Re: UEFA Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg > 1st August Swansea v Malmo This is my bet of the week without a doubt, think Swansea are perfectly set up to beat Malmo in this first leg and I've gone in early and heavy! Swansea have had a cracking pre-season winning all 7 games and conceding only 1 in the process - obviously this will be the toughest test they have faced so far though - a mixed side beat Reading 3-0 on Sat. Laudrup has added intelligently to the squad signing the highly sought after Bony from Vitesse, a possible bargain in Shelvey from Liverpool and a few Spanish players which is obviously his specialty. Chico Flores will miss this first leg and his place will be taken by new signing Spain U21 international Jordi Amat who signed from Espanyol for £2.5m, otherwise the squad is fit and ready to go, Swansea last played in Europe 22 years ago and the crowd will be well up for this one and I expect it to sell-out or be very close to it. They will play the strongest side available which might be in contrast to some other big sides in this round and they certainly want to go as far as possible in the competition. I watched Malmo at the weekend in losing to Gefle 2-0 and I thought they looked a big leggy and tired. Central defender Johannsen got injured and is now a doubt for the game. They battered a poor Hibs side in the last round but I don't think Hibs are anywhere near Swansea's level, probably a poor Championship level side. This is what their captain had to say after the weekends loss:

'Malmo captain Jiloan Hamad said: "We're in a tough period with a tight schedule at the moment and it showed. We didn't have the strength. "We just have to suck it up and dig in. We have to accept and move on. "We have a couple of important days ahead. First we need some rest, then regroup and prepare for Swansea."'
Swansea play a continental brand of football and I can see the advanced positions their attacking midfielders take up giving Malmo all sorts of problems, their full-backs looked slow and their was alarming amounts of space between the central midfield and defence at times..I'm not suggesting it will be a walkover as Malmo have proved this season they are a decent side but I think Swansea re far stronger and will comfortably win this first leg, the odds are higher than I was expecting and I'm taking them early. Swansea - 1.62 - ladbrokes - 10 Points Swansea -1.0AH - 1.9 - bet365 - 10 Points Swansea -1EH - 2.65 - ladbrokes - 10 Points Swansea -2.0AH - 4.0 - betinternet - 5 Points

Re: UEFA Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg > 1st August Good post hastgil. I agree everything looks to be in Swanseas favor here. Malmo have played 7 games in 24 days and that includes 2 flights 1 to Ireland and 1 to Scotland and now another to Swansea. i think fatigue is becoming a factor for them. They obviously are not a bad side they showed that against Hibs but mid table premier league team against top Swedish side the gulf is very big.

Re: UEFA Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg > 1st August Fedar (or anybody else) tdo you think that Petrolul has a chance to go through to the next round against Vitesse? Vitesse have lost 2 of their best players to English clubs (Bony to Swansea) , (van Ginkel to Chelsea). Dont now much about the Romanian league so any info would be appriciated. Odds to Qualigy is 2.55 and 1.45 in Vitesses favor @BWIN

Re: UEFA Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg > 1st August Petrolul aldo lost their best striker Bokila and some orger good players, Mojica, Cristescu and Grecu. They have some players with little experience in EL like Hoban, Geraldo, Grozav or Texeira. I think that they won't lose in the first leg at home. Even if Vitesse lost their best players including here Kakuta and Kalas, they still have Van Anholt, Havenaar, Reis or Theo Jenssen. Petrolul can win at home but in the away game they won't stay at the same lavel with Vitesse.

Re: UEFA Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg > 1st August Europa League Qualify round Slask Wroclaw-Brugge Pick: Over 2,5 goals Odd: 1,85 Slask is an offensive minded team with a weak defence. Last year they played against Hannover and lost 3-5 at home and 1-5 in Germany and two years ago they lost against Rapid 1-3 at home. Brugge sold their best striker, Bacca, but they stil have De Sutter, Tchite or Gudjhonssen. I think that we'll se an open game thet will end 2-2 or 2-3 something there.

Re: UEFA Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg > 1st August Minsk v St Johnstone I feel St Johnstone have a good chance of coming back with something from this one. Having dispatched Rosenborg - opponents of undoubtedly higher calibre than Minsk - in the previous round, they would appear to have a great chance of taking a step closer to the group stages. Firstly, the game will not be played at Minsk's home stadium, which is currently being renovated, but instead 140 miles away in Grodno - as a result, the home side aren't expected to have too many fans at the game. Secondly, Minsk are far from the strongest team in Belarus; they're currently 7th (out of 12) in their league, and last year they only finished 6th with a goal difference of -10, qualifying for Europe as a result of winning the Cup. Their only previous participation in the Europa League two years ago saw them edge past Azal of Azerbaijan 3-2 on aggregate before crashing out 5-2 on aggregate to Gaziantepspor of Turkey - so they don't have much European pedigree. Having seen St Johnstone several times last season, I would say they are one of the more solid teams in Scotland, and they have offset the loss of a couple of key players from last season with hot prospect Stevie May returning on loan and the signing of David Wotherspoon from Hibernian. With this in mind, the double chance (St Johnstone-Draw) looks tempting at 7/10 with Bet365, or for the more ambitious the outright win is 12/5.

