  1. We all know Paul Hanagan has very little experience on top class horses but why is he not riding the fancied Abtaal in the 2000 Guineas on Saturday for his owner Hamdan al Maktoum , I am aware that the horse is trained in France and that he will be ridden by the multiple Gr1 winning jockey C Soumillon but why isn't PH riding this one . Instead he will be on a 66/1 outsider. I would very much like to see him at the decent meetings on decent horses , hopefully he will get a ride for the first time in the Epsom Derby this year . I have had small with Laddies that he will ride a Gr1 this year too which is also a reason for me to see him do well. I hope his retainer with the owner is not like the one of R Hughes/ K Abdulla where the decent horses were ridden by proven top class jockeys. On many occasions R Hughes rode the second string / pacemakers in the decent races. At one point Hughes didn't ride any of his owners horses if they were trained by M Stoute / H Cecil/ A fabre .

  2. Re: Lynch gets licence back !!

What worries me is that it isn't the ones we know about' date=' it's the ones that we still don't know about.[/quote'] Very true , I didn't want to make that list too in case some members on here got upset. Will just add 1 more ...........Culhane ( in my opinion )
  3. I heard the disappointing news that F Lynch and J Egan have been issued with Irish licenses. Lynch a few years ago admitted stopping a horse for reward , fled to the US but his past caught up with him and he was forced to stop riding. He was refused a British license last year and but was granted a Spanish one which he has been using to ride in Ireland. Lets hope this is not a stepping stone for him to get back into Britain. J Egan is a jockey who encounters trouble whichever country he goes ,including Hong Kong where was arrested for suspicion of race fixing along with K Fallon . I personally have suspected him of many dodgy rides over the years. I'd like to see the authorities take firm action against any jockey who is found guilty of any sort of wrongdoing within their profession , like issuing life bans or lengthy bans of 5 years or more. This would be a better deterrent than the current system. If it was in place then I'm sure more jockeys would be genuine unlike , Fallon , J Quinn , Williamson , Milzarek , Reilly , Browne , Mckeown , Fitzptrick , Ferris , Doe , Chin , Fairley , Winston , Fletcher , Williams etc etc...........................

  4. Re: He's back.......

If they're planning a coup Ann should be riding with a stone overweight..........:unsure
Ann Stokoll hobby is not about making money or landing gambles , I'm sure that winning a race with Pawan will be more satisfying than any monetary returns.
  5. After 2 years off at the age of 12 Pawan is making a comeback for regular trainer Ann Stokell. The horse has an enormous cult following amongst horse racing fans up and down the country and tomorrow will be partnered by K Milczarek ( who recently served a ban for crooked practices ). Pawan runs off a mark of 55 , who hasn't run off a mark this low since the horse was a kid. I don't know whether its a betting proposition , probably not , however I see this jockey change as an attempt to acquaint a new jockey for a planned win later in the season. He races in the 810 Brighton tomorrow evening and I'm sure there will a piece in the Racing Post tomorrow due to his massive fan base.

  6. Re: The Jockey Thread

Great to see the return of the Group 1 winning combo of Brittain and Doyle. Lets hope we see more of this world class jockey in the coming months
Clive Brittain had 3 today running in the colours of main patron Saeed Manana , all 3 were not ridden by Doyle . Doyle did however ride one for Brittain who the trainer owned himself. Doyle was riding most of Saeed Manana's horses up to a few days ago , has he been sacked by the ownwer or is it a one off ?
  7. Re: Bookie basher thread. Non Full Cover Multiples If you have a number of selections you wish to do in a series of doubles and trebles etc but you wish to reduce the cost a little further then here is a method. If you had 4 elections , that would equate to 6 doubles . You could have any 2 horses to be doubled with the other 2 horses , thus making only 4 doubles. It would look like this on a betting slip. Horse A Horse B .................... Horse C Horse D 4 X win doubles @ £10 = £40 It is calculated by multiplying together the number of horse in each group. You need to clearly separate each section to avoid confusion , a thick line is ideal. The number of horses in each section does not have to be equal . you can have as many/little horses in each section. The bet will come up as long as you have one winner per section. Eg 2 48 trebles @ £1 = £48 ( 3x4x4) Horse A Horse b Horse C ............................... Horse D Horse E horse F Horse G .............................. Horse H Horse I Horse J Horse K Doing full cover trebles for 11 horses is 165 bets however in this example it is reduced to 48 bets , the only snag is that you need a minimum of 1 winner per section.

