  1. Re: Another stupid idea from racing for change

It does occur to me that your only input ever seems to be complaining about one thing or another. I have yet to see you post a selection on any of the comps here or provide interesting or stimulating discussion threads, so I wonder who will be the poorer for your decision to leave :\
Why does he have to submit selections to the comps? I hardly do as I mainly only bet on hunter chases but I still have an interest in racing even if I dont watch as much as I used to. Surely this forum should be more about finding winners anyway and debating all things racing? If you dont like what Tabby posts then dont read it and look at a thread that does interest you. I think the price to get in does need sorting out and I can see where Jay is coming from but maybe it should be on a sliding scale depending on the quality on the track. Also Towcester have made a huge success by offering free entry so Im surprised more dont try it on a regular basis. I bring my own food and either have it on the train in my way there or at the track. However to say that everyone who turns up to the races isnt going to want to eat the food there is a bit silly and it is over priced and needs improving on. As for getting a bet on Im not sure what Tabby means there as its pretty easy really. If I ever go to the Festival Ive put all my bets on beforehand anyway or lke Jay says just use my phone.
  2. Re: Another stupid idea from racing for change

That's becasue they televise about five to seven races on any given day and they have a shit load of dead air time to fill with shit other than articles on what people are wearing and interviewing Z list celebs and footballers who have turned up to the races. If ATR or RUK have a day where they are showing four meetings at the same time then it's unworkable and unenforceable
Not really because Ive been told that the commentators have to try and remember to turn of their mics for the TV feed and only go through the order at the tracks. Anyway how long does it take to go through the order of finish for most races? Not very long at all is the answer and unless there is a race clash it could easily be fitted in. Also how often do ATR or RUK have four meetings in one day? Again hardly ever.
  3. Re: FA Trophy Sat 8th October. Got to say Im suprised that the draw isnt more local than it is. As for Chalfont being so short bwin will have just seen how well you are doing and stuck you in at that price and wont have looked at home/away form, they will just see you with home advantage.

  4. Re: England: Blue Square Premier Oct 4-6 The reason Setanta went the way they did was because they tried to complete with Sky and paid to much for all the rights and it wasnt a sustainable model. Premier Sports focus on sports that dont get covered elsewhere and thus have a niche market and I dont see it going the same way as Setanta. I think its currently £7.99 a month and I would never pay of Sky Sports as it has nothing I watch on it. Consider that Racing UK charge £20 a month I think the charge is fair enough for Premier Sports.

  5. Re: England: Blue Square Premier Oct 4-6

Very true. As a Stockport fan i'm amazed at how consistent and solid we've been this season. Another 1-1 draw is possible but that run has to end at some point. I think i'll be avoiding this one and certainly won't be subscribing to the rip-off merchants Premier Sports so I can watch it. I thought about going at under 2.5 goals but 3/4 on bet365 isn't tempting enough. If anyone needs team news I can probably get hold of it.:gimme
Why are they rip of merchants? Im sure if you look hard enough you will find the game on the net anyway. Im out tomorrow so cant watch the game but will either tape it or hope to catch it on one of the repeat showings. If I had of been watching I would have a small bet on the draw.
  6. Re: England: Blue Square Premier Oct 4-6 Basically said you had no chance last night and that you always have spells during a season where your terrible and that he thought you were in one of those at the moment. I hadnt checked the prices but he said he wanted Blue Square to be big on Wrexham. I was surprised that people could have a strong view either way on the game

  7. Re: Paul Hanagan worst Champion Jockey for years ?

You can confidently put any former champion jockey on a Gr1 horse and be confident of a good ride. However can you confidently put the current champion in a championship race ? The same goes with the jumps. The current champion can ride any horse whether a donkey or champion horse. This is my argument , not whether he's a good or bad jockey , but whether he deserves to be on the same shelf as other champions. Piggott ,Eddery , Dettori , Carson , Roberts ,Fallon , Hanagan ????
Yes he does because he rode more winners than anyone else last season as he might well do this season as well. As someone else said a G1 race is just a horse race but he just hasnt had the chance to ride in these races. I wouldnt not back something because he was on top.
  8. Re: Paul Hanagan worst Champion Jockey for years ?

If Richard Hills is so bad then why does he continue to ride for Sheikh Hamdan ? What about the trainers who use R Hills like M stoute , J Dunlop , M Tregonning , W Haggas etc . Are they bad judges for putting him up ? Of course not. If they didn't believe in his skills then they would do somthing about it. When R Hughes took over P Eddery as retained jockey to K Abdulla a few trainers refused to put R Hughes up. They were H Cecil and M Stoute who both refused the retained jockey to ride for them. If M Stoute didn't approve of R Hills surely he would do the same and get some other rider.
In my view its probably because of who he is, hes been around for years and obviously the Hills family have been huge in racing, and thats why they dont mind using him, Ive had this discussion with you before and you are obviously the only person who thinks he is any good. Hanagan doesnt ride in Group 1 races because his main trainer doesnt have any Group 1 horses. He is therefore going to be where is trainer wants him to be and so what if that happens to not be the main meeting. Unless they change the jockey title to prize money (which I hope they dont) he has every right to win it as the jockeys who win Group 1 races.
  9. Re: England > Weekend > FA Cup 2nd Qual Oct 1-2 Blyth Spartans v Bedlington Terriers Into the FA Cup and this is one game where I think an upset could happen. This is a big local derby and there are seven former Spartans players in the Terriers squad. There are three leagues between the two sides but Bedlington play in what is probably the best step 5 league in the country and should be highly motivated for this clash. The home side are really struggling the Blue Square North and have only two wins to their name and scoring goals have been a massive problem for them. I think this was probably the one game Blyth didn’t really want as it looks a very tricky tie and I am happy to back Bedlington at 13/2 with Blue Square. Bromley v Welling Having backed Welling in the league game of this fixture last week I decided to go and watch it and the away side were a big disappointment and on what I saw they are currently higher in the league than they should be. They created very little and I didn’t see too much in their performance which should make them odds on to win the same game a week later. Bromley played much better than when I saw them against Woking a few days before and actually passed the ball around which meant they created some decent chances and they fully deserved at the very least the point they got. Based on last weeks match there is little between these two sides thus at 9/4 (Blue Square) I have to take a chance on Bromley getting through to the next round as its bigger than they should be

