Re: Formula 1 European Grand Prix 7th May Just like to add this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ziapm8pms5k&sea%20rch=webber I was on the outside of Tosa, probably adjacent to where Kimi touched the kerb on the outside. You could tell that the McLaren engine is awful. It's probably the 6th or 7th best on the grid. They really need an updated version, which Kimi will get at Nurbergring but Montoya won't (unless he takes a 10 place penatly). We've seen at time this season when they get the set up spot on that can compensate for the engine and they have genuine pace - but when they don't get it right they are purely average. I think the new version will be a lot better, and at the Nurbergring they should be able to get the set up right, so Kimi should be right there. So long as it is realiable of course, and how likely is that?:lol At 6.00 he certainly looks better value than Schumacher, who had everything perfect at Imola and will probably drop back a bit here. It's hard to see past Alonso, especially as he's getting the Renault updated engine that Fisi had in Imola. But at 2.37 before the weekend begins, not worth it IMO. Also, with Renaults standard strategy having him 4th-6th on the grid, why would you take that price now?:\ Crap I'm rambling and it's only Tuesday:lol

ReasoningTaking this one early purely because the price is silly and it's a great price for a little E/W shot. We all know how strong Button has been this season in qualifying and his results are awesome. He's qualified 3rd, 2nd, 1st and 2nd this season and is certainly the man to beat in qualifying. We've seen him drop back in all of these races but the race pace is improving, but is still not there yet, so they need to qualify at the front to have a chance in the race. This is the opposite approach to Renault and McLaren who go heavier to optimise the race strategy generally, which make this an appealing bet. The main threat in qualifying should come from Ferrari who tend to run a similar fuel load, however, there return to form at Imola was under optimal conditions and they've been inconsistant so far this season - I'm really not expecting them to have similar pace here. So far this season the big guns have lined up: Alonso 4th 7th 3rd 5th Fisi 9th 1st 2nd 11th Kimi 22nd 6th 4th 8th JPM 5th 5th 5th 7th Massa 2nd 21st 15th 4th Schumi 1st 14th 10th 1st Button 3rd 2nd 1st 2nd Buttons record is superior to the rest and has to be my pick for qualifying. I think there's a chance that Kimi will run lighter in qualifying this time - with the updated engine he may try to dominate the weekend and try to get away from Alonso early as Schumacher did at Imola. However, looking back at the results you have to look to Button to be favourite for this session, and certainly doesn't deserve to be 7.00.

Re: Formula 1 European Grand Prix 7th May Not too keen on McLaren and Kimi at the moment - serious lack of grip in practice and they look a mile behind Renault. Perhaps they can get it sorted out for tomorrow, but I don't expect anything special from qualifying so no point in taking Kimi now. The Bridgestone tyre choice looks very intesresting; they got away with it in Imola but here you can overtake and they can't afford to be so far off the pace in any part of the race. However, they do look very strong over a short stint so expect Ferrari, Williams and Toyota to perform pretty well in qualifying. I was looking to back Ralf and both Williams for points, but the tyre issue puts me off quite a bit. Taking that into account the prices look pretty fair. Might take Ralf tonight, not sure yet. Also because of this the way the grid shapes up will be very important and I predict there could be some very good prices for points come race day. The BMWs look awful like they did in Imola so far, not sure what's happened to them lately, but please have a good reason for backing them. Pinnacle had some great H2H match bets for qualifying, but they haven't put them up after practice. Maybe in the morning:sad

Re: Formula 1 European Grand Prix 7th May That was crap from Button - first time this year he's failed in qualifying and even Barrichello beat him:lol :lol. Still, the grid is very interesting for podium and points position, can only see one winner and Alonso will be very odds on for the race. I'll be back with some race bets this evening.

ReasoningMassa starts 3rd and I think he's in a very good position. Alonso and Schumi ahead but look at who's behind: 3. MASSA Ferrari 4. BARRICHELLO Honda 5. RAIKKONEN McLaren 6. BUTTON Honda 7. TRULLI Toyota 8. VILLENEUVE BMW Sauber 9. MONTOYA McLaren That doesn't look too threatening. Only the McLaren of Kimi who looks to have pace and is close enough to harm him. Both Hondas tend to struggle in the race, and whilst this is improving, they still aren't there yet. Also think Barri is light just as he was at Imola. Trulli and Villeneuve won't be anywhere near the pace of Massa and then we're all the way back to Montoya in 9th with the old Mercedes engine. I think we could see a pretty slow train in the first part of this race, headed by the Hondas. Kimi must get ahead of this at the start or he will have big problems. Expect Kimi to carry a lot of fuel, but I don't think Massa will be too light. The most likely scenario in the first start is to have Alonso pulling a slight gap to Schumi and Massa 3 or 4 seconds behind them. These 3 should be able to build a decent gap to Raikkonen and the train quite a way behind. Obviously as we get further into the race and the strategy plays out Kimi will come back into it, but with Massa starting 3rd and to be honest looking better than I expected, he's worth a shot. I still think the Bridgestones will suffer in some part of the race, but they should be quick enough in the first stint to put a lot of the cars behind out of touch. Of course something could happen to Alonso or Schumacher, but even if we ignore that possibility, Massa is a shot to get the last podium place.
I was also going to take Kimi @ 2.5 for the podium, but that's been cut to 2.25. Not so enthused about that price, will have another look later to see if anyone wants to better it.

