larsonist
Re: Vanarama Conference 16th/17th August Early days but I reckon Torquay 5/6 at home to Southport is worth a bet. Not sure Welling are better than Southport either given the 2 games they have both played so far. boggen
Re: Vanarama Conference 16th/17th August Great to see the new season kicking off! Few thougts from me on the first couple of rounds, I mentioned before the first round that there would be good value this season to go against Bristol Rovers (especially on the road), and they followed up on their 0-0 draw in the first round at home to Grimsby with a loss away to Barnet, a Barnet who have had a great start to the new season with a couple of great performances! Macclesfield, showing some decent performances. Looking quite dangerous on the counter attacks. Look's better defensively this season than the previous season, although it's only been a few rounds. But some encouraging performances so far from Macclesfield! Halifax, started with 2 straight wins. Looks very well organized defensively, sureley be a strong home team this season. Again. I'm well impressed by Roberts, could cause some serious airial damage to some "short" teams this season! They have to stop giving away free kicks around their own box which is one of the few minuses I've seen so far. Kidderminster, wow. Must say I'm quite impressed so far. Some turmoil in pre-season but the first couple of matches have looked quite ok. Well organized, players like Blissett, Dunkley has impressed on me! Nuneaton, started quite weak, as I mentioned before the season, who will score the goals? Don't create that many chances either. Clearly better defensively even though I think it have looked quite static at times. Gateshead, another team that has impressed in the beginning of the season. J.Oster key-player, keeps possession very well. Good pressing side. Good on the ball. Great GK in Bartlett. Team to watch? Chester, aweful start to the new season. They had initially prepared for a lower division and they look's like they are already there!? Great signings in Roberts and Iwelumo, but will it be enough? Grimsby, have had quite a few players missing the first rounds. Have to improve their set pieces! Better defensively than offensively? Telford, some unproffessional behaviour from a few lads, this must change! Phenix, a dangerous player! Will be a tough season! Altrincham, have had difficulties offensively, weak set pieces defensively! Needs to be more clinical infront of goal and better concentration at defensive set pieces! Braintree, I think they have looked quite ok. Sparks has been great, they always looks dangerus on set pieces! Hard to beat, could they surprise again this season? Dartford, strong physical side. Lacks a few bits and pieces technically. Woking, best attack in the division, Rendell, Morgan? Watch out! Even better team when Betsy comes back in a few months! There is a few cracking bets this weekend! Good luck guys! Boggen

Sabina_S
Re: Vanarama Conference 16th/17th August I'm new to this forum and I'm a keen follower of the Conference. Halifax look generously priced at 4/5 to beat a poor Welling side - and confident Forest Green at 8/13 should see off Alfreton. Barnet at Evens could continue their great start, but Lincoln will be no push-overs. A final cheeky punt would be Dover at 21/4 to sneak at 1-0 win at Grimsby, who can't hit a barn door at the moment and are riddled with injuries. Grimsby's injury problems are all up front, but they are very strong defensively and I find it hard to see Dover managing to score against them given they have looked a weak side so far. Sabina_S
Re: Vanarama Conference 16th/17th August Grimsby are likely to play 3 at the back, with Pearson returning from suspension, and they are expecting Dover to park the bus. A Dover win has now drifted to 5-1, but it's a tempting 15-1 for them to win 1-0, scoring on the break. Perhaps a better bet would be 10-1 no scorer (or 20-1 Pearson first scorer - from a set piece)
Darran
Re: Vanarama Conference 16th/17th August Dover haven't managed to score against Halifax and Braintree so to suddenly expect them to score against a better side is asking a lot and like you say they are hardly going to go looking for a win. Having said that Grimsby at such short odds doesn't exactly appeal either. The best bet could be under 2.5 goals on the match.

Sabina_S
Re: Vanarama Conference 16th/17th August Yes, under 2.5 goals is best price of 5/6 with Ladbrokes. Perhaps combined with a v small bet on Grimsby to win 3-0 at 12-1.

ricay85
Re: Vanarama Conference 16th/17th August I am keeping faith with Halifax again this weekend this time on the hcap -1 v Welling is 9/4 (skybet) and that looks worth a punt considering the form of both teams. Halifax winning at HT is 11/8 also worth considering. Telford v Aldershot +2.5gls is at Evens (gen) which i think is decent value.

Darran
Re: Vanarama Conference 16th/17th August Barnet v Lincoln The home side have had a great start to the season which is good for those of you who followed me in ante-post. A 5-0 win over Chester was a pretty big statement last weekend (even allowing for the fact Chester had a man sent off early on) and they followed that up with a 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers on Tuesday. That puts them in a good position to face a Lincoln side who look a mid-table team. They drew 0-0 against Kidderminster last weekend and then beat Altrincham 2-1 on Tuesday but neither of those were as tough as this fixture looks. Barnet are a shade of odds on and I make that just about value. Eastleigh v Gateshead This wasn’t originally among my bets, but after watching Eastleigh against Aldershot on Thursday night I think it is worth backing Gateshead. Eastleigh may have beaten Aldershot 1-0, but the goal came with pretty much the last kick of the match and they didn’t impress me at all. I felt neither team really did enough to win the game and Eastleigh after getting into promising positions lacked the quality in the final third. Gateshead have had a cracking start to the season having beaten Torquay and Wrexham and they should pose much more of a threat going forward than Aldershot did on Thursday night. Bet 365 are biggest about an away win at 15/8 Vanarama Conference treble There are quite a few odds on teams in the top league this weekend and three of them look worth putting in a treble which pays just under 4/1 with Coral. Torquay served us well on Tuesday night and they face a Southport side who have lost both games so far and were well beaten by Halifax on Tuesday. Bizarrely enough the teams who those two played on Tuesday night also face each other on Saturday. Halifax may not be up to equalling last seasons finish, but they should have enough for a Welling side who have looked well short in both games so far. I thought Alfreton might be capable of a top half finish this season, but they have had an awful start having conceded three in both games. They go to Forest Green who are the new favourites for the title and should make it three from three.
Darran
Re: Vanarama Conference 16th/17th August Hopefully the good start can continue with 9 out of 11 winning bets so far. Nap is Barrow -1 followed by Barnet and Whitehawk.

Darran
Re: Vanarama Conference 16th/17th August Torquay & Wrexham? Better odds on shots than Wrexham in my view. They didn't look great when beating Dartford last week and Nuneaton proved against Grimsby they can be hard to break down.
bartonbank
Re: Vanarama Conference 16th/17th August Don't necessarily agree with that, addpea. Against Dartford we had problems at set pieces but could have had more than two. Against The Heed we had two cleared of line and conceded two, within five mins, after a substitution changed our shape. We will have a change of keeper today and, if Keates is back in the midfield will improve. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using PL Forum
