Re: Ante-Post > Championship Promotion 2014/15 From what I saw last season I would say Wigan and Derby County will probably be promoted. Although I have my doubts on whether Steve McClaren can keep things going as well as he did last season. I don't see Cardiff and Fulham bouncing back, but Norwich might and have brought Grabban from Bournemouth, which signals (to me anyway) they were doing their homework last season in the event they were relegated.

Re: Ante-Post > Championship Promotion 2014/15

Certainly think Wigan will do well. They've kept key players so far and should carry on the end of last seasons form.
They've lost Jean Beausejour (35 league apps/2 league goals), Jordi Gomez (33/7) and Nick Powell (31/7) from last season so far, looks like quite a lot of quality (and goals) taken out of that side.

Re: Ante-Post > Championship Promotion 2014/15 Wigan won't be playing in the Europa league this season and that probably affected the start last season also they had a long cup run that may have affected them. Derby were quite close to Burnley (my team) last season and was impressed by them when they played us they were unfortunate to get a red card in a close game. They finished the season very well after a average start. Also Blackburn finished the season well and could have made play-offs but for a couple of games drawn towards the end of the season that they probably could/should have won. I think (unfortunately for a claret) that they have turned the corner after a few years sliding – they have strikers that can score the goals to get them up and make a push for promotion. Another thread mentions Bournemouth and I also think they will go well under Eddie Howe - improving again this season. Wolves and Ipswich are others i will keep an eye on The relegated prem teams generally under-achieve in this division and I see nothing about Cardiff, Fulham or Norwich to suggest they will go against that. QPR did last season but it was far from a formality for them So, for now... my 3 in no particular order – Wigan, Derby, Blackburn

Taylor Sinclair turned down Celtic and Aberdeen to move to Wigan, a very young and dynamic full back. Tavernier er from new castle has signed. I think the goals from Gomez and Powell will easily be replaced. They signed riera from osasuna, who scored 13 goals in la liga, including 2 vs Real Madrid in a 2-2 draw. Don cowie, another shrewd signing, he's done it with Cardiff, and huws on loan from man city, a young exciting player.

Re: Ante-Post > Championship Promotion 2014/15 As a Norwich fan coming down from the Premiership, I see Wigan and Derby as most likely to be there at the end of the season, especially the latter. As for my team, there is still a fair amount of uncertainty surrounding the team, as I guess there is with a lot of teams at this stage of the summer, but we do not know how many of the star players will be here at the start of the season. Most noticeably Van Wolfswinkel, Hooper and Fer have been subject to interest. Van Wolfswinkel and Fer have come out in the press and say they are happy to stay, although Snodgrass also said the same! If you ask 10 Norwich fans to guess the starting 11 on the opening day, I think you'd get 10 different lineups. Another potential problem with Norwich is the manager, Neil Adams. Very much an unknown and little experience. A Norwich 'legend' from his playing days, all fans want him to do well. In summary, a lot of uncertainty remains at Carrow Rd and looking at the season at this early stage, it could go either way. Personally, I am not too confident despite good looking signings in Grabban and Lafferty. As I mentioned earlier I would be looking at Derby followed by perhaps Wigan, and wouldn't be surprised to see Wolves in the shake up.

Re: Ante-Post > Championship Promotion 2014/15 Any thoughts on Millwall?Very unlikely to pull off an upset I know but I think a very important factor in this league can be who is at the helm of sides that are successful.Hull had no right going up under Bruce with the squad they had and the same could be said about both of the sides Holloway brought to the Premiership. It'd be a very tall order but I think there's a good chance they'll be competitive. Mccarthy is another one with that bit of experience but Ipswich look very short to me,the strength of their squad is less than desirable too.Looking at squad quality Wolves are one that have a crazy amount of experience considering everything that's happened to them over the last two years,it's mad they've managed to keep the core of their Premiership side whilst going down two divisions.I like Kenny Jackett as a manager but he is a bit unproven under weighty expectations, this side really should do well.I might see how things start for them and jump on a larger price if they start a bit slower,it'll be very difficult to see this side not compete for promotion, they should be around the playoff fight at least come the business end. Bolton stick out to me as well.Freedman's another fairly unproven manager under massive pressure this season. He's been given a lot of time by these day's standards to settle the ship and the board will expect results this year.I think he can deliver with the squad available to him now,a couple of old vets were let go but there's still some decent experience in the squad, they do lack a cutting edge though. If one or two more quality players can be added they'll have a strong enough squad and have a price that would match the dark horse tag.

