Re: Champions League Third Qualifying Round 1st Leg - Tues 29th & Wed 30th July Sparta Praha v Malmo FF Fancy Sparta in this one, I have watched Malmo a couple of times lately and they haven’t impressed. Sparta are very solid at home winning every competitive domestic league game there last season, they started their league programme on Friday and won 2-1 away to Bohemians. Sparta thumped Levadia 7-0 in the home game of the previous round, before drawing 1-1 away with virtually an entire reserve XI. A few first teamers missed the game on Friday they were Mat?jovský, Krej?í, and Lukáš Mare?ek, I can’t find much information about how injured Mat?jovský and Krej?í are but hopefully they are not serious and I think they must have been training ground injuries, Krej?í especially is a key player, Mare?ek only has a cold and will play. Malmo will have a days fewer rest as they are currently playing a league game, those who read last weeks thread will know they aren’t impressing us currently and were probably the most disappointing side in the last round. They beat Ventspils 1-0 over two legs but were vastly overrated by the bookies – and perhaps us punters too - against a poor side, I certainly didn’t see them create much of anything. I won't repeat too much of what we said about them in the previous round but they have suffered from sales of their better players and currently have injuries to two of their best players in Molins and Thern, defender Helander has returned to the side. I think Malmo are overrated and while they are currently faltering in the league without Molins they struggle to create chances, Sparta are a superior side who look far more clinical than Malmo and have a fine home record, while I don’t think Sparta will qualify for the group stage I think they will win this game and this tie. Malmo will likely come to defend in numbers which won’t be anything new to Sparta and they will hopefully be able to make a comfortable lead for the return leg. Re: Champions League Third Qualifying Round 1st Leg - Tues 29th & Wed 30th July AEL Limassol v Zenit St Petersburg Bit of a mismatch here, Zenit spend money like it’s water thanks to their rich backers and I was staggered Garay chose to go there in the summer (wages reasons I presume) over some of the other sides that must have been in for him as I rate him as one of the best centre backs in the game. They have extreme quality throughout the side in players like Hulk, Garay, Danny, Rondon, Witsel etc. Zenit are virtually certain to qualify for the next round but will probably be virtually unbackable in the home leg, expect their odds to be about 1.2 for the straight win. The obvious question is will they go for the straight win when they know they will very likely win the home leg comfortably? Obviously we can’t answer that but the odds are decent and considering who they are playing they are certainly worth the play. Hulk and Garay were involved in the latter stages of the World Cup and only returned to training a couple of days ago so I’m not sure they will be starting the game, wouldn’t be a surprise to see both of them on the bench. AEL Limassol provided us punters with a great return a couple of years ago in the CL qualifiers when they beat Linfield and Partizan, I certainly remember a great return from those games as they weren’t fancied but had a very useful side, they came within 10 minutes of qualifying before Anderlecht scored a couple of late goals to overturn the defeicit, remember I was quite disappointed at the time. Quite a lot of the players have unsurprisingly moved on since then and the side doesn’t look like it has the same quality about it, they only lost the title to APOEL on goal difference last season though. They have a squad packed with foreigners but the team is getting older with key midfielders Bebe and Silva now 32 and 33, Orlando Sa has moved on up front and they don’t look to have the same threat, they still have great fans and expect there to be a good atmosphere at the game. It is difficult to make comparisons because the quality of the squads is so different, none of the AEL players would get near the Zenit side. Obviously that doesn’t guarantee success in this game, but I will be backing Zenit to make the second leg routine, it goes without saying that failure to qualify for the group stage would be a disaster for Zenit and I expect them to be focused and win the first leg. Zenit beat Porto and Borussia Dortmund away from home in the Champions League last season so that shows the pedigree they have, they will be expecting to get to at least the last 16 again. Zenit St Petersburg -0.5,-1.0AH – 1.74 – pinnacle – 7 Points

Re: Champions League Third Qualifying Round 1st Leg - Tues 29th & Wed 30th July Dnipro will be playing their home game in Kiev after Kobenhavn made a complaint which UEFA upheld, even though there has been little trouble there..I'm tempted by Dnipro as they are a quality side but can't quite convince myself to pull the trigger.

