  1. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread Question to you Irish members. Does Irish or UK racing come first in Irish betting shops and amongst punters ? Is there more Irish racing news than UK racing news in your racing papers ?You guys on here seem to be very clued up about UK racing but we are not as clued up about about your racing other than news concerning the top races/jockeys/trainers.

  2. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread I know Ireland has a few big festivals like Punchestown and Galway , but why can't they have a big meeting made up of predominantly prestige races like the Epsom Derby meeting , Royal Ascot , Glorious Goodwood and the Cheltenham Festival ? Today is their Irish Oaks and the meeting doesn't seem to be attractive in trems of quality races. Also why is it always held a few weeks after the Irish Derby. It is the same / used to be for the other races like their 2000/1000 Guineas , held on different weekends on mediocre cards. Their Irish Champion Hurdle , Irish Arkle , and Gold Cup are also held on different meetings. Wouldn't it be great if they could have meetings to rival Royal Ascot and the Cheltenham Festival ?

  3. Re: Going Descriptions of Late The adverse weather conditions has produced some fantastic placepot dividends and very good forecast / tricast dividends. Theres been a few wide margin victories too for those who like the distance betting , it just takes one short priced horse to whizz in by half the track for the over part of the distance market to come in.

  4. Re: Favourite position

It depends on the horse surely... If i have a Mark Johnston horse backed' date=' i want it to lead. If i have Gallego backed, i want it to be stone last for the first few furlongs.[/quote'] Have to agree. It totally depends on the horse whether its a hold up horse or a front runner , plus other factors like ground conditions and what track. One of the wierdest horses I can remember is a horse called Danegold when trained by Mick Channon about 12 years ago . Whatever position the second last horse is , Danegold would be a further 15 -20 lengths behind by design , the would be about a furlong between first and last and he would make up ground in the closing stages , I can't remember him winning much but can remember being frustrated many times when I backed it and the horse only just failing. With these types of horses why not hold them up 5 lengths off the leader instead of 40 lengths like Danegold used to .
  5. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread Next weekend is one of the jewels of the flat season the King George and QE2 Diamond Stakes. What if was held in the evening ? Its the height of summer so daylight would be no problem. It may attract more attendenances , the TV coverage could attract more viewers , the bookies could attract more turnover. We all know people who work 9-5 Mon -Fri/Sat. I'm sure some of these people have not had the chance to be introduced to the sport because of work commitments. If you work in retail you are buggered as far as racing is concerned.

  6. They say jockeys are the worst tipsters and yesterday it was confirmed to me yet again. On the Morning Line yesterday (Channel 4 ) Frankie Dettori appeared as a guest and on the Charity bet section where the presenters and guests put £100 for charity , everybody spread the £100 over 2 or 3 horses. Except for Frankie , he put the whole amount on the Newmarket 3.55 a 3 runner race. This would suggest Frankie fully expects it to win and has maximum confidence. Result ...............Bircham , L Dettori 1/4 fav beaten 7 lengths !!!!!!

  7. Re: P Hanagan Looking at the race again , I think Saturdays July Cup was probably one of the worst Gr1's in recent history plus the heavy going in July contributed to the main protagonists not performing well. Nevertheless it will go down in the record book that Paul Hanagan has won a Gr1.

  8. In the past month I've noticed Peter Sandrovich offering his services in the name of Firecrackerbet. He was a prominant racing tipster back in the 90's and had many horses with Gr1 winning trainer Richard Fahey often bearing the Sandrovich name. I don't really spend much time following racing as I once did but I'm very curious as to how he's currently doing. Are there any members on here who are currently subscribing to his services and how is it performing ?