ReasoningSilly price here, I really don't understand why it's so not a pretty decent favourite. The winning margins so far this season have been: 1.2 seconds, 4.5 seconds, 1.8 seconds, 2.0 seconds All well below 6.999 seconds. This is mainly to do with Renault. They aren't bothered about dominating and running away with races. They are here to win Championships. With Alonso being on his first race with this engine, and especially with the next race being at home for him in Spain, there's no way he's want to do anymore with the engine than needed. If he comes out of the second pit stop with a decent lead, he'll be cruising all the way home. We've also seen him do very slow final laps which really help this bet. So what about this race? IMO it's between 4 drivers; Alonso, Schumacher, Massa and Raikkonen. We'll see Raikkonen come into it later on, and because of that, I think this'll be a close race in the end - probably 20 seconds covering the top 4. With Alonso on pole there's a chance he could run away early on, but I don't see this happening. I think he's changed strategy and is pretty light, possibly even lighter than the Ferraris, and certainly a lot lighter than Kimi. The Ferraris have shown a lot of pace this weekend and for the first stint I think they'll be able to keep pace. After the first stops I expect Alonso to have an advantage, however, as I have already mentioned, he won't be taking undue risks and shouldn't win this by a big margin. For me this is a very solid bet to take at over evens.

SelectionFERRARI Highest Scoring Constructor

Bookmaker/Price>William Hill @ 3.50 (Back)
ReasoningSecond piece of action on Ferrari, which is a little risky, but I like the price so much I want to take it!! Don't really understand the price with the Ferraris looking strong in 2nd and 3rd with the Renaults in 1st and 11th. Looking at the 'big two', the race looks a straight fight between Alonso and Schumacher - even giving it to Alonso with Schumi in 2nd, that puts Renault 2 pts ahead. Ferrari seem very optimistic about there strategy after qualifying, so I don't think that's a forgone conclusion at all, and Schumi has a decent chance. Then we have Massa v Fisichella. Already stated the case for Massa to get on the podium - if he does get there in 3rd then Fisi will have to finish 4th for Renault to win, 5th for a tie and 6th or lower and Ferrari win. If Massa is 4th then 6th will be a tie, 7th or lower and Ferrari win. Starting lower down the grid, Fisi really struggled in Imola, and we have the same situation here. Assuming he's starting on a pretty heavy fuel load, he isn't going to make much progress, and even when the light guys pit, people like Montoya, probably Villeneuve and Ralf will be pretty heavy too. Also the Hondas are improving there race pace slightly, so they won't be easy for Fisi later in the race. I can see him struggling to make much progress, and 6th-8th seems to me to be where he'll most likely finish. So long as Massa can be solid and get 3th-5th then we have a decent shot at this. Also Fisi on his second race with the uuprated Renault engine, will probably not be too pleased at having to fill it up and run heavy, so may be a slight problem there. McLaren I think have a slim chance barring reliability problems for Renault and Ferrari. Both have great chances to move up from there starting positions but I don't think they're on for a big result. This is risking quite a bit on the reliability of the Ferrari, but this price is very appealing, so I'm willing to give it a go. Dead heat rules apply, so a tie would be a good result for this and I think that's quite likely. As a comparison, Blue Sq do a constructor H2H and have Renault v Ferrari and both are even money, which makes this price look very appealing.

ReasoningThis looks very solid to me. I mentioned a couple of races ago that Toyota were going to improve and they certainly have. I still think they have quite a bit more to come from them. Grid positions of 7th and 10th are solid but they should be a little higher as Ralf messed up Q2. But at least he gets to go with optimum race strategy and judging by Trullis pace in the final session he has quite a bit of fuel too. Here they are up against BMW with Villeneuve in 9th and Heidfeld 13th. Heidfeld has been really slow the past 2 weekends and I can't see him doing too much in the race. JV has been pretty quick but he's got a few quick guys behind him (including Ralf) and could well end up going backwards. I think Toyota will get stronger during the race and look a solid favourite.

SelectionMONTOYA v Fisichella

Date07/05/2006
Bookmaker/PricePinnacle Sports @ 1.87 (Back)
ReasoningDon't fancy Fisi much in this situation. Montoya starts 8th and Fisi 11th with Villeneuve and Ralf inbetween. The past 2 weekends Fisi has been so far off the pace and even though he was blocked by Villeneuve in Q2 he still isn't on the pace. Montoya on the old McLaren engine should be looking for another solid weekend, and from the interviews I've seen so far this weekend he's in the mood to deliver even though he isn't entirely happy with his car. He was slowest of the 10 in final qualifying (except Webber who wasn't trying) and it is very clear he is on a heavy fuel load. I can't see how Renault is going to get Fisi past Montoya in a pit stop strategy. I've already mentioned the train I expect in the bottom half of the top ten and that should move out of the way nicely for Montoya and give him some good clear laps. Barring a relaibility problem I can't see Fisichella beating Montoya this weekend, his pace certainly hasn't suggested that he will. Decent price IMO.

