May be you can help me to answer them. You selected Mishrif to lay in the Yarmouth 3:50 race. Well, this is not the favorite and as far as I can see it hasn´t been either. Why has it been selected? Do you take only the top favorite or do you look at all horses that are quoted near the favorite's odds? I don´t have access to the Racingpost but looking on www.besttipping.com/newspaper-tips.php Mashrif has been named by "Irish Independent", "The Irish Times" and "The Mirror" to win this race what meens that this horse has at least three nominations and not the maximum of one nomination you allowed in your selection method. Did I make any mistake ? Two more short questions: Where on the Racingpost website can I find the newspaper predictions (or only possible as a member?) And in your first post you wrote that any * or nb is wiped off the list. What stands * and nb for ? Thank you for your help and patience! Best regards brecki

  • At the time I did my selections, Mishrif was favourite both in the back market and lay market on betfair. The time I do the selections vary from day to day but a rough guide is selections for Tues, Thurs are selected at around 11pm the day before, selections for Mon, Wed and Fri usually 10pm the day before, Saturday between 9am and 12am on the day. Due to the times most of the best are placed there is relatively low liquidity in the market, creating false favourites.
  • These are the newspapers Racing Post use for selections. As you will see, this example is from the race in question, 3:50 Yarmouth, where you will note only 1 selection for Mishrif. I believe you have to be a member to view this information, although I could be wrong. RGX - I did look at that myself the other day actually and get confused. The result 'won' or 'lost' is in relation to the result of the race rather than the bet. So as this is a laying thread we want horses to lose rather than win. There fore the universally accepted colour (no idea why???) for profit is green, and for loss is red. So red indicates a loss. Hope this helps.

Re: Binchy's Lays You need a Betfair account. I would suggest you understand the difference between Laying vs Betting before you start doing it. Simply put it's being the bookie. Binchy is suggesting horses you choose to take someones £10 if it loses but would have to give them around 30-40 quid if it wins. It's not for the faint hearted or the stupid, as I proved today, when accidentally Laying Luhaif who had moved to the favourite position, in my haste I made the mistake thinking it was Mishrif, and it ended up costing me £40 Woodbridge @ 8.40 is now a non runner.

Re: Binchy's Lays As above RGX. I've been in to horses for 3 or 4 years now and I'm only just coming to terms with laying. The reason people do it rather than backing is because for example if you had 12 runners and you're looking for the winner, you have a 1/12 chance. If you're looking for a loser, unless its a dead heat, you have 11/12 chance on winning. I don't find it as satisfying as backing a winner and one lose can wipe out 6 wins so its just a game of patience.
