  1. Re: County Championship 2013 Cheers. Absolutely delighted and also amazed. Will be a tough ask to retain the title next season mind, not convinced that we should be favourites.
  2. Re: County Championship 2013 A 10/1 place and a 40/1 winner in one post. Not bad!
  3. Re: County Championship 2013 Can't resist a nibble on Notts at evens, but my bigger bet for the week is Middlesex at Evens v Sussex. Slight negative that they were playing late last night, but overall I just rate Middlesex as a superior side to Sussex, and with home advantage the evens is a no brainer. I'm also topping up my ante-post positions. Middlesex are 7/2 now are plenty shorter than at the season start, but I still think they are a bet now. Rogers leaving soon is a blow, but Voges is an excellent replacement, and despite concerns about the middle order batting, I just keep coming back to this bowling attack and can't find one to match it. I just can't have Sussex or Yorks as real contenders come the business end of the season, and much as I would love to see Durham win it, I would be surprised. Which leaves who else? Notts? Warks? Surely not Somerset, and definitely not the other 2. Of the other prices, Warks each-way at 10s is the only other price to interest me, with Barker back in the attack, although I've been disappointed with them so far this season and could well be throwing good money after bad having another pop.
  4. Re: County Championship 2013 Incredibly competitive set of games in Div 1 this week. On best prices we have 2 games Evs v Evs, and 2 games Evs v 10/11!
  5. Re: County Championship 2013 Surprised to see Middlesex as big as 6/5 to win in Birmingham. Not 100% sure of the injury situation with Clarke and Barker, but Warwickshire have Chopra, Woakes & Wright with the Lions so will be missing many of their big guns. No Roland-Jones for Middlesex, but they will be far closer to full strength than Warks. Away win for me.
  6. Re: Yorkshire Bank 40 2013 Cheers Marshy & Kev. I do think Lancs are a good bet at 4/5 to win today - not got the exact stats but I'm sure there is a massive difference in home/away performance in Durhams recent 40 over record - could have been just 1 win away last season off the top of my head. The only real thing going for Durham is that this is Lancs 1st 40 over game of the season and we saw Essex improve in their second game after a poor performance in their first.
  7. Re: Yorkshire Bank 40 2013 I notice that Ladbrokes suspended betting on Napier the other day after Kev's legion of followers must have piled on, so make sure you get in quick if he has any top bat picks where they are top price!
  8. Re: Yorkshire Bank 40 2013 Bit of a recurring theme with my bets, but I've got to back Ben Stokes at 11/2 to top score for Durham tomorrow. Couple of carrots being dangled with both openers available at 4s in a place, but Stokes should be batting at 3 for the one-dayers and remains the best batsman in the team.
  9. Re: County Championship 2013 And just had the bet that will secure my retirement fund at Coral. Stokes Top Division 1 bat 50/1 Ali Top Division 2 bat 40/1 Each-way double, I've out-lined by love of Stokes above, and can't argue with Kev's assessment of Ali's chances.
  10. Re: County Championship 2013 Couple of top bowlers in division one to add: Palladino 33/1 & Rushworth 40/1 each-way at 365 (only 4 places unfortunately) Similar reasoning for both - stay fit and in form and we are getting 16 games out of both as I can't imagine England will come calling for either, and neither Durham or Derby have the same rotation policy for the seamers employed by some other counties. Playing on seamer friendly wickets with low totals likely, particularly early season, is a big boost, and at the price both look very worth an each-way shot to me.
