I'm off to the Rose Bowl tomorrow so I'll do my bets now. 2 of them. Top bat is a win only top bat. 10pts Hampshire to beat Sussex 11/8 Boylesports Hampshire come into this match bottom of the Pro40 table while Sussex have won 3 matches to come into the game in 2nd place. Sussex however have a couple of key men missing for this match. Hampshire will be without Chris Tremlett who is now on England duty but look to be at full strength other than that thanks to England under 19's releasing Liam Dawson. John Crawley could well partner Michael Lumb at the top of the order again but Sean Ervine could still come in for the out of form Crawley while Mascarenhas, having been snubbed by England will skipper the Hawks. Sussex will be without their 2 main players in Matt Prior and Luke Wright. Ben Brown will keep wicket while Ragheb Aga is likely to be Luke Wright's replacement. Losing those two though significantly damages Sussex's batting lineup. With the ball, they have a real tendency to go round the park. Mushtaq Ahmed is in the squad but whether he'll be risked remains to be seen. Martin-Jenkins, Kirtley, Liddle and Rayner will form the bowling attack. The lights aren't a factor at the Rose Bowl as there are 6 permanent pylons but Sussex's missing duo are a big loss. Hampshire aren't as bad a side as their results in this have suggested and I think they can climb off the bottom of the table with a win. 6pts M.Lumb Top Hampshire Batsman 9/2 Boylesports In two completed matches in Pro40 this season Michael Lumb has top scored both times for Hampshire. He's hit half centuries in both of those matches too so he's in good nick. Lumb top scored in the match between these two at the Rose Bowl in the twenty20 cup and is easily Hampshire's best one day batsman. The South African born left hander gets better and better and I think he's well worth a punt to top the Hampshire run chart again in this match.

Re: Cricket: Natwest Pro40 2008

I guess Chris Adams had not read this thread before choosing to bowl first.
Either that or he knows he's favourite to be our next coach and didn't want us dropping into the 2nd division ;). I'm not overly sure it got harder under lights anyway, I just thought we bowled better and in Tahir always had the most likely matchwinner with the ball. As soon as I opened the Racing Post yesterday I knew Lumb wasn't going to top score. Max Oram has to be one of the worst tipsters going around. He even tipped Lumb each way when each way wasn't available and still lost! Conditions went against Lumb really but without Wright and Prior Hampshire were always overpriced for that match. +7.75pts for the night which takes the tally for the competition to +53.92pts.

2 for me today. 10pts Middlesex to beat Lancashire 11/10 Ladbrokes Middlesex are still being underrated as a one day side. Lancashire last week were bowled out for just 84 by Worcestershire yet they are still favourites for this match! Middlesex will be without Owais Shah which on the face of it won't help much but that didn't bother them in the twenty20 group stage. Lancashire will obviously be without Andrew Flintoff and Jimmy Anderson who are with Shah on England duty. Middlesex beat Lancashire in the twenty20 quarter final and I believe they are a better one day side that Lancashire so will take them at odds against. 10pts Northants to beat Surrey 10/11 Boylesports Northants come into this match having lost their 1st 3 matches but there was enough in their last match against Warwickshire to suggest a win isn't far away. Surrey have only won one game from 4 matches and that was against an inconsistent Derby side. Often when Surrey can't do much in competitions they blood the youngsters which is what they did against Essex. I expect that philosophy to continue today. Northants have a good one day lineup they just haven't got over the line much recently but they are likely to be at full strength today and I think they'll pick up their 1st win.

Re: Cricket: Natwest Pro40 2008 No good with Northants today. Their top order got shot out as Surrey decided not to play the youngsters :wall. The Middlesex game was washed out so -10 today and back to +43.92pts. Kent vs Derbyshire tomorrow. I'm tempted to go with the away side because Kent looked proper dejected after yesterday but I'll decide on that later. It's not on TV and the forecast isn't the best either and a Derby win will pretty much give Essex the division so I might keep my powder dry until the TV game on Tuesday but if I do bet I'll come back with bets later this evening.

Re: Cricket: Natwest Pro40 2008 I'm glad I gave that a swerve :lol. Derbyshire felt the curse of Max Oram. TV game tomorrow is Nottinghamshire vs Durham.

