Inter vs Empoli

Inter fans will want a repeat of their previous result, being the 2:1 Serie A victory versus Udinese. Nerazzurri are two points behind their arch-rivals, Milan, three rounds before the end of the season. The hosts haven’t been able to stop scoring goals, finding the back of the net in each of their last six games. They’ve hit an aggregate of 14 during that period and have conceded a total of 5. Inter shouldn’t let themselves have another setback like the one in Bologna when they suffered a 2:1 defeat. Another upset would definitely cost them Scudetto.

Following on from being beaten in their last game against Torino in the Serie A competition, Empoli and their fans will hope to get a better result this time. They have accomplished their primary goal of this season, to stay in the Italian top-flight. The stats don’t lie, and Empoli has been scored against in 5 of their last six games, letting opponents get 11 goals in total. In defense, Empoli just hasn’t been too solid at all. Empoli boss Aurelio Andreazzoli has to choose a team with limited availability. Emmanuel Ekong (Unknown Injury), Riccardo Marchizza (Cruciate Ligament Injury), Nicolas Haas (Cruciate Ligament Rupture), and Lorenzo Tonelli (Cruciate Ligament Injury) will miss out on this game.

Full-Time Winner Odds & Prediction

Inter is a firm favorite in this match, and anything besides their victory would be a great surprise. However, they need to stay alert since Empoli managed to beat Napoli 3:2 after trailing 2:0 ten minutes from time. Nevertheless, we don’t think they will make the same mistake again, and Inter should win by at least two goals.

Goals Market Prediction

Both teams have been involved in high-scoring games, and Inter’s last five went over a 2.5 margin. The Over 3.5 FT cashed in Empoli’s previous three matches, and we could see at least two goals by halftime.

Inter AH -2 @ 1.65

Over 1.5 HT @ 1.85

Correct score 4:0 @ 10.00

Significant team news: - (nothing new important)

Note: Incredible run by Salernitana, who we confidently expected to be relegated at this stage, but 4-1-0 run in last 5 means they are now just above the red zone, with 1 point more than Genoa and Cagliari. As usual with these kind of late runs, they had quite a bit of luck, not only in games but also with opponents having their minds elsewhere, most notably Fiorentina (with Cup tie vs Juve) and Udinese (heavy rotation in tight schedule spot), but credit to Salernitana for taking advantage of those situations and for scoring goals really, some of those, like winner at Udinese, very late indeed. Cagliari are in real trouble now, they have lost 7 of last 8 and this is almost a must-win, if we look at the schedule after this game, for the remaining two rounds: Salernitana play Empoli and Udinese, who are both safe and play for pride only; while Cagliari's next opponent is league's best team Inter who are fighting for the title with their arch-rivals. These two played 1-1 draw in Caglari earlier this season, with Salernitana equalizing in 90th minute, of course - completely against the run of play, using again one of their many lucky moments from this season. However, due to wholesale changes they have made during the January transfer window, there could be max 2-3 players from that team in tomorrow's starting 11. xPts has Salernitana 2nd from bottom, 7 pts behind Cagliari who 'should be' above the relegation zone, however it's of no consolation to the Sardinians, who will have to show their best tomorrow. We agree that the hosts should be small favs here, but for us it's lower than the market suggests and while their run is indeed impressive, this will be their 3rd game in 6 days, with Cagliari having a full week to prepare for it.
