Re: World Cup 2014 > Top Goalscorer Outright Betting Ive done Diego Costa @ 25/1 Bet365 and also doubled that @ 66/1 with Spain to win the whole thing.Think Costa is a goal machine,Spain a great team already but now have world class striker,Costa is Brazilian so wont have to aclimatise and just thought was fantastic odds.

Re: World Cup 2014 > Top Goalscorer Outright Betting I think France will go far and have a good group to score goals, so benzema is a good shout mate. I'm personally going for Aguero, he got plenty in qualifiers and a natural predator in an Argentina team that I think will score freely

Re: World Cup 2014 > Top Goalscorer Outright Betting I agree that benzema is short and will have chances in the groups and messi too - will play them later but have started with a couple of long shot punts each way aleksander kokorin 150/1 betvictor scored at a clip of a goal every two games in qualifying, they should qualify from the group with belgium and algeris and south korea dont look too hard so theres chances to bag a few in the groups and the russians do have a bit of pedigree in these markets with salenko in 1994 and dzagoev dead heating at the last euros, seemed better value than kerzakhov who is shorter in the markets and also scored at 1 in 2 during qualification teofilo gutierrez @ 66/1 betvictor someone has to score for colombia if falcao doesnt make the tournament right? again the group doesnt seem that challenging and gutierrez seems the likliest to produce the goals for a colombia side that was fancied to go reasonably well in the tournament prior to the injury to falcao and to be perfectly honest still look like they could go to the quarters, worth a punt each way anyways!!! good luck to all who play, we all know this is a treacherous market to play

Re: World Cup 2014 > Top Goalscorer Outright Betting It may be unoriginal and probably does not smack of much value, but given the easy group Argentina have and the fact I think they will probably win the World Cup this year, I think Messi has a massive opportunity to land the Golden Boot. If he can't produce the goods in South America near his home, in climate he is well used to, with some star studded players around him like Aguero, Higuain, Di Maria etc, I don't think he will ever do it. He has scored 18 goals in 16 games for Argentina in the past 2 years which is a bonkers return and although he did not have the best of seasons with Barcelona, he still scored 41 goals. Hopefully he will show the world he can do it at the World Cup, which is where all the great players show how good they are. The other player I have backed at huge odds is Edin Dzeko, he should not be that price in my opinion. His goalscoring record is sublime for club and country. I know they have Argentina in their group but it wouldn't be the biggest shock in the world if Bosnia were to get a draw, they are a very good outfit and there will be no pressure on them. Even if Argentina beat them, I fancy them to beat Nigeria and Iran so I still think they can get to the knockout stages. Dzeko is the type of player that could easily net a brace or even three against the likes of Iran. He scored 26 times for Manchester City this season as a fringe player and has scored 33 times in 60 games for Bosnia. He smacks of value to me. Lionel Messi - 1 Point @ 9.0 Betfair Edin Dzeko - 1 Point @ 75.0 Betfair

Re: World Cup 2014 > Top Goalscorer Outright Betting I fancy Fred and Higuain in this market. Fred should be a starter for Brazil and has been in decent form of late. Playing in this Brazil team you would hope he would get plenty of chances created for him. I appreciate Hulk and Neymar will probably be on free kick and penalty duty but I think Fred should bag a few at the spearhead of the attack. Similar story Higuain really. Messi and Aguero are expected to be the main men for Argentina but it doesnt always work out like this. Looking at the stats for the main attackers in this team, Higuain is just as, if not more, prolific for Argentina than the other 2, and Messi doesnt always produce his best for the national side. I think Higuains odds are too big and I will be having some. Fred 25/1 @ betfair Higuain 22/1 @ betfair

Re: World Cup 2014 > Top Goalscorer Outright Betting Hi everyone, I'm a new member of this forum! first of all excuse me for my bad english. i was reading your opinions and I thought they were very interesting, but I want to propose you something different. Sure, Brasil and Argentina will be the main teams for the final victory, so probably the top goalscorer will be one of their players, but Argentina will play with Aguero, Messi and Higuain, while Brasil has Neymar and Fred, I'm not sure there will be only one important scorer for each team (for example I don't think Higuain will score 5 goals, while Messi and Aguero 0 or 1). In my opinion an interesting option is Lukaku (@34): he had a fantastic season and he scored 3 goals against Luxemburg and 1 goal yesterday against Sweden. I know that they were only frendly matches but if we see group H we will play with Algery, South Korea and Russia. I'm almost sure that Belgium will pass the group as leader so probably will play against Portugal/Usa/Ghana and if they win against Argentina (?). I think the goal scorer will do 5-6 goals so Lukaku top scorer is possible if he scores 4-5 goals in the group's matches. What do you think?

