Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October From the Tuesday matches I quite fancy taking Lyon. Both sides have failed to put points on the board so both are desperate to get them in this match but I think Lyon look the most likely at the moment to recover. Stuttgart took another thumping on Saturday at Hamburg. Although they were down to 10 men they were already 0:3 down at that point- an Olic hat trick in just over half an hour. They are on a shocking run at the moment and confidence must be low. Goals are not coming for them either. Lyon on the other hand are still not firing but still in my opinion look capable of getting back on track quickly. 9 goals in their last 3 games in Le Championnat and starting to put a run together. Good value in the away win here for me. Stuttgart tried to keep it tight against Barca but in this match they really must come out so it will be an open match and I think Lyon have more quality and confidence.

Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October Hi all, good luck with all bets this week. A couple of interesting encounters this week imo. Firstly, I watched Manchester Unied beat Villa at the weekend and to say the least I was impressed with thier ability to move the ball forward quicky. Villa made a few unforced errors to contribute to Manchester United's success but overall I feel they were simply a different class, this will also be the case in the Ukraine on Tuesday I feel. Ronaldo was rested and I feel he will feature in this game, along with Rooney, Nani, Giggs and Tevez I just feel Man U will have to much fire power for Dynamo. 1.67 is, in my opinion, reasonable odds as the Ukraine is a hard place to go to for any team however I fully expect a Manchester United Victory here. Secondly, I feel Werder are a great price. Werder currently sitting second in the Bundesliga host the Italians Lazio who are sitting 13th in the Seria A and have only won 2 games all season in the League. Werder sit bottom of their group in the Champions League and desperatly need a win here at home. I feel 1.91 for Werder to win this match in Germany is a very generous price for a game they have to win to keep their hopes of European football alive. May take a few more teams closer to kick off. All the best with all bets

Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October A few are tempting me this midweek. Liverpool have a must-win match in Besiktas following their shock 1-0 defeat at Anfield to Marseille. A defeat or draw here would leave them in big trouble in the group, already trailing leaders Marseille by 5 points. At 1.80 I think Liverpool are good value to beat Besiktas who have struggled thus far with two defeats. The derby victory over Everton will mean Liverpool will go into this game on a high and Benitez has them well drilled away from home in this competition. As a Celtic fan Benfica's odds of 2.05 seem very big. Celtic's away record in this competition has been well documented only picking up one point in their travels from 13 games and I don't see this changing. Celtic were blown away at the weekend losing 3-0 to Rangers with a patched up defence which could struggle in Lisbon, we are without a recognized right back and Gary Caldwell who is expected to start there has struggled in this position. However Scottish international Paul Hartley has travelled which would be a boost if he could start aswell as Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. Benfica have lost both games this far including a 0-1 defeat to Shakhtar a fortnight ago and will see this as a must win game to keep their hopes of European participation alive after Christmas. They have only won 1 game from the last 5 but I'm sure JC Tips from this board can fill us in on their form going into this game. In other games Chelsea look backable at odds of 1.53. After a poor start to the campaign drawing with Rosenborg, they were impressive in beating Valencia in the Mestalla and followed that up with wins over Bolton and Boro in the Premiership. Milan look opposable after their recent form and odds of 1.50 look a little skinny after their 0-1 home defeat to lowly Empoli at the weekend. Shakhtar have impressed me so far, blowing away Celtic on matchday one and following that up with a 1-0 victory in Lisbon. Milan haven't really got going in Serie A and Celtic were fully deserving of their victory over them a fortnight ago so I think a lay of Milan could be in order here against a very dangerous Shakhtar side.

Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October A gd few tempt me this wk in the midweek champions league coupon, although some bookmakers valuation of some fixtures appear to be way wide of the mark. Benfica v Celtic Firstly, although it pains me to say it, I cant see anything but a Benfica home win on Wednesday against a weakened celtic side. Celtic are currently strggling with injuries and this fact was painfully exposed on Saturday during the old firm derby. The team missed key players such as hartley in midfield, Brown was rushed back after oicking up a hamstring knock with Scotland, and we looked lightweight up front without the physical presence of jan vennegoor of hesselink. There are rumours circulating that these players are set to start on Wednesday night but the question must be asked about their fitness for what truely is a massive fixture in terms of celtic's european ambitions. Although Benifca are currently struggling in the section, I personally feel that this is the perfect oppurtunity for them to get their first 3 points of the campaign. This is a fixture which the Lisbon side won 3-0 last season and after watching celtic's inept performance on Saturday I fear a similar scoreline. Although a celtic away cl win is v duers, for me this is a home win and with benfica found at better than evens with most firms, the price is a steal. Prediction - Home win There are a few other bets that seem v appealing in the coupon. The first one which springs to mind is Shaktar Donetsk away to Milan. Although this is a game which Milan should win, their form in both Serie A and the cl is extremely poor. Shaktar have already shown this season in Europe that the pot 4 seeding that was bestowed upon them was shambolic and in no way reflects the quality of the side. They are of course the leaders of the section and deservedly so after 2 extremely convincing performances at home to Celtic (2-0, which was more like 6-0) and away to Benfica (0-1). As said earlier I feel the bookies have got their valuations of this game totally wrong and the fact that Shaktar are as big as 8-1 with some firms for this game is big enough for me to have a wee nibble. Rangers v Barcelona Barca should be strong enough to overcome Rangers, although Ibrox is a difficult place to go. Rangers will be on a high after their win on Saturday but will be without key men Hemdani and Darcheville for this huge fixture. Even without the likes of Deco and E'too Barca have enough quallity in their squad to come away from Ibrox leading Group E top of the table with maximum points. Prediction - Barca

Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October I would seriously look into laying Man Utd. Being a United fan myself, I usually find my sofa is the best place to watch our champions league away games and I always find a bad performance is never too far away, when away :). We normally scrape through, with help from our more Gutsy players ---> this is imporatant as Nemanja Vidic is said to be fit and starting, but I still think that we will not turn up, even though I am willing and hoping to be proved wrong.

Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October The most appealing odds this midweek are Benfica. They really need to win this one if they have any chance of making it through the groups after 2 defeats so far. Celtic still haven't won away from home in the CL and they put in an average performance against Rangers on Saturday. They do have a few players back from injury, however, I expect their troubles to continue away from home in the CL this week. Steve.

Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October Agree with the Benfica tip many people are looking to back due to Celtics' atrocious away form in Europe, plus the injuries Celtic have. My other main tip that nobody has mentioned is PSV at home to Fenerbahce. PSV need a win to overtake Fenerbahce in the group and to stand a greater chance of qualifying need to win their home games. PSV have a 100% record at home in the Dutch league and have beaten CSKA Moscow at home in the Champs Lge already, while Fenerbahce haven't won away in four games in the Turkish league and were fortunate to grab an away point to CSKA in this years Champs Lge. I definitely think there is great value in a home win with odds of 1.88. GL with your bets.

Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October StuttgartLyon

The champions from Germany and France are meeting in Stuttgart with goals to keep their hopes for advancing into the next stage, or taking the third place at least, a live. They had very slow starts of the season, both in domestic championship and in Champions League.

Lyon after the two starting losses in domestic championship, improved their game a lot and won 8 of their last 9 matches and they are unbeaten in 9 matches in a row, if we exclude the two defeats in Champions League from Barcelona and Rangers. Lyon is still without Coupet and Cris, but the forward Fred is fit again

Stuttgart became a champion last season in Germany and instead strengthening the squad they lost several players and brought some average players. I was pretty much convinced that this team cannot fight on two fronts and they proved me that I am right. Stuttgart is currently 14th in German Bundesliga, winning only at home against teams with poor quality like Cottbus, Duisburg and Bochum. In addition to their poor form, they have some important absences (Hitzlsperger, da Silva, Magnin and Boka) which will make this match even harder to them.