Re: Champions League Third Qualifying Round 1st Leg - Tues 29th & Wed 30th July Hey folks, I'm looking for an accumulator with qualification bets, and was thinking about the following teams: Sparta Praha, Steaua, Salzburg, Zenit. What do you think, or what else you might suggest? Zenit and Salzburg should be pretty straightforward, and the odds just confirm this. I rate Steaua as a better team than Aktobe, but they might face some problems in defence as Gardos is still out injured, and Varela was left out against Rapid. According to their manager, he might also miss the first match against the Kazakh champion. Regarding Sparta Praha I agree with HastGill1, they should advance to the final qualification round. Malmö was all but impressive against a relatively weak Ventspils. I was also looking at Apoel, Lille or Dnipro, but am not completely sure about those. What do you think? Any useful input is greatly appreciated :)

I suggest you forget the accumulator - (which is often just a quicker way of giving money to your bookmaker) - and concentrate on finding a single bet where you believe the odds are too high. For example, if you think Team A are stronger than Team B, but the odds for Team A are higher, backing Team A might be a good bet. Up to you entirely of course, and good luck with the accumulator bet if you go with that! :ok

Actually my general strategy is betting on singles with odds averaging ~1.90, but sometimes I place accumulators as well. So thank you once again for your advice, but I'm rather looking for inputs on the aforementioned matchups right now.

Re: Champions League Third Qualifying Round 1st Leg - Tues 29th & Wed 30th July Talking of Salzburg, they have been on fire in their first two Austrian league games winning 6-1 and 5-0. If anything, they have looked better than last season when they won the league by a streak and had a good run in the Europa League, winning at Ajax. I don't know much about Karabakh Agdam from Azerbaijan though (Qaraba? A?dam FK on wikipedia). They do have four Brazilians in their squad. According to 'transfermarkt' their most valuable player is Brazilian Danilo, just signed from Portuguese club Maritimo. He scored in the last round against Valetta. I think Azeri sides are fairly defensively-minded in general, and I am pretty sure they will want to stop Salzburg having too much of the ball. If Salzburg take the lead here, they could easily win by a few. From what I have seen of Salzburg, I would be surprised if they don't qualify from this tie, but it's quite tricky to judge a single leg of a 2-legged tie.

I discounted them on the basis of their unreliable European form, they have constantly disappointed when it counts despite unbelievable domestic form. They have failed at this stage in the last two seasons against F91 and Fenerbahce and last season when most of us were convinced they were going to batter Basle in the first knockout stage they bottled it and lost despite the opposition being down to 10 men for virtually the whole game, I just see them as unreliable. You would put them as massive favorites to progress from this stage though I agree, wouldn't surprise me if they won this by a few goals but I think they can be shut down by a side with a good game plan.

Re: Champions League Third Qualifying Round 1st Leg - Tues 29th & Wed 30th July Sparta Prague and Salzburg look strong bets at around 1/2 each, might be worth considering in a double. I also like Dnipro at 10/11 to beat Kobenhavn (although the venue worries me enough to reduce the stake) and I especially like Ludogorets at 10/11 to beat Partizan. Ludogorets are a rapidly improving side and already beat Partizan last season, so this is a home win for me. Sparta Prague/Red Bull Salzburg 1pt double at around 5/4 Dnipro to beat Kobenhavn 1 pt at 10/11 Ludogorets to beat Partizan 3 pts at 10/11

Lille will miss,Enyama,Origi,Kalou,Mavuba (wc participants) all are very important players, i can see a very even match and happy to take Grasso on this + line GL all

Not really sure mate. Ludogorets is in really bad form a the moment. First 2 games in Bulgarian League they lost against team who came from second league 1-0 and they played 0-0 against Chernomore this weekend. Partizan is best team in Serbia probably in last decade and they have nice mix of experiance and very talented players. Just think that for this match price should be equal and wouldnt take ludo on @1.87 think is just not worthed.

Re: Champions League Third Qualifying Round 1st Leg - Tues 29th & Wed 30th July Its very early days in the Bulgarian league (only 2 games) so maybe not fully up to speed or maybe saving themselves for the crucial CL match. Partizan are decent but they didn't win Serbian league (Red Star won it but they got disqualified from Europe) and they lost both matches against Ludo last season. The Bulgarians are a rising force and went on to beat much better sides than Partizan last season (PSV, Lazio). I think 8/11 would be fair for the home side, so 10/11 looks value to me.

