Re: Binchy's Lays Just done some backtesting and your system is great, hopefully the liquidity is enough to share for people to reap the benefits longterm. This month favourites have won to return 1% profit BSP but your picks are drifting more so they aren't fav's by the start always so I guess that could be the deal winner. Keep it up!

Re: Binchy's Lays What baffles me is how something like Division Belle gets such a strong following in the odds. It neither had the best TS or RPR or Form really. I'm starting to think it's manipulated by the bookies to get people to bet on it knowing it's not the likeliest of winners.

Re: Binchy's Lays For anybody who is following the thread, here are stats breakdowns as far as I can see so far : System 1 : 59/72 - 82% System 2 : 49/56 - 88% I would like opinions on whether people think there is anything that could be adjusted with the staking plan to improve the system. From my own records, I have been testing the system for three months, to about £480 profit. So projected profit equals nearly £2000. Do you think it is worth raising stakes?

Re: Binchy's Lays Binchy, Thanks once again for putting this up, and I'm happy to put my two penn'orth in. It's very early days yet but you seem to have produced a robust laying system. The trouble with laying is that it is a very plodding form of gambling and you need to protect your stake and bank as we are always prone to being wiped out when the occasional bet goes the wrong way. Because of this, after a long time experimenting, I have come to the conclusion that level stakes, to liability, is the only way. It's a dull form of gambling, but with the right selection method it can be relentlessly, if slowly, profitable. You have a bank of £1,000, according to your first post and over only a few weeks you have made a 40% profit. That's some going. Personally, if I were you I wouldn't change much, but I will make some suggestions. 1. If possible get yourself a bot and lay he horses at the time of the off, setting a maximum price up to 7.00 or so but definitely no higher. 2. If you can get a bot then lay to a liability of a percentage of your opening bank and stay on this until you have a predetermined profit. 3. Once you have made a satisfactory profit, say50% of the original bank, then increase your liability by 25% - 50% and as you achieve the predetermined profit target keep increasing it. 4. Combine both of the systems as one - it makes it easier to follow the results, I find. All I in all, I can find nothing to improve your system, the above are just suggestions. I know how hard this game can be. Protecting your bank and your profit are the important this to do and you don't seem to be doing too badly, do you??!! All the best, Bill

Binchy, The trouble with laying is that it is a very plodding form of gambling and you need to protect your stake and bank as we are always prone to being wiped out when the occasional bet goes the wrong way. Forgive me if I have misconstrued what your saying, but are you implying to leave it "in play" to 1:1 or 2.0. The major problem with that, is that there is no data for how many drop in odds, and how many drift straight out to much higher. Of all the bets placed only 10% might hit the criteria, and you would end up with maybe a few percent of those being winners. If anyone pays for TIMEFORM.COM then you could probably go back over all the Lays to see which do, but I have tried to do just that. (I have put quite a few of Binchy's lays at 2.5 or 3.5 when they are in the 6's or 7's and the bets never get placed. I wonder if the raise in stake at level odds would outweigh the loss of guarenteed £10'ers I think you need to stretch the criteria a little with selections. I played around with it today. I chose horse in races with 8-12 runners, through the whole day based on their odds and their TS and RPR. Basically system two but a bit looser. Of the 16 I choose only 1 won. I will keep doing it for few days as that could have been a very lucky day, but I think there might be a little more room for selections, particularly in maybe choosing 2nd favourite if they don't feature in the top 6 or 3rd favourite in the top 7 etc. Since the system (imo) is relying on people or bookies pushing the odds down on a horse that may actually not have great ability, then maybe a rubbish horse is not dropping far enough to make the top spot.

Re: Binchy's Lays I think the plan your using - "mixed staking to fixed liability laying" is suitable at the strike rate and I'd raise stakes at £1500 personally to £15.00 / £30.00. I wouldn't commit too much to any one system as it may turn worse, I had similar results on one of my systems only for it to be up 10 points from 100 picks now for example.

Re: Binchy's Lays Thank for all your comments gents, I have taken bit of everyone's on board. I think like billy said, laying is a slow game. I find that it certainly doesn't provide the thrill of picking a winner, but I am certainly proving a damn sight better at it! Although saying that I have a trends system which is going pretty well, but obviously it only applies to the big races so it doesn't provide many selections, but is in profit of £400+ since late March. I think I just need to work on the pyschological side of things, I don't like to see a day of racing go by and not have any 'backing' interest in it. Anyway, Todays Results : System 1 : [TABLE]

Re: Binchy's Lays I tell you what would be interesting. Is it possible to get a bot that will place a different bet based on a maximum liability and a minimum or maximum odds swing. Bare with me! :) If you were assuming a maximum of £70 liability and the runner starts of at 4.5. Could it be set to trigger a £10 lay at 8.0, however if you set a minimum, say at 2 - 2.5 could it then lay a £60/70 bet if it's matched in play. King Calypso was 2nd yesterday and could have matched a potential £70, instead of £10. Betfair's in play keep allows a minimum, but lacks the ability to change the stake or also have a maximum. The only potential downfall would be a favourite who sits at the back and then makes a huge final few furlong.