I'll go with 2. 10pts Nottinghamshire to beat Durham 11/10 Boylesports It's top vs bottom at Trent Bridge in this day night clash. Nottinghamshire come into this match top of the table having won 3 of their 4 matches so far. Durham are bottom having won only one match so far which was their opening match against Middlesex. Both sides are missing players on England duty. Nottinghamshire will be without Samit Patel, Stuart Broad, Ryan Sidebottom and Graeme Swann who are all on England duty. Adam Voges has left for home too. Ashwell Prince replaces Adam Voges as overseas player while Rob Ferley comes in to provide a spin option. Will Jefferson will open with Shafayat, Wagh and Wood forming the batting lineup. England cast off Darren Pattinson and Charlie Shreck will be the new ball pairing with Ealham and Adams backing them up. Durham will be without Paul Collingwood who is on England duty. They will be boosted by the return of Steve Harmison after he was meant to rest last week. Michael di Venuto and Phil Mustard open an inconsistent batting lineup. Will Smith, Shivnerine Chanderpaul who has offered little in his stint as overseas player and Dale Benkenstein make up the batting. Liam Plunkett, Graham Onions and Gareth Breese will make up the bowling. The lights at Trent Bridge are permanent and there's 6 of them but they don't look the best. The circular shape of them puts me off. The ball will swing here anyway but it could do cartwheels under lights. There's not many times that top will be odds against when playing bottom so I'll take advantage by backing Notts here. 2pts ew L.Plunkett Top Durham Batsman 25/1 Boylesports (1/4 1,2,3) Liam Plunkett has already top scored in one of these day night matches for the Dynamoes this season. He also placed in his only other innings. Looking at the likely lineup I would expect Plunkett to come in at number 8 although he could go up to 7 should the situation dictate it. The boundaries at Trent Bridge aren't the biggest so I'm not worried about him coming in and needing to score quickly. He's a big hitter anyway so that's fine. He can bat naturally if Durham bat 2nd and get stuck in a hole and at 25/1 he looks great ew value.

Re: Cricket: Natwest Pro40 2008 Story of two collapses there. Notts' one was one of the worst I've suffered for a while. How they lost that they probably don't even know. Once again the Max Oram curse strikes. Still at least it means Hampshire are guaranteed to win their championship match this week. Luckily Plunkett ran into a place so a +0.50pt profit on the night and +44.42pts overall now.

Not sure how much play we'll get but I quite like Yorkshire even at odds on. 10pts Yorkshire to beat Derbyshire 8/13 Betfred Yorkshire come into this match chasing down Kent in 2nd place. They've won two of their 1st 3 matches with the only loss coming against leaders Essex and a win here will put them just a point behind Kent. Derbyshire look out of the promotion race after their annihilation by Kent earlier in the week. A performance the Phantoms coach John Morris described as embarassing. Derbyshire will be hoping to bounce straight back but it's going to be hard to recover from falling to 60 all out on a pitch in which they chose to bat 1st on. Chris Rogers has now taken over as skipper and will lead the batting with the likes of Wavell Hinds, Greg Smith and Rikki Clarke backing him up. Charl Langeveldt has had a good season with the ball as has Graham Wagg. Yorkshire will be without Tim Bresnan who is away with England but Matthew Hoggard, Rana Naved and Darren Gough are all expected to play. Deon Kruis is likely to make up the 4th seamer unless Gough goes in with two spinners. Anthony McGrath and Jacques Rudolph will lead the batting lineup with youngsters Adam Lyth and Andrew Gale assisting them. Derby took a hell of a bashing on Monday which has to take them a while to get over. Yorkshire have been a pretty decent one day side all season and even though there's the day night element in this match I just think Yorkshire will be way too strong and will side with the White Rose side.

Re: Cricket: Natwest Pro40 2008 I seem to have been backing Anthony McGrath as an each way bet to nothing all season, but I am changing horses tonight. RANA NAVED Top Yorks Bat. 10/1 Boylesports (e/w 1/4 1.2.3) He will bat at 3. Difficult to know how Derbyshire will bat tonight, but if they dont get too many batting first the Yorkshire top bat will only have 4 or 5 runners at the most, so 10/1 about the bloke who will be swinging the bat at number 3 is good value. My biggest regret of the season is not backing Naved in his first game for the Yorkies in the floodlit game v Essex when he did top score at a big price, so I am not making the same mistake again. Bet365s 28/1 about Graham Wagg for Derby is a tempter. Again, I will be looking for a poor Derby batting show to be rescued by their number 7. 28/1 is slight value so I will have a minimum wager on that as well.