  10. Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Oct 1 I will stick my FA Cup tips in here one of which is the same as Ships. He mentions that Farnborough have been trimmed which is an under statement as you can only get 7/4 now. Id have backed them at 11/4 but 7/4 is much closer to the price they should be so its a leave alone for me. 11. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Prem October 1 Darlington v Newport County So Anthony Hudson was given the sack this week from Newport and on balance I think it was the correct decision. They have really under performed so far this season and it has been suggested that although he is a superb coach he isn’t a manager and from what I saw of him I think that is a very fair comment. Newport have been knocking on the door of getting that second win of the season and I am happy to continue backing them especially as they travel to a Darlington side who have only picked up two points in the last six games, one less than Saturday’s rivals. The home side lost 3-0 to Southport on Tuesday night and it’s hard to see why they are odds on to win this game given their woeful form. Newport are unbeaten in three and with Hudson gone it could be a fresh start for the Welsh and at 11/4 (Bet 365) I am more than happy to get involved again. Forest Green Rovers v Mansfield It was crucial for Mansfield to bounce back from losing 3-0 to Kidderminster last Saturday and they duly did with a 3-1 win at Wrexham on Tuesday. They still rate as the best team I have seen in this league so far this season and Paul Cox has got a really exciting squad who I think will continue to improve as the season goes on. I’ve written a fair bit about Forest Green this season and they still don’t impress me despite the fact they haven’t lost in three games. This is the stiffest test they have had for a while and Mansfield look cracking value to me at 8/5 with Blue Square. Grimsby v Alfreton Whilst I am writing this I’m watching Grimsby’s game against Kidderminster from Tuesday night and I thought Grimsby played well in what was a decent game and they deserved to pick up a point. They lost to Wrexham on Saturday but they were undone by two cracking goals and I don’t think they performed badly by any means. They have improved from a very poor start to the season and crucially for me they are beating the weaker sides in the division and of course Alfreton are the weakest of them all as they are bottom at the moment. Alfreton have had a very tough time since promotion to the BSP and although they have improved a little of late, I am pretty certain Grimsby should have enough to beat them and I think there is value in the 10/11 with Coral. Kettering v Kidderminster I am also happy to back Grimsby’s opponents from Tuesday night as they go to a depleted Kettering side. The home side ended up with nine-players on the pitch after Jean-Paul Marna and Moses Ashikodi had a fight with each other after an argument on who should take a penalty. Both players miss Saturday’s game which is a big loss and Mark Stimson has decided to put 11 players, including those two, on the transfer list which suggests he isn’t happy with the squad he has inherited. Although they have won twice under Stimson, performances have not improved at all and I think it will take some time before he is able to improve the team. As I mentioned above Kidderminster were part of a cracking game against Grimsby on Tuesday night and they have got a decent record on the road this season with only losses at Fleetwood and Wrexham. It would be disappointing if they didn’t win here and I think they should be odds on so Stan James’ 23/20 appeals. Luton v Barrow Finally in the BSP this weekend I am going to continue to oppose Luton. Barrow have probably suffered even more from injuries than their hosts but they have coped better on the whole with some impressive victories this term. As I have said before you never really know what you are going to get from a Barrow side but they are very backable when they are a huge price in games like this. Barrow have a history of upsetting the bigger sides in the division and have already beaten Wrexham and Fleetwood this season, so given Luton’s continuing problems I am happy to back Barrow at 5/1 in the draw no bet market with Bet 365

  12. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Prem October 1

Newport have sacked Anthony Hudson which seems a pretty shortsighted move.
I was thinking about this last night and what happened at Oxford sprung to mind as Hudson reminded me a bit of Darren Patterson and I was wondering if bringing someone else in might be the right move and less than 24 hours later he has gone. I think it was a tough one but clearly things werent right somewhere and after watching Newport at Ebbsfleet I did wonder actually if he was the right man for the job. It was interesting they gave Holdsworth more time but then I guess the pressure wasnt on so much as promotion was the aim this season and they are a long way from that at the moment. Im usually in favour of managers being given time but I think on balance this might have been the right decision.
  13. Re: England > Midweek > BlueSQ Bet Prem Sept 27

Apologies. Jamie Vardy (Fleetwood's top scorer) is suspended, although Fleetwood are near the top they have been liable to concede goals (scored 18, conceded 14) whereas the Stockport defence is tighter and have only conceded 9 (keeping two clean sheets at home this season). Stockport have Ryan Fraughan back who has been a key player in the early part of the season, he should return tonight on the wing. We have been creating chances but not finishing off performanes, the last home game (2-0 v Grimsby) was a good team performance and I see us continuing the home form this evening.
That is spot on and welcome to the forum.