Hi everyone' date=' I'm a new member of this forum! first of all excuse me for my bad english. i was reading your opinions and I thought they were very interesting, but I want to propose you something different. In my opinion an interesting option is [b']Lukaku (@34): he had a fantastic season and he scored 3 goals against Luxemburg and 1 goal yesterday against Sweden.
Nice first post Nick, very welcome to the forum. :welcome Lukaku has as good a chance as anybody. Every chance we could get a top scorer from a team that get no further than the Last 16, I can see the likes of a Lukaku or a Dzeko netting 3 or 4 against the likes of Iran/Nigeria etc.

Re: World Cup 2014 > Top Goalscorer Outright Betting

Historically' date=' I'm pretty sure that's rarely if ever happened.[/quote'] That is because historically there were only 16 teams in the World Cup up until the 1980's. Nowadays, there are 32 teams, more games, some weaker teams in the groups than there were back then, and it is possible for a player to score a hat-trick against the likes of Iran, Algeria, score another one or two between the other two games and the Last 16 tie, get knocked out and win the Golden Boot. Thomas Muller won the Golden Boot with only 5 goals 4 years ago.

Re: World Cup 2014 > Top Goalscorer Outright Betting

salenko 1994?
Yup, Salenko scored 5 goals in one game against Cameroon, and Russia didn't even get out of their group. He ended up with 6 goals and a share of the Golden Boot.

Re: World Cup 2014 > Top Goalscorer Outright Betting Jackson Martinez Top Goalscorer 51 Bet365 1/10 For me there is a lot of value in this odds. Columbia will be without Falcao in the world cup and Martinez will be the leader upfront. Group is not the strognest and Columbia will qualify at least for the second round. I'll try secure bet E/W 1-2-3-4 in Bet365.

Re: World Cup 2014 > Top Goalscorer Outright Betting I like Brazil's Fred (having backed him at last year's Confederation Cup, where he finished joint top scorer with Torres). But watching Brazil v Panama last night, I thought he looked poor, and perhaps injured. He wasn't moving well. I was left in doubt about whether he will start and how fit he is.

They mentioned Salenko, but also said 'Oleg Salenko is the only man to have finished at least joint-top without having reached at least the quarter final stage' since 1986. Another important thing to remember is that the last four teams are guaranteed two games - because of the third-place match. Personally, I think it's probably best to try to work out the likely last four or last eight teams, and then choose the best value goalscorers from them.

As I tried to work out the Top 4/8 teams, the European teams are giving me a selection dilemma: is there a clear-cut goalscorer from Germany/Spain/Italy/England?

As I tried to work out the Top 4/8 teams' date=' the European teams are giving me a selection dilemma: is there a clear-cut goalscorer from Germany/Spain/Italy/England?[/quote'] germany-i would select reus as top scorer for germany but only from a value perspective Spain-costa if fit but i would have doubts until we see him play italy-balotelli but italy traditionally don't score loads england-sturridge but goals likely to be shared around in short none of these teams likely to provide the top scorer barring a fit costa which looks doubtful

Re: World Cup 2014 > Top Goalscorer Outright Betting Lukaku has been backed like crazy. Was like 33's now 20's maybe get 22's if you shop around. I'm a big fan of the Belgium team and think they should be there or there abouts for the next few woeld cups but i don't think there is value there anymore. Benzema at 32's looks good and i have taken the gamble on costa with PP at 25/1. Reports looking like he should make it, and for a team i fully expect to reach the semi's and get 7 games whatever happens in the semi's i think thats pretty good. The price is reflective of the injury concerns which will be a worry but i think its a pretty good price. If you can correctly predict any one of the 5 possibilities who will be up top for Germany then there is value there.

Re: World Cup 2014 > Top Goalscorer Outright Betting Reus looks to be out. Schurrle or podolski could well come in for him. And at around 70-80/1 could represent decent value. Especially for players who both have some experience at playing in the striker role.