Fedar (or anybody else) tdo you think that Petrolul has a chance to go through to the next round against Vitesse? Odds to Qualigy is 2.55 and 1.45 in Vitesses favor @BWIN[/quote'] Well, I am Bulgarian, not Romania, mate, but still can help here. :D This is a meeting between two teams that performed great last season, but which are heavily hit during the summer transfer window. Petrolul is the second best Romanian side - excellent attacking minded team, playing very good passing football and being supported by passionate and noisy fans. I would have surely considered backing them, but they miss at the moment their two best and most important players. Striker Bokila is "on strike", as he wants a transfer and is having an argument with the directors about that, therefore he doesn't play. He is outstanding target-man, great physique and formidable finishing, also takes part in the build-up of the game, as he often goes back to receive balls from the midfielders. Bokila was the best striker in Romania last season. The other guy they are going to miss is Marinescu - a very important midfielder, the creative genius of Petrolul, who is injured. Vitesse is probably more familiar to more punters here. The team had great season, but they are in similar situation as Petrolul - they lost their best player Wilfred Bony and one of their most important midfielder - Van Ginkel who went to Chelsea. Vitesse had very bad results during the summer pre-season games. On paper, this game was supposed to have many goals. However, under present circumstances and given the fact that this is a two-legged affair, I think that unders are more likely. Bookies are not stupid and they have detected this in their odds. I still feel there might be a marginal value of under 2.5 goals to be scored. Other than this, that game is a no-bet.

Re: UEFA Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg > 1st August Thursday preview: 3pts Malmo (+1AH) to beat Swansea 1.95 Bet365 This could be a tougher assignment for Swansea than they would like. It may be that we don’t see the best of them until the second leg next week when their preparations for the new season will be that much further on. Malmo are right in the middle of their season so their competitive juices will be very high and I think they’re a good bet on the +1 Asian handicap. Swansea are often guilty of not putting sides away or to the sword and with the better fitness in the Swedish side they could well steal a draw to take back to Sweden. Re: UEFA Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg > 1st August I've picked Swansea to win (Bet365) because I see more skill in their team, and I can't forget the 4:1 loss that Malmo suffered against Dinamo Zagreb last year. They don't seem to me like a side that can defend well, especially in the european away matches. Swansea (still coached by Laudrup) should put away a couple of goals, even if the Malmo tries to play defensively and to close the game.

Re: UEFA Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg > 1st August Havenaar will not play for Vitesse because he is tired from the matches of Japan this summer, so he stayed in Arnhem. vitesse is struggling with the first matches pre season, they have to find a new game plan with the loose of bony and v Ginkel. The new coach bosz is know for his attacking game so be carefull with the under. for the swansea game is bony already allowed to play? Otherwise he will make a big impact, is a real goal machine and so strong!

Yep, he set up two against Reading at the weekend and missed another chance, when the reporter questioned Laudrup about the missed chance he said 'yes he will have to wait another 5 days for his first goal' :lol..here's hoping anyway.

Re: UEFA Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg > 1st August I agree. I know next to nothing about Belarusian football but St Johnstone are definately one of the SPL's more capable sides. Positives for me - They have tended to do well in cup competitions over the past few seasons and have a tendency to attack in away matches which is what I think they'll do tonight. As Mighty Well says above the league form of Minsk is proabably a bit below St Johnstone and definately weaker than that of Rosenberg who were beaten 1-0 at home by St Johnstone in the last round. They may try and score early so the half time away win appeals...I think st Johnstone would settle for a draw but at 8/13 on the double chance is a bit skinny for me so I'm opting for St Johnstone draw no bet @ 6/4 as my main bet with a single on st johnstoneHT @ 3/1 And just possibly st johnstone -1 at 15/2 if they name a particularly offensive team =)

Minsk in the middle of the table. This is a good team for Belarus, with good players, but there is no stability. The match in Grodno, but I do not see any difference where to play, in Grodno, Minsk, or somewhere else then. In Minsk little fans. I think the match will be difficult for the teams, but odds of the guest team are very high.

