good Saturday night in slagging of our fellow europeans whilst getting pissed and then the voting last an hour and can be a bit tense. So get the family involved BEFORE the tourny by getting them to listen to ALL the songs and we'll all pool our resources again this year and get some handy readies for the next days Sunday Football. Right when is it?

Two consecutive draws were held yesterday in Istanbul, the host of the 49th Eurovision Song Contest, to determine the running-order for the Semi-Final and the Final. The dual event is organized by TRT (Turkish Radio Television). 2004 heralds a brand new format for the live contest: a Semi-Final on Wednesday 12 May and a Final on Saturday 15 May. A total of 36 countries will be taking part. The Semi-Final will comprise 22 countries in the following order: SEMI FINAL (May, 12th) 1. Finland 2. Belarus 3. Switzerland 4. Latvia 5. Israel 6. Andorra 7. Portugal 8. Malta 9. Monaco 10. Greece 11. Ukraine 12. Lithuania 13. Albania 14. Cyprus 15. F.Y.R. Macedonia 16. Slovenia 17. Estonia 18. Croatia 19. Denmark 20. Serbia & Montenegro 21. Bosnia & Herzegovina 22. Netherlands Ten of these will go on to the Final. A third draw will be held live immediately after the Semi-Final to decide the running-order of the qualifying semi-finalists. The Final will then comprise 24 countries: 10 qualifiers from the Semi-Final and 14 that have already secured their places. The 14 countries are: France, Germany, Spain and the UK (the four largest countries in the contest), Turkey (the 2003 winner) plus the nine other top-scoring countries in 2003: Austria, Belgium, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia and Sweden. At present the running-order for the Final is as follows: FINAL (May, 15th) 1. Spain 2. Austria 3. Norway 4. France 5. ---- (from semi final) 6. ---- (from semi final) 7. ---- (from semi final) 8. Germany 9. ---- (from semi final) 10. ---- (from semi final) 11. ---- (from semi final) 12. ---- (from semi final) 13. Belgium 14. Russia 15. ---- (from semi final) 16. ---- (from semi final) 17. Iceland 18. Ireland 19. Poland 20. United Kingdom 21. ---- (from semi final) 22. Turkey 23. Romania 24. Sweden
Mmm duaL format. Might be interesting trying to get the winner from the semi's at large odds. I'll go and see if any of the possible semi winners are any good.

Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2004 ta for the links komp but traditionally it`s not an event I do much research into. I`m more of an in running investor in this. i like to see the acts before I bet, an approach thats paid dividends in the past. looking forward to the thread on the night, it`s always good fun :nana :ok

I dont even know what any of our entries sound like let alone all johnny foreigners attempts. I think last year there was a site we could all go to to listen to all the entrys, anyone got any idea if its around this year? Jez

Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2004 Right lets kick off with the entrants so far from www.eurovisiondatabase.co.uk/2004/songs04.htm AUSTRIA austrai04small.jpgstatic.orf.at/events/media/10_tiebreak.mp3 K- Austrian Westlife pish! Dear dear i wanna top myself :( On second listening it could be there-abouts. G- A good tune. Dont understand it but a good tune none the less. A definate melody. Strong vocals and great backing, he makes the song his own. BELGIUM belgium04_small.jpgfreespace.virgin.net/geoff.harrison/xandee.wmv K- Sounds more like a Turkish entry. Terrible in-fact. G- Wouldnt even play it in Aia Napa. Awful. FRANCE france04small.jpgwww.eurovisionfrance.com/media/a-chaque-pas.mp3 K :lol :lol :lol oh dear. Well im passing on this one. I cant take no more arrrghhh...! G - No differant from any other French entry, give me earmuffs NOW! GERMANY germany04small.jpgmembers.lycos.co.uk/melasolutions/songs04annex.htm K - Barry Manilow on glue. Not bad, in English but i think even i could do better. Depends on performance on night but mid-table for me. It gets worse as it goes on though. G - Barry White wannabe fails miserably. Dreadfull. High note cringer. ICELAND iceland04small.jpg (no link yet) IRELAND ireland04small.jpg (no link yet) NORWAY norway04small.jpgfreespace.virgin.net/geoff.harrison/norway04.wmv K- I had high hopes for the boy but he's just let me down aswell as himself. Crap actually and its now turned iritating. Some bad key changes. G - Pleasant lyrics. Repetative. Fcukin awful actually. POLAND tatyana.jpghomepage.ntlworld.com/waterloo/2004/blue%20cafe%20-%20love%20song.wmv K - I'm a little scared :( Oh deary me. This is actually quite good now in the novelty factor. Fcuk im gettin into it :( G - Is there something wrong with the sound on this comp? Why is it all drawn out agony on the ears? Time for tea methinks.. SPAIN ramonsmall.jpghomepage.ntlworld.com/waterloo/2004/ramon-para_llenarme_de_ti.wmv K - I hate it and so will the rest of Europe. It is a happy dancy party song but nope nope nope. G- Catchy Latino tune. Ricky Martin wannabe. Too Latino to win. TURKEY athenaleadsmall.jpghomepage.ntlworld.com/waterloo/2004/athena%20-%20for%20real.wmv K - This is great, a Turkish cockney song. Maybe he's from Highbury. Sunds like Robert Smith of the cure meets The Streets. A bit of ska in there too. Can't see Europe liking it though. G - Reminiscant of late 70's punk that failed dismally in the charts. Madness MkII with less members. UK uk04small.jpgfreespace.virgin.net/geoff.harrison/uk04.wmv G- He's alone, playing the guitar, enjoying what he's doing and has a smile to rival Marti Pellow at his best. A definate candidate. K - A defo e/w bet. Nice song that will translate well. Britain giving it their best after last years debarcle. ROMANIA romania04small.jpgmembers.lycos.co.uk/melasolutions/romania04.wmv K - Nice lips but shame what comes out them. Would do better in porno films imo. Next! G - Bury her with top soil now! Move on Now! RUSSIA russsia04small.jpg (No link yet) SWEDEN sweden04small.jpgmembers.lycos.co.uk/melasolutions/sweden04.wmv K - Is she drunk? Wtf is she on about. Murder. Nice thrupenny bits mind. G - In total silence would just look good. Awful.

