Granada vs Eibar

La Liga continues earnestly into the summer with the 6:30pm BST kick-off between Granada and Eibar at the Nuevo Los Carmenes our focus of attention this week. The home side will still feel that they can gate crash the Europa League qualification battle with only a small number of league games remaining and they will want to start against a team visiting that are firmly fixed in a relegation dogfight.

Granada could hardly have wished for a more emphatic return to the top flight of Spanish football. Diego Martinez's side earned promotion from the Segunda Division last year as runners up but they've adapted very effectively to their new standard of playing. Just 1 defeat from their last 8 league games has kept them in the push for European qualification but time is running short. Home form has been key for Nazaries this season with 9 wins coming from their 15 home games with nearly 50% of those home games delivering clean sheets.

Eibar aren't enjoying quite the same positive vibes as their opponents this season. Los Armeros are in 17th place in the division. The encouraging news is that Jose Luis Mendilibar's side might only be one place above the relegation zone but they remain 6 points clear of the drop with a game in hand on the team behind them. The team has found form since the restart with just 1 loss coming in their 4 games since La Liga resumed. It's now 3 league games unbeaten. Away form is still a potential issue with Eibar having lost 8 of their 15 away matches and they haven't even managed to score in 47% of those away games.

Everything is pointing towards a home victory in this one. The ELO ratings aren't as favourable towards Granada as I had anticipated but that's largely due to Eibar's much-improved form over recent weeks. I still think the solid home form of the hosts and the motivation to push on up and threaten those European qualification spots is enough reason to back them.

It will be a very tough battle at Camp Nou and it will be judged in detail. Atletico Madrid will rely on the tight defensive function, will close the spaces and will try to hit the counterattacks. I expect a very closed match with a few goals