Re: Formula 1 European Grand Prix 7th May Just posting to keep you company MrI :notworthy Great write ups as ever, ive gone for 3 bets as follows; Over 15.5 Finishers 1.83 @ Skybet The record for finishers here is pretty high with very few retirements, just need that bit of luck on the first lap and were on our way. K.Raikkonen 9/1 E/W 1/5 123 @ SOdds Thought about the 11/10 for a podium, best price now, but very tempted by the 9/1, were getting a bit of value due to Alonso's poor price, pretty sure he will be thereabouts this week and still make a profit if he gets held up by one of the Farrari's. J.Villenueve Points Finish 6/4 @ Blue Sq A bit of value for a driver who is arguably driving better than he has done for a few years, seems up for it this season and getting the best out of his car, has been very reliable so if my first bet goes down due to retirements i expect JV to take advantage and get in the points, heres hoping for both! GOOD LUCK GUYS!

I was looking into this one, think it's a very decent bet. The only thing is; the drivers have been complaining about low grip, in a similar way they did in Australia, and we saw how messy that got. Hopefully the tyres they have here are a bit better as they were expecting the cool temperatures:hope Thanks and good luck:ok Oh, is there an odds comparison place that's working for the points finish market? Odds-comparison isn't:\

Re: Formula 1 European Grand Prix 7th May Just been looking around the bookies and found a few nice prices. Firstly Barichello at 1.72 who qualified fourth to get in the points by Bet3365 is far too high. Barichello has seemed to cracked the secret of driving this car. I have also gone for Barichello to beat Massa at 2.85 with Pinnacle. I dont like Massa as a driver. He can be quick but he is a liability. He enjoys going cross country too. Barichello is much more of a race driver and can put in good performances. Considering Barichello is only one place behind Massa, I think it is unreasonble for the odds to be so high. Finally, I believe that Klien should Luzzi here, but the odds have been inflated due to a poor qualifying session by Klein. The odds of 1.67 by Blue Square are too high in my opinion as I think this is a very one sided contest as long as Klien can finish. Looks like you got a few good ones there Mr.I. Good luck to everyone in the race tomorrow.

ReasoningGetting over evens for this is pretty decent so we'll give it a go. On pace Ralf would have been right in the top 10 but messed up Q2 by spinning and just didn't manage to make it. The Toyotas are lucking very decent this weekend and I think they've got more to come in the race. He's starting 10th and will get to choose his fuel load and is in a strong position to get some points here. He's also at home and at a track that he's won at because and should be pretty strong. In the race his pace should be stronger than that of team mate Trulli who he has been faster than most of this seaon, and I also expect him to be quicker than Villeneuve. It's by no means guaranteed, as there are a few quick guys behind him, but I still think it should be slightly odds on.

Re: Formula 1 European Grand Prix 7th May One more bet for me at the moment, I like the chance that Honda could beat the McLarens today. I would say the Hondas look much better now that Barichello is driving well, and they look better than the McLarens on the grid. So i rated this about evens. Well the nice folks at Blue Square are giving us 5/2. Thank you very much for that, I really do like Blue Square. It is also interesting that Button is odds on to beat Montoya at Stan James, therefore, I do believe there is value in this, as I reckon Barichello has a good chance of beeting Button today.

ReasoningWilliams seem very confident about there pace this weekend and to be honest I believe them. Handicapped by the engine changes before qualifying Rosberg starts at the back but we've seen him move through the field before and I think we'll se something similar today. Also at this track there are genuine overtaking places which will certainly help. Heidfeld, as I have already mentioned, has been very slow for the past two weekends and starting 13th I don't see him having a strong race. The guys ahead of him all seem quicker and there are a few behind him (Klien, Webber and Rosberg) who all appear to be quite a bit quicker. Here I think we've got one one guy moving forward and one possibly moving back. At above evens I have to take a chance here.

Aye, especially with Kimi being on the new spec engine. Kimi retiring would really help me, so hope it's Montoya that finishes:hope

Re: Formula 1 European Grand Prix 7th May Forgot this earlier: Following qualifying, the FIA released the number of laps each driver completed in the final qualifying session, and consequently the amount of fuel each driver is allowed to add to his car's fuel tanks before the start of the race: Driver Laps Fuel (kg) Alonso 14 38.5 M.Schumacher 13 35.5 Massa 13 35.5 Barrichello 13 35.5 Raikkonen 14 38.0 Button 13 35.5 Trulli 14 38.5 Villeneuve 13 35.5 Montoya 13 35.5 Webber 13 35.5 So Alonso and Kimi getting an extra lap. Could be crucial if Schumi has 1 or two more laps than Alonso. I'm not trying to pick the winner this weekend at the prices available, but let's hope Schumi gets it for the championship;) (and possbily getting us better prices on Alonso in the next couple of races:tongue2) Good luck everyone:clap :clap :clap