Re: Cricket: Natwest Pro40 2008 Somerset vs Gloucestershire is the TV match today. I'm running a bit late so no detailed write up. 10pts Gloucestershire to beat Somerset 6/4 Bet365 As I've said all summer, Somerset don't have anything like a bowling attack. Take Charl Willoughby out of it and it's very expensive. Their batting lineup is hit and miss too. Gloucestershire aren't much better with the ball in their hands but they do have quality in the likes of Jon Lewis, Steve Kirby and Mark Hardinges. The big boost for the Gladiators is that Craig Spearman returns this afternoon having been out for almost 2 months. Gloucestershire are at full strength and should go well against a Somerset side who've lost 3 of their 5 matches.

Re: Cricket: Natwest Pro40 2008

Just had a little go on Gloustershire at 4.5. Massive run change but this bowling is awful and runs very easy at this ground so far.
Just gone off for rain with Gloustershire absolutely pissing it and ahead on D/L. I've layed off @ 1.20 just incase something weird happens later on.

Re: Cricket: Natwest Pro40 2008 Nothing weird happened. Gloucestershire won by 12 runs in a great game of creekit. Somerset can't complain too much because Gloucester would've chased the original total down anyway I think. +15 for the day and now +57.50 for the competition after the small loss on Yorkshire on Thursday. Middlesex vs Hampshire is the TV game tomorrow. There's some non TV games too. I'll be back with bets shortly. Will be looking for bets on the TV game as I'm off to Lords to watch it.

I'm going with 3 for Sunday. 2 in the TV game and one away from the cameras. 10pts Hampshire to beat Middlesex 11/10 Bet365 Hampshire come into this match having won their last two matches against Sussex and Somerset and a win here would not only take them to the top of the table but it would put them right in the mix for the Pro40 title. Middlesex haven't played in this for a while because their last match was washed out so they are 2nd from bottom coming in here but they have lots of games in hand. Middlesex will be without Owais Shah who is on England duty. Andrew Strauss is back with the Crusaders though which should be a boost. Tyron Henderson is still available for Middlesex while Shaun Udal will play against his old side again. Murali Kartik will team up with him with spin. Ed Joyce continues to captain the side with Ed Smith still out. Hampshire have suddenly hit some form and it's likely that they will field the side which beat Somerset last week. Liam Dawson has made a big difference to the Hawks with his all round capabilities and Jimmy Adams gave the side a much needed boost at the top of the order with runs last week. Sean Ervine could come into the side for Greg Lamb in what would be the only change as Chris Tremlett is away with England. Since Paul Terry announced he was leaving as coach and Giles White took main control of the side Hampshire's results have been boosted. Talk of Duncan Fletcher replacing Paul Terry is helping spirits too. I just feel Middlesex's batting isn't as strong as it was earlier in the season. The younger players aren't contributing as much as they did while Hampshire's batting is finally coming together. Both sides have good bowling attacks so Hampshire's extra batting form and depth could be what sees them home. 5pts ew M.Carberry Top Hampshire Batsman 9/2 Boylesports (1/4 1,2,3) Michael Carberry has been excellent all season long in one day cricket for the Hawks. His consistency has been his main asset, scoring plenty of half centuries. He hit 4 half centuries in the twenty20 cup to go with a couple of half centuries in the Friends Provident at the start of the season and he has a pair of half centuries to his name in Pro40 from his 5 matches. Only Michael Lumb has scored more runs than Carberry who will bat at number 3 in this match. Carberry hit an unbeaten 81 in the Championship on Friday so he comes into this match in decent nick and looks a very good ew bet to nothing here. 10pts Worcestershire to beat Durham 6/5 Stan James Defending champions Worcestershire Royals take on Durham Dynamos knowing they need to win to ease themselves away from the relegation zone. They are only down there because they have played less games than everyone else though. Such is how close this league is, a loss for Durham could put them right in the relegation dogfight. Worcestershire have announced a strong squad with only Matt Mason and Simon Jones missing out. Kabir Ali, who is in excellent form at the minute will lead the bowling attack with Gareth Batty and Gareth Andrew backing him up. Steven Davies is in great nick with the bat in this competition and Vikram Solanki is always quality. Graeme Hick and Ben Smith still churn out lots of runs in the middle order. Durham will be without Steve Harmison who is now out of one day retirement and playing for England. Paul Collingwood is allowed to play though to get some game time before he steps back into the England side on Tuesday. Callum Thorp or Neil Killeen will come in form Harmison. Shivnerine Chanderpaul will open the innings for Durham with Phil Mustard. Durham only beat Notts because of a bizarre collapse from the Outlaws. Worcester know how to win matches in this competition and Durham's pace attack shouldn't be too devastating on what is usually a flat, tennis ball bouncy track at New Road. Worcester seem to be very underrated this season but they'll be full of confidence having pretty much secured promotion in the Championship and I'll go for them to win this one at a very good price.