  9. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

Spread the meetings out and the quality races too. Way too many good races today and it seems like every 5-10 mins another race is off. I'd love to see some top quality racing reserved for Sundays like they do in France and Ireland. The top courses get the best races and many can't get their midweek unless it's booked in advance and part of a festival like the Dante' date=' Ebor, Glorious Goodwood etc so the best races often end up being on Saturdays. They also need to look at fixtures, up here we get Ponty, Ripon, Donny, York in the space of a week at times. It's good that we have so much racing but financially impossible to get to all those meetings in such a short period of time. Mondays and Tuesdays are nearly always poor racing days, especially Tuesdays when it's often 2 meetings only, one or two being all weather. As you say best racing seems reserved for Thursday to Saturday.[/quote'] I much prefer it when some of the big races / H'caps are run during the week like yesterdays July Cup and Bunbury Cup. I also prefered the Derby when it was run on a Wednesday although I understand the reasoning for runing on a Saturday. Also I think they should look at running some big festivals later in afternoon or in the evening. It was an interesting idea switching the Irish Derby from a Sunday afternoon to a Saturday evening spot , not sure how it went down in Ireland or whether it was a success , but if big festivals were staged later in the day it would allow some 9-5 Mon - Friday workers the opportunity to participate in the sport.
  10. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread Yesterday we had 4 Grade 1 racecourses in a single day in Newmarket , Newbury , York and Chepstow ( abandoned ) and today we have the same 3 courses again. Why can't they evenly distribute the meetings at the decent courses ? On Mondays and Tuesdays we get Ponte , Brighton , Hamilton , Carlisle etc then some days we get all top courses. Why can't they put a Ascot on Monday afternoons instead always towards the end of the week ?

  11. Re: P Hanagan Fantastic to see Paul Hanagan win his first domestic Group 1 , I knew he'd win a top race sooner than later. Although I didn't back his 20/1 winner , I did land a bet at 6/4 that he'd win a Gr1 this year.

  12. I'm considering buying this netbook for purely gambling including Betfair. Acer Aspire One 722 11.6 inch Netbook - Black (AMD Dual-Core C-60 1GHz, RAM 2GB, HDD 320GB, LAN, WLAN, Webcam, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit) I don't know anything about computers. Can anybody tell me if they are suitable for playing online poker ? I spend a lot of time on Microgamming , mainly Lad-brokes Poker. Thanks.

  13. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread Had a sole bet on The Oil Magnate in the 4.00 Ayr which won easily. It was ridden by T Eaves and trained by M Dodds. The jockey won easily by 3 lengths , but could have a lot more lengths. Watching the race on TV he was always travelling the best but he never seemed to be aware of where he was in the race , he looked over his shoulder 7 times in the final fiurlong. I'm aware M Dodds and T Eaves makes their living with handicap horses and in a different race The Oil Magnate could have easily been beat with the tender ride it was given. Would like to see horses ridden out even if it means winning by several more lengths , as long as it wins. Maybe somebody should design some wing mirrors they could attach to the horses head similar to motorbike mirrors but made of safer materials so jockeys can easily see where they are in a race without comprimising their finishing position.

  14. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

True but they are still racing under different conditions. Lets take Big Bucks and Kauto Star then. No one would be asking for a race between those two as one is top class over hurdles and one over fences. Just because these two are both Flat horses and race at close distances to each other doesnt mean we can tell who is better.
Frankel Vs Black Caviar is not a match I want to see , but over the years theres been many top milers drop back to 6F and win. The most recent I can remember is Starspangledbanner who won a Gr1 over a mile then later on in his career dropped back in distance to win the Golden Jubilee and July Cup.
  15. Re: Flat season - Too difficult to profit? No amount of studying would have pointed you in the direction of the Barney Curley/Chris Grant 4 horse gamble 2 years ago , without inside information most of us are fighting a losing battle. The Racing Post supplements published for the Cheltenham Festival and Royal Ascot often gives us losing tips , if the paid proffessionals cannot get it right then our task is even harder. Having re read the one produced for this week if you took their advice you'd would be in the red this week.