Re: Champions League Third Qualifying Round 1st Leg - Tues 29th & Wed 30th July Feyenoord at evens to beat Besiktas Bet365. Odds have dropped a bit, but based on Soccerway stats, both of their respective leagues have not started but Feyenoord, have racked up 4 friendly games under their belt compared to one for Beskitas. I am thinking the turkish will not be as match, Feyenoord did loose pelle to southampton, but i think they might have enough to get pass Beskitas at home

Re: Champions League Third Qualifying Round 1st Leg - Tues 29th & Wed 30th July In my opinion, the clue to judging the outcome of a match involving Ludogorets in the european tournaments is determining the strength of the opposition's attack. Ludogorets have a rather poor defense and struggle against teams with a strong attack. They had no answer to the attack of Basel and Valencia last season and were eliminated very easily. Lazio played with an experimental attack in both of the matches and this presented Ludogorets with a chance of going through, which they took. For the matches against Partizan Ludogorets will be without their most important three central defenders. But how strong is Partizan's attack? Is the attack impoved as compared to the matches of last season? If the attack is improved, I think that Partizan would be favourites to go through.

Re: Champions League Third Qualifying Round 1st Leg - Tues 29th & Wed 30th July Well up in front is Lazovic who scored 4 against Faroe team and who was playing for Zenith,Psv and Vitesse and super talented Zivkovic who is only 17 and who Partizan return from Uefa19 champions as they need him against Bulgarian.IMO is that Partizan have better team then last year and specially now as you mention that Ludo will miss 3 defender will be more confident to go with partizan dnb. Re: Champions League Third Qualifying Round 1st Leg - Tues 29th & Wed 30th July Ludo with surprisingly bad form - no goal in two games in A PFG, both against mediocre teams. They also drew with Dudelange and played pathetic in the away leg. They got problems with injuries of their central defenders. There might be some value on Partizan, but I am not sure they are a very good team. But if they have a good coach, who would know how to arrange them well at the back and how to break against insecure Ludo' defense, then they might be value.

I wasn't recommending any bet, just relaying my experience of watching their last two games and wondering how they will do in the CL this season :). Running rings around Wiener Neustadt or even Rapid Vienna in the Austrian league is one thing. Trying to beat experienced European sides in the CL or EL knockout stages is 'QUITE' another. In theory, they should gradually improve in Europe, but I suppose they will always have the problem that the Austrian league is a class below the top ones in Europe (Germany, Spain etc). I think that's one reason why German and Spanish sides often win the CL and EL.

Re: Champions League Third Qualifying Round 1st Leg - Tues 29th & Wed 30th July

Hey folks, I'm looking for an accumulator with qualification bets, and was thinking about the following teams: Sparta Praha, Steaua, Salzburg, Zenit.
Just to make things clear, because I think I was misinterpreted over here. I am not looking to back these 4 teams to win this week, but to qualify for the next round.

Sparta Praha, Steaua, Salzburg, Zenit Just looked at the 'to qualify' odds for these teams - average odds are about 1.2, which is the same as 1/1.2 = 0.83. So the odds say there is on average an 83% chance that these teams will qualify. If you took the above 4-fold to qualify bet, you would get odds of around 2.0 on the accumulator. Have you thought about waiting until the second legs?

Re: Champions League Third Qualifying Round 1st Leg - Tues 29th & Wed 30th July AALBORG BK - DINAMO ZAGREB These odds still confuse me. Dinamo Zagreb is an expirienced squad with some great individuals (Soudani, Ademi...) and highly motivated after big investments in the squad for this years shot at Championship League. Why are AaB favorites? Aab is, as much as I see it, a decent squad, without any player standing out, they play with a lot of short passes, are good at set pieces, and... That's it. No long balls, no fast strikers, no relevant european expirience (last year they were beaten by Dila Gori in second qualifying round). And their (maybe) best player Kusk was sold to Twente. OK, disciplined, decent squad. I feel very comfortable taking punts at Dinamo not to lose and Dinamo to win. They won last 4 competitive matches, aren't missing anyone except for Junior Fernandes, and they have El Arabi Hilal Soudani playing his best football after returning from the World Cup. I would even take Soudani to score. Dinamo (Z) not to lose, 1.50 (BET365) Dinamo (Z) away win, 2.75 (BET365)