  8. Re: Bookie basher thread. The above example can be done with 2 or more races. On days where I cannot find any individual horses to bet on I may do a SP Jackpot at single meetings using the method above albeit to tiny stakes to keep me interested. To calculate the number of lines is exactly like working out a placepot. Race 1 ...........4 horses Race 2............2 horses Race 3............4 horses Race 4............3 horses Race 5............5 horses Race 6............2 horses 4x2x4x3x5x2 = 960 lines . I'd probably do it to 5p stakes thus costing me £48. Al I need is to have the winner in each race , the bigger priced winner the better. Even at 960 lines the accumulator will most likely pay much more than that. I think some bookies accept 1p stakes so you could have an interest in all the races at a meeting for under £10 with the same number of selections as above.

  9. Re: Bookie basher thread. Multiple bets with more than 1 selection per race I sometimes do this bet prior to going to race meetings. If it looks like a tricky card I may group together some of the harder races in the form of a multiple at small unit stakes. Eg. Race 1 12 runner handicap , 4/1 fav Race 2 14 runner handicap , 5/1 fav Race 3 16 runner handicap 6/1 fav What I will do is pick out any number of horses that I think will have a chance and put them in a treble. The slip may look something like this. Race 1 ............ horse number 1 , 2 , 4 Race 2............. 3 ,6 ,8 ,9 Race 3 .............2 ,4 ,6 ,11 , 12 60 trebles @ 50p = £30 The total number of horses per race are multiplied together , in this example 3x4x5 = 60. Lets say you manage to pick the winner of each race at say 7/1 , you would get back £256 for your £30 investment. In situations like this I prefer to risk my £30 over 3 races covering more horses rather than have £10 on each of the 3 races. The final 2 races at Royal Ascot is a meeting where I will do this bet as they are often competive handicaps.

  10. Re: Confidence On a normal day if I had 4 horses I fancied equally and I only had £15 to bet with that day I would probably do 2 things : 4 Win singles @ £3.75 Or 6 Win doubles @ £2.50 both costing £15 For me the £1 4fold accumulator is an absolute waste of money ,if I really had to do the lucky 15 I would do them separately on a betting slip and omit the accumulator , money saved is money in your pocket.

  11. Re: Wanted !! tricast/trifecta staking plan. It is simple to calculate the number of lines in your perm. It is the total number of selections multiplied by itself minus 1 mutiplied by itself minus 2. Eg : 10 horses 10 x 9 x 8 = 720 9 horses 9 x 8 x 7 = 504 8 horse 8 x 7 x 6 = 336 7 horses 7 x 6 x 5 = 210 For a non full cover perm the formula is similar with a few adjustments.

  12. Re: Wanted !! tricast/trifecta staking plan.

great stuff erhaab and A Woods. the race didn't quite work out as i thought but hopefully i'll do better next time. When you say you had 7 to win 9 to come 2nd etc... does that mean you have your 7 to win included in the 2nd and 3rd aswell
I like to put them on in the shops using the quick slips. There is a section with 3 columns for 1st 2nd and 3rd which is what i prefer. In the 1st section I will tick the ones I really fancy , in the 2nd column I will repeat these horses and maybe add a couple more and in the 3rd column I will repeat these horses and add a few outsiders which may come 3rd. This way it reduces my total outlay. There is a full cover section where you pick your fancies and they will all be fully covered but it will cost the maximum. So 7 horses 210 , 8 horses 336 ,9 horse 504 , 10 horses 720 ..... Hope you can understand what I've said.
  13. Re: Wanted !! tricast/trifecta staking plan.

Well done. What I find strange is that they dont seem to quote the pool size at any stage. Or at least' date=' I couldnt see it anywhere. They seem to be deliberately keeping it as secret as possible from every angle. But if over 30% of the final pool consisted of the rollover then it really is great value.
I made enquiries in 2 Betfred shops today and both managers had never heard about Trifecta rollovers , one said she had been a manager for 20 years. The online customer service reply just fobbed me off saying check out the Totepool site, I genuinely think most employees are not in the loop in regards to this bet.
  14. Re: Underappreciated trainers I having been punting for over 20 years and I believe there are only poor jockeys anybody who chooses to go into the training profession must have some sort of clue even though their statistics tell a different story. At my last count there are hundreds and hundreds of trainers and I'm sure all of them are competent in their own way with the facilities / horses they have. Ones which I respect are F Murphy , B Curley , B Ellison , G Baker , P Butler , C Grant ,S Williams . These are trainer whose horses seemingly don't run to form , probably by design . When you least expect them to win they manage to pull your pants down by winning with a seemingly unfancied horse.