  11. Re: County Championship 2013 Hoping to be able to spend a bit more time on this thread this summer, as it has been only the occasional visit here for me the last 18 months or so. Very excited that the new season is here again already, and even more excited about my best bet for the Summer, which is: Top Durham Batsman: Ben Stokes (4/1 with Boyles - Stan James & Coral 7/2) He had his problems over the winter with a fondness for a light ale in Australia, but that plays right into our hands with this wager. He'd have to rack up 1000 runs AND 30 wickets by the end of May to have a sniff of getting back into the England set-up this summer. Stokes remains a class act, and showed he is in the right frame of mind with a ton last week, albeit against the students. The other big plus for this bet is that the rest of Durham's batting line-up isn't exactly brimming with strength. Jennings & Stoneman will I'm sure improve, but at the moment can't be fancied for anything like the 1,000+ runs I expect Stokes to get, Benkenstein is the main danger but surely can't keep churning out the runs forever, then you have Collingwood who is a doubt for the first game tomorrow and will need to face twice the number of balls as Stokes to score the same number of runs. Will Smith or Gordon Muchall surely not, which just leaves Colonel Mustard who for all of his shots and quick scoring will be batting down at 7. I've also had a dabble on Stokes each-way to be top Division One runscorer at 50/1 with Coral, although it will be tough for the northern boy on the dodgy early season Riverside pitches to keep up with those playing on roads at the Oval and Taunton etc., and I don't recall that any Durham batsman has ever finished in the top 5 runscorers of the season, never mind topped the list.
  12. Re: Cricket: Clydesdale Bank 40 Great work from Blue Square's crickets traders. Rogers, Petersen, Sadler & Goddard all priced up in their top bat market. If they are as on the ball as that all season, it's nailed on there will be a fair few ricks coming from their direction
  13. Re: Cricket: County Championship 2011 I've concentrated my ante-post betting on the individual team markets which seem to me to have some amazing blunders in, so even allowing for hefty over-rounds there is value in the following: 4pts Top Middlesex bowler: T Murtagh 6/1 (VCbet) I really like Murtagh, and although its a strong old seam department at Middlesex, I cannot understand how Murtagh is twice the price of the other contenders. Surely if Finn takes wickets he will be back in the England line up for starters. Toby Roland-Jones finished the season strongly, but he will be looked after by Gus Fraser & I cant see him getting more than 35 wickets this year. How Anthony Ireland is shorter in the betting than Murtagh is a mystery. The big danger is new signing Corey Colleymore but at 6s Murtagh looks an absolutely blinding bet to me. 3pts Top Kent Batsman: M Van Jaarsveld 5/2 (Blue Sq/888) MVJ has been top Kent batsman the last 3 years, and was 2nd to an in-form Rob Key in 2007 in this market. Key had a poor year last year, as did Joe Denly. Geraint Jones has chances, but I guess Darren Stevens may be the biggest danger again. Overall though, 5/2 seems a great price in a market I was expecting no bigger than 7/4.
  14. Re: Cricket: County Championship 2011 Great to see the return of the County Season & all the betting opportunities that come with it. Some great food for thought (as always) already posted. As a Durham man, I certainly hope the big 7pts win tip cops. The ingredients are all there - I have slight concerns about how united the squad is and whether Harmison is motivated enough to be at the top of his game. Somerset are clearly the biggest challenge, but whether there is any value left in their price now is open to question.
  15. Re: Cricket: Twenty20 Cup 2009 Have not posted on here for a while and just as well as not having the greatest run at the moment but reckon I have unearthed some value for todays live game: M WALLACE 2 pts Top Glamorgan Bat 8/1 Totesport & Stan James Glamorgan are out and have a pretty flimsy batting line up with no overseas player. However, Wallace batted at 3 yesterday and am sure will do the same tonight. He has delivered down the order at a not much bigger price in the past, but batting at 3 is a huge advantage in a top bat market in a 20 over game. Dalrymple is rightly jolly but apart from him I think Wallace has as much chance as any and is overpriced at 8s Ashley NOFFKE 1 pt win Top Worcs Bat 33/1 Bet 365 Worcester seem 2 batsmen light, and if they get off to a poor start then this bet has a real chance. He came in at 6 yesterday, even if he is only in at 7 or 8 Noffke can hold a bat having scored 89 in the championship earlier this month. If Worcs have an off day he wont need to get anywhere near that. I know Worcs are right in the qualification mix and could end up running out easy winners, but this price just seems way too big for such a potentially flimsy batting line up and I will take a chance at double carpet 33/1
