Racing Chat - Friday 29th December

Traprain Law (1.20) & Young Buster (1.55) (Fergal O'Brien's only runner at Kelso today where he has a 43% win ratio over the last 5 years) worth doubling up at 10/11 & 11/8 with our friends from Stoke-On-Trent bet365 (if you're lucky enough to have an account with them).

Pays just over 7/2.

Kelso 1245

Schalke

win

won this race off 116 last year  and upped to 124.

Down now to 120 and has William Maggs on board claiming seven. (feasibly well treated, by a minimum of three pounds) Visored first time and holds top weight. Profile of this horse lightly raced in the last year, stands up well to the opposition.

Southwell 1600

Straitouttacompton

each way

draw data from last two runnings simply favours extremes on both sides of the track.

This horse a four time course winner off 33 pound higher marks unplaced all runs for this trainer and Gina Mangan with a claim an interesting change along some national hunt spins….. faces stiff opposition here but “the harder they come….”

Southwell 1700

Catrake Force

Each way

(fourth place just out of the money 💰although the prize money would have gone that far).

big price for a horse withdrawn on intended turf debut in a class four. Good debut subsequently dropped in grade on the all weather. Collaborative form with two of the principlals here and a close up second on debut to a horse who put over six lengths on one of these two whilst cartrake force holds one of the two by 4.25 lengths on their previous meeting. Not such a good follow up hence the short memory of layers.

Southwelll 1830

stone of destiny

each way

very low in the weights and a recent winner for the yard who have changed direction having gone for international and big race glory. The bread and butter stuff has been put to one side now there are bigger fish 🐠 to fry. But it still pays the wages of the stable staff and JOMO is a notable one trick jockey here for a yard who run very much in the style of David Evans with jockey bookings often the key to horses hopes. She has had at least one winner on each of the last few days.

stone of destiny is very close indeed to being the draw data runner here and given proximity of draw is closest appropriate runner.

HIYA MATE

Win

has gone up progressively since last win in a class three and this is a drop in class as handicapper struggles to keep tabs on a string of placed efforts since.

Southwell 1900

lots and lots of clues from the physics if you ignore the form.

NAMMOS

WIN

Class all over this who has had runs in decent races at longchamp Benoit D L Sayette a good booking here.

DARK SIDE THUNDER

Win

course specialist and in receipt of a pull here under traverse law

won here on three of four visits….

BEELZEBUB

Each way

not  drawn to win but interesting off wind surgery on first run for new yard

Belezebub ran well in snatches and Namoss ran a good race at a big price to be second.

southwell 1930

The selection is too short to back to win outright. Horses who won on handicap debut switched into a stakes race have to be of interest here.

In receipt of 11 pounds from most of the field,

given he’s run in a clsss four at hq before beating a decent handicapper by 4.35 lengths

Rusheen Boy to win by 2.0 lengths or more @ 1/1

two winners

Good morning Alex

won @ 28/1 at Southwell tonight.

was well backed early doors for the fourth time in five runs. 33/1 into 12s earlier but bookies pushed him right out again to cover up the move. But it’s recorded in price changes  for anyone who looks at standout moves .

Hiya Mate

was the other winner at 5/4

winning by multiple lengths.