Re: Eurovision Will have a look at these while keeping an eye on the Speedway. I know how to have a good time, me. Still, I did spend 3 hours the other night on the 1901 census for my dad so whilst it was very interesting, this is heaven compared :D

Eurovision Song Contest 2004 @#%$ Comp but great fun, me and me laddo made a killing last yr and i even remember dancing on the table because the final round was so tense and Turkey came up trumps after we thought they had fcuked it. Was the same sort of feeling as when ure team scores a winning goal in the dying seconds of an important match. If i remember rightly Komp u were watching with ure Nephew and promised him the earth if Turkey won @ the end as they seemed to have no chance:lol I'll review the songs in the week and remember the good songs dont always make it as there are a lot of countries from eastern europe now who seem to like the Dinga linga bing bong type music. So something middle of the rd normally does well.

Re: Bet 365 Your middle of the road might be the way Slick. Last year i quite fancied (worrr missues) the Norwegian dude who played a bit of the old Joanna. finished third i think in the end up. I see Austria possibly in the same vein. think they'll give a good show too. Here's some more- FINLAND Sod it im off to bed.

Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2004 I backed the Norwegian dude last year Komp (finished 4th), and the Austrian fellow that finished just outside the top 3 (6th) at 250/1. I've only managed to listen to half of the above, will do some more later but if you look out for songs in the English language as your starting base you won't go far wrong. :ok

Eurovision Song Contest 2004 Hi Komp yes still dabbling, going through a period of getting 'done' by late goals (had Morton to bet Alloa last night) Also like a dabble on Eurovision, but have to make sure the wifes out and the kids tucked up in bed!

Eurovision Song Contest 2004 Ireland havent a chance, I remember we were among th efavourites last year and came 13th or something but with the neighbouring countries all voting for each other, coupled with Irelands dull-ish song, and the singer coming from a pop-idol type show all I can say is lay Ireland.

Eurovision Song Contest 2004 I havent heard the Irish entry yet Irish but will have too. The fella looks a bit dull too and as you say i think they just make Ireland and UK favs for their past performances. I'm just trying to locate voting patterns (ie Turkey votes for Germany but not Greece) over the last few years and came across an Eastern Bloc alternative to the euro. Gonna see if there is any clues there but im finding it hard to read. Any help? www.bart.sopot.pl/sopot_f...hiwum.html

Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2004 Found something but not a lot so far.

