Week 3 then. Here's the line up :

Smith hasn't taken well to these 2 weeks with 2 losses in a row and it means he is bottom of the league. His first week average was a woeful 85 but last week he hit a 95 average and still lost. It doesn't get any easier for him as he is now against Price. Price also lost week 1 and went out to Cullen in the Semi finals in week 2. The difference is with Price now is that he is hitting 180s again and for a while he wasn't hitting them nowhere near as frequently. I think he wins this one.
Joe Cullen is absolutely smashing it right now. He won his first big TV event and since then he has gone and won back-to-back Players Championships. He lost to Clayton week 1 but hit a good average (95) and then last week he made the final and lost 6-4 with a 5pt better average. In terms of confidence, he should be firing on all cylinders. MVG has this strange way of having the other player play brilliant against him. He went out in R1 to Anderson in Week 1 with Anderson having 5pt less average then him and then last week he went out to Clayton despite hitting a 105 average. His doubling is definitely suffering but his scoring seems just as good. It's a hard one to call this.
It's an all-Scottish meeting in the third match as Anderson takes on Peter Wright. These two played eachother in Week 1 and it finished on a deciding leg as Wright won 6-5.  Anderson had a good week 1 but last week he went out with a 90 average and I think Wright probably comes through this. In the final match Clayton takes on Wade. I still am of the believe that Wade will only beat these guys if they play badly and that has showed itself in the first two weeks. He beat Price when Price hit an 89 average and he lost last week with an 88 average. He can't win matches below 90 really. It's just not likely in this company. I think Clayton wins and hits the most 180s.
The 13/2 boost of Price, MVG, Wright and Clayton looks worth a punt. I like Price and Clayton and I think MVG based on his performance last week is worth backing with this kind of price. Cullen's form is excellent but MVG actually leads the highest averages across these 2 weeks so far (101.40) Anderson could be the thorn in the side as he is playing some real good stuff but at 13/2 it's worth a couple points.
Finally, I think MVG at 5/1 is overpriced to win the night. If he gets through Cullen then I think he beats Price. I just have a feeling that he wins one tonight.

Qualification for the Welsh Open begins tomorrow and spans 6 days to see who will compete in the event, which will take place at the end of the month. 6 matches tomorrow with 2 matches at lunchtime, afternoon and evening. Here's what we have tomorrow then :

looking for value, there is 2 that I like accross the day and the first is Hancorn to beat Lilley. Only played eachother once and it was at an even shorter format as Hancorn won 2-0 at the WST Pro Series, last year. Hancorn made the L32 at the British Open and Scottish Open this season and whilst he has also had some poor results this season, he looked good in his deciding leg loss over Ali Carter last week. He made one century and 4 50+ breaks in that match and if he brings that form to Wales then I think he beats Lilley. Lilley has had a hard first season after coming through Q-School. He has won a few matches (Mann, Young & Steadman) but he doesn't score well enough. 6 of his 12 matches he hasn't scored one 50+ break and he's only hit one century and only 6 50+ breaks in the entire 12 matches.
The other single bet I like is Jackson Page to beat Mark Joyce. Joyce won their only h2h back in 2019 but his season to date this year has been far from impressive. He actually beat Lisowsi early in the season, at the English Open but then went out 4-0 to Jamie Clarke. He won a couple of matches at the UK Championship against Higginson and Astley but if we look at his last 4 tournaments, he has gone out in R1 in all of them and has lost to the likes of Wakelin, Surety, Jiankang and Lichtenberg. I think Page has every chance here. He has also beaten Lisowski this season early on and whitewashed him. He actually made the L16 of that Northern Ireland Open. In the middle of the season it's only been "so-so" with a couple of wins at the Scottish Open but he has played good players and he comes into this match fresh from qualifiying for the Turkish with a win over Stuart Bingham.

