  1. Re: England > Midweek > BlueSQ Bet North & South Aug 22-23

Can someone tell me why Halifax are such big favourites against Colwyn Bay? Is there team news that backs this up? Colwyn have had a decent start to the season and I dont see them as 9/2 away from home. Maybe there are more regular followers of the lower leagues who can shed more light on this game. I am new to the lower leagues but this game stood out due to the odds. Look forward to hearing more about these teams. Thanks
Halifax are favourites for the league and Bay one of the outsiders so that is why. Halifax havent had a great start to the season but have scope for improvement. I watched Bay in their first game of the season and they beat a poor Bishops Stortford side fairly comfortably but they didnt look any great shakes themselves. Im also not sure of the worth of beating Eastwood but only losing 1-0 to Hyde is looking good given what they are doing to others. This could be the right time to be playing Halifax though and perhaps Bay could get something out of the game. Like Ships its not a bet for me but it could be worth chancing at 9/2.
  2. Re: England > Midweek > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 23

It is a fairly murky fixture to bet on' date=' I just get the feeling Bath will come away with a point at least. Can't really see them losing 3 in a row, it was a nasty defeat at home to Barrow where they couldn't convert their quality into goals and then got sucker punched. I suppose you're right about the value and really I should stay away from this one.[/quote'] Well you could back the draw and cover your bet by backing Bath to win if you are favouring the draw over the Bath win.

does anybody have link to site with conference team news? seems like bbc is not covering the league as last year and this site dont contain team news http://www.bluesqfootball.com/story/0' date=20970,13040_7118121,00.html most team homepages are pretty garbage and aint updated with team news, so if anybody have some new site with team news i would be greatfull if you could post link. cheers
It seems the BBC have got team news for the odd game but have gone down the route of having manager interviews, which I suppose if youve got the time to listen to them will probably tell you team news. As you say some team websites are better than others. It could be worth looking at the teams local papers websites as they would usually carry stories like that.
  4. Re: England > Midweek > BlueSQ Bet North & South Aug 22-23 Eastwood v Gloucester City Gloucester have had a fantastic start to the season and remain unbeaten, having not conceded in their first three games. The side are playing some good football and as I have said before they are looking like they could potentially be one of the strongest in the league. I opposed Eastwood on the first day of the season and they were lucky to gain a point as Droylsden had gone down to ten-men. They then beat Solihull but in my view that form isn’t worth an awful lot as they have struggled and on Saturday lost to a Colwyn Bay who certainly aren’t anything special from what I saw of them against Bishops Stortford. For me the bookies have priced this game up on last season and not what has been happening this term and Victor Chandler’s 2/1 looks a cracking price. Gainsborough Trinity v Corby Just as I was about to start writing this preview it was announced that Brian Little had finally left Trinity. It seems as if he has been sacked and if that is the case it’s amazing that it hasn’t happened sooner. Last Monday I tipped them because I thought things had changed, but as I have mentioned above, beating Solihull clearly didn’t take much and they were then pretty poor against Hinckley and Stalybridge, conceding seven goals in those two games. My feeling is that although Little has gone not much will change until a new man is brought in. Corby may have lost 4-0 to surprise package Hyde on Saturday but going down to ten-men may have meant the scoreline was bigger than it should have been. I’m prepared to let them off Saturday’s blip as their other two wins have been impressive. Corby should be favourites here and I’m taking Victor Chandler’s 13/8 about an away victory. Histon v Worcester When Worcester lost 2-1 at Hyde on the first day of the season it looked a disappointing result, but given how well Hyde have performed since, in hindsight it was a decent effort. They then beat Vauxhall Motors 2-0 and performed well against pre-season favourites Halifax when gaining a 1-1 draw on Saturday. Those performances suggest that they have more than enough to beat a very young Histon side. Boss David Livermore said that the average age of his squad is just above 19 and that Altrincham’s winning margin could easily have been five or six instead of the three that it was. The fact that experienced captain Omer Riza is out injured will hinder them for all the games he misses. Worcester have plenty of experience in their side and should have too much for a youthful Histon. Blue Square’s 2/1 looks a pretty juicy price in my opinion. Nuneaton v Boston Two play-off teams from last season face each other and neither had a particularly great start to the season. Boston have at least won a game but have failed to convince in any of their three matches and have a fairly big injury crisis. They really struggled against Vauxhall on Saturday and this is a tough game. Nuneaton may only have one point on the board but they have shown more promise than Boston and probably had their best half of the season against Droylsden on Saturday. If they can recreate their first half performance over 90 minutes against Boston I think they will get that first win and I’m happy to take Bwin’s 13/10. Hampton & Richmond v Dorchester Finally in the Blue Square South I was tempted to tip Eastbourne, Woking and Sutton but in the end I have decided to plump for the bigger priced Hampton to gain their first win of the season. Hampton have had a tricky start to the season. The ref seemed to have a nightmare when they lost to Bromley on the opening day. I then watched their defeat at Woking last Tuesday and although Woking outclassed them in the end they battled hard, scored a well worked goal and generally put up a decent effort. It seems like they offered a similar performance against early table toppers Dartford on Saturday. They certainly seem like a team who will cause the top clubs problems and one who can pick up victories against the lesser teams in the league, of which Dorchester are certainly one. They have had a very strange start to the season, having lost 4-0 to Dover and 3-0 to Eastbourne, whilst in between that beating Maidenhead 4-0. After two tough away games I feel Hampton can get a deserved first win and the 11/8 on offer with Victor Chandler and bet365 is big enough for me.