  16. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

Black Caviar is the best sprinter in the world and Frankel is the best miler in the world simple as. As Ive seen someone say its a bit like comparing Kauto Star and Hurricane Fly' date=' they both do different things and they both do those things well.[/quote'] Kauto Star was top class over 2 miles having won the best races over that distance and was fav for the Champion Chase one year , and also top class over 3 miles +. Hurricane Fly won from under a mile to 2 and a half miles. Maybe different horses would have illustrated your point a little better.
  17. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

....& Bookies on course currently betting to around 137% on the first.....!!
If you think that was bad , the Black Caviar race was 144% For the bookies its like Christmas during the summer , so many clueless punters with money to burn.
  18. Re: What is the best type of bet in horse racing ? This was the bet they didn't want you find out about. Wokingham Tricast..................£7,408 Wokingham Trifecta................£46,255 Irresistable value !!!!!!! As the title of the thread asks , surely this is a contender for best type of bet in horse racing. I'm sure most of the professional tipsters on here will agree that getting / spotting value is essential for keeping ahead in this game and I'm sure many of you had couldn't resist having a go because as i predicted the day before it was the biggest pool of the flat season so far. Give yourself a pat on the back if you managed to get it up , unfortunately for me I only had the second and third. Can anybody find a better value bet this season ?

  19. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread Willie Carson in his post race analysis was critical of Luke Nolan however Willie forgot to mention the similarity of his ride on odds on shot Kamari in 1996 when he got done on the line , Willie got the maximum possible punishment. Kamari whizzed it next time out at odds of 1/28. Glad we won't be seeing much more of him in the future.

  20. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

Interesting you mention this as I've just read Richard Hughes's column in todays RP. He says prize money at Royal Ascot is poor and partly down to the no sponsorship rule of races. He makes comparisons to races like the Arc, Dubai World Cup, Breeders Cup etc and feels it's only a matter of time before they allow races to be sponsored and bring in loads more revenue. Maybe this will happen and then we'll have to get to know all the new race names all over again. How do you feel about Royal Ascot races being sponsored? Break with tradition or keep it as it is? Perfect way to do it for me - Royal Hunt Cup, sponsored by Ferrari. Chesham Stakes sponsored by Cartier etc etc.
To be honest , I have no strong view on the prize money , all the connections are minted so my heart doesn't bleed for them like it would for the owner of a seller at Southwell . I haven't yet read R Hughes's column but is he only concerned about his % of the prize money , maybe thats the reason why he hasn't seemingly put in any to get the best possible placings. This years Royal Ascot has had the biggest fields I can remember in over 2 decades of punting , so poorer prizemoney is not going to deter connections , but if sponsorship is the way forward then why not. The final day of the meeting used to be for us peasants but with the " Royal " part removed and sponsorship was permitted , now they've taken that away from us , so if some top jockeys are whinging about their % , I don't really care.
  21. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread One aspect of racing which annoys me is the renaming of races. Todays highlight is the Gr1 Diamond Jubilee , many of you out there will now it was previously known as the Golden Jubilee for the last 10 years . This particular renaming is very fitting and OK. Previous to that it was known to us as the Gr3 Cork and Orrey probably for many decades which was run on day 1 of Royal Ascot. My point is that sometimes when they change the name we sometimes lose track of the particular race and think its a brand new race altogether. In 2017 will it be known as the Blue Sapphire Jubilee ( 65 years ) What about the Tercentenary Stakes run on Thursday , how many people knew it was the Hapton Court Stakes , previous to that wasn't it the Milcar Stakes run on day 5 , which wasn't Royal Ascot but normal Ascot , being normal Ascot sponsorship is allowed which is why the car dealership sponsored the race. Also wasn't it a non group race so the connection isn't really there. Other races in the calender which have been lost to me are some of the classic trails , like the Predominate and Lupe stakes into the Cocked Hat and Height of Fashion Stakes , theres no connection in the titles of these races. Over the jumps it wasn't until the following year I realised the Nuptune Hurdle was the RSA Hurdle as I knew it for many years , I thought it had been dropped. If you have trends or betting angles for certain races you don't want to miss opportunites by not realising the races are run with different names. I might sound like old fashioned , but I prefer race names to remain constant , maybe with sponsored by XXX after it instead.