Re: Cricket: Natwest Pro40 2008 I was indeed. I knew about 1.20 that Hampshire would win when I got a text from mdivenuto telling me Max Oram in the Racing Post recommended 3pts on Middlesex :lol:lol. Carberry never got going while Worcester weren't really ever in that match. Hampshire won though to go top of the table. -9 on the day so back to +48.50 for the competition. Lots of fixtures tomorrow and I'll be back with bets in the morning.

Re: Cricket: Natwest Pro40 2008 Another loser for Max! The travelling circus that is the Lancashire Lightning travel to Hove for another day nighter. Sussex are a tempting 8/11 against a team nearly as overrated as Surrey. However, it is the top bat where I am putting my money. G CHAPPLE Top Lancs Bat 25/1 (1/5 odds 1.2.3) Coral [Also 20/1 1/4 odds 1.2.3 with Boyle if Coral are reluctant to take your bet] Lancashires batting is erratic to say the least. Chapple top scored in their last pro40 game with 23 batting at 8, and also top scored in the first innings of the championship game at Kent in the week. I am sure Mike Watkinson is going to need to rethink his strategy for this game with no Mal Loye. I suspect Gareth Cross may open the batting, but am hopeful that Chapple may get shoved up the order. He did bat at 3 earlier in the Pro40 without success but is in form so may get another go there. Even if he is down the order we have seen so many inept batting efforts and Kyle Hogg has done the business at least once down the order so I am more than happy with 25/1.

I'm going with 4 today. I'm pretty certain Sussex will win the TV game but with Hampshire currntly top of the table I'll be cheering on Lancashire :lol. I won't be taking Sussex at 4/6 anyroad. 2 top bats in the TV game though and 2 match bets in division 2. Bit rushed for time though so no massive write ups. I'll leave the TV game til last as it's the late game. 10pts Derbyshire to beat Leicestershire Evs Boylesports Both these sides look like they are playing for pride as they both look too far adrift of the promotion shake up. Derbyshire though after getting bashed up by Kent came back really well against Yorkshire even if they were somewhat fortunate that Rana Naved bowled like a twat. Leicestershire haven't won a game this season yet and while putting runs on the board isn't a problem, stopping them seems to be a big problem. I expect a high scoring game here but with Derby probably having the more reliable bowlers if Langeveldt plays and Wagg and Doshi supporting them I'll take the Phantoms at Evens. 10pts Glamorgan to beat Northants 6/5 Boylesports Glamorgan got beaten up by Essex yesterday but I'm pretty confident they can bounce back to beat Northants who have gone pear shaped in a big way in this competition. Glamorgan's bowling attack on paper looks very good with Gillespie and Harris being well backed up by Wharf, Cosker and Croft. Northants will be without their wicket keeper and big hitting opener Niall O'Brien who is playing for Ireland today so Riki Wessels will take the gloves. I would imagine with Northants bottom of the table they will stick a couple of youngsters in today and Glamorgan, who it seems to have gone unnoticed are 3rd in the table, can take advantage and go above Kent into 2nd place. Now the TV top bats. 3pts ew S.Croft Top Lancashire Batsman 8/1 Boylesports (1/4 1,2,3) I've lost count of the amount of times I've loaded a Lancashire scorecard up this season to find them 40 odd for 4 and Francois du Plessis and Steven Croft then have to rescue them from the brown stuff. Steven Croft is a pretty decent player. He'll take a while to get in and will nudge it around for a while but when it's time to give it a bit of tap he's well capable of doing so and at 8/1 in a Lancashire lineup which doesn't have Mal Loye today and may not have Stuart Law either, 8/1 is a very big price with two youngsters likely to be playing. 2pts ew R.Martin-Jenkins Top Sussex Batsman 25/1 Coral (1/5 1,2,3) Robin Martin Jenkins is overpriced here. He's a genuine all rounder down the order. He'll come in at 7 or 8 in this match but how often have we seen sides 70/5 in this competition? In fact Sussex were like it last time they were on TV against Hampshire. Martin-Jenkins top scored against Lancashire in the Championship and also top scored against Surrey in the Championship last week so he is in decent nick. He can give it a biff when he needs to but if Sussex are in trouble when he comes in he could well go in at a decent price.