  5. Re: England > Midweek > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 23 AFC Telford v Lincoln The home side had a slightly surprising victory over York on Saturday. It seems to me that it was mainly down to the fact that York didn’t take one of their numerous chances, with Jason Walker being one of the main culprits. To be fair AFC took their chance when it came along, which is something they didn’t do in their opener against Cambridge United. Lincoln on the other hand have yet to win a game, but I saw a fair bit of promise in their defeat to Wrexham on Friday night and they looked like a team who were getting their act together and would be winning soon. On paper Lincoln have the better side and if they can continue to build on Friday night’s performance they have a decent chance of recording that first win on Tuesday. For me Victor Chandler are taking a risk offering 85/40 on an away win and it’s worth an interest. Grimsby v Cambridge United I opposed Cambridge on Saturday and it just about paid off, however they put a fair bit of pressure on Kidderminster to try and get an equaliser, and as manager Jez George said, it was their best performance of the season despite the fact they lost. Grimsby are in a bit of a mess at the moment and although they managed to keep a clean sheet on Saturday, they have yet to score this season and are clearly missing Alan Connell. If United can frustrate Grimsby in the early stages I would imagine the crowd will begin to get on the home players’ backs and that won’t help. Again Victor Chandler are going 85/40 about an away win and that is big enough for me given how the two sides are performing right now.

  6. Re: England > Midweek > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 23 Well Baths home form was their strength last year and they werent anywhere near as good away from home. They also seem to have really struggled so far this season. Hayes nearly managed to pull of a draw against Fleetwood at the weekend. Hayes also won their only game at Woking so far which Ships watched. I cant say the game appeals as a betting medium to me especially at odds like 4/6.

  7. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 19-20

And this turns out to be, if anything, rather an understatement. Will take more care next time! Great calls on both this one and Kiddy. :notworthy
Cheers. I was listening to the first half and it did sound pretty easy for FGR. I get the feeling Alfreton are struggling to get used to the league a little. From the sounds of it Cambridge put Kiddie under plenty of pressure but thankfully they held on.
  8. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 19-20

Alfreton Town worth a look at 6/5 at Blue Square to beat FGR? Alfreton are generally strong at home' date= helped by their steep slope, with their Blue Sq North record over the last two seasons totalling at P 41, W 32, D 6, L 3, F 110, A 33. FGR, on the other hand, don't travel well, with their away record in the Conference over that period being P 46, W 7, D 10, L 29, F 50, A 95.
Id be very careful about looking at previous form especially as its based on different leagues. Alfreton were one of the best teams in the BSN whereas FGR nearly went down both seasons. FGR should be much better this time around.
  9. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 19-20

Unfortunately I haven't heard those views' date=' what is the setup like at Grimsby now? Are the management team poor in your eyes? I'm considering Newport tomorrow but as Ships mentioned it can be a bit sketchy banking on a team to loose more than 2 in a row.[/quote'] I dont rate them at all although I know Ships does. Im very interested to what sort of reaction they can get out of the players this afternoon. I thought it was a very bad choice to get them in by Grimsby. Quick word on last nights game. I was at work so might not have seen it as closely as others but I thought it was a decent game which either side could have won. Im sure Lincoln will be off the mark soon enough and Wrexham looked good as well.
  10. Re: England > Weekend > Evo-Stik Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Aug 20 Ships has mentioned the Met Police and there was a little bit of info in todays Independant. It said that the riots have caused a very disrupted preseason and it meant that a couple of friendlies were meanlingless as the manager didnt have the firsts, seconds or thirds available. It said they are dangerously under-prepared for todays game against Harrow. Harrow are available at 13/8 in a few places.