Both teams desperately needs points from this match, especially the host team, because if they lose this match, they will have only theory left if they want to go into the next round of Champions League. Stuttgart will try to get three points here and their strongest weapon is the attack line composed with Gomes and Cacao and they know that draw is not making any good to them and even more the weak, leaking defense will force them to decide the match with offense. Lyon also is having great attack, leaded by inform Benzema and they are attacking team also, so goals should not be a problem tonight. I rate Lyon a better team, team with better individuals, with better form and with absences that Stuttgart has, I rate them as favorites for this match.

Pick no.1: Lyon (0) --> Odds: 1.91 @ StanJames --> Stake: 5u Pick no.2: over 1.5 goal --> Odds: 1.38 @ Bwin --> Stake: 7u

Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October Hi everyone, followed the PL for almost a year now. Hope I could contribute somehow. Must admit I never had a good week betting on the CL since last October though. Anyway, onto the games. 1. Benfica seems to be the most favoured bet this week, I will bet on the home win as well, still with very reasonable stakes no matter how tasty the odds. I watched a couple of their games and the Eagles are simply not as good as they were, clearly missing the pace of Simao and the creativity of Micolli. True, Celtic are always the team to bet against in the CL, as of their missing players I doubt that the list will be THAT long, and as a rule the form in the domestic leagues makes me even more cautious. I simply can't forget that excellent defensive display of Celtic a couple of years ago at AC Milan's. My possible bets would be Under 2,5 goals( 7/10 ), HT-draw,FT- Benfica (3/10). Hope I am not wrong at these odds for a straight home win. 2. At first quite liked Barcelona to win at Ibrox, on the second thought it is a no bet for me - I imagine both teams to be very cautious as they won their first 2 games and a possible draw is on the cards. Barca certainly the better team, with key players missing though. A touch of magic from any of their offensive players might decide the game, but the Scotts must have watched the Villareal game, they showed they can battle back as they did vs Stuttgart and they play home. Maybe a small punt on Rangers +1, still I rather stay away. 3. My main 3 bets this week will be a straight win for PSV and Over 2,5 goals in both Roma and Stuttgart games ( 1,80/ 1,95 and 2,00 with bet365). I would love to see better odds on a PSV win, yet IMO the bookies got it right despite the good first 2 games of Fenerbahce. The Turks won at home vs Inter, but I do not rate Inter a top European team, the lack of strong domestic competition last year still showing. As of the draw away at CSKA I wouldn't call it luck, but the Russians are not as good as they were, and tired at the end of a hard season. A draw in Eindhoven would be a great bonus them and I think that is what they go ther for. PSV have a good advantage though - great experience in the group stage, they are tight at the back and excellent upfront, looking dangerous at home for 90 mins. Both Danko Lazovic and Danny Koevermans are just as good as Kone, top buys of the season. As of my Overs in the Roma and Stuttgart games my reasoning is simple. Roma in almost must win situation is the most dangerous Italian team, coming on the opponent in waves. At least 5 players on top of Totti could put their name on the score sheet at any time. Spalletti is famous for his tactical preparations, yet they are leaking goals, so it won't surprise me if Sporting score. Every set piece in this game will be a danger, I expect an Over 4,5 on the yellow cards as well (2,20). Both Stuttgart and OL will play to win no doubt, both with excellent striking force yet both vulnerable at the back. I can't imagine the Germans missing every single goalscoring chance as they did vs Barca, while from what I have seen from OL they look just as dangerous as ever and it is probably the lack of experience and luck that kept them "dry" vs Rangers. IMO none of the teams will hesitate for a second and goals will come both sides. Wish the odds for my picks were better yet I am being cautious in this league. My picks: PSV straight win 10/10 and PSV -1 3/10 at 3,60 Danko Lazovic to score at any time at 3,00 3/10 if he plays Roma-Sporting Over 2,5 goals 7/10 and Over 4,5 cards 5/10 Stuttgart-OL Over 2,5 goals 10/10 and a small punt on Simone Perotta to score at anytime at 3,75 Best of luck with your bets

Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October

Stuttgart – Lyon

Pick no.1: Lyon (0) --> Odds: 1.91 @ StanJames --> Stake: 5u Pick no.2: over 1.5 goal --> Odds: 1.38 @ Bwin --> Stake: 7u

actualy fred will miss the game positive
I read that he fully recovered from the injury, but maybe it won't be risked. Still, Benzema - Govou is dangerous tandem upfront and with Kallstrom, Keita and Jouninho behind them, the injury hit and out of form Stuttgart defense will have huge troubles

Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October Great post Niko and welcome to the forum,:) Tonight my tip is from the Champions League: PSV Eindhoven to beat Fenerbache in Group G These 2 teams are in the same group as CSKA Moscow and Inter Milan and is one of the tougher groups in this season’s competition. Fenerbache lead the group at the moment with for points after beating Inter 1-0 at home and drawing 2-2 in Moscow. PSV have 3 points from their 2 games after losing 2-0 at Inter and BEATING CSKA 2-1 at home so this is a key game that can shape the group. In the Dutch league PSV have made a good start with 6 wins and 2 draws in their 8 matches so far and are 1 point behind leaders Feyenoord at this early stage of the season, during this time they have won 5 out of 5 home games scoring 16 and conceding only 1. Fenerbache are 4th in the Turkish league after an indifferent start to the season and have a record so far of W4 D4 L1 F13 A8 but the telling stat for me is that on the road they have yet to win in 4 games with 3 draws against Manisaspor (14th) 1-1, Bursas or (15th) 1-0, Glenclerbirligi (13th) 1-1 and a 2-0 defeat at Istanbul BB. The fact that they have failed to beat 3 mid table sides away from home must be a concern. These 2 sides meet in the group stages of the 2005-06 Champions league competition with Fenerbache winning 3-0 at home and PSV winning 2-1 at their ground. In all PSV have played 6 Turkish sides at the Philips Stadium and have yet to lose and I feel that the record will be maintained tonight. Early team news is that PSV coach Ronald Koeman will be without Ibrahim Afellay, who has not yet recovered from a broken toe, as well as fellow defender Manuel da Costa due to an ankle injury and forward Jason Culina who recently underwent knee surgery. Fenerbache will have to do without ex PSV forward Mateja Kežman, because of a groin problem, but Fenerbache coach Zico may call on midfielder Stephen Appiah, playing again after six months out with a knee injury. Good Luck all :cheers

Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October Dynamo head coach József Szabó pre-match press conference HIGHLIGHTS 2 rules from the head coach: Be careful and make commitment With its performance, the English team lets everybody see it is one of the best in the world. You have to be very careful when playing against Manchester. Any wrong move may cost us a lot. But we must not be afraid to play against even a strongest opponent. As soon as you are on the pitch and do the warming up, all the fears (I admit we feel them) dispel. All you need to do is to show character. I would like to have 20 men of great character. A good example here could be Dynamo former player Lyzhnyy. Out of current players I could single out Taras Mykhalyk who shows commitment throughout 90 minutes. Recovery joy and injury trouble I am content with the situation. Both Bangoura and Diakhaté, who have been out of action for quite a spell, are back on the pitch. Taras Mykhalyk is doing much better and he may appear in the match tomorrow. Rebrov played in one match but his thigh continues to cause him trouble. Some better news from Michael, who is back for training. Another thing I would like to add here is that now we are not the Dynamo we used to be three weeks ago. The reason why I separated the players from their ladies is that everything must be done within limits. I find it utterly unacceptable when a player has a date with a girl on the night before the match and they hang out in a night club until dawn. There will no use of such a footballer. My initiative, however, mounted no resistance among the squad. 1.Dynamo K.+1. 2.Benfica v Celtic 1.

Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October Is it confirmed that Torres will not fly? There is some conflicting information. Liverpool site says he will be late decision. Sportinglife writes that he is not onboard the plane to Turkey. Strange.

Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October

I would seriously look into laying Man Utd.
Hi mate! The difference in class that I mentioned earlier (that I would expect in this game) may be backed up by Dynamo's results last term in the Champions League. They lost two out of their three home games in the group stages by goals ( Dynamo 1 - 4 Steaua Bucuresti, Dynamo 0 - 3 Lyon) They drew two and lost four. In my opinion Manchester United are a far better team than Steaua Bucuresti and Lyon and I fully expect a Manchester United win here. Dynamno have not won in the Champions League in their last 9 games and have been outclassed numerous times Away win for me, Good luck :cheers

Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October Yes i have to agree. Man united are to unleash tevez and rooney together for the first time in europe, and with vidic back i feel they will have too much for the ukraine side. In my betting experience accumulators on champs legaue fixtures never come in due to the quality of all sides involved so tonight it's just a double for me. Man united Psv :nana Good luck to all.

Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October United has scored eight goals in its last two matches and leads Group F after two wins. The Red Devils have conceded just four goals in 13 games this season and could be boosted by the return of central defender Nemanja Vidic. Dynamo Kiev comes into the match at the Olympic Stadium after a 1-0 win over Zarkapatia on Saturday that left it third in the Ukrainian league with 27 points, seven less than leader Shakhtar Donetsk. Kiev will be without veteran striker Serhiy Rebrov because of injury, but Brazilian forward Michael should be fit. Defenders Pape Diakhate and striker Ismael Bagoura are ready to play, but midfielder Taras Mikhalik is fighting to be fit. United manager Alex Ferguson said. "We can set our stall out to play the counterattack." United striker Louis Saha is out of the match after getting injured in the warmup on Saturday, but the in-form Wayne Rooney is fit and has scored six goals in five matches. if they sit back and get them on the break then the 7/2 for DRAW/UTD HT/FT with bluesq is very tempting

It would not surprise me if Torres did not travel, Benitez seems to be on Mars of recent and Liverpool truly look lost. Very lucky Against Everton at the weekend. The whole squad rotation this early in the season is a real poor excuse in trying to keep every player happy. Just doesn't work! Ask Martin Jol, he'll tell you! Besiktas V Liverpool is too dodgy to call, Liverpool really havent picked up any consistent form this season and by the looks of things will struggle away to Besiktas, and at very best may scrape a win. Zee :ok

Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October Sevilla - Steaua B. Sevilla started well this season, but after the starting two victories in their domestic competition, they lost 4 matches in a row. I must say that they did not played that bad. They were playing their game but the luck wasn’t on their side. They finally beat poor Levante in the last round which will give a bit higher self-confidence for this match. They also beat Slavia Prague in Champions League and they need to beat Steaua, in order to keep their favorite position for the second place. Sevilla has big injury troubles: Kone and Duda are injured and Dani Alves and Boulahrouz are in doubt for this match.

Steaua lost previous two matches in the group and they are searching for the first point here in Sevilla. They are very serious of trying to make Sevilla’s day harder. They postponed the match in the domestic championship in order to be rested for this big match for them. But they are having some injury troubles which will make their try to take at least a point even harder. The long-term defensive absences Radoi and Ghionea and midfielder Plesan are still out.

Sevilla beat Steaua twice last season in UEFA Cup and despite the squad troubles that they have, I believe in their win. As Sevilla’s coach Ramos said, they will search for early goal or two, like in the match against Slavia Prague and then to bring steady the match to its end. I believe in this home/home bet more because Sevilla has very tough schedule in their domestic competition playing against Valencia next weekend and then with Atletico and Real Madrid. I believe that coach Ramos want to decide the match as earlier as possible in order to have his players easier game and to keep their strengths for the upcoming matches. I know that Steaua will try to defend as not let an early goal to the hosts, but with their defensive absences and pretty strong offensive line of Sevilla, I can see this outcome. Pick: H/H --> Odds: 1.79 @ BetFair --> Stake: 5u

Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October

what is the team news of benfica i like the look of them could anyone inform me of recent form and injuries please and is venegoor of hesilink going to play?
Hi bigkev2006. Benfica has too many new players this season and that's their major issue at the moment as they have quality but are still adapting to European football (Paraguay International striker Oscar Cardozo, US International Freddy Adu, Uruguay Internationals Christian Rodriguez and Maxi Pereira and Argentinan under-20 International Di Maria). On top of that they have Portuguese Internationals Petit (he's been out for over a month now but is expected back maybe next weekend) and Nuno Gomes out due to injury. They've been solid at the back but the team clearly needs some more playing time together. They are creating many scoring chances but are finding it hard to score. Coach Camacho is saying that if the ball goes in it will all change for the better (and we all know that's a fact...in sports the mental part plays a big role and when the ball goes in things just seem to start happening naturaly). Brazilian Centre-back Edcarlos is also injured and will not play tomorrow. Benfica will move back to defense Greek International miedfielder Katsouranis. Benfica played with Katsouranis in defense already 6 times this year. They never lost in all those 6 games and only conceeded one goal. Benfica also rested more than half of the 1st team regulars last weekend (meaning they have their minds on tomorrow's game). Last year Benfica beat Celtic 3-0 at home. I was at the game last year and I'll be at the game tomorrow. Celtic was completly outplayed last year and looked very weak playing away. Despite the injuries, Benfica has enough quality to beat Celtic. Hope this helps. Cheers. JC P.S.) I must admit that I've seen dozens and dozens of live International games (both club and National teams competitions) and I've never seen anything as impressive as Celtic fans were last year at Benfica's "Estádio da Luz" (Stadium of Light). They were around 30.000 at the stadium, very friendly, and even when loosing 3-0 they never stopped cheering for their team. Amazing!

Re: Champions League 23rd/24th October My picks for Tuesday: G. Rangers-Barcelona: Rangers have 4 overs in their last 6 games, Barcelona has 5 overs in their last 6. Barcelona is clearly an "over" team, scoring many goals but allowing a few now and then (they are far from impressive at the back). My pick: >2.5 Sevilla-Steaua Bucareste: Too much of a quality and class difference here. Sevilla has not been playing very well this season but they seem to be improving lately. Also, they've just solved the issue regarding the maximum number of foreigners in their team and, as a result, got back in the team Uruguay International striker Ernest Chevanton and this means another quality option for their attack. IMO Steaua are the worst team playing in this group stage of the CL. I see Sevilla winning by at least a two goal margin. My pick: home -1.5 AH (Asian Handicap) Roma-Sporting: Both teams seem to be in some kind of a "shaky" form lately (Roma drew 4-4 at home to Napoli in their last game and Sporting lost to 2nd division Fatima 1-2 in the League Cup match, while resting a few 1st team regulars). Sporting's flight was delayed, they spent many hours in the airport and they couldn't pratice yesterday. Sporting's new Keeper (Serbia International Stojkovic) arrived late from his National team duties and, as a disciplinary measure, was not called both for the game against Fatima and today's game in Roma. He will be replaced by Tiago who has been at the club for 5 or 6 years now always as a substitute keeper playing only a few Cup games every season. Of course anything can happen in sports but I will be very surprised if Sporting are able to keep a clean sheet tonight. Still, they have what it takes to score a few on a good day...as the value for the Roma win is far too low IMO, I'll take the over. My pick: >2.5 In the 3 games bellow my game analysis gives me a bit just over 30% (thirty something) chance for a draw so I see them as "value" bets (at 3.20 you need to be correct 31.25% of the time to break even) as their odd prices vary from 3.20 to 3.50: CSKA Moskow-Inter Milan - draw; Stuttgart-O. Lyon - draw; PSV Eindhoven-Fenerbahce - draw; Good luck! JC