Re: Cricket: Natwest Pro40 2008 Mixed day today. Only Glamorgan won for me. Derbyshire should've won but fell 6 short with an over to spare :eyes. No joy for the top bats. Neither could top score when they came in anyway so -8 for the day and back to +40.50 for the competition. Next game is Wednesday which is Gloucestershire vs Middlesex in front of the Sky cameras.

Re: Cricket: Natwest Pro40 2008 Lancs top order was slightly better, but i dont think they will be staying up. Away days at the Riverside and Trent Bridge and a game v Somerset at Liverpool. I think they will be joining Surrey in Division 2. Glad Yardy did not cop, I was pretty tempted by him but left him alone. Delighted to see Goodwin overtake him at the end.

Don't they know it would've been winner takes all at the Bowl next Monday? And we've got some unfinished business to deal with regarding your lot and trophies ;).

Re: Cricket: Natwest Pro40 2008 Its difficult to concentrate on a relegation battle like gloucs v middlesex when the title decider Hants v Durham is looming up on the horizon!!!!!! However there does seem a bit of value in the Middlesex top bat market, will have a further study up in the morning and come back. Kev, any idea if Scott was listed to bat at 3 on Sunday or was it a late move up the order to combat early seam movement or something?

Re: Cricket: Natwest Pro40 2008 I will have a go with Ben Scott 8/1 each way with Boyles. if he bats 3 then he is overpriced, if he bats lower down then hopefully he will get a chance to place before the end. I was wondering if Udal will be given a go up the order, but not risking the bet.

Sorry mate, never came online after the footy last night and was out all day. You already know by now but he was due to bat 3 anyway on Saturday. You'd have thought it would've been Henderson or like you say Shaggy but they shoved Scott up. I'd have liked to have seen Malan go in at 3.

Somerset v Worcestershire (16:10BST) 1.662.50100.00 % Details »
Just one for me tomorrow night. Both sides score most of their runs in their top 3 and Corals are cleverer than Boyles and don't have any of the top 3 anything like an ew price. Taunton isn't really the place to go searching down the order either else Gareth Andrew might have been a shout for top bat. Just a match bet for me. 10pts Worcestershire to beat Somerset 6/4 Totesport This is a massive match for both sides. Somerset in 6th place host Worcestershire in 7th place with both sides knowing the loser of this match will be looking very much over their shoulders at the relegation trapdoor. At best the losers here look set for the playoff. Neither side come here in good form either. Somerset failed to defend over 330 in their last match while Durham beat Worcester with 10 overs to spare on Sunday. Somerset will probably go with the same side which lost to Gloucestershire on Saturday. Ben Phillips could return but I would expect the same team. We saw Somerset in all their glory on Saturday. Superb with the bat and shocking with the ball. Marcus Trescothick is in seriously good form with the bat though and should ensure once again that the bowling attack has a score to defend. Arul Suppiah and Omari Banks look set to provide the spin on what I expect to be a used pitch as I'm pretty sure this match will be played on the same wicket as Saturday's one. Worcestershire are defending champions in this competition so they have the pedigree to win matches. Steven Davies is in excellent form in the competition and he and Solanki will be important at the top of the order. Graeme Hick and Ben Smith will form a very experienced middle order. Gareth Batty will be key with the ball if this is a used wicket, especially with the Royals being without Kabir Ali and Simon Jones for this one. Somerset simply can't win matches with this bowling attack. Worcestershire are nothing like at full strength but they still have enough in their batting to outscore Somerset. The lights at Taunton will have an effect. They won't be very good and if Worcester bat 1st, as ever 6/4 will look huge. There's more than enough to convince me to back the reigning champions at 6/4.