Re: Ante-Post > Championship Promotion 2014/15 Re Canaries91,I think a lot depends on how the best players from last year react to the task of getting out of this extremely competitive league.Bassong looks like he wants out and he's a huge player for them, his attitude could affect team harmony.Fer looked decent last year but RVW could be the player that makes or breaks the promotion push.Supposedly took a bad knock this week, signs maybe that he's not taking anything lightly and is giving it his most in training. That quality he showed for Utrecht and SL is still there but luck has gone against him a bit. He'll miss a lot of pre-season,but if he's 100% fit I feel he's a level above this league and could spearhead the struggle back to the top flight.Grabban is an excellent signing, wouldn't have much faith in Lafferty but there's solid firepower there and that always gives you a chance in this league.

Re: Ante-Post > Championship Promotion 2014/15 I'd keep an eye on Ipswich as McCarthy has a knack of doing well in this league and he's had a good amount of time to shape his team now. All the talk from my team Wolves is we are going for a promotion push and we obviously have momentum. In reality I think most fans accept we will be just outside the playoffs. However, we've been linked with a few signings in Chris Wood and Patrick Bamford so adding them might be enough for a playoff push.

Re: Ante-Post > Championship Promotion 2014/15 Nottingham Forest As a supporter I don't think I have felt such excitement for the new season. Pearce has already galvanised the club. He has money and the signings so far have been quality. We still like a 20 goal a season striker and injuries are still an issue. If Forest start well we will finish top six.

Matty Fryatt will get you 20+ goals in the championship, he should be a big player this season for Forest.

Re: Ante-Post > Championship Promotion 2014/15 My worry about Fryatt would be his lack of game-time over the last two years since his bad injury, should be at his peak right now though so if there was any time to get back on track it'd be now.If Forest's progress rests on the likes of him maybe he'd be a better look at top scorer rather than Forest to succeed at a shorter price? Not sure about Pearce at all,has never really left an impression as a manager.Seems to have gone about things the right way not jumping into jobs left right and centre but he's still very inexperienced for someone 10 years in a profession.

Pearce!!!!!!! Absolutely shocking at man city..nearly relegated them.9 home league goals in his last season and none after New year's day.Ok that might not mean much now but I have a feeling that this will end in tears

Re: Ante-Post > Championship Promotion 2014/15 Two teams that have not been mentioned thus far are reading and Brighton I feel both will be in the top six at least come the end of the season and having come close last season they will feel that they will be able to have a real chance of promotion this time round

Re: Ante-Post > Championship Promotion 2014/15 Have to admit confidence is growing by the day on Teesside. We weren't a million miles away last year even with a manager change and Karanka has had the chance to get his philosophy across to his players now. A good pre-season under our belts and our squad looking better and better by the day. We have a forward now in Kike who could provide us with 20+ goals this year and we have strengthened in other areas with the likes of Omeruo back on loan for the season, Husband signing from Doncaster and another right sided player signing from Spain. We are being heavily linked with another couple of Chelsea youngsters as well as Lowton from Villa who would be a cracking signing. All the fancy prices for us to go up have gone now but I am very confident of a good showing from our team this year.

Re: Ante-Post > Championship Promotion 2014/15 2pts Blackburn to be promoted 13/2 Skybet One side who almost made the playoffs last season were Blackburn. If they could have stopped shipping goals they may well have got in. Rovers finished the season well though and the quiet but effective Gary Bowyer has addressed the defensive situation by bringing in Alex Baptiste. In Jordan Rhodes they have a goal machine and it is a massive vote of confidence for Bowyer and the club that he has just signed a lengthy contract. I always feel momentum from the end of one season can be carried into the next and with Rovers improving season by season under the stability of Bowyer they can make the playoffs and maybe beyond this season. Re: Ante-Post > Championship Promotion 2014/15 I am a watford fan. I agree the prices are wrong but (and i hope i am wrong) we wont get promoted. We lack consistency. We havent really strung a run of good performances together all season. Heads drop quite quick when things go wrong and we cannot beat the teams at the top of the table (except brentford) I bet us last week again at 14/1 as it isny the 3 horse race the bookies had it priced up as at that point but we were lame as f*ck against norwich and a brave bet. That said it is close and if they can find some consistency. I believe the Ighalo and Deeney combination to be the best forward line in the division and the team does score goals. Hope that helps!

Re: Ante-Post > Championship Promotion 2014/15 Interesting that the odds are still pretty long on Wolves promotion. 9/1+ you can get. We have the momentum for sure. I'd be fairly confident about taking on anyone in the playoffs except bournemouth and Norwich and for a team that is only outside the playoffs on goal difference I think 9/1 represents some value.

I think that all of the first 8 teams have a realistic chance of either direct promotion or promotion via the play-offs. 9/1 for Wolves seems amazing value.
