Not much to say at the moment, except that I'm going to the race so won't be able to provide the normal service:dude. Early thoughts are that Alonso may struggle here; Fisi has the B spec engine so should be a bit quicker than him, probably bringing there performance to about the same levels. McLaren should be very strong, this is the time last year when they really turned the pace on and should have dominated - if they can reach the finish should win. Ferrari also should come fighting back, we haven't seen there true pace in the last few races and I think they'll (well Schumi) will be top 3 on pace and should get stronger throughout the race. This is because Bridgestone has a great compound for this race - thinking of that, look for Williams and Toyota to be strong. I predicted in the last race Toyota finding speed and I expect that to continue, could turn out to be great bets for the points. Not sure about Williams as they still appear overrated and unreliable - especially the Cosworth - engines get killed at Imola with the hills and heavy accelaration areas. Also I've fancies the BMWs in the past few races, but not really here, they've got a decent car but both are on there second race for the engine and they sound worried about it, I wouldn't want to took them unless Heidfelds engine blows and you can get a great price on him to grab some points. Also, we need to remember how different this circuit is to the ones we've seen so far - the most important thing here is how they travel over the raised curbs, and some cars will be crap over them, but we don't know this yet (an area I think McLaren and Ferrari are a little ahead of Renault). I haven't mentioned Honda yet (well Button, I'd forget about Barrichello until he's proved he's got his braking right (or left, as it should be:lol :lol)), and to be honest it's because I've no idea where they'll be - the best bet on them will be in qualifying, as I think Ferrari will improve in the race and they do still seem to fall away over the race. I think that's it for now:tongue2. Sorry about the inconclusive ramblings, I may put up a couple of bets tomorrow, but I don't like betting this early unless there's a solid reason (like Toyota last time), and don't want to wreck my Motorsport record: Tipster History for Mr Intensity - Motorsport

Re: Formula 1 San Marino Grand Prix Isn't that the race where the driver on the pole is impossible to be overtaken given he's a semi-decent driver? Excellent news you're going to the race, MrI;) Will you get pit access as well? otherwise it's just about the atmosphere as F1 is one of the events where TV coverage gives you much better info about the race (but there is a closed circuit TV coverage anyway);)

Re: Formula 1 San Marino Grand Prix Not sure about pit access T (I'll tell you on Tuesday;)). I won it in a competition last year (I know F1 me:lol) and I'm a little unsure of the details.

Isn't that the race where the driver on the pole is impossible to be overtaken given he's a semi-decent driver?
Everyone says that and it's because they run a lot of downforce and is usually the case. However, there are a couple of decent spots, going into Tosa and if you've got good traction through Variante Alta you can get a good run down into the Rivazzas. With the V8s this year the cars look a lot better coming out of the corners so perhpas there will be more chances to overtake. Also I really fancy the Bridgestones to be strong in the race, so perhpas Ferrari/Williams/Toyota will be able to do some overtaking;).

Re: Formula 1 San Marino Grand Prix Imola is not the best for overtaking, but it does beat the Hungaroring. That place rarely sees a lot of overtaking but it has got slightly better in recent years. I remember Ayrton Senna in the all-conquering Mclaren been stuck behind a very average Williams driven by Thierry Boutsen in 1990 for the entire race. In terms of Imola I agree with Mr I that Schummi will be right up there and will probably be worth a pop for a podium, I wouldn't write Massa off as he drove a blinder here a couple of years ago. I will have to have a closer look at the markets but under 15.5 finishers looks a good bet with Skybet, and I may also be tempted by Ferrari to be top scoring constructer @ 100/30 with willhill.

Re: Formula 1 San Marino Grand Prix OK, MR I has gone to watch so we need to get this thread going for the San Marino Grand Prix: (taken from BBC Sport Website)

Schumi breaks Senna pole record

Michael Schumacher grabbed his 66th career pole position at the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola to break the late Ayrton Senna's all-time record. The German's achievement came at the same track at which Senna had won his final pole, a day before the Brazilian was killed at this event in 1994. Schumacher's Ferrari set a lap of one minute 22.795 seconds to beat Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello of Honda. Ferrari's Felipe Massa was fourth ahead of world champion Fernando Alonso. Senna's pole mark had been the only F1 performance record not held by Schumacher, who has now racked up more wins, championship titles, poles and points than any other driver in history.

Only Italian Riccardo Patrese's achievement of competing in 256 Grands Prix has so far escaped Schumacher, for whom this weekend marks his 233rd F1 race. A delighted Schumacher said: "With the car we had, getting a pole was sort of obvious, but it is always great to start from pole. "Obviously it has a special meaning to me but right now there is so much focus on what comes next that I don't pay too much attention to it. "The record is less important for me - you look at records when you finish racing. I think we can show our very strong race pace." Englishman Button earned a spot on the front row for the third race in succession but Honda team-mate Barrichello impressed more, shrugging off his poor form so far this season to earn third spot with a time of 1:23.24.

