kevshat
Re: Snooker: Welsh Open I swear it's getting easier to pick the lottery numbers than sort out snooker form but I'm nothing if not game so I'll throw a couple of names into the hat! 4pts ew Stephen Maguire to win Welsh Open 14/1 Stan James Showed signs of a return to form out in Malta. Eventually went out to Ken Doherty who went on to win the tournament so nothing wrong with that and he has a nice draw here. If he catches fire then 14/1 is an excellent price. 1pt ew David Gray to win Welsh Open 250/1 William Hill I'm not quite sure where Hill's gets this price from but I'm not complaining! Ok David Gray isn't in particularly great form but it is only 15 months ago he was playing in the UK Championships final. He's also a ranking event winner in the past so he has what it takes if he can find his game. His section of the draw has big names in it but Stevens and Williams are both out of form. Gray needs a few good events now to climb back up the rankings and hopefully his 1st will come here. Good luck all.
kevshat
Re: Snooker: Welsh Open 2 match bets for Monday as well 10pts D.Dale to beat M.Holt Evs Totesport Dale played very well in Malta making the semi finals and will hope to continue the good form here. Holt is very capable but he's a bit like a timebomb and self explodes for no reason all too often. I'll take the in form man playing at home in this one. 5pts J.Trump to beat R.Milkins 11/10 Sporting Odds Trump's destined for big things in snooker and while it's a little too early to expect lots from him now I don't think it's beyond him to beat Robert Milkins. Milkins is incredibly inconsistent due to his very fast style and as long as Trump doesn't freeze on the big occasion he has every chance of winning this. I'm thinking about backing Wallace as well but I'm looking for some stats about that one 1st.

World Rank 25th against Trump, who's not in the top 100... You may well get the winner ZW, but don't judge snooker on stats like that or you will lose a lot of money. ;) Trump is still only 15 but is extremely talented and has a huge future in the game if he stays on track. This is his first season as a pro, so rankings mean nothing at this stage, especially as the snooker ranking run a 2 year cycle. :ok
Sir Puntalot
Re: Snooker: Welsh Open Monday 7pm 10pts Over 7.5 Frames (Fu v Henry) @ 1.72 Paddy Power Both out of form, looks to be a scrappy match and Drew Henry usually makes matches scrappy anyway. Just can't see either player getting away from each other and a 5-3 5-4 scoreline either way is a winner. Tuesday 7pm 10pts Over 7.5 Frames (S Davis v J Cope) @ 1.72 Paddy Power Cope is really beginning to make his mark but has his hands full here with the Master of the safety game. Davis is also in good form and obviously I see it as I do the match above, a very tight affair indeed.

ZuluWarrior That is true but as Paul said and as you found out earlier in the day, rankings aren't the best guide. Certainly not the official ones anyway. I like to use the provisional rankings and the 1 year rankings and in the 1 year rankings Trump is well ahead of Milkins. Good luck if you back Milkins but I could never back someone as inconsistant as him at odds on.

I was watching that match on live scoring while keeping tabs on my other losing bets this evening and Henry for the majority of the time was literally scoring in 5's, 6's and 7's after the interval. Fu must be kicking himself that he didn't put up more of a challenge. If Henry carries on with that scoring pattern then Lee must be a cert in the next round. Sir Puntalot
Re: Snooker: Welsh Open SportSnooker/Pool EventSnooker: Welsh Open SelectionBarry Hawkins to beat Hendry Strength10/10 Date28/02/2006 Bookmaker/PriceBetDirect @ 3.25 (Back) ReasoningBetdirect are way out of line here, but let's not argue with them, just take full advantage. Hawkins last played Hendry in the UK Championships (Nov 2004), against all the odds Hawkins beat him 9-7, showing no fear and full of self belief. Provisionally No.7 in the world for next season and who could argue he's not good enough to be there? If this was a long distance match, I could make Hawkins 3.00 at worst, but the very fact it is a short distance, he should be no bigger than 2.38 in my opinion, especially considering Hendry's form is erratic despite him being provisionally back to No.1 (that's more to do with Ronnie missing tournys). Hawkins can win this tourny and talking from experience, playing a big player after you have scraped past an inferior opponent like Roe 5-4 the previous day, nearly always makes you play 10 times better the following match. Either way, 3.25 is way too big for this classy breakbuilder.

Sir Puntalot
Re: Snooker: Welsh Open SportSnooker/Pool EventSnooker: Welsh Open SelectionScott Mackenzie to beat Barry Pinches Strength10/10 Date28/02/2006 Bookmaker/Pricetotesport @ 2.75 (Back) ReasoningTotesport look way out of line here, but I'm not just backing this player because of his price. Lost 5-4 to Adrain Gunnell in the Grand Prix 1st Rd. Not a great result, but Gunnell is no mug. Lost 9-8 in UK Qualifiers 1st Rd to Mark Allen. Unfortunate draw it has to be said and Allen went on to qualify for the TV stages. China Open Qualifiers: Cruised through to Rd 3 with 5-0 and 5-1 wins in beating nobody special, but then comfortably beat both Gerrard Greene & Ian McCulloch 5-2 and they are excellent results over dangerous opponents and goes on to play Stevens later this season. En route to drawing Pinches here, he has beaten Marcus Campbell & Tony Drago 5-3, with a career highest break of 135, as well as a 125 which shows he's in tip top condition. Pinches is a player I have never been afraid to oppose as he is so limited. He can play well sure, but knowing how good Mackenzie's current form is, how can he be 2.75 to beat Pinches? I think Paddy Power have it more correct with Mackenzie at 2.25. If Mackenzie keeps up the current form he's showing, I think he'll dispose of Pinches to take on a much bigger challenge in John Higgins. winbet
Re: Snooker: Welsh Open Great picks Paul which look to have clinched you 2nd spot ahead of me in the Sports-punter comp. :eek :eek Following the Pinches match on the live scoring. Makenzie looks to have the final frame in the bag, but I need my beauty sleep so will have to leave it with Makenzie leading 49-7. If it goes on another 18 minutes I would want a stewards enquiry along with The Hendry match. ZuluWarrior
Re: Snooker: Welsh Open Oh, I apologise then for "after-eventing". Didn't even realise I did it. Great tipping yesterday guys. Today holds alot of promise too, Maguire, Higgins, Stevens and Doherty must all feel real optimistic for this tornement, with the demise of the Rocket and a few other top ranking players. I agree that Maguire may win outright kevshat, I also fancy Doherty to win too (I don't know why, gut feeling that he'll do well). Both are at 10 to 1 on Stan James, but there must be better odds out there, time to hit oddschecker... I know Murphys about too, but I really don't rate his consistancy as a world beater. To be honest I really can't make my mind up on Murphy at all... All in all I think Doherty and Stevens will do well today at 1pm, but McManus V Milkins I think will be close, anyone with any form on McManus?? But I ain't no pundit, so I wait eagerly to hear the views of the real tippsters out there! ZuluWarrior