Williams takes on Gary Wilson tonight whilst Kyren Wilson takes on Neil Robertson. As I said in the preview, Neil Robertson caught covid after the Masters win and it ended up giving him quite bad Tinnitus apparently. It's not something you'd enjoy whilst trying to practice and would drive you nuts to be honest. I know he was "isolating" in his "man-cave" as of last week but who knows if he has a table in there? you would expect so with his millions. However, I can't be touching that match with Kyren. If anything, I think there is some value with Kyren Wilson.
I do like Williams to beat Gary Wilson on the -1.5 handicap though.  I can see a Mark Williams Vs Mark Allen showdown in the Quarter Finals. Hopefully with Allen coming through it. I do think he beats Wilson though at the very least. He has beaten Gary in all four of their head-2-heads and has covered the -1.5 handicap on them all.

Mackenzie McDonald to beat Ilya Ivashka at 1.81 with Unibet
Ivashka had a very suspect finish to the previous season and he's yet to play in this one, so I like the odds for McDonald. The American seems to be getting into at least some sort of form and he presented a respectable account of himself in Australia. I was looking for something like 1.60, so more than happy to get 1.81 here.

I like the look of going with Surety on the handicap. He has won both of the h2hs and although one was a long time ago, the other was in 2020. Main reason for the bet though is Mark Kings form. He had a great start to the season with a last 32 at the Northern Ireland open and then a Semi Final of the English Open but since going out of the UK Championship he has lost 4 out of 5 ignoring the Shoot Out. I think Surety can keep it close, atleast.
In the 2.30pm matches Im going to take Hugill, again with the handicap. I think Hugill has a chance against Highfield. He has been playing well for a while now and scoring well. He has beaten Kyren Wilson this season already and has lost a few deciding legs and so his record looks alot worse than he has played. Highfield has had a few poor results this season and has lost to Greene and 4-0 to Jianbo. His form is patchy and I think the +1.5 start may be enough for Hugill.
Finally, in the last section I'll take Lines to beat Grace. We haven't seen Grace since November and that's a while without Snooker. Peter Lines has had a really good UK Championship and only went out to the eventual winner. He has a good record against Grace despite how long ago it was and he's just won the UK Seniors last month.

There are a few matches tonight that could be quite stingy and so the stakes will be low but I think Ratajski should kick us off with a win over Gabe Clemens. He has won all 5 matches against Clemens and has covered this handicap in all of them. I like Cross to beat Dolan. I thought Cross went out of the Worlds with a wimper to be honest after having such promise but I think he beats Dolan here and hits the most 180s. Dolan went out in a whitewash to Rydz, who was scoring and checking out like a madman and if Cross scores well then he should have too much.
The Cullen/Gurney match could well be a cracker. Gurney has every chance but in general, and without the pressure of this being a ranking event, both should score well and if Cullen has no nerves he is a match for anybody and scores 180s for fun. Finally, we haven't seen the best of Devon Petersen for years now and Humphries had another good Worlds. You would think he comes through here and scores a few 180s. Luke has won the last 2 between the two.

Both winners yesterday. 2 more matches today. O'Sullivan takes Lisowski in the afternoon match and Ronnie has a brilliant record against Lisowski. Infact, in the 3 matches they've played it's been 5-2, 6-1 and 6-1. Ronnie tends to really raise his game against Jack and in this Masters I expect another good enough performance to see him beat him again. rather annoyingly missed the start of the Masters and today's action is Higgins taking on Xintong in the afternoon match. I'll take Higgins to win with the -1.5 handicap today. Xintong has a good recent record against Higgins but they've been last frame deciders and Higgins led Xintong 3-1 and 5-3 before Xintong won 3 in a row, and then the tournament, at York. Higgins was poor that day with just 2 50+ breaks but he likes the Masters alot and I can see him coming through this 6-3/6-4.

He went out of the UK Championship to Jiahui 6-5 and was 5-1 down there. He only just beat Ng On Yee in a deciding leg after going down 3-1 in a first to 4 and then went out tamely to Li Hang 4-2. You just can't be with him here.