Button said: "We've done a lot of work overnight and really improved. We needed to because we were quite a long way off on Friday." Ferrari and Honda's dominance on Saturday left Renault struggling as championship leader Alonso had to settle for fifth while Giancarlo Fisichella slumped out of the second knockout round. Juan Pablo Montoya led McLaren's efforts, clocking 1:24.021 for seventh, ahead of team-mate Kimi Raikkonen. Meanwhile Jarno Trulli snuck his Toyota into the final elimination round to claim ninth, while Mark Webber was 10th. Fisichella was just 0.011secs outside the top 10 and had to watch the pole position shoot-out from the pits as he contemplated an 11th-place start. Red Bull's David Coulthard also departed at that stage after earning 14th, behind Nico Rosberg who was forced to qualify in his spare car after a crash in practice. The German avoided a grid penalty because his original engine was fitted into the spare Williams It was also disappointment for Nick Heidfeld, who lost control of his BMW Sauber and smashed into a tyre wall, leaving him 15th on the grid. Red Bull's Christian Klien, Scuderia Toro Rosso's Scott Speed, Tiago Monteiro and fellow Midland driver Christijan Albers, as well as Super Aguri's Takuma Sato and Yuji Ide, were all eliminated in the first round of qualifying.

Outright odds taken from Betfred 1/5 odds places 1,2,3 Have to say that Schumacher barring engine failure now looks a schu in as Alonso's engine is on it's 2nd outing and as MR I said the bridgestones are having a big play here! Not many Bookies have their odds up yet and also no other type bets other than outright at the moment, so this is the only odds so far that i have found - I'll be back later when the bookies react, hopefully with some value bets!!! Regards,

Re: Formula 1 San Marino Grand Prix Ok heres my efforts for tha GP this week; Expect Farrari to dominate but Schumachers odds are rediculous so worth taking an EW bet with Massa at 16-1. Laddies are going 1/4 odds. Although he's inconsistant he's due a good run. Taking Villenueve to score points (3.25 SOdds) again, driving much more consistantly this year and in a reliable car. Starts 12th on the grid so not that much ground to make up. Backing Over 15.5 finishers (2.00 Skybet) not bad value copmpared to 1.72 for under. Much wider track than last time and not renowned for pile ups around here. Also backing the winning distance to be Under 8 seconds (1.83 Skybet). How many times do you see the leader ease right down over the last few laps when they could have won by miles. Hoping the same here. Good luck guys and have a good one MR.I, i'm only slightly envious.;)

Re: Formula 1 San Marino Grand Prix First of all, well done to Schumi on breaking the Senna record, Amazing that it was 12 years ago that the F1 world was shook up so badly. RIP Senna onto the race then and I feel its a must win for Ferrari and Shcumacher. Over 18 months now sicne he has had a 'proper' win and I expect him to produce the goods today. The Ferrari seems to be working well and the bridgestone tyre has at last come to the party. As long as he can stay out of trouble on the first lap and avoid mechanical troubles then I can't see the German losing the race. The key phase is the opening stint as it could enable him to get too far ahead of his rivals. I expect Alonso and the Mclarens to be more competitive as the race develops but it may be too late by then. I'm not sure about Honda but they have struglged in races so far this year so will probably not challenge for the victory. My 2 bets for the race will be Schumacher win and Massa podium. It's about time the prancing horse had something to celebrate and I hope the Tifosi will be happy today. If Schumi was to win this then it would be an emotional affair. M Schumacher win @ 2.10 (sportingodds) 5/10 F Massa Podium @ 4.0 (paddy power) 2/10 GL all :hope

Re: Formula 1 San Marino Grand Prix Not a fan of this sport but you have to acknowledge what Michael Schumacher has achieved. To break Senna's Pole record is another outstanding achievement. Button looks to have a tough ask to get his nose ahead of the German today but good luck to the guy.

Re: Formula 1 San Marino Grand Prix great to see Ferrari back amongst the winners today but it was fcucking close. Compelling viewing IMO and had my eyes glued to the screen all afternoon. Alonso perhaps should have won it but fantastic defensive display by the German :ok

Re: Formula 1 San Marino Grand Prix Good stuff this weekend guys:clap The race was awesome, I'm never underestimating Alonso ever again, watching him in the second stint was incredible. I was on the outside of Tosa so got to see them for quite a long period, it was amazing seeing how much closer he was each lap. Fisi was pathetic all weekend, quite surprised at how slow he was. The Toyotas were disappointing, but I think I'll be backing them in Germany in a couple of weeks;). As expected the BMWs were poor and a good chance they'll bounce back with a couple of fresh powerplants in the back. I got to walk on the track at the end, surprising how abrasive it was, certainly not like Magny Cours!! I'll say more tomorrow, so tired:zzz