Re: World Cup 2014 > Top Goalscorer Outright Betting Top Goalscorer preview: 1pt ew K.Benzema Top Goalscorer 33/1 Coral (1/4 1-4) Goalscoring strikers who come alive in the box aren’t as regular in supply in this tournament as they used to be. Many of the number nines are used as hold up players to bring the wide and attacking midfielders in the game but one old school type forward who should have a very good tournament is France’s Karim Benzema. In a weird way Benzema might benefit from Franck Ribery’s absence in this tournament because he will definitely be the main man and there are a lot of creative players in the French midfield armed with the task of providing his ammunition. Benzema goes into this tournament off the back of a fine season with Real Madrid and with France having a wonderful draw and a group against opponents who concede plenty of goals I think this is all set up for Benzema to push hard for the Golden Boot. 0.5pts ew D.Villa Top Goalscorer 80/1 BetVictor (1/4 1-4) One man who has been forgotten in this market in many ways is David Villa. Four years ago he was the bees knees and played a big part in Spain getting to the title. He may not be quite the player he was then these days but he’s just won La Liga and was seconds away from winning the Champions League too and with Diego Costa struggling with the injury that saw his Champions League final cut short and likely to receive a massive amount of stick for defecting from Brazil it could be that Villa gets the starting role up front for Spain. Were that to be the case then the 80/1 quotes chalked up on him could look ridiculous pretty quickly. At those odds he’s well worth a punt. 0.5pts ew J.Rodriguez Top Goalscorer 150/1 Bet365 (1/4 1-4) James Rodriguez is one of the more exciting youngsters in the tournament. Anyone who has seen him play for Monaco this season will know just what he brings to the table from wide areas but he can play off the striker too. Crucially for this punt he is Colombia’s penalty taker and in a group where defences aren’t the best the Colombians, who push the boundaries with dives, could easily bag a penalty or two. Given that he can score from open play too the 150/1 on Rodriguez going well looks a bit too big here. 0.5pts ew A.Vidal Top Goalscorer 150/1 Coral (1/4 1-4) Arguably the best value in this entire market is the talented Chilean Arturo Vidal. Initially you have to take a risk that he’ll be fit for Chile’s opening game but if he is what a bet you will have at 150/1. No side attack more than Chile at this tournament and better still he is Chile’s penalty taker, and a mighty fine penalty taker he is too. The Juventus midfielder gets into excellent positions through the middle of the park and with Chile employing strikers who play out wide in Alexis Sanchez and Eduardo Vargas, Vidal could just be the man to score Chile’s goals. Re: World Cup 2014 > Top Goalscorer Outright Betting I've by and larged echoed Aidy here, albeit at smaller odds. Messi to win Golden Boot @ 8.8 [betfair] Karim Benzema Top Goalscorer @ 30 [betfair] Edin Dzeko Top Goalscorer @ 55 [betfair] Argentina's group looks weak, especially defensively, so I expect them to score a lot of goals. They also have a fairly easy path to the Semis, where I expect they'll face Switzerland in the R16 and then Belgium or Portugal in the QF. Argentina are not the best defensively so they are likely to play to their strengths and Messi's qualities are obvious for all to see. The reason I have taken him for Golden Boot and not Top Goalscorer is that in the event of a tie I feel Messi is more likely to have more assists than any of the other top goalscorer favourites. It's a bit risky and greedy but I think the fact Argentina will score more goals makes this the best way to back Messi. As for Dzeko, he's in the same group as the Argies and I just think the defence of the other two teams is weak. He'd need 4-5 goals from the group stages to be a chance but he's their clear leader in attack and is quality finisher. France have a similarly weak group and with Bosnia their likely R16 opponent I can see them going to at least the QF stage and possibly beyond. Benzema is a more in the box striker which bodes well for his goalscoring chances and with teams like Honduras and Ecuador looking very shaky at the back I think the Frenchman could really profit. Have taken the latter two for top goalscorer as I don't see either as being likely to win tie breakers for golden boot.

Re: World Cup 2014 > Top Goalscorer Outright Betting I am tempted to put some on Jackson Martinez at 80/1. Columbia are in a fairly okay group for them and with Falcao out he is their man man. If they win their group and they get Uruguay in the second round there is a very real possibility they could be going as far as the QF's. 80/1 is insane value.

Re: World Cup 2014 > Top Goalscorer Outright Betting Guys another man with a shout for top scorer is Carlos Bacca for columbia 125/1 with Coral. If he can get a starting place he could do damage. has 3 goals in 8 starts for columbia and had a really good season with sevilla winning the europa league and scoring 14 league goals including a double v real madrid.

He's not their main man at all and didn't play in either of their recent friendlies. Teofilio Gutierrez looks nailed down as a forward pick for Columbia, he was second top goalscorer in qualifying after Falcao yet is continually overlooked in this market.

Re: World Cup 2014 > Top Goalscorer Outright Betting Alexis Sanchez @ 66/1 Chile play an attacking 4-3-3 and will not be involved in any 0-0 bore draw like Greece or Italy say, They will be free scoring against the Aussies, maybe 5 or 6, and sharing a few goals with Holland. I can see them qualifying from the group, maybe winning it.