Re: UEFA Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg > 1st August I think its too much to expect a Scottish team to win 2 away games in a row in Europe. I know very little about Belorussian football but if Scotland were away to Belarus, I'd be confidently laying Scotland. The 5/2 on Saints is far too low, so it's a very cheap and easy lay for me. Hope they can get a draw but I think it'll be tough out there.

Re: UEFA Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg > 1st August Swansea vs Malmo FF - Malmo +2 @1.4 + Under 3,5goals @1.45 Swansea qualified as defending League Cup champions. Finished on 9th in the Premier League last season and participates in Europe for the first time in the modern era. Swansea is of season and have in the break made some profile signings this summer, including the Eredivisie top scorer Will Fried Bonny and Jonjo Shelvey of Liverpool. But perhaps most importantly, they have kept key players Michu and Vorm. Malmö is eligible for a 3rd place in the Allsvenskan last season. This year the battle for league title in a very smooth Swedish top 5. Have 3-0-2 in form development in series. Went on from the previous round of macabre show when they beat Hibernian Scottish entire 9-0 over two games, 7-0 away from home. The result which reflects hardly strengthen the relationship between the two teams. Malmö made headlines for a few seasons ago when they beat Glasgow Rangers and has good traditions in Europe. Swansea is out of season, and you do not really fault if you skip or speculate on this at the current odds. - However, swedish teams have a good record of making a good first game in Europe, as Elfsborg did at Celtic Park yesterday (1-0). With that in hand with the knowledge that Swansea is of season meeting a Malmô in good form mid-season i see value in the AH here and a low scoring game. Boa sorte!

This is what their captain had to say after the weekends loss: Swansea play a continental brand of football and I can see the advanced positions their attacking midfielders take up giving Malmo all sorts of problems, their full-backs looked slow and their was alarming amounts of space between the central midfield and defence at times..I'm not suggesting it will be a walkover as Malmo have proved this season they are a decent side but I think Swansea re far stronger and will comfortably win this first leg, the odds are higher than I was expecting and I'm taking them early. Swansea - 1.62 - ladbrokes - 10 Points WIN Swansea -1.0AH - 1.9 - bet365 - 10 Points WIN Swansea -1EH - 2.65 - ladbrokes - 10 Points WIN Swansea -2.0AH - 4.0 - betinternet - 5 Points WIN
That feels nice...:cow I'll even give the dancing cow a rare outing! :lol Went pretty much as I hoped it would, what struck me when watching it was the difference in the quality of finishing compared to most of the other games in the qualifying I have watched so far. How many saves did the Malmo keeper make tonight? Very few I'm guessing, most of the shots Swansea had seemed to end up in the net, due to the quality of their approach play and the way they work the opportunities, there is probably a lesson in there for future bets. Swansea were very impressive for most of the match but Malmo looked knackered and pretty limited, Vorm had virtually nothing to do, Swansea's possession was very dominant throughout the game and Shelvey looked very impressive offering them something different. Good night, time for a beer I think..

what struck me when watching it was the difference in the quality of finishing compared to most of the other games in the qualifying I have watched so far. How many saves did the Malmo keeper make tonight? Very few I'm guessing' date=' most of the shots Swansea had seemed to end up in the net[/quote'] Bet365's stats showed Swansea having 8 shots on target to Malmo's 0. I think Uefa have it as 7-0. A goal for every two shots on target is a good return I think. I was also thinking your bets on this game show that it's sometimes better to 'concentrate your fire' on a small number of well-researched bets. I'm pretty sure that's one of the best ways to get an edge over the market as a whole. With so many football matches being played, it's easy to spread your bets too widely I think, and I am sometimes guilty of this.

Re: UEFA Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg > 1st August

This is what their captain had to say after the weekends loss: 'Malmo captain Jiloan Hamad said: "We're in a tough period with a tight schedule at the moment and it showed. We didn't have the strength. "We just have to suck it up and dig in. We have to accept and move on. "We have a couple of important days ahead. First we need some rest, then regroup and prepare for Swansea."'
By the way, where did you find this quote from HG? (I've seem some Swedish football sites but they are all in Swedish I think so not easy to navigate). Was this from UEFA's own site or somewhere else?

This sentence should be written in bold, printed out and put at the desk of each bettor!

Re: UEFA Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg > 1st August

Swansea vs Malmo FF - Malmo +2 @1.4 + Under 3,5goals @1.45 Swansea qualified as defending League Cup champions. Boa sorte!
I expected a dominant performace by Swansea because swedish teams are usually not so good on european competitions. Third round qualifications is for most of them the top they achieve. Even if they somehow manage to go through to group stage they stay behing on last position. Although, from all swedish teams i expected the most from Malmo, at least a goal here but in the end it was a poor performance up front...