  11. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet North & South August 20 Blyth Spartans v Bishops Stortford I am still really happy to take Stortford on and they look in a real mess right now having suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat at Corby on Wednesday which came after their loss to Colwyn Bay which I witnessed. Blyth’s games so far have seen plenty of goals with a 2-2 draw against Histon followed by a 3-2 defeat by pre-season title favourites Halifax. They may not have won yet but both performances were solid and this looks a perfect time to be playing Stortford. The other thing to factor in is the massive trip for the away side which comes on the back of being at Corby on Tuesday. I can see this being quite an easy win for Blyth and am happy to back them on the handicap at 10/11 with Blue Square and HT/FT at 6/5 with bet365. Bromley v Maidenhead Maidenhead appear to be as bad (maybe even worse) than Bishops Stortford. They have lost their first two games of the Blue Square South season 4-0 against Tonbridge Angels and Dorchester, neither of which you would expect to be near the top come the end of the season. It looked like they might be capable of improving on their poor effort last season but these first two games suggest otherwise. Bromley meanwhile have won both their games so far, including beating Boreham Wood 4-0 on Tuesday night. They look in decent shape and will be disappointed if they can’t beat Maidenhead at home. I’m happy to take them on the handicap with Blue Square at 11/10.

  12. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 19-20 Alfreton v Forest Green Rovers FGR looked a decent team in the first half against Stockport and did well to hold on for a point at Luton on Tuesday, where Luton threw plenty at them to try and get a winner. Alfreton are struggling to get to grips with the Blue Square Premier so far, losing to Hayes on the opening day and drawing 0-0 with Southport on Tuesday. Those two sides are likely to turn out to be two of the weakest in the league and FGR should pose a much stiffer test. I can’t work out why Alfreton should be so short (odds on with Boylesports) to win this and FGR seem good value with Coral at 12/5 to gain their first three points of the season. Cambridge United v Kidderminster The home side are pretty fortunate to still be unbeaten after two games and given what’s happened in both matches they could easily have lost both. Wrexham were the better side last Saturday and United managed to sneak a last minute equaliser. They then hosted AFC Telford on Tuesday where AFC could easily have been 3-0 up at half time, but as can happen in football they didn’t take their chances and Cambridge took pretty much the one they had the whole match. I thought Cambridge could be dark horses this season and they still might be but it seems like the young side are still finding their feet and look vulnerable. I rightly opposed Kidderminster on the opening day of the season but they still performed well enough against Gateshead and followed that up with a very good effort to beat Lincoln on Tuesday 1-0, and it could have been more by the sound of it. Kidderminster seem to be playing the better of the two sides so far and the 2/1 that is generally available looks big to me.

  13. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 19-20

I base it on the fact my friend goes to every Grimsby match and he says Grimsby were abject against Fleetwood and Braintree. Even if his assessment is incorrect they deserve to be bottom because statically they have the worst record so far. I made no prediction on where they will be come the end of the season so don't really see the relevance. I maintain the odds are wrong however I may be wrong its just my opinion.
First of all given how big I am on Newport to win the league I obviously want them to win tomorrow. My point is though that to say any team deserves to be bottom after two games is rather harsh. To me you deserve to be bottom if you are the worse team in the league and its impossible to say that after two games. I fully accept they were poor on Tuesday night but I my feeling is that they will start winning at somepoint and given how bad they were on Tuesday they wont be that bad again I would have thought. My view is the price isnt much value.
  14. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Aug 19-20

NEWPORT TO BEAT GRIMSBY EVENS Bet365 Coral I cant understand why Newport aren't odds on. Newport are clearly one of the best sides in the league and will surely start at shorter odds in forthcoming home games. Grimsby on the other hand deservedly prop up the league and another hiding could be on the cards.
Why do Grimsby deservedy prop up the league? They arent going to be there come the end of the season thats for certain. As I said above its always a fear when good teams get thrashed as to how they react in the next game.
  15. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet North & South August 20

Given the general views on here about Bishop's Stortford, Colwyn Bay's winning start to the season at Stortford last Saturday may not have amounted to much. Sure enough Bay slumped to a disappointing home defeat in midweek against Hyde. They could be in for more of the same against Eastwood Town tomorrow. Eastwood were trailing 2-0 at home to Droylsden in their opening fixture but came back to gain a morale-boosting last minute equaliser. They went to Solihull Moors in midweek and won 2-0. Unsurprisingly Eastwood's man of the match in each game has been centre forward Lee Morris. He was excellent for Kidderminster last season without scoring the goals his all round play merited. Morris scored both early goals in midweek, and Eastwood were able to shut up shop and squeeze the home side out of the game. There's a good chance that Eastwood will achieve more of the same at Colwyn Bay, and I make them a very solid 6/4 shot (generally available).
Having watching Colwyn Bay it was a bet I looked at but I didnt think the 6/4 was massive value. Dont forget that Droylsden were down to 10-men in that first game. Im still trying to weigh up how Eastwood will do this season, if they had of been around 2/1 Id have backed them to win this though.