Actually I did. But I thought if Sparta happens to win comfortably (as HastGill1 predicts as well), and Steaua grabs a decent result in Kazakhstan (1-1 or 2-2 for example), the qualification might be well in their bags. I do not expect at all Zenit to loose in Cyprus, and even if somehow Salzburg will loose by one goal, they should be well able to turn things around at home. Taking into account all of these I thought it's better to place an acca before the first leg, rather than wait for the results but risking the odds dropping from ~2.00 to ~1.50 or maybe even less that does not worth to back.

Re: Champions League Third Qualifying Round 1st Leg - Tues 29th & Wed 30th July Debrecen - Bate Borisov Debrecen had hard times in the first match against Cliftonville. They don't have enough skills to open their rivals defensive game as I saw first round of the CL qualifications. On the other side I guess Bate will play cautios game on away. Their attack also not good enough to give pressure. First game will show us a controlled game and my prediction is we won't see 3 or more goals. Under 2.5 @ 1,55 7/10

Re: Champions League Third Qualifying Round 1st Leg - Tues 29th & Wed 30th July AALBORG BK - DINAMO ZAGREB Ok so just watched extended highlights of both their last matches and I think Dinamo are a better team. The first notable difference is the touch. Dinamo are more technical and the touches are much nicer than the Danes who a few times turned over possession with basic ball control errors. Also the build up play and threat of AaB is very basic and predictable whereas you can instantly see the Croats are intelligent and dangerous when they attack. A concern is they conceded 3 goals. A simple goal keeper error, an own goal from a cross and another goal from a cross situation. AaB won 2-0 but were hardly dominant. It was a highlight reel of two teams not taking their chances and it was like a game of Russian roulette when AaB's opponent had the chance to pass the ball into a wide open angle left by the keeper but curled the ball just outside the post. Finally AaB finished off a cross from close range then were awarded a soft penalty to seal the match. Zagrab have won their last 4 matches (both UCL matches and both league matches) and just by seeing the way these two play football I think Zagrab have a good chance of taking something in Denmark and the Draw no bet markets are around evens. Soudani scored the last 2 in the 3-4 victory one was a great header past the face of the keeper and the other was him navigating his way through heavy traffic in the box and then keeping his head to find a finish. Certainly looks more dangerous than any player I saw from AaB.

Great post Toto, just one small thing: Last Dinamo match was fixed as you can read in croatian media in last few days. They play against their team lokomotiva who had 8 games last year from 2-1 and 1-2. Just for info few hours before game price for 1-2 was around 7 which is very low. Anyway back to this game still agree Dinamo is better team but not sure they will win away. Im expecting game with low goals. Sent from my XT615 using PL Forum

Re: Champions League Third Qualifying Round 1st Leg - Tues 29th & Wed 30th July Slovan Bratislava (2.10) for me! They did the job in the previous round and it's all that matters IMO. There's no point to go deep into the analysis of their performances vs.TNS. The mentality of today's match is completely different, so obviously compared to TNS match, Slovan will be fired up for this one, with much better approach to the match. They looked just fine in the pre-season friendlies, they opened the new season by winning the Slovak Super Cup and they're on a four-game winning run at the moment, plus they play at home and are still the club with much bigger tradition than Sheriff. I don't expect a walkover, but they're still a slightly favs in this tie, IMO.

The percentage figure shows the implied chance according to the odds. So odds of 1.3 on Sparta Praha qualifying imply a 77% chance (1/1.3). If you think they've got a 90% chance of qualifying, then it's a good bet, but if you reckon they've only got a 60% chance, it's a bad one. Look at each bet on its' own, and decide if it's good value or not. It's a bit of work, but after you've done it, you will have an accumulator bet that is more likely to be good value. Good luck with what ever you decide :ok

Thanks for your input, sir! I really appreciate it. Also, I agree that if we do not spend and sacrifice time on researching and analyzing all of our picks we might not find the best value. Thanks again!