  15. Re: Wanted !! tricast/trifecta staking plan.

Well that was a nice start. 9 chosen for £50.40 and returned £253.52. See the tricast would have just returned £102.90' date=' so great value.[/quote'] Well done i too got it up to 10p for a £50.40 perm , whilst your was a full cover bet of 9 selections mine consisted of : 7 to win 9 to come 2nd 11 to come 3rd Still a 504 unit perm , but taking a bigger chance on the winner. Anyway 5 times your money returned with nearly half the field working for you , great value isn't it ? I don't know what the final pool was but a few minutes before the off it was around £40k , even bigger than the win pool !! Also the dividend paid a lot more than the tricast as is the norm. You can find out the full details in the results section of the Racing Post when it eventually comes through .
  16. Re: Wanted !! tricast/trifecta staking plan.

hope that pool gets abit bigger, i've had ago at this today managed to narrow it down to 8 horses so 336 lines my selections are Tidal Bay West End Rocker Rare Bob Tullamore Dew Le Beau Bai Swing Bill Roalco De Farges Major Malarkey probably won't even get 1 in the places knowing my luck recently but worth a shot if that pot is big
Unlucky to only get the 1-2. Hope you have better luck next time. I see you did a full cover perm with your 8 selections. You can make your bet a little cheaper by reducing the number of horses to win and having the 8 to come 2nd/3rd ,just a thought.
  17. Re: Wanted !! tricast/trifecta staking plan.

Thanks for the info. It was strange yesterday when I phoned the Tote. It was as though I was talking to the woman in a foreign language and she had to go off and get some advice from a colleague for about five minutes before she got back to me to tell me it was the 3.10. She didnt know what the rollover figure was at the time. Some customer support teams just know the absolute basics and any question slightly out of the norm puts them on tilt. Same with Betfair..Hey' date='ho....[/quote'] Was out of town doing the shopping this morning and I went into a Betfred shop . I asked the cashier which was the " rollover race " ( I was just interested in her reply because I already knew ) she replied theres no rollover today because we don't do the Jackpot on Saturdays. I then said I meant the trifecta rollover so she checked on her monitor which only gave a list of trifecta races , no info on any roll over. I asked the manager to find out from customer services and he refused because he and his staff have never heard of the Trifecta rollover , he insinuated I was wrong and got it confused with the Jackpot rollovers. This has happened many times over the years in various betting shops , they were genuinely clueless . There must be a reason for keeping this bet a secret , I think it is to line a few peoples pockets.
  18. Re: Bookie basher thread. £10 EW ED Treble Horse A .................1st 5/4 Horse B .................1st 7/2 Horse C .................3rd 8/1 Returns..................£170.33 ( £251.02 if shortest horse places and other 2 win ) Normal EW returns....£73.83 From the examples you can see that you can still get big returns even without getting winners in each leg. The hard part is the selection process.

  19. Re: Bookie basher thread. Lets say in both examples the short priced banker places but the longer priced horse wins . Heres how it would change the returns for the £10 EW doubles. Eg 1 : Horse A ......2nd 11/10 Horse B ......1st 7/1 Returns ......................£51 ( £46.61 when placings are reversed ) Normal EW returns.........£35.06 Eg 2 : Horse A ......3rd 9/4 Horse B ......1st 14/1 Returns ...................£117.18 ( £108.28 when placings are reversed ) Normal EW returns......£70.31 As you can see it greatly increases the return when the bigger priced horse wins but the shorter priced one only places. The returns on the normal EW double remains the same as the previous example because the win part of the bet is immediately lost when one horse fails to win.

  20. Re: What is the best type of bet in horse racing ? There's a cracking bet in tomorrows 3.10 Sandown . The bet is the Tote Trifecta. There is £14,557 of dead money rolled over . I'm quite sure that the vast majority of the betting public will not be aware of the added value in this bet and I'm quite sure they will not say anything in the Racing Post or C4. The only people who will know are you , me , a few pros and a few Tote employees . Good luck if you are having a shot.

  21. Re: Wanted !! tricast/trifecta staking plan. As I guessed the other day , the trifecta rollover race is going to be tomorrows 3.10 at Sandown . There is £14557 of dead money in the pot already. I have asked the Tote why they don't publish details of this rollover each week on many ocassions including today and each time they avoid answering , usually they just give a link to their Tote pool site.