the given points during the years 1982 - 1998. In these conclusions I took into considerations only the countries which have participated at least 8 times during 1982 - 1998. So the countries which are not included: Bosnia, Croatia, Estonia, Hungary, FYR Macedonia, Lithuania, Monaco, Morocco, Poland, Rumania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia & Yugoslavia. Most Beloved ESC Country IRELAND Ireland is the favourite country of 6 different nations, which have given the most points to Ireland. The most enthusiastic fan is Sweden with the average points of 7,6 a year. Least liked ESC Country GREECE So Turkey isn't anymore the least liked country. This is mainly because of Sebnem popular songs. 4 countries have given the least points to Greece. The least points has given Ireland, 0,1 a year. Most fanatic fan CYPRUS Cyprus has given the most of its points to the same country. This happy country is Greece. Cyprus gives even 10,9 points to Greece every year! Best points-connection CYPRUS-GREECE - The best points connection is between Cyprus and Greece. Cyprus gives 10,9 points to Greece a year and Greece to Cyprus 9,3 points. Worst points-connection CYPRUS-TURKEY - The worst points connection is between Cyprus and Turkey, whicg have never given points to each others in 1982-1998! Best neighbourg NORWAY Norway is the country which gives the most points to its neighbourgs. The happiest neighbourg is Sweden, which gets 7,6 points from Norway a year. The second most points has Denmark, which receives 6,6 points a year. Denmark and Norway have not a common frontier border on the surface, but the distance by the sea isn't long. The third happiest neighbourg is Russia, which has 4,7 points a year. Norway has also been a good neighbourg to Finland. We have received our fifth most points from Norway. What a neighbourg indeed!
Indeed! This could be handy for when the Match Betting comes in.

Eurovision Song Contest 2004 This could be a wee bit handy for the in-running mob like Ian and his in-runnin' croonies.

(10) Israel 8.476 178/21 11. (11) United Kingdom 8.462 220/26 12. (13) Finland 8.458 203/24 14. (20) Bosnia-Hercegowina 8.22 74/9 15. (15) Norway 8.19 213/26 16. (14) Portugal 8.15 220/27 16. (24) Turkey 7.46 179/24 24. (25) Luxembourg 7.39 133/18 25. (26) Greece 7.35 169/23 26. (23) Spain 7.31 212/29 27. (27) Cyprus 7.19 151/21 28. (22) Iceland 7.188 115/16 29. (29) Hungary 7.00 28/4 30. (28.) Malta 6.79 95/14 31. (30) France 6.33 171/27 32. (31) Italy 5.56 89/16 33. (34) Romania 5.20 26/5 34. (32) FYR Macedonia 5.00 15/3 35. (33) Slovakia 4.33 13/3 36. (35) Croatia 4.00 44/11 37. (36) Monaco 2.80 14/5 38. (--) Ukraine 2.00 2/1 38. (37) Morocco 0.00 0/1
Maybe this tells me that what the Swiss like could be a good e/w selection. How will we know how the Swiss vote till it's too late? If they vote early though....

Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2004 Good stuff Komp, i think ure previous stats post could come in handy near the end of the comp especially seeing as though like last yr the comp on betfair is 'in running'. I may aswell listen to a few entries seeing as though im off work tomorrow and stayed up for some late night CoD but every fcukers gone to bed.:rolleyes

Eurovision Song Contest 2004 listened to the first 2. Both seem to be rip off's of chart songs that i cant put my finger on but will do once i'm wide awake and sober. The Austrian track is defo a contender and will appeal to the wider audience as it actually grows on you but i spent to much time trying to figure out what it was ripping off rather than the song. Which is just aswell as i dont understand fcuking german. Belgium: like Komp says very Turkeyesque but after 20 sec knaws on the fcuking brain, probabaly going for the home vote But sung in English so no fcuking Chance like ours as we aint the flavour of the month like last yr. This ones ripping another song off, fcuked if i can think of it but im 99% sure it was a bird that did it., can see the face but just cant place it @ the mo.

Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2004 Back up to the top little Eurovision thingy! Anyone know how the voting is done for the Semi Final. Is it the same 'juries' that vote on the Final, if it is they will have already 'ranked' the 10 qualifiers for the semi Still downloading the songs, (I think I need broadband!) Regards Fletco

Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2004 Been listening to these over trhe weekend and checking the bookies prices am at a loss. Belgium currently favs but it grates and is in the middle of the running order. That said, they have a dancing girl and I mised out on Turkey last year as I only saw the video and the performance on the night was outstanding, belly dancers and all. On a first listen, the German record is the value at 16/1. This little ballad which then morphs horrible into a power ballad reminiscent of Scorpion/Whitesnake in the 80s before coming back down again to a manageable level. Performance on the night will be key as it contains a high note that a) shouldn't be there and b) he can't hit. If he sings it an octave lower on the night this could take it. Will post more shite re the Greatest Show on Earth later :ok
